Justice League: Has the Snyder Cut Already Been Spoiled? | CBR – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Since the release of Justice League, a vocal subset of fans have demanded the release of the "Snyder Cut." The now-legendarily troubled production of Justice League culminated in director Zack Snyder leaving the project for personal reasons, with Joss Whedon coming on board to reshoot a huge chunk of the movie, as well as re-edit the film. The result was a film that received middling critical responses and disappointing box office returns.

However, over the years, the legend of the Snyder Cut, the original epic version of the film that Snyder intended to create, has only grown. It's a cut that either, depending on who you ask, sounds like an epic follow-up to his prior DC Extended Universe films or a colossal mess that was narrowly avoided. However, thanks to all the teases and hints that Snyder and other individuals have given over the years, we have a fairly good sense of what might've been in the Snyder Cut. Now, we're going to take a look back at everything we know to see what exactly the Snyder Cut had to offer.

RELATED: Justice League: Jason Momoa Watched the Snyder Cut, Wants Public To See It

We know that the entire opening of Justice League was entirely different in the Snyder Cut. Many of Superman's scenes comprise of reshoots -- as evidenced by the presence of the now-infamous CGI mustache removal. In Superman's first scene in the movie, his mustache is clearly removed, which makes it clear that it was reshot.

RELATED:Justice League: The Snyder Cut - 'Many VFX Shots Are Complete'

Following that, the film turns to Gotham City, where Batman encounters a Parademon. This might also be a reshoot, as it establishes a few key plot points relevant to the theatrical ending, but not the supposed Snyder Cut ending. The plot points in question are as follows: the Parademons smell fear and hate sonic noises, and neither of those elements come up in the Snyder Cut's alleged ending.

Multiple characters who had roles in the Snyder Cut had their parts dramatically trimmed or completely excised from the theatrical cut of Justice League.

Iris West, played by Kiersey Clemens, would have been rescued by the Flash in a scene that has leaked in its entirety. It's unclear how Iris would have factored into the plot, beyond, presumably, giving Barry Allen someone to talk to other than his dad in prison or the other superheroes.

Furthermore, Atlantis originally played a far larger role. Willem Dafoe's Vanko is removed entirely from the film, while Mera plays a very small role. Atlantis only itself appears in one scene. As indicated by how the final film lacks the several leaked visuals Snyder revealed early into post-production, there originally would have been more scenes in Atlantis.

RELATED: Junkie XL Confirms, He Scored Justice League's Snyder Cut

And even more importantly, Cyborg's role would have been greatly expanded. The original trailer showcases Cyborg, before his transformation, walking around and playing football. We would have seen him Victor Stone as a human, perhaps to contrast his later transformation later on in the film. Silas Stone would also have played a larger role in the original film, as it has since been confirmed that he, not Lois Lane, would have served as the narrator for the film's epilogue. Cyborg's father would have died halfway through, and the ending scene would be a video that he recorded for his son. The dialogue is apparently the same.

This indicates that Cyborg, who starts both cuts as a loner isolated from society, ends his story with a message of hope for the future. This, in essence, means that Cyborg's entire arc was cut from the film.

The film would've also featured more DC heroes, with a Green Lantern appearing at the end, as well as the reveal that General Swanwick was the Martian Manhunter the entire time.

However, in all cases, we still don't entirely know how all of this would tie into the main plot, if at all, and that aspect of the film hasn't really been spoiled beyond the acknowledgement of their existence.

As indicated by the CGI lip throughout the film, most scenes involving Superman probably would've been different, and there remains even more evidence that the film would've been drastically different originally.

In the theatrical version, the Flash and Cyborg go to dig up Superman's grave. However, as indicated by this behind-the-scenes photo, Snyder shot a scene at the cemetery with Wonder Woman and Aquaman present as well. Superman's resurrection and fight in the park is also subject to reshoots, though it remains uncertain how much of these scenes came from Snyder and how much came from Whedon.

RELATED:Joker Is What Zack Snyder's DC Movies Wanted to Be

What is undeniable, however, is that the park fight scene did exist in the Snyder Cut, in some capacity. Early trailers show Cyborg taking a tank head-on in the same park in Metropolis where they fight Superman. What remains uncertain is whether or not this fight would've been remotely similar to how it plays out in the movie.

Superman also, at one point, would return to his Kryptonian ship. We can see from a production still from the Snyder Cut that, at one point, Clark was going to consider donning his iconic black suit before choosing his more colorful one. This hints that we would have seen the black suit as an Easter Egg, if nothing else.

Furthermore, almost all of Lois's scenes in the Snyder Cut are with Superman, who, again, has his CGI mustache. So we can assume that Lois Lane's scenes are largely from reshoots. However, we don't know what her role in Snyder's cut of the film would have been.

Undoubtedly, the most well-known change from the Snyder Cut to the theatrical one is the role that Darkseid played in the film. Darkseid exists as a presence throughout the Snyder Cut, while in the theatrical cut Darkseid is barely alluded to. In the Snyder Cut, while Steppenwolf would have remained the core antagonist, Darkseid would have loomed over him as a presence, much like how Thanos looms over both Loki and Ronan in both The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy,

The most explicit appearance of Darkseid would've been during the flashback to Steppenwolf's first invasion, where we would've seen Uxas, Darkseid before becoming Darkseid proper. But arguably the biggest change in the film is who would have defeated Steppenwolf. While in the film it's a tag-team brawl, in the Snyder Cut, we know that it would've been Wonder Woman who decapitates the villain with her sword.

RELATED: Zack Snyder Says Martian Manhunter Was In Justice League Theatrical Release

In addition, much of the material connecting Justice League to Batman v. Superman's Knightmare sequence was cut, which results in that dangling subplot meaning precious little. Presumably, we would have seen the Flash's time travel as well as how Lois is "the Key." However, the problem remains that, at this time, we still don't understand entirely how this might've played out, other than through the scrapped idea to kill Lois Lane in the Batcave early on in the film.

Ultimately, while many core elements of the Snyder Cut have been revealed, much still remains in the dark. The Snyder Cut represents a fascinating possibility of what could have been. For the moment, there's no way of knowing if we'll ever actually see what it contains, but if it is ever released, we have a fairly strong idea of what to expect from it.

