White Ribbon Walk 2012
Prime Minister Julia Gillard #39;s partner, Tim Mathieson, fondly known as Australia #39;s #39;first bloke #39; joined NSW Police Force and Randwick City Council on a walk to end violence against women on Friday 23 November 2012.. The walk started at 7.30am, at High Cross Park in Randwick, and walkers made their way along Coogee Bay Road, and finish at Coogee Beach. Randwick Mayor, Tony Bowen, said event organisers were delighted to have the support of local personalities as well as Australia #39;s #39;first bloke #39;. "Violence against women is never acceptable and we are honoured that Tim Mathieson joined Sydney #39;s White Ribbon Walk to urge all Australian men to stand up and say no to violence against women," said the Randwick Mayor. Eastern Beaches Local Area Commander, Detective Superintendent Gavin Dengate, said the walk supports an important cause. "One in three Australian women over the age of 15 have reported experiencing physical or sexual violence at some point in their lives -- women who are our mothers, sisters or daughters," Det Supt Dengate said. "White Ribbon Day raises awareness to an issue police deal with on a daily basis and it #39;s something we take very seriously. "If some men are violent, it gives other men a bad name, and local police join in Sydney #39;s White Walk to show we won #39;t tolerate domestic violence," Det Supt Dengate said.From:TheNSWPoliceViews:3 0ratingsTime:02:44More inNews Politics
