Kambosos hopes to inspire fellow Aussies – The West Australian

Jubilant George Kambosos Jr is challenging Australia's other title aspirants to follow their dreams overseas as he savours his place in boxing immortality as an undisputed world champion.

Kambosos is the first Australian boxer in history to win three world-title belts in one fight after scoring a stunning upset win over previously unbeaten American Teofimo Lopez in New York.

The new unified lightweight world champion was rewarded for his unwavering dedication after more than four years without a fight in Australia.

Sacrificing precious family time with endless months training offshore in the Philippines with the great Manny Pacquiao and fighting in the US, UK, Greece and Malaysia, Kambosos is now the holder of the WBA, WBO and IBF straps.

"That's something these other guys in Australia who are making a bit of noise, they talk a big game and say they want to come over here but when it comes to booking that flight, they don't," Kambosos told AAP.

"So I don't understand how everyone wants to get behind them but they don't want to get overseas and chase it where it really happens, chase the big fish.

"It's a big difference when you're comfortable in your own zone and you need to leave your comfort zone and take the risk and achieve and get to the top and achieve what it is to become a world champion.

"They don't want to do it but Kambosos has done it and has been doing it for many years. We're here, we're fighting for the biggest thing Australia has ever seen.

"It's the pinnacle of the sport."

Blood streaming from a nasty cast above his left eye, Lopez claimed he'd been robbed despite being sent crashing to the canvas by Kambosos in the opening round - the first time since he professional debut five years ago the American had been floored.

"You're a hell of a fighter but I won the fight tonight. I want everyone to know that," Lopez protested.

"The referee raised my hand, I won tonight. I don't care what anybody said."

Not for the first time over the past week, Kambosos branded the vanquished champion "delusional".

"I won the fight fair and square. Take a look at your face. Take it like a champ, let's do it again in Australia," Kambosos said.

"Eighty-thousand fans in Australia, let's do it again."

After years of offshore toil, Kambosos won't be defending his titles anywhere but Australia and dedicated his victory to wife Rebecca, three young children and his late grandfather George.

"This is for my kids, my grandfather George Kambosos, who passed away two months away," he said.

"It's for my family, my wife, my grandfather. I know he's in the ring with me right now."

Probabilities of Dominican players to the Hall of Fame 2022 – Central Valley Business Journal

The Hall of Fame and Cooperstown Museum, has made official the ballot with each of the men among whom the next inductions to immortality will be chosen, in a ballot that has four Dominican players and two others from Venezuela as the Latino representation.

Of the Dominicans, outfielders Sammy Sosa and Manny Ramrez will have their tenth appearance on the ballot for the Hall of Fame (and last if they are not elected), while the next two representatives of Quisqueya la Bella are from Alex Rodrguez and David Ortiz, both at his first chance to immortality.

Rodrguez arrives with the tie of a full season suspension in 2014 after the use of doping, while another case related to steroids such as in 2009 reveals that he had used prohibited substances in 2003 before the league adapted policies against such cases against naturalness. of the game.

David Ortiz with everything ahead of him to be chosen, the breakdown would only be expected about developing most of his career as only an offensive player, although with the path made after Edgar Martnez today under the same conditions he rests in immortality.

Among Dominicans facing their last trip to the ballot, the rockiest road is made starting with Manny Ramrez who was suspended in 2009 and 2011 for steroid use, for a time of 50 and 100 games, respectively. While Sammy Sosa is accused without being proven of having used prohibited substances, who has in his favor that before 2003 there was no policy against this.

In addition to the aforementioned cork bat that was discovered, although the Dominican has the perfect slice. His position was always that it was a practice bat and the one that he intentionally used in an official game, although among other bats that were reviewed, no other trace was found that could look like a trap.

At least his offensive numbers leave David Ortiz as Hall of Fame, a 10-time All-Star player and 7-time Silver Bat bases. He has 2,472 career hits, including 541 home runs, 1,768 RBIs and a .286 / .380 / .552 offensive line.

He accumulated a total of 55.3 Wins Over Replacement (WAR) in his career, while a WAR7 as the representation of his best seven years in the league of 35.2, who for every 162 games averaged a WAR of 3.7 in his entire career in the pitch.

Possibilities: enter.

Statistics to enter has them all and one more chin, although his record for doping leaves everything to the discretion of the voters. Since 3 times MVP, 14 All-Star selections, 10 Silver Bats and 2 Gold Gloves. A career of 3,115 hits, 696 homers, 2,086 RBIs and an offensive slash line of .295 / .380 / .550.

With 1,272 games played at shortstop and 1,194 games at third base, his 117.5 lifetime WAR is the second-highest for a shortstop defender, as is his 64.3 WAR in his best seven seasons, while decorating such majesty. at 6.8 WAR for every 162 games played.

Possibility: criteria of the voters.

The Dominican watched most of his games with 1,037 from left field. Throughout his career he had 12 All-Star selections and 9 Silver Bats, connecting 2,574 hits, 555 home runs and a .312 / .411 / .585 offensive line.

His career WAR of 69.3 is 3.6 higher than the league average for players who have participated in the LF and finished in the Hall of Fame, while he had WAR in his best seven seasons of 39.9 and 4.9 WAR. on his average for every 162 games.

Possibility: criterion of the voter.

The native of San Pedro de Macoris among his award-winning career includes an award for MVP, 7 All-Star and 6-time Silver Bates. He had a career of 2,408 hits, including 609 home runs, having 1,667 RBIs and a .273 / .344 / .534 offensive line.

His total WAR of 58.6 ends up falling below the average for a Hall of Fame as RF (average of 72.1), equal to his WAR for every 162 games of 4.0 (5.1 of average), but his WAR in his best seven seasons of 43.8 is 1.3 out of the league average, as a result of how shocking it was in an era in history as the home run rivalry against Mark McGwire.

Possibility: criterion of the voter.

Fortune and abundance come to those who believe in them. This is especially true in India whose multilayered culture is imbued with expressive rituals and traditionsand food is not spared.

Food and symbolism play an important role not just in important celebrations, but also in day-to-day lives. In a new report tackling how superstition and religion affect daily life in India, analysts at SevenJackpots highlighted interesting rituals and traditions that influence individuals who like to pursue luck and prosperity.

Fresh fruits are not just altar gifts for the gods; theyre also considered a vehicle of positive energy. When placed on the dining table, fruits are said to attract positive energy and draw abundance into the home. Peaches are among the popular fruits for wealth and prosperity as it symbolizes immortality according to Chinese philosophy; this fruit is also associated with money and abundance, as well as good health and long life.

Red apples are popular in the north for attracting prosperity, while the south draws positive energy from pineapples and oranges for wealth and abundance. Pomegranates are also auspicious, especially for those seeking fertility.

