Fijian singers and dancers will perform at the United Nations Headquarters in New York during the Ocean Conference from June 5 to 9.

The United Nations invited artists from the University of the South Pacifics Oceania Dance Theatre and Pasifika Voices to perform at the high-level Ocean Conference which is co-hosted by Fiji and Sweden.

Four world class artists from the Oceania Centre for Arts Culture and Pacific Studies at USP Katalina Fotofili and Ratulevu Tora from the Oceania Dance Theatre and Paulini Bautani and Ratu Ilaitia Baleinaivalu from Pasifika Voices will perform dances and songs representing all of Oceania.

The plan is also for the Oceania Centres, Artistic Director Peter Rockford Espiritu and Head of Performing Arts Igelese Ete to travel with the artists.

At present the directors are still looking for support to underwrite their travel and basic needs expenses to ensure that the group has the best support possible for the group to be set up for success.

And anyone who has the resources to help them get to New York, or any level of support would be greatly appreciated by the talented team.

The two can be contacted on:

Peter Rockford Espiritu Artistic Director Mobile (679) 9069 017

Igelese Ete Head of Performing Arts Mobile (679) 8653 589

Ms Bautani, a soft spoken and very talented singer, yesterday said she was honoured and humbled to be able to perform at the UN Ocean Conference.

The choir decided that I would be most deserving for this opportunity and I am really thankful to them for the support the entire choir has provided.

This has been a humbling opportunity. I am excited yet nervous at the same time.

The invitation has come from the Chair of the United Nations Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS) group, Marlene Moses, Ambassador of Nauru, to perform at the PSIDS event at the Ocean Conference.

With funding from Germany and Canada, the PSIDS group have taken this opportunity to showcase the performing arts of Fiji and Oceania for a global audience.

The team will perform at a PSIDs reception held at the United Nations headquarters on June 6, which will be attended by the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antnio Guterres and many heads of state.

While in New York, the Oceania Centre artists will also perform at another reception hosted by Germany on June 5, and at a special event hosted on June 7 by the University of Bergen in co-operation with the USP and Norways United Nations Mission.

About: The Pasifika Voices Ensemble is an artist in residency program run by the Oceania Centre for Arts Culture and Pacific Studies at the University of the South Pacifics Facility of Arts Law and Education.

The Ensemble is a collection of 12-18 members of the renowned Pasifika Voices Choir, formally known as the Malaga Singers.

The Choir was established and led by the current director Igelese Ete in 2007 after the successful season of his original Pacific Musical Production Malaga The Journey.

The Oceania Dance Theatre is the professional dance company of the University of the South Pacific based at the Laucala campus.

Today the company consists of 20 dancers whose training commitment is five days a week, focusing on dance technique, Pilates-based mat work, terminology, flexibility and cross genre dance styles based on Ballet, Modern/Contemporary, Aerial Silk and Straps, Bollywood and traditional Oceania, i.e. Hula and meke. ODT also uses multi-cultural fusion that is reflective of the rich ethnic mix prevalent in Fiji.

An emphasis is given to culture and tradition as a strong foundation to build upon.

Entertainment is also an important element in ODTs varied and large repertoire for we are internationally know. The Artistic Director Peter Rockford Espiritu comes from Honolulu, Hawaii and brings to the table a substantial amount of professional dance experience.

His training as a dancer includes scholarships to study and perform at the American Dance Festival at Duke University, the Aspen Dance Festival, Colorado Dance Festival and at the prestigious School of American Ballet in New York City.

He is still the Artistic Director of Tau Dance Theatre for the past 20 years in Hawaii, has toured the world and choreographed and trained dancers in Japan for the past 15 years.

Inside the Seychelles’ New Six Senses Zil Payson Island Resort – Robb Report

Theres something of a Jurassic Park feel to Flicit, the Seychelles island thats home to the new Six Senses Zil Pasyon. Jagged, giant granite boulders loom over the verdant, hilly island, and play a direct role in some of the activities available at the resort: To get to the pavilions of Six Senses trademark spa, you walk a rope bridge strung between boulders. Guests can also scale another boulderthe islands highest pointfor the perfect perch on which to watch the sunset with a bottle of Champagne.