Song of the Day: "Cyborg" – LemonWire

Local Indianapolis duo Brother O Brother takes on artificial intelligence with a heavier sound in their most recent single, Cyborg.

If youre familiar at all with the Indy music scene, then youve no doubt at least heard of Brother O Brother. Their live performances have been dubbed as some of the best in the area, with publications like NUVO going so far as to call them the best rock band in all of Indianapolis.

Ive personally seen Brother O Brother live a few times over the past few years at random venues or music festivals. And Ive got to say, every single time I did, they were one of the most entertaining acts on stage. Its hard to believe just two guys can create so much energy.

Before we get into our song of the day, heres a little bit of info on Brother O Brothers career so far.

Brother O Brother is just two guys, and a lot of rock. Chris Banta brings the shredding guitar and soaring vocals, while Warner Swopes bangs the drums. Similarly to The Black Keys, Banta and Swopes have found success by keeping their lineup simple, and their output relentless.

With roots in garage rock, blues, and gospel, on paper Brother O Brother may look like a Black Keys doppelganger. But as soon as you listen to them, you realize theyve managed to carve out their own niche within the space.

Since 2013, Brother O Brother has been pumping out quality material through a variety of labels including Fonoflo, Grimtale, and Romanus Records. In 2017, Brother O Brother released their most recent album, Neon Native, following it up with their EP Monster Truck last year. Earlier this year, they announced that they were at work on another album with the release of Cyborg.

After listening to Cyborg, fans can expect a change in tone for Brother O Brothers upcoming album. The single brings the high-energy weve all come to expect from Banta and Swopes, but has a heavier edge to it than most of their other material. I know, I know, Monster Truck was pretty dang heavy. But Cyborg is a different kind of heavy. Its much closer to thrash, punk, and metal than anything else theyve made.

Another interesting development we can hear in Cyborg is the light use of electronic sounds and synths. This could be a hint that well be hearing more of that in Brother O Brothers upcoming album. I wouldnt be surprised if this slight shift in style is foreshadowing a concept album around artificial intelligence and technology.

The lyrics and structure of Cyborg seem to reflect that a concept album may be in the works. Halfway through the track, theres a break where Banta belts out a paranoid A.I. monologue.

Hundreds of thousands of years of knowledge wrapped up in mere seconds, mere moments / What was once a wiretap, now turns on your light / Yes, it turns on your wife, turns on your very soul.

It goes on, but I wont ruin the experience of listening to it all first-hand.

Overall, Cyborg is an angry, thrashy push back against the rising influence of artificial intelligence. While listening to Brother O Brothers song on repeat may convince you theres cause to panic, you can probably relax for now. Artificial intelligence isnt going to become a Terminator-level threat anytime soon. Probably.

For the past few months, weve mostly pulled our songs of the day from the realm of relatively well-known or successful musicians. But in doing so, weve unintentionally been ignoring some of the great music thats right in our own backyard. Going forward, well be putting a larger emphasis on showcasing songs from local Indianapolis artists. We want to show off just how awesome our local scene is.

If you like the local Indy scene, be sure to check out LemonWire on YouTube, where were bringing in local artists to our Music Corner and showing them off!

Cyborg Is the Cure for DCeaseds Zombie Virus – Or At Least He WAS – CBR – Comic Book Resources

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for DCeased #6 by Tom Taylor, Trevor Hairsine, Stefano Gaudiano, Rain Beredo and Saida Temofonte, in stores now.

The end of the DC Universe began in the opening pages of DCeased #1. After Darkseid discovered the other half of the Anti-Life Equation could be found in Cyborg, the Lord of Apokolips kidnapped Victor Stone and took him to his home planet to extract themissing piece from the superhero. However, to make sure the Anti-Life Equation would be safely collected, Darkseid called upon the Black Racer to help. Unfortunately, the process created something else entirely: a deadly zombie virus able to travel through technology. Darkseid and Apokolips were the virus' first victims, but it wouldn't stop there.

Before long, it found its way to Earth and infected human civilization through the Internet. No one was safe from this virus -- not even superheroes such as Batman, Aquaman, the Flash and even Superman. The virus systematically took out the biggest superheroes in the world, with only a handful left to save what people they could.

Throughout the rapid fire of death and destruction, it seems there was never any time to try and figure out if there was a cure for this virus. But as DCeased #6 reveals, there actually is one. Or rather, there was.

RELATED: DCeased #6 Sees Wonder Woman Forge a Weapon to Kill [SPOILER]

In DCeased's final chapter, the remaining heroes plan to evacuate the Earth with two spaceships filled with millions of survivors. But before they can do so, they must defeat an infected Superman, who can easily destroy both Arks. To take out the Man of Steel, Wonder Woman builds a new weapon and takes the fight directly to him. Unfortunately, while she manages to wound him, he reciprocates by infecting the Amazon Princess. With another powerful hero down, Cyborg uses Wonder Woman's own lasso against her, in order to subdue her.

Thanks to the magic lasso's abilities, Cyborg is able to get some answers. Compelling the twisted Anti-Life Equation infected Wonder Woman to tell the truth, Cyborg learns that there a cure for the virus does indeed exist. "The cure is in you," she tells him. "You are man and machine," she explains. "You are binary. Off and on. Patient zero and the one. The alpha. The omega."

While this revelation is shocking, it also makes a lot of sense. The virus was created in Cyborg, which means that the way to stop it is also inside of him -- he just never had the knowledge or the time to figure it out.

RELATED: A Major DC Hero Suffers the Most Brutal Death Possible

Unfortunately, Cyborg will be the only one who ever knows that he is the cure. As soon as he learns the answer, he means to contact the Arks. However, the infected Wonder Woman frees herself from the lasso, and proceeds to rip Victor's head off, dumping his body in a ravine, which gives the series the kind of nihilistic ending usually reserved for horror films.

With Cyborg now dead, the only hope of getting rid of the zombie virus is now gone. What survivors there are have now left the Earth behind to settle onto a new planet. They may be safe for now, but the threat of the virus still looms. Somehow, it may also find its way back into the wider universe, if it hasn't already.

