It goes without saying that media are by far the most important vehicle for the transference of information to the public. No wonder that the freedom and independence of the press are important characteristics of democracy in any given country. In its modern sense, this important tool first came into being some five centuries ago. The world #39;s first modern newspaper was a German-language publication printed from 1605 onwards in Strasbourg, Germany. Yet, Ancient Rome was the birthplace of the printed press in its more traditional sense. Acta Diurna was a government announcement bulletin carved in metal or stone and posted in public places in Ancient Rome. On October 28, 2012, Iran #39;s 19th International Exhibition of the Press, News Agencies, and Information Websites was inaugurated in Tehran. The seven-day event was held at the Imam Khomeini Grand Prayer Grounds. The motto of the exhibition was "Media, Honest Words, Just Outlook." The exhibition hosts a wide variety of printed as well as electronic press, both Iranian and international. Thus, it provides an opportunity for the visitors to get familiarized with the field. They can closely see the qualitative and quantitative growth in the industry as showcased in the exhibition.
