Hold Fast: Darryl Nelson
Rural Pierce County in Washington State, near Mt. Rainier National Park, isn #39;t far from the high-tech skyscrapers and internet millionaires of Seattle, but it may as well be in a different world. When you leave Eatonville, a small burgh of about 3000, head north on Hwy 161 for about five miles. Look right for a small driveway and clutch of single story houses. There, inconspicuously and with little concern for the outside world, blacksmith Darryl Nelson crafts his trademark iron animal heads. With little fanfare and a hammer made by his own hand Nelson carries on a tradition nearly as old as time itself. Fire Mountain and Meridian forges are his lifeblood, his connection to immortality. "I very much appreciate what the craftsmen who came before me left for me to be inspired by," he says. "So I #39;d like to leave some things to inspire the next generations." Consider it done.From:HoldFastSJViews:11 3ratingsTime:02:00More inPeople Blogs
