In the third and final debate sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates, presidential candidates debated in a town-hall format, with both candidates taking questions from an audience of undecided voters chosen by the Gallup organization. The debate opened with a moment of silence to mark the death of Missouri Governor Carnahan. In sometimes antagonistic exchanges the candidates addressed various issues including health care, tax cuts, education, and Affirmative Action.