The 30 villas, all with infinity-edge pools and sea views, are spaciousstarting at 1,880-square feetand designed with local stone, wood, and contemporary furniture swathed in fabrics bearing the same vibrant turquoise shade as the Indian Ocean outside. Each accommodation also comes with a butlercalled a GEM, or Guest Experience Makerwho can arrange activities such as hiking the trails on the islands 652 acres, cycling the nearby island of La Digue, or golfing on neighboring Praslin island.

Of course, most guests are content to stay right where they are, splitting their time between the spa and the sea. The former features the Six Senses Integrated Wellness Program, offering five journeys that use local and African treatments. The latter, is home to a wonderland of coral formations, a panoply of multicolored fish, and a trio of powdery beaches. A 5-minute boat ride to nearby Coco Island brings the additional experience of swimming with turtles.

At night, culinary creations take center stage, spotlighting both local cuisine and international specialties such as just-caught tuna wrapped around sugarcane stalks, octopus-and-soft-shell-crab curry, and grilled Wagyu beef. But the most satisfying meal comes early in the day, with a breakfast of coconut pancakes or scrambled eggs and crab, enjoyed on your private villa deck overlooking the sea. (sixsenses.com)

Making the most of new opportunities: Seychelles attends inaugural … – eTurboNews

Seychelles was among tourism destinations that availed of the opportunity to be showcased at a new travel trade show focusing exclusively on the Chinese market.

The Seychelles Tourism Board and trade partners participated in the first-ever ITB China, held at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition Convention Center from 10th to 12th May 2017.

The event provided three days of perfect networking opportunities for handpicked Chinese buyers and international travel industry partners. Around 600 companies from some 70 countries and regions conducted business-to-business (B2B) meetings at the exhibition space, which had been booked well in advance.

The Seychelles delegation was led by the Chief Executive of the island nations Tourism Board Mrs. Sherin Francis, who foresees potential business opportunities between the Seychelles and Chinese trade, following the various meetings conducted.

I am hopeful that this will bring more of the experienced Chinese travelers from China to our shores, said Mrs Francis.

The Seychelles Tourism Board was also represented by the Director for China, Mr Jean-Luc Lai-Lam, Senior Marketing Executive for China, Ms Stephanie Lablache, as well as the Senior Marketing Executive for South and North China, Mr Sen Yu and Mr Li Huanhuan, respectively. Travel trade partners at the ITB China included Masons Travel, Creole Travel Services, 7South and Constance Hotels & Resorts.

The Seychelles participation at the first-ever ITB China, followed the launch of the destinations 2017 strategy for the Asian nation, with emphasis being placed on the high end segment of the Chinese tourism market.

China has been described as the main driving force for growth in international tourism. According to the World Tourism Organization, UNWTO, the number of outbound travelers from China recorded a 6 percent increase in 2016, as it rose to 135 million. This helped consolidate Chinas position as the number one source market in the world since 2012.

ITB China is in fact an offshoot of ITB Berlin, one of the worlds largest international tourism trade fair and its the second such travel show which Messe Berlin organizes on the Asian continent after ITB Asia, held in Singapore over the last 8 years.

Commenting on the decision to target the worlds largest travel market, the Chief Executive of Messe Berlin, Dr Christian Goke said: At Messe Berlin we are proud that, for some of our exhibitors, this is their first travel exposure in China.Like Messe Berlin, they too are highly optimistic about the new partnership that can be made during ITB China, an event dedicated to establishing new travel trade business relations between China and the world. At the same time, we aim to bring the best of our expertise and contacts from ITB Berlin & ITB Asia to serve the Chinese travel market.