The only thing deadlier than Leslie Smiths hands is (apparently) her Chapstick – MMA Mania

Bellator 233: Salter vs. van Steenis takes place this weekend (Fri., Nov. 8, 2019) at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okla., streaming live online via DAZN. Two Middleweights collide in the main event as John Salter (16-4) and Costello van Steenis (12-1) each look to improve their standing behind Rafael Lovato Jr. for a future title shot.

Speaking of future title shots, The Peacemaker Leslie Smith (11-7-1) is currently on a three-fight win streak, including her promotional debut at Bellator 224. Coincidentally that fight was in the exact same venue as her next bout this Friday against Arlene Blencowe (12-7). As physically and mentally durable as Smith is, shell have to redouble those efforts against Angerfist if she wants to move into Featherweight title contention. Blencowe has knockouts in 58 percent (seven of 12) of her wins, including her last two in a row. Either one will get in line behind Cyborg to face Julia Budd, but thats not such a bad place to be.

Smith recently spoke with Smith about returning to WinStar for another Bellator bout at 145 pounds and the curious fact she won her last outing by majority (not unanimous) decision.

Yeah, I was surprised, but I tend to think that Im winning fights when Im in em anyway. When youre inside of the cage, you can really steal somebody elses energy. You feel it going down. I feel like in a fight where theres this thing where youre kind of a VAMPIRE of someone elses energy, because theres a transfer of energy going on. So I know that people outside of the cage cant feel that, and so my reality is a little bit different from their understanding.

Although John McCarthy said round two was close during the Sinead Kavanagh fight, the striking dominance and forward aggression throughout defy one judge scoring it 28-28.

I was really surprised that she was avoiding me so much. I really thought especially after watching her fight against Arlene Blencowe, who Im about to face, they really stood toe to toe with each other in the middle of the cage. Thats how I was expecting Sinead to come at me, or just to stay there with me, and so when we ended up with her backpedaling and me pushing her to the outside of the cage the whole time, it was not what I expected so I had to adjust pretty quickly.

Alls well that ends well, though, and happily the win does indeed set her up to face Angerfist Blencowe this Friday night, an opportunity Smith is very excited about.

Im still waiting for the opponent who is going to stand in the middle and bang with me. I feel like thats the kind of fight that I really enjoy, thats the kind of opponent I really enjoy, and I feel like thats the kind of fight that the fans enjoy the most. Im hoping that Arlene is going to be the one who stays up there in the middle of the plate.

Both women are returning to the same venue they fought at last time out, but as the native country fighter Smith may have the homefield advantage here.

Yeah, totally! Im excited! Its always nice to have a little bit of familiarity, and I know some things about the area. Ive got an AirBNB set up which is nice, its always nice to have a spot a little bit away from the casino to go to. I know ahead of time not to bring anything into the venue. They wouldnt even let me bring Chapstick! The commission, they couldnt let me bring Chapstick into the back.

Its hard to imagine that would be considered a performance-enhancing drug (PED), but Ill let The Peacemaker tell the story herself.

Keri Melendez, my teammate, she has been coaching me and training with me, she just won her fight a month ago in Temecula. She was standing right next to me and the commissioner was like, Uh yeah so you cant bring that and it was more than Chapstick. It was Chapstick and mascara, you know I wanted to look nice after the fight. And I looked at him and I was like, Its MAKEUP! Like, are you serious? I thought he was just kidding! And he was like, Yeah, no. You cant bring it. And so I was like, Huh? And Keri looked over at that moment and she was like, Do you want me to take that? And I was like, Uh, you can TRY! So she went through the exact same process and did the exact same look at him and was like, Um, its makeup! It was pretty funny but at least now I know!

Its crazy that Greg Hardy used an inhaler between rounds, but Smith couldnt have a makeup kit for after her fight. Nevertheless, when shes done with Blencowe they may both need it.

Yeah, Im really excited about it. She is an accomplished MMA fighter. This is going to be her 20th fight, just like its MY 20th fight. Were actually pretty pretty close in the records, and I think its going to be really exciting. People are going to get to watch two seasoned veterans going at it.

Does Smith believe the winner of this fight is next in line to face Julia Budd vs. Cris Cyborg after their match in January?

Absolutely! That is definitely what Im looking at this fight. In my mind this is the fight for No. 1 contender. It has been a long time since Ive been able to see such a clear path to a title shot, and Im definitely on that path right now. (Im) going to seize the opportunity.

The worlds largest cruise ship has a bar with robot bartenders. Heres how my margarita compared to one made by a human. – Business Insider

The worlds largest cruise ship is filled with surprises, from a working carousel to a zip line and even a Starbucks, but one of the wildest things on it is undoubtedly the Bionic Bar a fully functioning cocktail bar staffed entirely by two robot bartenders.

I recently took a cruise in the name of journalism, and just had to find out whether cyborg concoctions taste as good as human-made ones.

Keep scrolling for the full experience.

The pros are that theres no squeezing through a crowd to get to a stressed-out bartender, no playing favorites, and totally consistent drinks, as well as the showmanship, of course.

I love a good gimmick and this was a super fun experience but for my next drink, Ill be seeking out a human.

The Top 15 Onscreen Terminator Robots, Ranked in Order – Superherohype.com

The Top 15 Terminator Robots, Ranked

Whether we like every Terminator movie or dont (lets face it, most of us dont love at least one of them), we can usually all agree that the robots are cool. But how cool? The Arnold Schwarzenegger cyborg clearly commands the most popularity, but where does he rank in terms of actual effectiveness? Were going to bring the fake math and work it out, by ranking the top 15 Terminator robots to appear on the big screen. Note: this list only includes the movie Terminators. The Sarah Connor Chronicles and the comics are their own thing. And while we dig Cameron and the Robocop vs. Terminator dogs, we had to draw the line somewhere!

Matt Smith might have played the most amazing, powerful Terminator of them allhad Genisys actually started a new trilogy. According to the writers, he was a dimension-hopping Skynet in humanoid form who traveled the multiverse to fix the timelines in his favor. Thats a perfectly ironic bit of casting. Unfortunately, based on what he actually does onscreen, we cant say very much about him, save that he turned John Connor. Thats a twist but doesnt offer much idea of what he can really do.