Pieces of artworks or dcor items that depict fruits are also seen to attract positive energyjust look at the number of homes that have pictures, paintings or even decorative items of fruits in their dining areas. Now, its worth noting that although traditions and customs are often correlated to attracting a lucky streak especially among gamblers and casual entertainment games players, these rituals might not have a direct impact when playing ones favorite online roulette games. That said, the study still highlights the importance of how the active and proper pursuit of these customs ultimately lead to a positive mindset.

Devotion and superstition have withstood social evolution, digitization, and economic developments. They are not in conflict with education or modern lifestyles and are just as popular across Bharat as they are among desi communities living abroad, SevenJackpots industry researchers have found.

Attracting luck and prosperity goes beyond fruits, plants are very much involved too. The Vastu Shastra concept calls for integrating architecture with nature to bring abundance.

To create a Vastu-perfect home, consider adding the Money Tree (botanical name: Pachira aquatica) which is said to stimulate the flow of wealth in the house. Notice the trees five leaves in each steman auspicious number in feng shui.

Lotus (botanical name: Nelumbo nucifera) is also pious as the Goddess of Wealth Lakshmi sits atop of it. You may also want to keep basil plants (Ocimum tenuiflorum) at the porch of your home facing the north or east area for good health and wealth.

Theres also the lucky bamboo (Dracaena sanderiana), which is seen to bring abundance to its owner with its different number of stalks representing a unique blessing by feng shui.

The Ending of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Has Forever Puzzled and Fascinated Me – Gizmodo Australia

For years, I believed Indiana Jones was immortal. I saw Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade when it was first released in theatres and, since hed taken a drink from the holy grail before he rode off into the sunset, I thought Indiana Jones would live forever. It wasnt until years later that the explanation on how eternal life given by the grail was limited to the temple dawned on me. And I tell you all of this because its just one example of why Im still completely fascinated by the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

For anyone who maybe hasnt seen it in a few years, heres the set up. Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) and his father, Henry (Sean Connery), have spent the whole movie looking for the Holy Grail. Its the cup Jesus used at the last supper, which then caught his blood at his crucifixion, and is believed to grant eternal life to whoever drinks from it. Problem is, the Nazis are after it too, and when everyone arrives at the grails location, one of the Nazis (a fellow grail collector named Donovan, played by Julian Glover) shoots Henry, forcing Indy to retrieve the grail. To do so, hell have to face three challenges.

Of course Indy bests the challenges, the Nazis die, Dad is saved, and all is well. What happens in the meantime though, to this day, remains as weird and dense as any scene in the franchise. And look: I am, 100%, a mega fan of this movie. Everything Im about to say doesnt change that I love Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, full stop. And, normally, I hate the level of nitpicking Im about to do. Its just that anytime this movie is on, which is a lot in the last 30 plus years, I think about these things. I cant stop thinking about them. So it was time, finally, to see if I was the only one. My apologies Indy fans. Dont let any of what follows let you think any less of this movie which is amazing and I love it and Im sorry. But here we go

The first challenge is called The Breath of God. Its series of saw blades that you can only get by if you kneel. A penitent man, as Indy says. OK, we got that. So Indy knows to kneel, but how did Indy know he had to roll too? And I never quite understood what the shot of the rope on the wooden wheel was. For the longest time I thought it was the knight stopping the blades because it happens instantly. Of course, thats not true, its just Indy kind of blocking the blades, so Donovan and Elsa (Alison Doody), who accompany him on the trials, can get through. But even then its like, how did he know to do that so fast? Because its instant. Also, why is there even a rope there? Who resets it other times? Anyway, its a fun moment thats a bit odd but is by far the clearest of the challenges.

The second challenge is The Word of God. It requires a person to spell out the name of God, or rather the Latinization of Gods proper Hebrew name, Jehovah, one of seven in Judaism. And, humorously, were told that in Latin Jehovah begins with an I as Indy steps on the J revealing the deadly secret. The secret is, if you step on the wrong letter, you fall to your death. OK, got it. Director Steven Spielberg even puts in a shot meant to illustrate that the real letters have huge stone pillars below them to support the person while everything else is hollow. And yet, I have always had so many questions about this. Has no one ever made a mistake in this challenge before? Is that why all the letters are still there? And if someone was to die in this challenge, would someone replace the letters? When Indy falls and grabs hold, how does the letter hes holding onto not break as well? Its quite clear from the film that hes not holding onto a stone with a pillar under it. Then he gets up, starts spelling and his heel hits another block, it doesnt fully break. I know thats because its a practical effect, but it always bugged me. Seriously, I could go on and on about this challenge but I have to, oh no, whats happeningWHO CONSTRUCTED THIS ROOM? WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT DID THEY HAVE TO MAKE THIS PERFECT PILLARS? HOW LONG DID IT TAKE? ok, sorry, sometimes I cant control myself.

And then theres challenge three, The Path of God. Oh boy, The Path of God. At this point you all know where Im going to go with this one dont you? Indy has to take a leap of faith in order to pass, only the chasm is too long for a human to jump. So he just puts his foot out and wouldnt you know it? Theres an invisible bridge. Now, I know this is a movie about impossible things and supernatural beings in a series thats been full of aliens, ghosts, gods, and Nazi-melting magical boxes but an invisible bridge? What the hell. How did the people who built this room figure this all out? Was it a special material? An optical illusion done with mirrors? Mirrors didnt exist centuries ago. Did they colour it somehow with an ancient paint or clay? How did they get it to blend so perfectly? Or, is it even there at all?

Overall, were meant to assume that the bridge is always there but is just so hard to detect, anyone who is willing to step out onto it has faith. Thats the gist. But the scene around it is so wonky. To start, its quite clear when Indy enters the space either theres nothing there, or its completely invisible. Then, after he takes a step, the bridge appears almost out of nowhere, revealing itself within the space. So was it always there or not? And if it wasnt, how does this place know if you believe or not? These questions wouldnt matter if there wasnt a shot of Indy getting over the bridge where its clearly permanent stone. Its physically in the space, without a doubt. But thats then followed by a shot where Indy throws sand over it, and its invisible again. Ive been watching this for 30 years and I still have no idea how any of this works. The fact you can argue either way sort of plays into the mystery of it but nevertheless, its just very confusing, and cool, but very confusing to me.