New Caribbean Climate Hub Video Teaches Kids About Agriculture – USDA.gov (press release) (blog)

Posted by William A. Gould, US Forest Service/USDA Caribbean Climate Hub and Isabel K. Pars, US Forest Service/Caribbean Climate Hub Coordinator in Climate Food and Nutrition

Jun 06, 2017

Sr. Sapo is a very popular figure among children in Puerto Rico and Latin America and he has a new healthy hobby, agriculture! The USDA Caribbean Climate Hub and the musical group Atencin Atencin Inc. partnered to produce a video focusing on how food is grown and its relationship with nature.

The USDA Caribbean Climate Hub explains they want to promote agriculture and help children better understand how the food we eat is connected to sunshine, rain and the soil.

The video illustrates how food production is influenced by the sun and the rain through the experiences of Sr. Sapo in his home garden. Sr. Sapolearns to prepare the soil and succeeds at harvesting fruits and vegetables after his garden was affected by a drought followed by severe flooding.

Where do potatoes, carrots, and tomatoes come from? Today, few children understand where food comes from so we thought it was important to collaborate with the Caribbean Hub to produce this video, which shows the benefits of agriculture and its relationship with nature to create environmental awareness in children, Vctor Rivera, President of Atencin Atencin Inc. said.

The Caribbean Hub also developed a coloring book based on the video, which the Hub uses as an educational tool when participating in agricultural and environmental events throughout the Island. Both are available in Spanish and with English subtitles in the Kids' Corner on the Caribbean Hub website.

Located in Ro Piedras, Puerto Rico, the USDA Caribbean Climate Hub is one of ten Regional Hubs nationwide that delivers science based knowledge and practical information to farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners to help them adapt to climate and weather variability.

The video and the coloring book are available in Spanish and with English subtitles in the Kids Corner on the Caribbean Hubs website.

Caribbean tourism body urges environmental action – CNS Business

(CNS Business): The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), which represents one of the worlds most vulnerable regions to the escalating effects of climate change, is urging regional nations to support and adopt the Paris Agreement on climate change. In the wake of the US presidents decision pull out of the global agreement that aims to reduce mans negative impact on the environment, CHTA urged countries, businesses and residents in the Caribbean to do their part to combat these impacts and keep the region safe, secure and viable, given its front line position.

In a recent scientific report, Caribbean Marine Climate Change, scientists warned of the regions particular vulnerabilities and said that the negativeimpacts on reefs and rising sea levels in our region are coming sooner that people realise.

In a press release following the US withdrawal from the Paris accord, the CHTA stated, The socio-economic consequences from rising sea levels and temperatures, increasingly violent storms and severe droughts, oil spills, mismanagement of waste, and coral bleaching are having mounting consequences, and left unchecked threaten the very viability of the regions economies and societies, and the health and welfare of Caribbean people.

Tourism-related enterprises are increasingly adopting policies and practices aimed at preserving, protecting and enhancing the environment, not least because it is important to the Caribbeans own self-interests with millions of visitors enjoying the incredible natural beauty the region offers, CHTA noted, as it urged people to stay committed to reducing carbon footprints.

Popular Caribbean sandwich gives a taste of Jamaica – WatertownDailyTimes.com

'); //-->

Call it a taco, wrap or roti, these sandwiches are very popular. I loved the roti made by chef Eric Do from the Intercontinental Hotel at Doral in Miami. His Caribbean Roti is filled with curried chicken, potatoes and chickpeas.

He says this Indian-style dish has become a staple part of the Jamaican diet. Ive adapted his recipe for a quick taste of Jamaica.

Roti is a flatbread made from stoneground whole meal flour. In the Caribbean roti may refer to both the flat-bread and the filled wrap served as street food. For this quick version, I used a thin whole wheat wrap found in most supermarkets.

Open a bag of washed, ready-to-eat salad to complete the meal.

Helpful hint: Curry powder sold in supermarkets is a blend of about 15 herbs, spices and seeds. It loses its flavor quickly. If older than six months, buy a new one.

