Brace for more assaults on freedom, says MP

Ariff Sabri calls on Malaysians to make Muhyiddin's fear a reality.

KUALA LUMPUR: Raub MP Mohd Ariff Sabri Abdul Aziz has raised the fear of a further erosion of democratic freedoms in Malaysia, saying Umno is in a state of panic and will resort to draconian laws to keep itself in power.

Its easy to detect the dictatorial tendencies during the 2014 Umno general assembly, Ariff says in his latest blog entry. The belligerent and bellicose talk that emanated from the assembly will be used as an expression of the will of the people, thereby giving Umno the reason to apply draconian laws on citizens.

Referring to Umno Deputy President Muhyiddin Yassins statement that Barisan Nasional will lose Putrajaya if there is a 2% vote swing to the opposition, he says Umno is aware that new voters in the next general election will reject it.

Ariff calls on voters to make Muhyidins fear a reality.

He is confident that voters from Generation Y wont vote Umno. This is not only because the young is by nature adventurous and sometimes rebellious, but also because they have acquired a higher level of social consciousness. This is caused in part by the explosion of information via the Internet and also the result of personal education.

The higher level of social consciousness has produced one profound realization and revelation; the younger generation is now more conscious that no one community or race in Malaysia can fight for its rights in isolation.

Instead, there is now a realization that any one communitys fight for rights must be part of a larger universal right belonging to the individual and the citizens of this country.

Ariff condemns Umno as a menace to individual freedom, which he defines as the freedom of coercion from others.

By individual freedom we dont mean the freedom to do anything as we please thats a disingenuous way to disarm our arguments offered by Umno couch potatoes and feeble minded drones.