Once Indy, Donovan, and Elsa get to the room with all the cups, things are once again mostly plausible. Save for the fact Donovan is obsessed with the grail, specifically says hes imagined what it could look like, then lets Elsa pick a cup thats no prettier or more ornate than any other cup in the room. She doesnt even look at them all, she just grabs this nearest one. Yes, years of rewatches have made it fairly clear Elsa is just betraying Donovan and knows hes an idiot, but with his life on the line, you think he would have taken a bit more time and consideration here. Obviously the point is no, he doesnt, hes a dumb Nazi who deserve what he gets, but still. If Im nitpicking, Im nitpicking. Watching the sequence again, the knights rules are crystal exactly clear: The grail cannot pass beyond the Great Seal, he said. That is the boundary and the price of immortality. Which could be interpreting that in two ways. One is that ONLY the grail cant go past the seal, which is false, then the real meaning, which is that the seal is also the boundary of immortality. I dont blame my 9 year old self for not getting it immediately the first time he watched this movie, honestly.

Plus, how does the immortality work? The knight is still alive but also very weak and aged. Not hundreds of years aged, but aged nevertheless. Does he keep ageing like that? What happened when he loses all his strength? Maybe he doesnt really get to move around much. I must admit I wouldve loved to see the Knight walk backwards through all the challenges to wave at Indy. Does he have a secret path? And how often does he walk around the other rooms? He doesnt have to stay in the grail room, necessarily, to remain immortal. He could probably walk around and hang out in the other rooms over the centuries. Its not like people are coming for the grail every day. And when someone does come, how do they kill him if hes immortal? Do they have to fight outside?

You see? Ive thought about this 10 minutes of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade way too much. Its endlessly fascinating. Yes, its a bit silly, Im thinking about it way too much especially as, honestly, you could handwave all this as a touch of the supernatural in a movie series filled with it. But despite what you just read above, I dont actually care all that much if Last Crusade doesnt make logical sense. I just love that it exists, and still inspires me to watch and think about it decades after its release.

Encanto and 10 Other Disney Animated Movies That Are Secretly Superhero Films – IGN SOUTH EAST ASIA

Its no secret that superheroes are all the rage in Hollywood right now, especially at Disney, which owns the mighty Marvel roster of characters as well as certain Fox assets like Kingsman, Alita and even Captain Underpants. The Mouse House has also produced their own homegrown cape and tights epics like Pixars two Incredibles films, but have they been producing more stealth entries in the superhero genre all along?

We say yes, and this week Walt Disney Pictures is providing Exhibit A to our assertion with the enchanting fantasy Encanto (read our review). The new animated film follows a Colombian family called the Madrigals who, after a terrible tragedy, were gifted a magical candle that grants powers to each of the newborn children over three generations. That is, it grants powers to all except our lead protagonist Mirabel Madrigal (voiced by Stephanie Beatriz), who stands by and watches her fellow family members flex their super strength (her sister Luisa), healing powers (her mother Julieta), weather control (her aunt Pepa), psychic ability (her uncle Bruno), communication with animals (little cousin Antonio), enhanced hearing (cousin Dolores), or the ability to grow beautiful flowers with a hand gesture (her sister Isabela).

Encanto deftly tracks Mirabels journey of self-discovery as she tries to keep her family together when cracks in the magic begin to occur. While the film has been described since its production announcement in 2016 as having elements of magical realism, comic book fans would not be faulted for finding correlations to superheroes like Storm, Professor X, Animal Man, Daredevil or even Poison Ivy. We even got to ask the movies co-writer/co-director Charise Castro Smith about the parallels between Encanto and other superhero properties.

It's funny, people have been making that comparison, Smith told IGN exclusively. From the inside it doesn't feel that way. From the inside it feels very much like a story about a family a lot like mine. A family with a lot of internal pressures and a lot of love. People who can do extraordinary things, people who have secrets. So yes, the characters in this movie do have superpowers, which is a really cool, interesting element, but I think what I gravitate towards the most is just the relatable family dynamics and sibling relationships. My own relationship with my grandparents, both of them, was a big element that I tried to bring into this story. So sure, yeah, Luisa is totally a superhero!

Luisas super ability to literally carry around a church or village bridge may seem like feats for Superman, but she and the other Madrigals are not alone in the annals of Disney history for seeming to possess superhero traits. Here are 10 other films from the studio that would totally fit the bill of being superhero movies

The tagline of 1978s Superman was Youll believe a man can fly. But what about an elephant? Granted, if you apply the definition of a superhero as any being with extraordinary abilities then just about every animal who ever walked on four legs and spoke in a Disney movie would fall under that category. Yet the character of orphaned Dumbo is exceptional even within the world of the film, as his ability to use his gigantic ears to fly distinguishes him from other circus elephants. He doesnt use this ability to fight crime but to get a Hollywood contract, which is well-deserved and probably what a modern flying elephant would do too.

Another character with the ability to fly is the famed boy who never grew up, Peter Pan. J. M. Barries character from the 1904 play Peter and Wendy checks all the boxes for superhero-dom: Sustained flight? Check. Colorful tights? Check. Immortality? Check. Kid sidekick? Heck, hes got his own gang of Lost Boys. Fights bad guys with strange disfigurements? Yes, Captain Hook definitely qualifies. Cool vehicle? Dudes got his own flying ship! If you need a comic-book corollary, you can look no further than Sprite from Marvel Studios recent Eternals, who in the comics is intended to have actually been Barries inspiration for Peter Pan after Sprite showed off to him one night in 1901.

Like Peter Pan, the title magical nanny played so memorably by Julie Andrews also has the ability to fly, but additionally boasts the power to speak with animals, telekinesis and reality manipulation. Shes also pretty good at transporting herself and others into imaginary worlds rendered in glorious 2D animation. One might say she is "practically perfect in every way." She even got that most superheroic of things, a sequel, with 2018s Mary Poppins Returns where Emily Blunt portrayed her.

Another Disney movie directed by Robert Stevenson (who also helmed Mary Poppins) and featuring a combination of live-action and animation was Bedknobs and Broomsticks, which was sort of a proto-Harry Potter. It stars Angela Lansbury as the good witch Miss Eglantine Price, who uses her magical abilities to fight Nazis during World War II. Shes a bit like John Constantine if he was a dowdy woman who adopted some war orphans. Its also possible she became a mystery writer in coastal Maine later in life, but that remains unconfirmed. The one aspect that separates her from Mary Poppins is she is a witch-in-training, so many of her spells backfire, but she is nevertheless formidable.

Based on the traditional fairy tale that was so memorably adapted by Jean Cocteau in 1946 as La belle et la bte, this 90s classic had the distinction of being the first full-length animated feature to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. It follows the beautiful bookworm Belle who frees her father by taking his place as the title Beasts prisoner, then comes down with a serious case of Stockholm syndrome for the hairy monster who was once a prince before he was transformed by an enchantress. This curse turned him into the Beast, but also gifted him with enhanced strength, speed, agility, durability, healing and senses, not to mention some sweet claws and fangs. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were not feeling super creative when it came time to christen Marvels own blue-tinged version of the character: Hank McCoy, whose nickname on the X-Men team is Beast!

