LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - Liberty University has broken ground for a medical school. The groundbreaking ceremony Friday was near the Lynchburg Regional Airport. The school could open as early as next year. The News & Advance (http://bit.ly/Q27TDs) reports it will be partially financed by a grant from the Virginia Tobacco Commission. Liberty will match it. The school will train doctors of osteopathic medicine, nurse practitioners and physicians' assistants. The school will also offer other associate's degrees in the medical field. Liberty was founded by the late Moral Majority leader Jerry Falwell.
