Letter: Coronavirus scare is well beyond faith – Grand Forks Herald

Coronavirus: God, where are you?

War, famine, pestilence. Here we go again. The biggest lie that human imagination ever created: A benevolent God? Really? We profess faith in this benevolent entity while simultaneously quaking in our boots, afraid to even go to church or synagogues or mosques. Hello! Life is not a rehearsal for an afterlife. It is the here and now.

Miracles and catastrophes the former far outnumbered by the latter. Why? Serendipity. Fortunate circumstances. A fire, a car crash, one survives, another doesnt. Circumstance, not divine intervention. Or is it that only God has the right to be capricious? Its absurd.

An infamous dictator said that a big lie is easier to believe than small ones. It is a matter of faith, not subjected to critical thinking but rather appealing to simplistic wishful thinking.

A hero is not one whose conduct is based on illusionary immortality (martyrdom). A hero is one whose conduct is not influenced by illusion, instead willingly accepts oblivion.

In other words, religious faith may comfort you, but if that is the basis for your conduct, you are ignorant, a fool, an idiot or all of the above.