Both Marvel and DC have their own version of the Greek mythological hero, and Hercules papa Zeus was even featured briefly in Zack Snyders Justice League (both the 2017 and 2021 versions). Of course, the Disney version of the super strong hero was more a full-of-himself lunkhead than his comic book counterpart, who in recent years has been outed as gay in the Marvel 616 timeline and is dating a certified Guardian of the Galaxy named Marvel Boy. Still, a guy who principally rescues damsels in distress and fights monsters sounds like a superhero in our book.

This one is cheating slightly, as Edgar Rice Burroughs creation has its roots in the same early 20th century pulp novels that later inspired comic-book superheroes like Batman, The Shadow, etc. The very idea of a feral child raised by apes and being an expert hunter with great dexterity instantly brings to mind Wolverine. In many ways the Wolverine of the films led a kind of wild existence before he was civilized by Professor X, much the same way Jane Porter civilizes Tarzan.

Its fitting that Elsa, loosely based on the titular character from Hans Christian Andersons fable The Snow Queen, was originally envisioned by the filmmakers as the straight-up villain of the film since she has so many similarities to DC Comics baddie Mr. Freeze. Yet she also closely resembles Marvels mutant hero Bobby Drake/Iceman in her ability to conjure and manipulate ice and snow into weapons, shields, escape routes, etc. The fact that her uncontrolled abilities are turning her kingdom of Arendelle into a veritable snowpocalypse goes hand-in-hand with typical X-Men-style drama, i.e. a mutants emotions cause their powers to get so out of hand that they wind up harming or almost harming a ton of peeps. Luckily, Elsa learns to Let It Go proper, and by the sequel Frozen II has mostly mastered her abilities.

Like Mirabel from Encanto, the title Polynesian princess of Moana may not have much in the way of powers, but her sidekick on her journey -- the shape-shifting demigod of the wind and sea and master of sailing named Maui -- certainly qualifies. The fact that he is played with gusto by living superhero Dwayne Johnson only adds to that heroic charisma. Maui is also a bit of a selfish douche, but eventually answers the call of heroism in order to restore the heart of the giant goddess Te Fiti, and fights a ton of big sea monsters along the way. The big guy also has immortality and sentient tattoos, which at a certain point is almost gilding the lily but who are we to complain? Although hes not a comic book-accurate representation, Mauis fellow Pacific Islander Jason Momoa certainly bears some resemblance as Aquaman with his numerous tattoos and overall heroic reluctance.

The Southeast Asian hero Raya is a girl right after Frank Millers heart. Shes badass, excels at martial arts and hand-to-hand combat as well as weapons like swords and sticks, and rides a big bug/armadillo creature named Tuk Tuk just like Millers beautiful assassin Elektra! Okay, maybe Elektra never rode a giant bug-thing, but the similarities are definitely there. Raya is part of the street-level superhero tradition where the persons natural talents and skills more than make up for their lack of standard powers. There is a magical gem at the center of the story with some degree of true power, but its really mostly a MacGuffin to take Raya on her heros journey.

What other Disney characters are secretly superheroes? Lets discuss in the comments!

What is Sutak Kaal?

Sutak Kaal is considered to be a certain time period observed before the Solar Eclipse, which is considered to be inauspicious. According to the Sanatan Dharma, it is the period when the Earth remains under severe contamination due to the malefic influence of Solar Eclipse. In order to get rid of such effects, several religious precautions are necessary to be followed.

The Sutak Kaal during the Solar Eclipse in 2021 depends entirely on the time of eclipse. As per the Panchanga, the Sutak Kaal begins four phases before the time of occurrence of a Solar Eclipse. According to the Hindu Panchaga, there are eight phases or pahars from sunrise to sunset in total, out of which four pahars or twelve hours prior, the Sutak Kaal begins and ends with the end of the Eclipse.

Do we need to observe Sutak Kaal in India?

Do pregnant women need to take any precautions?

Yes, pregnant women are advised to take precautions as the eclipse is believed to impact new life. During this time, the pregnant women should avoid going out of their houses and witnessing the eclipse in any way. During the period of Sutak Kaal on the day of eclipse, women they should refrain from performing tasks like sewing, embroidery, cutting, peeling and cleaning. They should also avoid using knives and needles during the period of the solar eclipse.

What is the mythological significance of Solar Eclipse?

In vedic astrology, the Solar Eclipse is connected to the legend of Rahu and Ketu. According to Matsya Purana, when the amrit or nectar of immortality was extracted from the ocean during the Samudra Manthan, a war began between the Gods and Demons or Asuras since both of them wanted to consume it. In the midst of all, a demon named Swarbhanu planned to consume the nectar by hiding among the Gods. But during all of this, Lord Surya and Lord Chandra revealed his reality by catching him.

As soon as this trick played by the Asura Swarbhanu became known to Lord Vishnu, he became angry and separated his head and torso with his Sudarshan Chakra. But since Swarbhanu had tasted the Amrit, he did not die. Instead, his head was named Rahu, whereas his torso became Rahu. Hence, as a result of his vengeance, every year Rahu covers the Moon and the Sun and causes the phenomenon of Solar Eclipse.

Frozen for the future: Does Minnesota have any cryonics …

A number of Minnesotans have made plans to be frozen, and a passionate group of cryonics enthusiasts is trying to ease the transition.

Listen and subscribe to our podcast: Via Apple Podcasts |Spotify | Stitcher

Minnesotans are used to life in subzero temperatures, but what about death?

Reader Sharon Carlson wanted to know if Minnesota is home to any cryonics facilities, where bodies are kept frozen until theoretical future technology is able to reanimate them. She posed the question to Curious Minnesota, the Star Tribune's reader-powered reporting project.

"I'm just kind of having a hard time with the idea of dying," said the 62-year-old Andover resident. "I'm not philosophical I'm kind of pissed off about it."

There are actually only two cryonics facilities in the nation, in Arizona and Michigan. But a number of Minnesotans have made plans to be frozen, and a passionate group of cryonics enthusiasts is trying to ease the transition from life to long-term storage.

Minnesota Cryonics Rapid Response counts about two dozen members. Most if not all have signed up to spend their postmortem days in large freezers at either the Cryonics Institute (CI) in Clinton Township, Mich., or the Alcor Life Extension Foundation in Scottsdale, Ariz.

When a member dies, time is of the essence.

Other Rapid Response members must stabilize the body as quickly as possible, usually by packing it in ice. The body must be kept cold until it can be shipped to CI or Alcor, where it will be "vitrified" at about 320 degrees below zero Fahrenheit in a vacuum-sealed tube of liquid nitrogen. The response team may administer anti-coagulants to keep the blood from thickening after death.

"Our biggest expense last year was about $150 for ice," said Chris Petersen of Minneapolis, a board member of the rapid response group. "Knowing where your closest 24-hour gas station with an ice freezer has turned out to be a big role."

