DAVIS, Calif. (AP) - A California university medical school dean is resigning amid controversy over doctor experiments on dying cancer patients.

University of California, Davis, School of Medicine dean Claire Pomeroy said on Monday that she will leave the university on June 30.

She's been dean for seven years and she earned $734,000 last year.

The Sacramento Bee (http://sacb.ee/103sf0D ) says UC Davis doctors may have experimented on dying brain cancer patients without proper university or federal approval.

The university last year banned two neurosurgeons, Dr. J. Paul Muizelaar and Dr. Rudolph J. Schrot, from any research involving human subjects.

The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Joint Commission, which accredits hospitals, are investigating the allegations.

The university's provost is also conducting a second internal probe.
