2020 heralds the beginning of a new decade dominated by innovative business models for the utility industry as the energy landscape experiences profound transformation. The demand for a smarter grid is increasing driven by distributed generation, improved reliability, increased resilience to outages and grid analytics.

The conventional electric grid was designed to manage the flow of power from large generators on the transmission network down to customers on the distribution network.
