In this video Simon Borg-Olivier explains why you should breathe less than normal in yoga and exercise. Although many breath-control exercises (prânâyâmas) are taught in yoga classes around the world, the essence of prânâyâma is often missed. The essence of prânâyâma is not, as is commonly thought, to breathe more than normal (hyperventilation) as many people do when they practice prânâyâma but to eventually learn how to breathe slightly less than normal (mild hypoventilation). Hyperventilation is breathing more than what is the normal for what activity you are doing at the time.Hypoventilation is breathing less than what is the normal for what activity you are doing at the time.
