Jim Jordan Slammed for His Tweet on the Virtues of ‘Real America’ – Newsweek

Ohio Republican Representative Jim Jordan was ripped online Monday after he shared his view of "Real America."

"In Real America, you work hard, pay your bills, and provide for your family," Jordan wrote in a tweet. "Isn't that how it should be?"

Shortly after Jordan's tweet, a number of social media users responded, with many critical of his remark, prompting the phrase "Real America," to trend on Twitter. Jordan's tweet comes shortly after some Republican lawmakers criticized the White House for the student loan forgiveness plan.

Jordan's Democratic challenger for his House seat, Tamie Wilson, responded to the Republican, saying, "In Real America, people don't get paid $174,000 a year in taxpayer money to pass ZERO legislation and spread lies on Fox News and Twitter every, single day."

In a statement sent to Newsweek, Wilson continued her criticism of Jordan, saying, "The people sent him to Washington to look out for them and their best interests, but he doesn't do anything for the people in Ohio. Actually he does, he votes against Ohio every chance he gets. He voted against capping the gas hike, which would have helped people, especially farmers, in his district. He voted against the CHIPS ACT which is set to bring 10k jobs and $20 billion to Ohio! Who does that? But, he has no problem with his Congressional colleagues taking PPP money."

California Democratic Representative Ted Lieu also responded to Jordan's tweet: "Dear @Jim_Jordan: My constituents in Real America work hard, pay their bills and provide for their families just like your constituents."

Lieu continued, "But there's one big difference: we don't force government mandated pregnancies on women and teens who are raped. Isn't that how it should be?"

Twitter user Ty-22 wrote, "In Real America, you inform authorities about students' abuse, don't incite insurrection, plot a coup, ask for pardon and don't lie to Americans everyday as a lawmaker. Isn't that how it should be?"

Twitter user Daniel T. Ho wrote, "You've been in Congress for 15 yrs & haven't sponsored a bill that's become law. Maybe you should do your job before telling us what Real America wants."

On the other hand, Twitter user @Wemophil showed support for Jordan, saying, "That is how it was before Biden."

This is not the first time Jordan has tweeted about "Real America," as he posted a similar response this month following the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act.

"Real America wants affordable gas and groceries," Jordan tweeted August 8. "Senate Democrats just gave them higher taxes and 87,000 IRS agents."

Jordan's tweet was met with criticism, such as one response from Twitter user Sonic Death Markey, who wrote, "Real America just raided Mar-a-Lago, Jim ... with real FBI agents ... and a real search warrant ... searching for real missing documents. Have fun with that information. - Love, The Real America."

In June, Jordan once again made a similar remark on Twitter while discussing the committee investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, saying that "Real America doesn't care about the January 6 Committee."

Newsweek has reached out to Jordan's office for further comment.