Marcus Wrights story has a great hook. A prisoner on death row donates his body to science, then wakes up in the apocalypse. Later, he finds out he has been turned into a cyborg and an unwitting spy, with a conveniently donation-ready human heart. Whatever you think of him as a character, though, he sucks as a Terminator. Skynet would have done just as well to plant a bomb inside him instead. And they definitely blew it by making him the same blood type as the one guy theyre definitely trying to kill.

Basically just mildly intelligent miniature tanks. They barely qualify as Terminators, but since theyre officially the first ones, they count.

Robot snakes that can swim are creepy, but ultimately more effective as drain cleaners than human killers. Unless humans hide in drains and sewers. Then theyre great. But on land, definitely inferior to humanoids.

The icon of the franchise, besides Arnold Schwarzenegger in sunglasses. Endoskeletons were an instant creepy classic since their introduction. With a look thats both a throwback to walking-skeleton ghost stories and an echo of future mechanization fears, they strike a primal nerve. However, in the future war, theyre basically cannon fodder.

They make terrible fake humans, but these rotting rubber-skins with big guns look supremely creepy. Its everything scary about Terminators combined with every suppressed fear of mannequins and dolls. The biggest disappointment with Salvation not being a great movie is that we never got good consumer-grade toys of these guys. (Mega-expensive Hot Toys figures aside.)

Infiltrating is tossed out the window with this one. Giant robots make for great intimidation tactics, but they also make much bigger targets. With humans waging guerilla warfare against Skynet, giant war machines prove less effective than ground-level soldiers.

The ultimate fusion of man and machine, the nanocyte T-300o is theoretically the most powerful shape-shifter and best infiltrator in the arsenal. It would also have been the most shocking plot twist if trailers hadnt spoiled it. But ultimately all it succeeded in doing was accidentally turning the Arnold Terminator into a T-1000, giving Skynet an even more powerful enemy. Way to go. Had he been more human, he might have known: its not the size of your powers, but what you do with them that counts.

The new infantry of the future, these endoskeletons up the ante by having all the powers of Dr. Octopus. Spider-Man would have his hands full, and humans barely have a chance. It takes cybernetic upgrades for even a fighter as gifted as Grace to have a real shot against them. The downside is theyre not well suited to be infiltrators, because where would the tentacles fit inside a human skin?

Humans can run from an Arnold Terminator, because hes slow and deliberate. Nobody can run faster than a robot motorcycle. But because bikes are loud, potential victims will hear them coming, which helps.

Are these vehicles piloted by robots, or just giant vehicle-shaped robots? Nobody knows for certain. But theyre invaluable to that whole future war atmosphere, just by hanging in the sky or crushing skulls on the ground, and looking badass.

The original liquid metal shape-shifter is like a robot Johnny Knoxville it just keeps moving forward no matter how many times it gets blown apart or knocked down. And it even has a mildly impish sense of humor to boot (that finger wag rules). But its vulnerability to extreme heat and cold needs work. As the directors cut of T2 reveals, he was already starting to mess up before the Connors and their cyborg pal messed him up forever in that molten steel. The next generation of variants learned from his mistakes.

He just keeps coming back. The original Arnold model appears in nearly every film (well get to the main exception in a couple more entries). And its because hes the most popular. As T2, Genisys, and Dark Fate reveal, hes also capable of learning at least a facsimile of compassion, and functioning as a father figure. The problem is he also usually gets destroyed at the end of each adventure, so his real super power is just having multiple bodies that keep being sent back in time. Its kind of like The Prestige, except robots dont care so much about dying again and again.

Skynets major backup plan if their first Terminator failed seems to primarily have been to send back several more. But not until the T-X did they realize that maybe programming two plans into one Terminator was a good idea. So shes not just here for John Connor, but also to ensure Skynets creation, plus she has a blaster under that liquid skin. And as we see in Dark Fate, they probably should have thought of that of all for the T-800s as well. Silly Skynet you retconned yourself out of existence. Your flaws are officially Legion.

Most Terminators can be taken out with the extreme heat of a plasma weapon, or at least crushed in a hydraulic press or melted in red hot steel. But not the Rev-9, whose flexible skeleton never breaks and whose processor cannot be crushed. Specifically vulnerable to nothing less than an electromagnetic pulse, this guy can also split in two and hack any computer system with his fingers. Hes the threat Ultron should have been to the Avengers, if JARVIS/Vision hadnt immediately matched him move for move.

Why the T-850 over the T-800? Simple. The slightly older Arnold was the first Terminator to successfully kill John Connor. More impressively, it was the future Messiah, height-of-his-powers John Connor. Assuming we can take the Terminators word for it, of course. He did tell us to Tawk to da hand, after all.

Which Terminator model would you rank at the top? Let us know in the comment section below!

Behind The Night: Diaz vs Cyborg – The Official Website of the Ultimate Fighting Championship

I never knew that was the way they made it appear, Knapp said. That was not it on any level. I was there. I had never seen anything like that. Somebody yelling at the crowd while they were fighting.

When Knapps favorite Diaz moment of her career was spun into him attacking Cris Cyborg, she wasnt the only one upset by the spin being put on the story. As classless as the broadcast wanted to make Nick Diaz look, it wasnt a Nick Diaz move.

It kind of upset [Diaz] because the broadcast was portraying it that hes talking [smack] to Cris Cyborg, Knapp said. If that would have been some female out there it wouldnt have been like that. Could he have leaned over and said, can you keep your bitch quiet? or something, could that have happened? Sure.

Knapp explained that while it was happening, she was watching her favorite Diaz moment of all time unfold. Winning a fight while also verbally lighting somebody up in the crowd. It came as nothing but disappointment to find out that the moment was spoiled and twisted. Instead of standing up for himself, it transformed to him kicking Cris Cyborg while she was down.

While its always fun to make the bad guy look worse, a look inside one of Strikeforces most memorable moments without using forum posters as sources only further proves one thing, Nick Diaz doesnt back down from any man. To the men who got away with throwing drinks and running their mouths to the leader of the Nick Diaz Army, stay away from the 209!

Diaz would successfully defend his Strikeforce title yet again against Paul Daley before returning to the Octagon.

