That's Freedom is no Black Caviar but legendary trainer Frank Cleary will push on towards the Queanbeyan Cup after his gutsy all-the-way victory in the benchmark 60 handicap (1460 metres) at the course on Monday.

It was the first of three Monday public holiday meetings Queanbeyan will hold this season, with the Queanbeyan Cup switching to a Saturday on November 29 in an attempt to boost the club's profitability by racing on the biggest betting day of the week.

Traditionally the cup has been held on a Sunday.

Cleary doesn't like the move, but said he was "too busy picking up horse s---" to get involved in club politics. But he hopes he can secure a start in the cup with That's Freedom, who was previously trained in Melbourne by Peter Moody.

That's Freedom, ridden by Mathew Cahill, scored a dominant all-the-way win, holdingoff a late run from Chosen Time to score by a neck, with Hollywood Nel a half-neck further back in third.

Cleary also saluted with Punton Sunny in the benchmark 55 handicap (875 metres).

"Peter Moody had [That's Freedom] originally and he didn't have much of an opinion of him ... but he's probably used to Black Caviar," he said.

"This horse wouldn't measure up to her, but in the owners' eyes he's doing the same job."
