AGNES Water is attracting unprecedented national and international attention after the release of the new bestseller, 101 Best Australian Beaches, by Professor Andrew Short and Brad Farmer.

Out of the 11,761 Aussie beaches visited by the authors, Agnes came in the top 101 that made it into the book - and was No.1 in Prof Short's personal top 10.

Prof Short is known as the world's authority on beaches, after publishing numerous books, scientific journals andpapers on coastal geomorphology.

He has documented first-hand every beach on the Australian coastline, travelling on foot, by boat, plane, helicopter and 4WD.

Brad Farmer, a third-generation surfer and founder of Ocean Care Day and the Surfrider Foundation, had Crescent Heads on the NSW north coast as his personal No.1 - but admitted Agnes Water was a bit of a favourite too.

"I'm a Queenslander. I couldn't have too many Queensland beaches in there - it would seem a bit biased."

Mr Farmer said the book was selling well and he was initially surprised by the attention.