'Freeze Hank'

Last year, the group launched a GoFundMe fundraiser to help get one of their members, Hank, to the Michigan facility after his death. The "Freeze Hank" campaign didn't raise much only about $2,300. But when Hank died earlier this year, members successfully preserved his body and got it to Michigan.

The primary goal of the fundraiser was to raise money for long-term needs such as an emergency vehicle and monitors that could alert the group when a member's vital functions are failing. They also hope to develop educational materials for paramedics, funeral homes and hospitals, to teach them how to process the body of someone who wants cryonic preservation.

Freezing and reanimation is a frequent theme of Hollywood, playing a prominent role in movies like "Captain America," "Demolition Man" and "Austin Powers."In fact, many of the members of the Rapid Response group were first drawn to cryonics through sci-fi.

"I've always liked the harder part of sci-fi, where the science is plausible," Petersen said. He admits that when he first heard about cryonics, "I thought it sounded kind of quacky."

But Petersen and others maintain that what seems out of the realm of possibility today may be routine in the future. Nobody thought humans could fly; then the Wright brothers did it. A century ago, nobody would have believed a heart transplant was possible, yet today they're not even newsworthy.

Advances in cellular and molecular science are opening doors to medical advances that would have been unheard of even a decade ago, said Dennis Kowalski, president of CI. Scientists routinely freeze and thaw human eggs, sperm, embryos and tissue samples with no ill effects. Who's to say a whole body couldn't be frozen and thawed successfully?

"I don't believe we're at the zenith of human technological knowledge," Kowalski said. "We're going to be smarter in the future than we are today."

Health care of the future

CI has about 200 bodies in vitrification right now, Kowalski said, along with about 200 pets. Walt Disney is not among them, despite rumors that the famed animator had his head frozen after death a rumor Kowalski said is false.

But there is at least one famous person at his facility, Kowalski said, although he can't reveal who it is.

CI, which is a nonprofit organization, requires a donation of $28,000 to be stored at the facility indefinitely, Kowalski said. Many members donate more, with the money often coming from life insurance policies. The institute invests the donations in mutual funds, which are expected to provide money to keep the facility operating into the future.

Of course, if you're frozen after dying of cancer, you will still have a cancer-ridden body when you wake up.

"The issue is when you wake up, they have to fix what killed you," said Gene Shaver of St. Louis Park, another rapid response team member. But that's where members believe science will find a way.

"Let's be very honest here," Petersen said. "This is a long shot that we're doing. But if humanity and civilization is still around 500 or 1,000 years from now, if they have the technology to bring someone back to life, they probably have the technology to do nanotechnology or gene therapy" to treat the cause of death.

And for cryonics advocates, that long shot is better than nothing at all.

As Kowalski put it: "I can be sure that if you don't try, you're going to be worm dirt."

Five-Step Guide to Becoming a Sponsored Poker Player – PokerTube

08:3424 Nov

One of the most popular games in the world, poker, is a phenomenon in many countries, with the United States leading the way. Not only do people love playing Texas Holdem in their spare time, but they also enjoy watching poker matches when the top professionals compete.

That is why the top players can not only earn outstanding prize money for winning tournaments, but have the chance to grab lucrative sponsorships from companies that want players to help promote their brands.

If you try your hand at poker and discover that you have a real talent for this game, then you may want to work on making a career out of the game. Below is a five-step guide that explains how you can become a sponsored poker player.

Becoming a poker player when you are new to the game is a big hurdle, but one that you can get over. Start by learning the basics of poker, master the various hands, understand gamesmanship and winning techniques, and then test your hand at gameplay.

When you are at a level where you are confident about beating good players, set up a place where you can put out poker content on the internet. There are countless ways to post videos, including YouTube and various gaming streaming websites. Live-streaming is usually a better bet when you want to gain a following, as people can interact with you in real-time.

A lot of the most popular poker players in the world who have significant sponsorships got them as a result of their exploits on sites like Twitch, YouTube, and recently Facebook Gaming. By establishing such a platform, you become a lot more attractive to any company that may want to offer you a sponsorship.

Establishing a large following is a very good start if you aspire to have a career as a professional poker player. One way to take your brand over the edge is to gain a following in one or two specific demographics, as that will help you gain sponsorships.

Companies have a very good understanding of who does and does not buy their products. While an aspiring poker player may be lucky enough to gain sponsorship from a mega-corporation that has products appealing to nearly all demographics, most such sponsorships come from small and mid-sized companies.

If a poker player can show that they get a lot of views on Twitch and Facebook, but also that most of these views are from men aged 18-30, they are in a very good position. That demographic would be very appealing to companies that have products to market to men in that age group.

Poker players are not unique from other entertainers and gamers in online spaces. They must often tread a very fine line between showboating and demonstrating arrogance, and remaining humble and relatable.

The everyman approach can work wonders when you are attempting to gain a following on Twitch. Even as you win poker tournaments and showcase your skills, remaining humble helps you attract an audience. Eventually, you may want to shift gears ever so slightly.

Showboating and talking up your wins can be helpful when you want to gain sponsorships. Companies want to partner with entertainers and gamers who are willing to put themselves out there. If you talk yourself up, your fanbase will do the same, and that further raises your profile.

Ensure that you tread the fine line between the occasional boast and display of justified arrogance, and the off-putting cockiness that may turn brands away from you.

The moment you open yourself up to scrutiny over the internet, you must forget about the notion of privacy. Whether you are streaming on Twitch, recording a video to post on YouTube, posting a photo on Instagram, or tweeting about a news article on Twitter, you are now a public figure.

Conduct yourself with that in mind during any interaction, especially online. Even if you are in a private chat with another person, you must be careful about what you say. Any statement that is deemed offensive or inappropriate could cause problems for your personal brand, which is problematic for getting sponsorships.

Even if you are lucky enough to secure backing from one or multiple companies, do not let your guard down. Speak your mind and show your personality, but remember that people are always waiting for high profile gamers and entertainers to slip up. Do not give anyone the opportunity to cause problems that could threaten your livelihood.

Someone who has ambitions of becoming a professionally sponsored poker player must prove themselves in tournaments. Even with a decent following on Twitch and other platforms, most companies want to support winners in the long term. That is why poker players, who go many years without a tournament win, can fall off the radar.

Having an appealing personality and marketing yourself will get you very far in this profession. Winning is what takes you over the top, and establishes you as a pro poker player who can match up against the very best. Those are the players any company would want to represent.

Do not despair if you are not already at this level. Many poker players spend years improving their game before they can win big money tournaments. Continue to persevere with your game, play against opponents of different styles, and understand your weaknesses as well. Then you can elevate your game and gain the attention of companies for sponsorships.