Terminally-ill roboticist on his way to becoming the world’s first full cyborg – Firstpost

tech2 News StaffOct 17, 2019 10:11:15 IST

An American scientist battling a muscle-wasting disease hasannounced that heis in-transitionto become "the world's first full cyborg." The procedure is a part of a life-extensionexperiment involving the scientist a world-renowned roboticist whowas told he had a year to live.

Approaching age 60, Dr Peter Scott-Morgan was diagnosed with motor neurone disease, alsoknown as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).ALSis currently untreatable. It causes muscle weakness, and often, visible wasting away ofthe patient's musculature.

Now, Scott-Morgan, who was given until2019 to live, is on an attemptingto have all his biological organs replaced withmachinery. Once a full cyborg, Scott-Morgan will be able to controlan artificial intelligenceavatar that resembles his own face before his degenerativedisease consumes his vital organs.

Scott-Morganrecently completed one of the first, critical steps on this journey: the removal ofhisvoicebox.Withouta voicebox, salivacan find its way into his lungs and cause him to suffocate a big concern with ALS patients. He has also had a feeding tubeinserted directly into his stomach, a catheter into his bladder and a colostomy bag directly onto his colon so he no longer needs to eat or excrete with any conscious muscle control.

The removal of his voicebox and movement viaatop-endwheelchair which he said on Twitter is'brilliantly engineered',allows him to stand, lie flat and go fast, havebrought hima step closerin his transition from livingahuman life to surviving in a robotic one.

He has alsocreated an avatar ofhimselfbeforethe first visible signsof ALS set in a"face" with a range of facial expressions thatScott-Morgan will continue to use as the disease progresses and he loses control of his expressions and facial movements.

Part of the scientist's full cyborg technologyis a revolutionary eye-tracking technology that will allow him to control multiple computerswithhis eyes alone. Among several other uses, thisgives Scott-Morgancontrol of his own electronic bed and a hoist that helps him move around on his own.

A daybefore he underwent thelaryngectomy (voice-box removal), Scott-Morganannounced the endof 'Peter 1.0' and thestartof his life as a 'Full Cyborg' in the making as 'Peter 2.0'.

"This is my last post as Peter 1.0. Tomorrow (Thursday, 10 October) I trade my voice for potentially decades of life as we complete the final medical procedure for my transition to Full Cyborg, the month I was told statistically I would be dead," he said in a tweet. "I'm not dying, I'm transforming. Oh, how I love science," he added.

With allthe procedures he has lined up, their associated risks, and being terminally-ill, Scott-Morgansaysheisn't interested in surviving ALS he intends to 'thrive' as a cybernetic being. Thisvision is far from just a dream for the roboticist "we are within touching distance of changing - everything. I'm not dying - I'm transforming!" he has said on his website.

Disembodied cyborg hand can solve a Rubiks Cube using scary smart AI – SYFY WIRE

The machines arent just getting stronger; theyre also getting smarter way smarter. Nothing says kill it with fire! like watching the disembodied hand from a metal skeleton writhing and twisting as it deliberately, methodically, implacably works its way through a Rubiks Cube until the puzzles solved. And now we cant help but wonder if the next thing this cold, calculating android wants to solve might be, yknow, people.

OpenAI the nonprofit tech outfit thats already brought us predictive artificial intelligence that can finish your thought when given a writing prompt (to hilarious effect), and can write a Lord of the Rings-style script all on its own has turned its attention to actual robotics with its latest AI demonstration, and were equally mesmerized and terrified. Check out the Terminator-like mechanical magic on display in the video below:

We dont know if the fact that this is just a hand without a body is amplifying the scare factor, or if weve just seen too many dystopian movies about murderous cyborgs. But either way, of course thats not OpenAIs goal here.

The reason [we were] excited to work on the Rubiks Cube task is that it really requires human-level dexterity, said OpenAI robotics staffer Matthias Plappert, via VentureBeat. Its a [highly] complicated task in the sense that you need to really precisely control your fingers in order to rotate the [cube] faces. [We] wanted to see how far [we could] push this approach

While it looks as though the cyber-hand is reacting to thoughts its machine learning-backed system is having on the fly, thats only partially the case. Rather than deploying a real-time AI that can think for itself independent of circumstance (a truly next-level task), this robot uses 13,000 years worth of databased simulation learning that allows it to draw on a deep well of conditional actions based on a specific challenge in this case, the challenge of solving a Rubiks Cube.

The hand is instructed by an AI algorithm called automatic domain randomization (ADR), according to the report, and can even see the positions and colors of the 54 separate colored squares that make up the cubes six 9-square sides. All of the information needed to solve the cube comes packed into the database on which the AI relies, and the software deploys reinforcement learning that is, adapted learning based on outcomes that the bot is able to measure and assess in real time to get nearer and nearer to its ultimate goal.

So long as the ultimate goal is lining up all the pretty colors into neat 3x3grids, well admit to being more than a little bit impressed. But if bots like these ever aspire to more lofty goals like organizing into a global network hellbent on eliminating mankind from the problematic equation of existence then we may have to break out the time displacement sphere and summon up a John Connor from the future to come and save us, before things get trulyout of hand.

ALS affected, terminally-ill Robotics expert will transform himself into the world’s first ‘cyborg’ – Digit

Weve all watched and read a ton of Cyberpunk media from comics, novels, games and even movies. One of the major staples of the Cyberpunk genre is the idea that technology and humanity will be entwined in a way that seems indistinguishable. Basically, cyborgs. And although were a little too early to witness the birth of the machine, were now seeing the first steps in biological augmentation with small-time hackers bio-modifying themselves. In a step that may change the way we look at human-machine integration, 61-year-old Dr. Peter Scott-Morgan has decided to take things to the next level and turn himself into a full-fledged cyborg.

A little background on this topic first. Dr. Peter Scott-Morgan has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Latera Sclerosis (ALS). The disease affects the motor neurons and causes weakness and atrophy in the muscles as the patient slowly wilts away. There is no cure for ALS. Scott-Morgan was diagnosed with the disease in 2018 and was given till 2019 to live. But, hes got the perfect solution to his problem. Have all his biological organs replaces with machines. It sounds far-fetched but put yourself in Scott-Morgans shoes. Its a tough decision but one that has to be made if Scott-Morgan is to live longer than 2019.

