Level Plains, Ala. (WDHN)Recently appointed Level Plains Police Chief Johnny Boy Summers and his department helped makeChristmas for children, who normally would not receive a toy under the tree.

They visited one of the citys largest mobile home parks to hand out toys to the kids.For nearly a month, Level Plains Police along with Ft. Rucker civilian union members of the Local Lodge 2003The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers held a toy collection.Since taking over as chief earlier this fall, Chief Johnny Boy Summers mission is community policingletting residents know the police are here to help.

Chief Johnny Boy Summers sayswere here at Holiday Village. This is a high-volume crime area and we wanted to give back instead of taking it away. A situation where a lot of these kids wouldnt have Christmas if wasnt for us giving back to thecommunity.

Chief Summers and his officers were joined by the union members from Ft. Ruckerto provide a gift for kids that normally wouldnt receive a gift under the tree.

Anthony Holton is President of the union Local Lodge 2003. He saysYou know with the covid and everything, times have been tough. Level Plains wanted to know if we wanted topartner up and everything and man it was overwhelming. Everyone wanted to be part of this.

Chief Summers says the Christmas toy giveaway was such a success, he plans to make it bigger and bettereven next year.