Having a career playing poker is not easy, and you must have real talent to succeed in this profession. Not only do you have to spend countless hours perfecting your game, but you do need moments of luck to come away with big winnings at tournaments.

One of the ways to earn and save more money as a poker player is by securing a sponsorship. Having a company that pays you money each month or year helps you become less reliant on winning tournaments to stay afloat.

Even though you must continue to compete and excel to retain and gain sponsorships, you can make more money through this method compared to tournament prize money.

The Biggest Bubble in Poker History Bursts in Episode #8 of Triton Million – PokerNews.com

November 28, 2021PokerNews Staff

In 2019, 27 amateurs and 27 of the worlds best pros competed in the biggest buy-in event in history. Now, the Triton Million - A Helping Hand for Charity poker tournament is being released as a 10-episode series on Triton Poker's YouTube Channel.

A total of 54 players stumped up the seven-figure entry fee with 50,000 of each buy-in going to benefit 15 different charities. As a result, this saw 2.7 million going to a plethora of good causes as well as generating a staggering 54 million ($73,993,800) pound prize pool.

Here's a look at five of either the biggest or most interesting hands from the eighth episode, which can be viewed in full below.

With blinds at 50,000/100,000/100,000, Nick Petrangelo opened to 200,000 from a stack of 2,500,000, with the in early position, and received two callers in the shape of Vivek Rajkumar holding the chip lead and the in the cutoff, and Chin Wei Lim with the , and 2,400,000 in the big blind.

The deck kept it low with a flop of , but it handed Rajkumar a flush draw. Wei Lim checked, Petrangelo bet 250,000, and Rajkumar raised to 650,000. Wei Lim folded and Petrangelo moved all in for his tournament life, which Rajkumar called.

Petrangelo needed to avoid a diamond or an ace but failed when the hit the turn at the first hurdle. The completed the action, and Petrangelo departed a few places shy of the money.

With blinds still at 50,000/100,000/100,000, Igor Kurganov found the in the hijack and moved all in for 1,300,000. Bill Perkins called for 1,200,000 with the in the cutoff, and after everyone folded,it was down to the first bubble hand of the event.

The entire room crowded around the table as the dealer fanned the on the flop to give Perkins a middle set. Kurganovs odds rose from 7% to 25% picking up flush and straight outs on a turn, but the on the river enabled Perkins to float on a pink cloud to the final table and leave Kurganov with chip dust.

A few hands later, and Kurganov earned the unwanted tag of losing the biggest bubble hand in poker history after his lost out to the of Rajkumar.

With blinds at 60,000/120,000/120,000, Winfred Yu moved all in for 600,000 in the cutoff holding the and received a call from the big stack, Rajkumar, who had the in the big blind.

Yu maintained his lead on the flop, but Rajkumar overtook him with the top pair after the hit the turn.

Yu left the tournament in 11th place for 1,100,000 after the completed the action on the river.

With blinds at 60,000/120,000/120,000, Chin Wei Lim moved all in for 1,650,000 from the hijack with the , and Bryn Kenney called with the in the big blind.

Kenney needed to flop something to oust the dangerous Lim from the contest, and the gave him everything with a Broadway straight. Lim needed the board to pair on the turn to give him any chance of survival, which happened when the appeared.

Lim needed either a five or a ten to pip Kenney and stave off elimination, but instead, the hit the river to send Lim out in 10th place, receiving 1,100,000 in winnings.

With blinds at 60,000/120,000/120,000, Chan Wai Leong moved all in for 2,600,000 in the small blind holding the , and after some deliberation, Timothy Adams made the call with the covering stack in the big blind holding the dominating . The board ran out , Adams won the hand, and the Triton Million had its final eight players.

Why are poker players obsessed with CryptoPunk NFTs? – Coin Rivet

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) appear to be returning from a recent lull with jaw-dropping valuations and volume spikes on platforms like OpenSea as several top poker players lead the charge.

The likes of CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club now have price floors of 100ETH ($440,000) and 45ETH ($198,000) respectively, while new play to earn NFTs like Wolf Game boast a market cap of more than $380 million.

NFTs are arguably the most divisive investment assets, some believe that they are a gimmick and a bubble that will die out, whilst others claim they are the future of art and gaming.

One industry that has endorsed NFTs with open arms is poker. High stakes players like Mike McDonald, Jeff Gross, Dan Smith and Ryan Daut all have Crypto Punks worth around $400,000 as their Twitter profile pictures, with Bill Perkins sporting a World of Women NFT.

Poker and NFTs are the perfect fusion. Naturally, poker players like to take risks, even the best player in the world is at risk of losing serious capital if they get stung by an opponents one-out river card, but the key to profitability is being plus EV (Expected Value) over time.

Investments in things like NFTs are a store of value to poker players. Given that its a very novel industry, NFT collectibles like CryptoPunks are expected to soar even more in value to a point where only the worlds elite can afford to buy one.

This, ultimately, is the crux of it all. NFTs have become a status symbol Jay Z, Wolf of Wall Street (Jordan Belfort) and Jason Derulo all have CryptoPunks as their Twitter profile pictures in what is often described as the ultimate flex.

As the world thrusts itself further into the daunting reality of a digital dystopia, there really is no better way of flaunting wealth and status than through an 8-bit retro avatar that is valued at half a million dollars.

It also boils down to simple supply and demand theory. Currently, out of 10,000 CryptoPunks zero of them are listed for sale on OpenSea.

If a young poker player wins a few million from a tournament, in the past they might have bought themselves a new Audemars Piguet watch for $100,000. Now, the goalposts have shifted $500,000 CryptoPunks are the desirable asset as ridiculous as that may seem.

By the Numbers: 17 Years of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Rio – PokerNews.com

November 25, 2021Jon Sofen

The poker world has reached the end of an era with the World Series of Poker (WSOP) concluding its final bracelet event at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

Next summer, the series will move down the road to the Las Vegas Strip, the first time the WSOP will take place anywhere but the Rio since 2004, when it was hosted at Binion's downtown.

On June 3, 2005, Anthony Nguyen shipped the $500 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em tournament, the first bracelet ever won at the Rio, owned at the time by Harrah's Entertainment, which later became Caesars Entertainment. Allen Cunningham was the first player to win an open bracelet event at the near-Strip property, having taken down a $1,500 NLH tournament two days after Nguyen's win.

The final bracelet won at the Rio, out of the 1,030 total awarded, occurred on Tuesday, with Boris Kolev winning Event #88: $5,000 8-Handed No-Limit Hold'em, exactly 6,019 days since the off-Strip casino first opened its doors to the World Series of Poker.

In between the first champion and the last winner there have been more memorable moments than we can count. But we did dig up some interesting stats on the WSOP during the Rio era, starting with the G.O.A.T. of the WSOP, Phil Hellmuth, who is unsurprisingly the only player to win more than five bracelets at the Caesars-owned resort.