His first step towards being a full cyborg was to remove his voicebox. He also has a feeding tube that is directly inserted into his stomach and a catheter into his bladder. With these modifications, Scott-Morgan will no longer need to use his muscles for eating or relieving himself.

Scott-Morgan went a step further and created a digital replica of himself. This model will allow Scott-Morgan to communicate with the outside world after he loses control of his facial muscles. Scott-Morgan will also be using eye-tracking technology that will allow him to control various devices using only his eyes. He calls himself Peter 2.0!

This seems like a drastic step to take but in the case of Dr. Peter Scott-Morgan, this seems like the only step to take. If successful, this will mark a turning point in the merging of robotics and medicine.

Is this guitar-playing cyborg from Japan the future of heavy metal? – Guitar World

Japanese hard-rockers Ironbunny are a Kawaii metal group fronted by three vocalists: Hina, Kotono and Minami. So far, so Babymetal. But do Babymetal have a cyborg guitarist who comes from a future 300 years ahead? Hell no.

Meet Ediee Ironbunny, the automated shred machine who has time-travelled back to 2019 in order to save rock n roll - and, as it happens, film an exclusive playthrough video for Guitar World.

This clip for new single 23 - twenty three showcases Ediees precision-engineered riff delivery system, as well as his/her/its astonishingly lifelike lead technique, complete with a slick tapping flourish to round out the solo.

Dying scientist is about to become first cyborg – Times of India

LONDON: A terminally-ill scientist who is dying from a muscle wasting disease has taken the final steps to become the worlds first full cyborg. Peter Scott-Morgan, 61, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease two years ago, but instead of accepting his fate he decided to challenge what it meant to be human.

He said he wanted to push the boundaries of what science can achieve so decided to extend his life and become fully robotic known as Peter 2.0.

The world-renowned roboticist has already undergone a series of incredibly complex and risky operations during his journey. This has included developing a remarkably lifelike avatar of his face before he lost any muscle. The avatar is designed to respond using artificially intelligent body language and he has also explored eye-tracking technology to enable him to control multiple computers using only his eyes.

And this week he announced the final procedure in his transition into a robot where he traded his voice for potentially decades of life. Scott-Morgan labelled this final procedure as the end of Peter 1.0 with a post this week on Twitter , and wrote: This is my last post as Peter 1.0. Tomorrow (Thursday 10/10) I trade my voice for potentially decades of life as we complete the final medical procedure for my transition to Full Cyborg, the month I was told statistically I would be dead. The Terminator timeline explained: Every key event from the franchise in chronological order – GamesRadar

While he's widely hailed as a visionary director, James Cameron likely had no idea just how unwieldy the Terminator franchise would become when he first sent a from the future to eliminate Sarah Connor in 1984. Since then, the Terminator timeline has grown into the past and the future through four more movies and a TV show not to mention numerous books, comics and videogames.

That expansion has meant a lot of time travel and rewriting of history, meaning the Terminator timeline is now a complex beast far less linear than the chronologies of the Star Wars and Star Trek universes. History is repeatedly rewritten and character fates routinely altered as the Terminator saga branches off into numerous alternate timelines there are at least three dates given for the world-ending Judgment Day, Sarah Connor has died a couple of times, and some instalments even pretend that previous movies never happened.

Indeed, the upcoming Dark Fate (the first Terminator movie to boast the involvement of Cameron since 1991s Terminator 2: Judgment Day) is a direct sequel to T2 that acts as if Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), Terminator Salvation (2009), Terminator Genisys (2015) and the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008-09) TV show never happened. This is a continuation of the story from Terminator 1 and Terminator 2, Cameron told the Hollywood Reporter back in 2017. We're pretending the other films were a bad dream. Or an alternate timeline, which is permissible in our multi-verse.

For those looking to understand every Terminator, weve pulled together all the disparate strands of the Terminator timeline into one coherent history, all the way from the birth of Sarah Connor to the death of her son, John aka the saviour of humanity. To make it a little easier, weve flagged up which of the sagas many timelines the event is taking place in: the Prime Timeline is the one established by James Camerons first two movies; the Terminator 3 Timeline follows on from Rise of the Machines; the Sarah Connor Chronicles Timeline shows the arc of the TV show; and the Genisys Timeline reveals the rewritten Terminator history established by the 2015 movie.

So boot up for the ultimate ride through the Terminator timeline and remember, there is no fate but what they make Warning: spoilers for every Terminator film other than Dark Fate, which reaches UK cinemas October 23 and US cinemas November 1.

The Prime timeline

The Terminator (1984)

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)

The Terminator 3 timeline

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)

Terminator Salvation (2009)

The Sarah Connor Chronicles timeline

The Terminator (1984)

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008-09)

The Genisys timeline

Terminator Genisys (2015)

1965-ish Sarah Connor, mother of the hero of humanitys resistance against the machines, is born.

Why is the Terminator timeline so vague about the date? The script for The Terminator specifies that shes 19 years old in 1984, suggesting she was born in 1965, which could also tally with psychiatrist Dr Silberman saying in Terminator 2 that shes 29 in 1995. But in Terminator 3, Sarahs gravestone says she was born in 1959, while Terminator: Genisys reckons she was nine in 1973, which suggests a birth year 1964. Thats what living your life off the grid does to you

1973 (GENISYS TIMELINE) A shapeshifting T-1000 arrives from the future to kill a nine-year-old Sarah Connor, but luckily a T-800 has also come back to protect her. Sarahs parents are killed by the T-1000, leaving that particular T-800 model to become an unlikely father figure known as Pops and kickstart a whole new Terminator timeline. (Terminator Genisys)

1984 (PRIME TIMELINE) A T-800 cyborg from the future arrives in mid-80s Los Angeles, and embarks on a killing spree whose victims include several women named Sarah Connor, and a police station full of cops. Ultimately, however, the Terminator misses its target, failing to assassinate the one Sarah Connor whos essential for the future survival of humanity it ends up crushed in a hydraulic press, though crucially, a processor chip and an arm survive... Kyle Reese, who travelled back from the future to protect Sarah, dies. (The Terminator)

(GENISYS TIMELINE) Kyle Reeses mission to intercept the original Terminator is instantly made a hell of a lot easier when another version of Sarah Connor and her Terminator dad, Pops, intercept the cyborg assassin on its arrival in 1984. They also save him from a T-1000 whos come to sample the joys of the mid-80s. Based on the Genisys is Skynet message that Reese hears during his journey back in time, Sarah and Pops alter their plan to time travel to 1997 to prevent Judgment Day. Instead, Sarah and Reese set their time coordinates to 2017, where a new computer operating system called Genisys is about to go live (Terminator Genisys)

1985 (PRIME TIMELINE) Future military hero John Connor is born on February 28 and spends his life dealing with the impossible expectations placed on him by his mother.