CARIBBEAN ROTI

pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs

pound red or yellow potatoes (about 1-cup cubes)

2 teaspoons canola oil

1 cup diced onion

1 teaspoon minced garlic

2 tablespoons curry powder

1 tablespoon paprika

cup canned, rinsed and drained low-sodium chickpeas

1 cups low-sodium chicken broth

Salt

2 whole wheat thin wraps

Remove visible fat from the chicken and cut into - to -inch cubes. Wash potatoes, do not peel and cut into pieces about the same size as the chicken. Set aside. Heat oil a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat and add the chicken, onion and garlic. Saute 3 minutes, stirring to help chicken brown on all sides. Add the curry powder and paprika. Stir to make sure all ingredients are coated with the spices. Add the chickpeas, potatoes and chicken broth. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover with a lid and simmer 15 minutes. Add a little water if the skillet becomes dry. Add salt to taste. Place the two wraps on a counter and fill with the chicken mixture. Roll up and serve with the salad. Or, serve the filling and wraps separately and each person can fill his own.

Yield 2 servings.

The Shrine Brings African and Caribbean Beats Downtown – Miami New Times

Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 10:26 a.m.

This Saturday, June 10, one of Miamis favorite Caribbean parties will return to the 305.

The Shrine, whichDJ Momabegan as Everyday People in New York, is back south with eclectic sounds of Africa and the diaspora. It was conceptualized by The KGN, a local event collective and Dj Moma of Everyday People NYC.

Afrobeats, kompa, soca, reggae, soul, and funk are on the playlist, and Evelyn Onyejuruwa of Ankara Miami, South Floridas first and largest runway production, will present both upcoming and distinguished African designers and will offer African cultural trends for sale.

The event began as an homage to Fela Kuti, one of Africas most beloved multi-instrumentalists. Kuti would premiere and experiment with music at a venue he called the Shrine.

Jason Panton, one of the party's organizers, says this version of the Shrine has been a staple in the city because it has filled a void in the African community. The events began about a year ago and have brought together a slew of people from all communities.

The feel of most Caribbean music, from reggae, reggaeton, salsa, merengue to soca and dancehall, has always contained the soul of our African ancestors and mixed in part with influences along the way, Panton says. I figured what better time than now to bring Jamaicans, Haitians, Nigerians, Trinidadians, Ghanaians, Colombians, Bajans, and Ethiopians in one space in celebration of what we have in common? Good vibes and bass lines.

Essentially, the Shrine has been unifying the African and Caribbean diaspora through music. Panton's team, the KGN, is made up of DJ Silent Addy Simone Russell and DJ Moma. They have all noticed the void they're filling.

Panton agrees there has been a rising interest in Afrobeat in South Florida. For years, it has been growing in populated areas where Africans have immigrated. It is very similar to the sounds of the Caribbean.

The event has also continually grown, and the Shrine was even hosted at last years Afropunk Fest in Brooklyn. Panton says the team's goal is to expand the brand and give recognition to the South Florida African community.

The long-term vision is to become a destination event for South Florida and take the brand to other cities. It is an opportunity to blend music and culture courtesy of our talented DJs' great sound. We hope to begin to bring performers and organically grow the brand to a prominent Afro-Caribbean event globally.

The Shrine 9 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at 1306 N. Miami Ave., Miami. Tickets cost $10.Ages 21 and up. Visit @TheShrineMiami on Instagram.

Caribbean Heritage Festival Turns 4 – New Haven Independent

Rain and wind didnt stop the annual celebration of Caribbean heritage in New Haven.

For the fourth year, immigrants representing more than 25 island nations of the Caribbean gathered at DeGale Field in Goffe Street Park to celebrate their history and culture through music, dance, and food at their Caribbean American Heritage Festival.

It has been tremendous trying to put this together, Karaine Kay Smith-Holness said Sunday. And is officially National Carribean-American Heritage month. And four years ago we actually had a conversation with Mayor Harp and she said, why dont we do something about it. And this is what weve done.

