Special Report: Finding Freedom

Town of Freedom, Wis.(WFRV) - The first person to settle in what is now the Town of Freedom was James Andrew Jackson in 1830.

The details surrounding Jackson are very limited.

Not a lot was written down back then and no pictures exist. But there are records we found at the Freedom Area Historical Society.

Freedom, Wisconsin is a small two flashing light town. Ricos family restaurant is the place to eat And Exquisite Hair Designs the only salon.

"Neighbors talk to neighbors. I talk to my neighbors. Neighbors get together for cookouts," said Tim Maass, Town of Freedom Chairperson. "It's a very wonderful safe small place to live in," said Samantha Schuh, Freedom resident.

But how did the town got it's name?

"I'm thinking because of freedom it has to do with like the freedom bell? I don't know," guessed Debra Schuh, Exquisite Hair Designs Owner.

"I have no idea," said Crystal Van De Hey, Freedom resident. "For all the men and women who fought for us 48 " guessed Stuart Hietpas, a Freedom resident.

"It was from a resident who came here and he wanted to name it freedom because thats the only time he felt free," said Samantha Schuh, a Freedom resident.

It all has to do with a 9 acre plot of land.