1995 (PRIME TIMELINE) Another of Skynets cyborg goons arrives in the 20th century the difference this time, however, is that the target is 10-year-old John Connor, and that the T-1000 is a liquid metal mimetic polyalloy shapeshifter perfectly placed to make the most of ILMs pioneering CG technology. A reprogrammed T-800 who looks a lot like his 1984 predecessor arrives to serve as Johns protector, and follows the boys order to break his mother, Sarah, out of the secure psychiatric hospital she now calls home.

In the ensuing carnage, the trio destroy the Cyberdyne Systems research facility thats developing Skynet from reverse-engineered parts harvested from the 1984 Terminator inventor Miles Dyson is killed in the blast. With Judgment Day seemingly averted and the T-1000 eliminated, all is seemingly well though the cuddly T-800 takes his newly installed casual vocabularly to a fiery grave. No problemo! (Terminator 2: Judgment Day)

1997 (PRIME TIMELINE) The US government gives Skynet full control of strategic defence on August 4. After learning at a geometric rate, it becomes self-aware on August 29 a key date in the Terminator timeline, because at this point, its too late for humans to pull the plug. Calculating that all humans are a threat to its survival, the super-computer launches a missile attack on Russia, who subsequently retaliate in kind. Three billion people are killed on Judgment Day, initiating a decades-long war between humans and machines. (Terminator 2: Judgment Day)

(TERMINATOR 3 TIMELINE) At least, that was the original plan, but the Skynet trampling events of 1995 postponed the apocalypse at least for a few years. Even with Judgment Day averted, however, its still a bad year for the Connor family. Suffering from leukaemia, Sarah lives long enough to see the world not ending on August 29, but dies from her illness before the year is out. (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines)

1999 (SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES TIMELINE) It turns out Sarah Connor wasnt dead after all, as the short-lived TV show pretends erases the events of Terminator 3 from the Terminator timeline. Instead, Sarah and John are still on the run from law-enforcement authorities who think theyre responsible for Miles Dysons death when they meet Cameron, a reprogrammed female Terminator sent back to protect John. She transports the Connors forward to 2007 to continue their fight against Skynet because you just know that, er, itll be back. (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles)

2003 (TERMINATOR 3 TIMELINE) Just before his execution, death row inmate Marcus Wright agrees to sign his body over to Cyberdyne Systems Genetic Research Division. Its not the last well see of him he survives Judgment Day in stasis. (Terminator: Salvation)

(PRIME TIMELINE) Kyle Reese is born at least, he is in the original Terminator timeline, as James Camerons script says he was 26 years old when he travelled back from 2029. However, in the 2017-set Terminator Genisys, Reese meets his 12-year-old self, which suggests hes born in 2005.

2004 (TERMINATOR 3 TIMELINE) A T-X Terminator arrives from 2032 with a mission to wipe out figures wholl be key members of the humans resistance. With his mother having passed away seven years earlier, John Connor is living off the grid in LA, and hes done such a good job of disappearing that its pure coincidence the T-X finds him she gatecrashes an early meeting with his future wife (and future military leader) Kate Brewster.

With a reprogrammed T-850 acting as a guardian angel (yes, this one looks like the original 1984 Terminator as well), they go on the run. Meanwhile, the US military activates Skynet to counteract a computer virus that in a cunning ruse has actually been unleashed by Skynet itself. So Kates dad, a military general, gives them the location and access codes to Crystal Peak, a facility John believes houses Skynet. However, hes unable to destroy the computer. Crystal Peak is really just a shelter to protect the couple from Judgment Day, which is, by now, unavoidable because Skynet has become totally integrated with the internet. After a couple of false starts, the world belatedly ends on July 24 leaving John to take up his mantle as the saviour of mankind.

Bizarrely, this is possibly when the Schwarzenegger-esque design and voice of the T-800 model Terminators is established though this hilarious deleted scene may not be strictly canon (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines)

2005 (SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES TIMELINE) According to Camerons knowledge of the past/future, Sarah Connor dies of cancer in this particular branch of the Terminator timeline. (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles)

2007 (SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES TIMELINE) Kyle Reeses big brother, Derek, arrives from the future with a mission to eliminate the architects of Skynet, and joins forces with the Connors and Cameron as they fight a succession of Terminators who knew thered be so many? And that so many of them would be so bad at their jobs? (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles)

2009 (SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES TIMELINE) Derek Reese is killed by a Terminator. Creating the Symbiotic AI Workforce of the Future – MIT Sloan

An experiment in which humans and AI augmented each others strengths demonstrates how leaders can reimagine processes to create greater business value and prepare for the next wave of innovation.

This article is part of an MIT SMR initiative exploring how technology is reshaping the practice of management.

In the longstanding argument about whether AI will replace or complement human beings, the new watchword is symbiosis. Most recently, Elon Musk used the term to describe how a brain implant might merge human and digital intelligence. But you dont need to go full cyborg to achieve a mutually beneficial relationship between humans and AI. Instead, you can reimagine worker roles and business processes to enable people and AI to collaborate and achieve something greater together than they could apart.

Given the swell of fear and questions around AI from how many jobs will be lost to who will train these new systems the question of how to achieve human-machine collaboration has taken on new urgency. After all, these mutually beneficial relationships, focused on augmentation rather than displacement, stand to boost business value while lessening risk of people losing jobs.

