Events for children, teens, adults at the library – The Herald-Times

Monroe County Public Library provides opportunities for local residents to read, learn, connect and create. The downtown library is at 303 E. Kirkwood Ave. and the Ellettsville branch is at 600 W. Temperance St. All events are free of charge. Event funding is provided by the Friends of the Library foundation.

Curious about the Ellettsville Teen Space, but you arent a teen? Patrons of all ages are invited to check it out on the fourth Saturday of every month there's a DIY design studio, video games, virtual reality, and more! Its noon-6 p.m. Saturday at the Ellettsville branch library.

Discover why yoga is such a powerful tool for keeping you healthy in body, mindand spirit! In this all-levels class, beginners safely learn the basics, while more experienced students take their practice to a deeper level. This event is suitable for people of all ages and most physical abilities. For ages 16 and up. Its noon-1 p.m. Saturday in meeting room B at the Ellettsville Branch Library. Join Maqub Reese, founder and CEO of Tribe Consulting, LLC and associate director for the Kelley Office of Diversity Initiatives, to explore your identities and learn what it means to be anti-racist during this engaging interactive workshop. You'll also learn about racial literacy, and global, national and local leaders who are Black, Indigenous andothe people of color and their intersections. For ages 7-12. Join the library staff as they create a safe space to discuss books written by and for LGBTQ+ individuals. In November and December, youll discuss "We Do This 'Til We Free Us: Abolitionist Organizing and Transforming Justice," by Mariame Kaba. Its 6-7 p.m. Monday on Zoom. For ages 16 and older. Books on Tap is the book club with a twist! Enjoy fantastic drinks, a comfortable atmosphereand great discussion on a compelling book. Each registered participant will receive a drink recipe that goes with the months book selection. This months selection is Binti by Nnedi Okorafor, winner of the Hugo Award and the Nebula Award for best novella! For ages 21 and older. November and December will also include discussion on what types of books you want to read in 2022 make sure to attend if you want to influence the book selections. Drop in for free one-on-one help with math and science-related assignments arithmetic,algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, physics, chemistryand ISTEP and SAT review. For middle school and high school students only. Its 7-8:45 p.m. Monday in program room 2B at the downtown library.

Join in the fun with stories, songs, puppets and more to encourage the development of early literacy skills in young children, using the guidelines from the Every Child Ready to Read program. Using 3D-modeling software (like the free and user-friendly Tinkercad), you can turn digital designs into real-world physical objects come design your own keychain! The library will guide you through the creative process, then print it! For ages 12-19. Its 4-5 p.m. Tuesday in The Ground Floor teen space at the downtown library. Drop in. Please note, 3D printing takes time you will need to return to the library at a later date to pick up your creation. Single color prints only.

Prenatal yoga is a gentle exercise that supports your changing body's needs, builds strengthand deepens awareness of your mind, body, and connection with your baby. For pregnant adults. Its 7-8 p.m. Tuesday in the childrens program room at the downtown library. Register at mcpl.info/calendar.

Create an original one-page comic to share with the community and enter to win one of 20 gift cards to Vintage Phoenix Comic Books! Categories are available for kids ages 7-11 and teens ages 12-19. Families with kids from infants to age 3 can play, sing, read and talk together with other little ones then enjoy toy time. Give back to the library by shopping at the bookstore! All movies and music at the Friends of the Library Bookstore are half price in November. The sale includes DVDs, CDs, LPs, tapes, and Blu-Rays. The Bookstore also offers unique gifts for library supporters, including masks, T-shirts, notecards, tote bags, and more! The bookstore is open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Visit mcpl.info/bookstore for more information.