The Caribbean nationals have been in New Haven since the 1600s and it started with St. Kitts and Nevis, Smith-Holness told attendees. And if you ever know anything about St. LukesSt. Lukes is the first Caribbean church here in New Haven. So what we are trying to do as an organization is to keep our culture alive while we are here in the City of New Haven.

Students from the Hamden Academy of Dance showed off their moves while the wind and rain whipped their costumes, and author Vangella Hazle Buchanan, a professor from Central Connecticut State University, read excerpts from her book.

Smith-Holness, already thinking about next June, told attendees to bring a friend, tell a friend and a friend and a friend.

For the fourth year, immigrants representing more than 25 island nations of the Caribbean gathered at DeGale Field in Goffe Street Park to celebrate their history and culture through music, dance, and food at their Caribbean Heritage Festival.

I wonder how many of these people in these pictures Identify with African-Caribbeans or British African-Caribbean people?

One of my favorite events! Kay and her crew pulled off this event with great success! Rain or shine! I love this Caribbean meet-up! They embrace their African roots, celebrate their British and Canadian roots and happily share it all with us New Haveners! When you attend the festival you see the celebration of the strong and proud diaspora connection of the islands. It is a beautiful thing to see! Everyone should come out and take in this rich celebration of culture and history!

What does the title Curries Goat Vanishes mean?

[Ed: That that delicacy sold out fast at the event.]

The curried goat would have disappeared even quicker if I was there, which I plan to be next year.

Well said, Babz Rawls Ivy.

Bahamas Facing Multi-Billion Debt Rise Every Five Years – Bahamas Tribune

ByNEIL HARTNELL

Tribune Business Editor

nhartnell@tribunemedia.net

SUCCESSIVE governments will continue adding $1 billion-plus to the national debt every five years without structural reforms and greater GDP growth, an ex-finance minister saying: I saw this coming 13 years ago.

James Smith, also a former Central Bank governor, told Tribune Business he was struck by the similarities in tone between the 2017-2018 Budget presentation and the first one produced by the former Christie administration in 2012-2013.

Both blamed the former government for leaving the Bahamas in a fiscal crisis, and with unpaid bills totalling nine-figure sums, which Mr Smith argued was evidence of structural deficiencies and the absence of economic growth - not mismanagement.

The speech was almost of the tone you would have heard in 2012, Mr Smith said of last weeks 2017-2018 Budget presentation. The incoming government in 2012, I think, said something to the effect of: Look at what they left us with; all these unpaid bills.

The Christie administration, upon taking office, alleged that its FNM predecessor had left it with $97 million in spending commitments that had to be met, including some $63.14 million in unpaid cheques and wire transfers.

And in unveiling the 2012-2013 Budget, Perry Christie said: Our room for manoeuvre is, at least in the short-term, severely constrained by the dire fiscal situation that has been handed to us by the previous administration.

The Governments deficit and debt levels at this time are much worse than we had anticipated. We have been left with sizeable, ongoing capital expenditurecommitments and a legacy of contracts entered into in the final days of the former administration.

And: We also face the carry-over into 2012-2013 of certain recurrent expenditure commitments of the previous administration in respect of the promotions exercise, back pay, salary increases and the payment of insurance benefits.

Fast forward five years, and the similarity in rhetoric and content with the 2017-2018 Budget is striking. K P Turnquest, minister of finance, last week told the House of Assembly that the fiscal situation was far bleaker than we could ever have imagined. Our predecessors have literally left us with a cupboard that is bare.

He blamed the previous administration for burdening the new government with $300 million-plus in accounts payables as result of a backlog in spending and payments commitments, which required the Minnis administration to borrow some $400 million to cover the hole.

The similarities between the two Budget presentations were not confined to the rhetoric either, as both blamed the previous administration for saddling them with deficits of around $500 million when they left office.

Mr Smith told Tribune Business this was evidence of a multi-billion dollar debt pattern that the Bahamas was doomed to repeat every five years without fundamental Budgetary and economic reform, disclosing that fears of huge annual deficits had prompted him to initiate studies on VAT 13 years ago.

