WASHINGTON (AP) - Libertarian Bruce Majors says he is happy despite losing the election last week for the District of Columbia's seat in Congress.

That's because the more than 13,000 votes he earned were enough to get his party on general election ballots for the next four years without having to gather signature for a petition. Bob Johnston, a national Libertarian Party employee who monitors ballot access issues, told the Washington Post (http://bitly.com/W0jnUW) that the district now joins 30 states in granting the party regular ballot access.

Major says the challenge of 11-term incumbent Democrat Eleanor Holmes Norton was chosen carefully. He ran during a presidential election year when more voters turn out and in a year where Republicans didn't run a candidate of their own.
