It was Freedom's night at the 12th annual Freddy Awards ceremony Thursday at the State Theatre in Easton. And it was especially Freedom leading man Daniel Youngelman's night, as he received two individual awards and saw his school win four more for a total of six.

The actor's excitement grew each time he went up to the podium to accept an award.

Freedom's "Crazy for You" won the most awards of the night and was crowned the best overall production.

Youngelman won a special MVP award for getting a record 10 nominations over his high school career and then capped it by winning the best actor award.

When "Crazy for You" was named best production, Youngelman and co-star Hannah Arnold went up to accept the award and Youngelman could barely restrain himself, jumping up and down and wrapping Arnold in a hug.

"We worked so hard for this and it paid off," he told the cheering cast.

He praised his "phenomenal" director Jennifer Wescoe, and Arnold simply said, "Everything he said."

Freedom also won for choreography, which Youngelman said was inspired by Susan Stroman's Broadway choreography.

Cast members showed off their fancy footwork with a high-energy rendition of "Slap That Bass," in which some of the girls became human basses.

When Youngelman won the special award, he choked up and said Wescoe "inspired me to no end," ending his speech with: "Who could ask for anything more," a reference to the Gershwin jazz standard "I Got Rhythm."