Hellmuth, who won his 16th bracelet last month in Event #31: $1,500 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw, collected six shiny gold bracelets at the Rio. Four others won five, and they are listed as follows:

Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan's greatest accomplishments were behind them by the time the WSOP left Binion's following the 2004 series. But they each made history at the mega resort.

During the first month the series took place at the Rio in 2005, Chan became the first player ever to reach 10 bracelets when he shipped a $2,500 pot-limit hold'em tournament. Four days later, Brunson reached the double-digit bracelet plateau by taking down a $5,000 no-limit hold'em event. Neither player has since won a WSOP title, although they both still compete in the occasional bracelet event.

Hellmuth would catch up the following summer in a $1,000 no-limit hold'em tournament, and then win his 11th in 2007, a record no one else has since achieved. Phil Ivey is the only other player to win 10 bracelets, but only four occurred at the Rio. The Poker Hall of Famer won his 10th in 2014 when he took down a $1,500 8-game mix tournament.

There are two ways to analyze Daniel Negreanu's performance in bracelet events at the Rio. The first is for those who look at championships as the measuring stick for player success. And the other looks at the overall body of work (titles, final table appearances, cashes, awards, etc.).

Since 2008, Negreanu hasn't won a single bracelet at the Rio, although he won two overseas in 2013. But he's reached 26 final tables two in the past few days at the Las Vegas casino over that span, which is impressive in itself. The GGPoker ambassador won his lone bracelet at the Rio in 2008, and has since gone 0-7 when heads-up for a bracelet.

Daniel Negreanu's Most Mind-Boggling WSOP Stat at the Rio

Roland Israelashvili has produced one of the most intriguing poker careers ever. With 304 cashes in WSOP and WSOP Circuit events, he holds the all-time record, but he's never won a bracelet, although he does have eight circuit rings.

At the Rio, Israelashvili racked up 131 cashes, more than anyone in history. But he did so without winning a bracelet, never reaching heads-up for a bracelet, and only reaching three final tables. He's the consummate min-casher, perhaps even more so than Allen Kessler.

Winning poker's most prestigious annual event doesn't necessarily mean you're a great player. Since 2005, the WSOP has crowned 17 different world champions, and only four of those winners have multiple bracelets Joe Cada (4), Joe McKeehen (3), Jonathan Duhamel (3), and Greg Merson (2).

In total, the WSOP champs in the Rio era have won just eight bracelets outside of the Main Event. Going back even further, none of the champs from 2002-2004 Robert Varkonyi, Chris Moneymaker, or Greg Raymer have won a second bracelet. Times sure have changed since the 1990s and earlier when Main Event champs were often multiple-time bracelet winners.

The Time Is (Still) Now For Change In The Poker Hall of Fame – PocketFives

I also wanted to say that there are so many deserving nominees who have worked hard to earn a place in the Hall of Fame. More and more great players and builders are starting to turn 40 years old. I really hope that the World Series of Poker begins to induct a couple more nominees each year. Eli Elezra, 2021 Poker Hall of Fame inductee.

For the second year in a row, just a single person was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. This year, it was Eli Elezra, noted high-stakes cash game pro and four-time WSOP bracelet winner. By all accounts, for his contribution and achievements in the game, Elezras inclusion in the Hall is well deserved. But in his brief speech in the Brazilia Room, after thanking his mentors and recounting his journey, Elezra took a moment to acknowledge the other deserving nominees with a hope that they, like him, may also have the opportunity to be so honored.

Its a hope thats shared by many who follow the Poker Hall of Fame. In 2020, it came a bit of a surprise that the PHOF opted to reduce the already low number of two inductees to a single person, citing a return to the Poker Hall of Fames roots and the benefit of time as reasons to keep the election process as elite as it is.

We like tradition, WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart said in 2020. One per year is the way it was for the majority of the Poker Hall of Fames history. A single inductee seems to promote the prestige of the honor. Most of the finalists these past few years are very young men. I would hope and assume they will all get inducted eventually.

What a difference a year makes. Even when the voting process allowed for two persons per year, the thought that the bottleneck of bringing valued figures of poker into the Hall of Fame was not ready for the flood of future poker greats, inspired by the poker boom.

Looking ahead, without change, the Poker Hall of Fame may keep its elitist status but will forgo its credibility. A Hall of Fame isnt about the number of people in it, its about accomplishments. And nearly two decades after a poker explosion extended the love for the game around the world, continuing to cut off more-than-deserving players and builders, makes the Hall look and feel like an old-school popularity contest rather than a celebration of those who have made the game great.

That point has never been better illustrated than this year at the 2021 World Series of Poker when players, far younger than the 40 year age requirement, have added bracelets to their resume that reflect the numbers that, as of right now, are part of a legitimate Hall of Fame career.

Take a look at the accomplishments of Shaun Deeb, Brian Hastings, and Brian Rast, all three of which earned their fifth career bracelet this fall. Rast, who will turn 40 before the next Hall of Fame nomination process, has made it well-known that the Hall of Fame is on his radar as what he expects to be his next accomplishment and will most certainly be considered next year.

Really, the number one thing at this point is kind of just making the Poker Hall of Fame. I mean, I feel like, I think Ive done enough in my career Rast said immediately after his fifth win. And hes not out of line in that thinking. In addition to collecting bracelets, Rast also has more than $22 million in live career tournament earnings, good for 24th on the All-Time Money List, and has been known to play cash games at some of the highest stakes available.

Those three five-time bracelet winners are followed closely by a swarm of top-tier names, all of whom earned their fourth this series. Adrian Mateos, Ben Yu, Anthony Zinno, Brian Yoon, John Monnette, Benny Glaser, Farzad Bonyadi, Adam Friedman, Kevin Gerhart, and 2021 WSOP Player of the Year Josh Arieh all have great cases for future consideration. The four-time bracelet winner club increased by 33% in just one series and, coincidentally, its the same number of bracelets that Eli Elezra has to his credit upon induction.

Of course, bracelets alone are by no means the only criteria for being inducted, but they do play a big role. Currently, respect at the highest stakes and, honestly, popularity among the 32 living members of the Hall of Fame (or those who have the most influence within that group) is perhaps even more important under the current system. But with that said, its clear that not only is there incredible talent on the rise, but the bar for what its going to take in the future to not only get nominated but get elected is also climbing higher.

With so much talent rising and becoming eligible over the next five years two things are clear: the first is that the time for the Poker Hall of Fame to adapt to how much bigger the game of poker is today is here. In fact, its been here. Also, secondly, should the Hall not adapt, people who were once thought to be a lock for the Hall of Fame one day will be frozen out far longer than they deserve to be due to the pressure of escalating poker resume requirements to be considered by the public for the nomination process as well as for the voters themselves.

