Progress continues on Clear Fire ahead of forecasted rains – akfireinfo.com

Warm, drying weather has increased fire activity on the most southern portions of the Clear Fire (#346). The Division of Forestry and Fire Protection (DOF) Type 2 Initial Attack Crews White Mountain and Gannet Glacier are seeking out and extinguishing all hot spots along the fires edge and mopping up a wide perimeter to prevent any further fire growth. The warming weather is beneficial to the crews as it increases fire activity making it easier to identify and extinguish smoldering areas.

Firefighters are working with property owners in the areas of Kobe Ag and Anderson subdivisions as they work to complete their repairs to areas damaged by suppression efforts. This includes but is not limited to grading roads, breaking apart dozer berms, repairing fencing and restoring firelines. Property owners need to be aware of firefighters and heavy equipment still working in the area.

The rest of the eastern flank, the northern portion, and the areas of the western flank along the Teklanika River remain in patrol status. The perimeter in these areas remains intact. Any smokes that are visible are well within the interior of the fire and are not threatening containment lines.

Clear blue skies were reported over the fire Thursday morning, but this will change later in the evening as a storm front moves in bringing cooler and much wetter weather. The first initial push of rain will be Thursday evening and early morning Friday, mainly south and west of Fairbanks before seeing broad scale rain over much of the Interior.

The Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) remains in place over the fire area. All non-mission aircraft and drones must avoid the area outlined in the TFR for the safety of aircraft supporting the Clear Fire and firefighters on the ground.