It tells me, if you look at the historical data, that the Government borrows about 20 per cent of its revenue for capital or otherwise, he explained to Tribune Business, and the deficit on the recurrent is around $100 million to $200 million.

So youre dealing with around $300-$400 million a year [in deficits]. Youre going to borrow more than $1 billion every single [political cycle]. Its got nothing to do with mismanagement; its the nature of the economy, and the important issue is unless we have economic growth, the ratio of debt-to-GDP - where GDP remains constant and the debt is going up more - starts climbing into a dangerous area.

It should be clear to everyone that our problem is an anemic economy, Mr Smith added. We have stagnant GDP levels, and a lot of stuff is baked into the Budget, like salaries, rents, goods and emoluments.

Thats not going to change much. The discretionary room for manoeuvre is too small to make a difference in the Budget. Unless we have substantial economic growth, everyone will be saying the same thing every five years.

Mr Smith said the Minnis administrations first Budget failed to properly lay out a strategy for reviving economic growth, instead concentrating on the $500 million deficit it had inherited from 2016-2017 and the need to borrow more than $722 million to cover two years worth of fiscal red ink.

Weve got to look at the macro economy and the growth rate, he told Tribune Business. Look at the last government and this government; you dont see much about how Im going to stimulate growth, and whether Im going to get local and foreign investment, or a combination of both.

The Bahamas enjoyed four consecutive years of zero or negative economic growth between 2013-2016, and the direct link between GDP expansion and revenues likely helps to explain why the Governments income failed to meet expectations.

Mr Smith, acknowledging that $756 million in net VAT revenues over the past two years had helped to slow the national debts growth rate, called on the Government to focus on increasing tourist spending given that the sector accounted for two-thirds of the Bahamian economy.

You make more things available for them to spend money on, he argued. Entertainment, goods and services. You cant change how many come in overnight, but you can increase spending by finding more for them to do.

Redirect efforts to stimulate your main industry in the short-term. I think weve just got to find ways to get a little bit more out of the tourism sector. Weve seen growth in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and others. The question is why are people flying over us to other destinations when we are just 40 minutes from Florida.

Mr Smith said economic diversification was a long-term goal, and disclosed that concerns over the Bahamas fiscal outlook prompted him to initiate VAT assessments when at the Ministry of Finance in 2004

I saw this coming, he told Tribune Business of the Bahamas debt and deficit crisis. You may recall I tried to introduce VAT in 2004. We knew that unless we expanded our revenue base from 17 per cent to 20 per cent we would be in trouble.

Mr Smith said he was given Cabinet approval to initiate VAT studies by the IMF and Crown Agents, but never received permission to implement it.

Once we took a look at it, we needed to have the revenues increase to 20 per cent or down the road we would really have an increase in the debt and deficit. We knew that 13 years ago, he revealed.

VAT was eventually introduced some 11 years and two administrations later, and Mr Smith agreed that the Bahamas fiscal rebalancing depended on combining tax reform with similar adjustments on the spending side and faster economic growth.

He added, though, that government spending was a larger ship to turn around, as civil service lay-offs would only switch costs from salaries to the social security budget. The threat posed by natural disasters, and the role government expenditure played in the wider Bahamian economy, also meant any reductions needed to be approached cautiously.

For Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, it was time for some R&R in private.

While they're no strangers to mansion life, they got to call a luxurious villa their home for the long weekend, equipped with a separate floor for their guests, West's childhood friend Don Crowley, his wife and their son, as well as a play area for the children and a private pool.

A source tells E! News that, "Kim rented out an island and had all of Kanye'sfriends come and their families. They rented 4 planes and everyone left in secrecy and there was a no social media rule so no one would find them."