In order to create a symbiotic AI workforce, organizations will need to use human-centered AI processes that motivate workers, retrain them in the context of their workflow, and shift the focus from automation to collaboration between humans and machines.

To test that proposition, our company's innovation hub in Dublin, Ireland, conducted an experiment designed to see how human workers might augment the work of an existing AI system and embrace their new roles as AI trainers.

Working with a team of design, data, and software experts, and medical coders, we designed, built, and tested a software interface that enabled the medical coders to move from simply using AI to improving it, taking on the tasks of an AI Trainer, a role that teaches AI how to perform and iterate.

Medical coders analyze a patients medical chart, taking complex information about diagnoses, treatments, medications, and more, which is translated into alphanumeric codes that are submitted to billing systems and health insurers. This coding is critical not only for billing and reimbursement but also for patient care and epidemiological studies.

At the location where the experiment took place, an AI system had recently been put in place to assist medical coders in examining patient charts. Previously, medical coders read through charts and highlighted relevant information with a pen. AI took some of the heavy lifting out of this process by scanning the charts and finding information about drug treatments to support insurance payments.

We saw the opportunity for the medical coders, who are registered nurses, to further apply their expertise by training the AI system so it could more accurately validate genuine links between medical conditions and treatments. The duty of updating the AI links had until then fallen to a data scientist, who would look for patterns in the manual inputs from the medical coder experts and update the knowledge database accordingly. In the experiment, however, a new and simple-to-use interface allowed the coders to apply their medical expertise (and some basic statistical concepts) to update and validate the links in the AI database.

The resulting symbiotic system enabled the humans and the AI to each work to their strengths. With AI thriving at repetitive, straightforward tasks at high volume and accuracy, the coders were allowed to focus their skills and attention on the more complex cases that require domain expertise, decision-making, and critical analysis.

As their understanding of AI grew, the coders were able to make coding decisions that were beyond the scope of a non-medically trained data scientist. Achieving better outcomes than either the coders or AI system could independently, this workflow not only generates more value in the short term but also holds promise for longer-term improvements in patient care, based in part on the complex connections that coders make.

Though small in scale, the experiment has big implications for leaders, workers, data scientists, and managers seeking to shape the AI systems and jobs of the future. Turning workers who are merely consumers of AI into producers of AI results in processes that produce outputs of ever-increasing value.

To create these exponentially more valuable symbiotic systems, organizations should keep in mind these basic principles that emerged from our experiment:

Challenge the assumption that AI is always superior to humans. Leaders as well as workers often uncritically accept that assumption. In our experiment, the medical coders initially thought that human colleagues were making errors that were in fact attributable to AI. But as they continued to work with AI and understand its power and limitations, they came to recognize the source of the errors and how to address them. Rather than supplanting human skills, such collaborative systems can increase the value of those skills and improve the performance of AI.

Be open and transparent with workers about your plans for AI and its impact on their future. As we move to a more AI-enabled workforce, not everyone will welcome changes in their roles, skills, and responsibilities especially when their livelihood is at stake. Workers are much more likely to embrace symbiotic systems than stand-alone AI designed to supplant people. When developing symbiotic systems, help workers who are not familiar with AI to develop a positive relationship with it. In our experiment, medical coders often referred to the AI they were training as a child to whom they were teaching new things.

Harness the intrinsic motivations of workers. The symbiotic medical coding system was designed to draw on the nurses desire to apply their medical knowledge. As a result, they felt committed to their new roles, in control of their work, and masterful at it. After working as trainers with the system, eight of the nine medical coders felt more positive about working with AI on a daily basis, and two-thirds felt positive about future job opportunities. Overall, they were motivated both to learn new technical skills and to further enhance their medical knowledge, which points to potential benefits for AI-enabled businesses.

Invest in people. When we think of investing in AI, we tend to think of technology first. Thats important, but people will drive the value for your business. Investing in your employees so they can build AI relationships into their roles is a long-term strategy that can unlock previously untapped expertise and value in your workforce.

For example, AI trainers are one of three new categories of AI-driven business and technology jobs, but many large companies are outsourcing the role. By contrast, our experiment enabled existing employees to apply their skills in a new way to train AI without the need for outsourcing. Further, technical re-skilling was not a prerequisite of working with the new system. In fact, with the right design, AI can be positioned as an easy-to-use tool that enables employees to do their job better.

Focus on function, not sophistication. Successful symbiotic systems will put simplicity before sophistication and value transparency and ease of use over complexity. Data scientists and designers will need to work together closely to create human-centric, symbiotic AI systems that enable human experts, like the nurses in our experiment, to train and continuously improve the systems without extensive training themselves. Meanwhile, data scientists a scarce resource likely to grow scarcer can use their time and talents to identify additional business opportunities in an organizations processes rather than operating and maintaining existing AI systems.

Cocreate and experiment. Once you have identified the process or workflow where people and AI can work symbiotically, make sure all stakeholders work and experiment together from the start. Have designers and data experts collaborate as early as possible to ensure a useful and usable system. Engage users and cocreate with them to make sure their needs and motivations are heard and incorporated into design decisions. Assess how people use the system and measure not just productivity but also the qualitative aspects of the experience. Gather feedback from users; and if you see burnout, boredom, or dislike arising, then react and redesign as needed.

Relentless automation that bypasses human input is proving to be a short-term and unsatisfactory application of AI. At the operational level, an exclusive focus on automation leads to inflexible, brittle business processes. Worse, leaving people out of the loop forgoes a rich source of added value and squanders the expert knowledge the organization maintains. Worst of all, it cedes the future to competitors who choose to build symbiotic systems in which humans and machines continually improve each others performance.

To build such systems, organizations need to take the long view. With AI washing over virtually every industry these days, leaders are understandably eager to catch the wave in the short term. But they need to ask themselves how to position their workforce to harness the waves to come. That means thinking about and investing in roles and responsibilities that are three to five years away.

By taking this long view, coupled with a willingness to experiment, managers can make space for creativity, test for stakeholder buy-in, and design processes and jobs for maximum collaborative intelligence. As AI and humans get smarter by working together, the system grows organically in the hands of those who work with it most closely. By embracing symbiotic processes, the organization fulfills its ethical obligation to its most valuable asset its people.
