Record Talk Radio: Anatomy of a campaign

Join us on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. when Record Talk Radio will take a closer look at the recently concluded Bergen County Freeholder campaign.

Our guests will be Deirdre Woodbyrne, campaign manager for Republican Freeholder Robert Hermansen and Adam Silverstein, campaign consultant for the two Democratic freeholder candidates, Tracy Silna Zur and Steve Tanelli.

Tanelli and Zur won the election, giving the Democrats a 4-3 majority on the board starting in January.

Silverstein, born and raised in Bergen County is owner of a public relations and political consulting firm. His firm has both private sector and political clients. Silverstein does general campaign consulting, direct mail, television production and grassroots field programs.

He has worked on campaigns in New Jersey and New York. He started in politics as an intern in Bergen County in 2001 during the James McGreevy gubernatorial campaign.

Woodbyrne served as campaign manager for Hermansens successful 2009 campaign, then served as his freeholder aide and aide to former Bergen County Clerk Elizabeth Randall.

Before moving to New Jersey, Woodbyrne served as senior producer for the United States Senate Republican Conference, and and deputy press secretary and speechwriter for United States Senator Chuck Hagel, R-Nebraska.

She has been involved in campaigns on the grassroots level since 1992 both here and in Ireland.

Well talk about the approach each campaign took, what it takes to run a campaign in a county as large and diverse as Bergen and what effects Superstorm Sandy and the countys pay-to-play law had on the election.