"It was a fun weekend for the family," a separate insider told us. "Everyone hung out by the pool and the kids played on the beach making sand castles." While 3-year-old North Westspent a lot of time floating around on a pink flamingo raft in her favorite bathing suit, her little brother, 1-year-old Saint West, was busy crawling all over the place. Meanwhile, they had cases of Casamigos tequila flown in for the adults to sip on.

When they weren't by the pool, they were visiting the beach club via golf cart or enjoying a family lunch outside. However, per the insider, they were always flanked by security. "It was very important for them that it was a private weekend and they went out of their way to make that happen."

In the lap of luxury and privacy, the reality star was able to spend quality time with her children and husband. As for unwinding, a source said West got the chance to nap and Kim considered it one of the most relaxing vacations they've had in a while.

According to another insider, the trip doubled as bonding time for North, Saint and their family friend's son.

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill Don’t Just Have a Bahamas Home They Have an Entire Island – POPSUGAR

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill didn't want just any beach house they wanted a whole damn island, and it only took a modest nine years to build their picture-perfect getaway from the ground up.

Back in 2003, the couple arrived at the future site of their home on an island in the Bahamas, which was then only inhabited by a mere shack. When the duo bought the 20-acre property, they didn't exactly realize how much effort their home-building project would entail. "We set out to build a house. We had no idea we had to build everything else," Hill told Architectural Digest in a recent feature. "We basically had to build a little town."

To craft their dreamy slice of paradise, Hill and McGraw teamed up with architects Bobby McAlpine and Greg Tankersley of McAlpine, the same design firm that helped with their homes in Tennessee. They wanted to "feel connected to the outside," Hill explained to Architectural Digest, especially when it comes to the ocean breeze. After laying down the property's infrastructure, construction workers got down to business to fulfill the designers' vision: something encapsulating the idea that "in paradise, you live in ways you can't live in civilization."

This vision came to fruition in the form of a sprawling compound with eight "pavilions," which are all connected by open-air passageways. As if the outside of the home wasn't enough of a sight to see, the inside may be even better. Interior designer Ray Booth crafted the perfect naturalistic decor that speaks for itself. "I think the beach has always represented, to the McGraws, a simplicity that their everyday life lacks," Booth said. "So this house needed to offer a real clarity and cleanliness in its aesthetic. It's essentially a bleached-out white [throughout]; where there is color, it's pulled directly out of those beautiful Bahamian waters."

Simply put, their Bahamian getaway is straight out of a dream. Read on for a peek at their tropical digs, and then head on over to ArchitecturalDigest.com for the full story.

Certainly these adventures do not ensue unaccompanied by some education of how boating has helped to shape the identity of these islands. Each trip is lead by an au courant captain who gleefully shares such information.

Senior Manager, sales and marketing-Bahamas Tourist Office and host captain, Richard Treco has been leading the passage for more than 30 years. I like to give these folks a glimpse of the islands through my eyes. Im their captain and their guide. We have to make sure they have the most authentic experience we can provide, says Treco.

Bahamian Boating Flings have been successful for over 20 years and this year will be no exception. The Islands of The Bahamas have boasted an average of about 10-20 boats per fling, maxing out at times with more than 30 boats.

This summers schedule includes the following dates:

June 8 -11, Grand Bahama Island (Grand Lucayan)

June 15-18, Bimini (Bimini Big Game Club)

June 22-25, Bimini (Bimini Big Game Club)

July 6-16, Extended Fling (Eleuthera)

July 20-23, Bimini (Bimini Big Game Club)

July 27-30, Bimini (Bimini Big Game Club)

Registration has already begun and participants are encouraged to register now as spots are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis. For more details on registration fees, and other information, please visit http://www.Bahamas.com.

It is recommended that interested persons attend a Captains Meeting at the Bahia Mar Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Meetings are held on the Wednesday prior to each Fling and begin promptly at 6:30 pm.

What could be more captivating than this kind of opportunity to explore the islands in such an exceptional way? The open ocean, some experienced captains coupled with more curious novices, a few boats of course mixed in with some Bahamian sun, sand and sea make for the ultimate ocean road trip.