For example, take a look at the case for Mike The Mouth Matusow. Matusows resume looks incredibly close to that of Elezras in terms of his bracelet count and his time spent on poker television. It wouldnt be tough to argue that, in terms of notoriety, Matusows influence on the game of poker far outshines many of the more recent inductees. His brash, polarizing personality has been ever-present on the poker landscape since the early 2000s, and, like him or not, hes been an ambassador for the everyman and a persistent presence on poker television.

But at 53 years old, Matusow doesnt appear to be any closer to an induction into the Hall today from the day he became eligible. In 2020, when the votes cast were made public, Matusow received the third-lowest total votes. Perhaps its because the mouth hes so famous for is a turn-off for those casting the votes. But as Hall of Famer Daniel Negreanu has said many times the Poker Hall of Fame isnt designated for just the nice guys.

If it were, well Matt Savage wouldnt still be waiting. But even after his sixth nomination, Savage one of the most influential tournament directors in the game is still on the sidelines and, like Matusow, will soon be facing the robust resumes of elite players. But hes also contending with the perceived notion that, if theres only one spot open, its best not to use it for a builder or someone who has simply advanced the game as opposed to someone who crushes in it.

To further that point, it seemed like when PokerStars founder Isai Scheinberg was first nominated in 2020 he would be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. He, along with his son Mark, took online poker to the masses, helped amplify the Moneymaker effect, and not for nothing was the architect to bail out thousands of players from the implosion of Full Tilt Poker (something that likely keeps surefire Hall of Fame member Chris Ferguson on the outside, perhaps never to get in). But Scheinberg, even after clearing up all legal ramifications in regards to Black Friday, is not only not a first ballot member, hes now been passed over twice.

Its easy to see a few of these names and, perhaps, argue that they actually dont belong. That what they have contributed or achieved doesnt warrant inclusion. But its hard to ignore that the impact of poker on the worldwide community is also not well-reflected in the Hall of Fame. Recent nominees including Chris Bjorn, Thor Hansen, and Bruno Fitoussi all deserve another look for their contributions to poker.

The end result is a Poker Hall of Fame that looks trapped in time and out of touch with modern poker. But heres the hope moving forward: as the World Series of Poker leaves the Rio and begins a new era on the strip, perhaps there is a new era of change for the Poker Hall of Fame on the horizon. Not one that loosens the requirements by any means, but, as Elezra said in his speech, acknowledges that there are many deserving people from both the player and builder category who deserve to have the doors of the Hall open while they still around to enjoy being a part of it.

While gambling revenue in Pennsylvania continues to soar, online poker is hanging steady in the gambling slipstream.

According to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Boards report for October, gambling revenues hit a record-high of $425,916,762, beating the watermark set in July by $3 million.

Out of that, the four online poker rooms pulled in $2.8 million, a blip down from $2.92 million they generated in September.

BetMGM and Borgata, which operate using PartyPokers software, saw slight increases while WSOP and PokerStars revenue slightly declined from September.

The WSOPs October revenue was affected by unmet guarantees in more than a dozen tournaments spread in its Fall Online Championship Series. The shortfalls forced the operator to add more than $285K to prize pools throughout the month. The same series also ran on WSOP.com in New Jersey and Nevada, which share player pools with one another, and whose tournaments met all but one of their guarantees.

Its the third full month with all four poker rooms operating. PokerStars had a monopoly from November 2019 until Borgata and BetMGM went live in the Spring this year, followed by WSOP in July.

After gambling revenue surpassed the $400 million mark in July, Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Executive Director Kevin OToole said he expects the trend to continue thanks to online table games and slots, which passed $70 million in revenue itself.

The online gaming revenue total for October, which includes online poker but not online sportsbooks, hit $103 million across 10 casinos a 72% increase compared to October 2020. Four brick-and-mortar casinos are partners with the states online poker sites, including Hollywood Casino at Penn National, which partners with BetMGM, Rivers Casino, which partners with Borgata, Mt. Airy whos partnered with PokerStars, and Harrahs, which is partners with WSOP.com.

The states gaming report outlines how online gambling has been a goldmine for these casinos, particularly Hollywood Casino, which pulled in $20 million in October; only $303K of that revenue came from online poker, however. Rivers online revenue is second in the state at $26 million, but only $108K of those monies came from online poker.

Mt. Airy generated $5.3 million in online gambling revenue, of which $1.8 million came from PokerStars. Harrahs generated $2.6 million in online revenue in October, of which, $587K came from poker.

Like its neighbor to the West, New Jersey saw a slight dip in poker revenue in October, taking in $2.4 million throughout the month, which is $100K less than the state booked in September. Even so, the states revenue remains steady for the year, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcements iGaming report for October.

After cracking the $1 million revenue mark in September, BetMGM/Borgata took the biggest step back, falling $88K short of its September number. Only WSOP, possibly thanks to the online bracelet events that ran on Sundays throughout the month, made slight gains.

Including online poker, online gambling revenue for October was $127 million, up $5 million from September. The statestotal gross fromgambling was $448.7 million. The casinos doing a booming business with their online table games and slots, while online poker remains a niche offering.

Resorts Digital Gaming, which partners with PokerStars, pulled in $29 million in online gambling revenue for October, with just $623K of that coming from poker. For Caesars/WSOP.com, total online revenue was $8 million, with just about 10% coming from poker. Meanwhile, Borgatas online gambling revenue tally hit nearly $39 million, with only $933K coming from poker.

Police probe ‘strip poker’ footage of cops after officers filmed in flat without consent – Scottish Daily Record

Police Scotland have launched a probe after footage of serving officers allegedly playing a game of strip poker has been circulated online.

The vile video, which was taken without the consent of those involved, is said to have been filmed in the quiet town of Campbeltown, Argyll, on Monday night.

Footage seen by the Daily Record appears to show the group, involving three male cops and one female within a private flat as they are filmed from another property across the street.

It has been shared widely on social media with those who filmed it claiming the cops were performing 'sex acts'.

But a source close to the investigation told the Record it was a game of strip poker after a night of drinking and that those who have filmed it could now be on the wrong side of the law.

The source said: "Whatever you think about what the officers were doing, they were behind closed doors, in a private home, and were all consenting participants in what went on.

"They didn't consent to being filmed. They couldn't, as they didn't even know it was happening.

"Recording people in intimate situations without their consent is a criminal offence and can carry a jail term.

"It's also against the law to share or distribute this illegally obtained footage.

"Whoever is responsible for filming and sharing the video should be worried, they're probably going to be facing at least two charges when the case gets to court."

Recording people without their knowledge or consent is a crime under under Sections 9(1) and (4) of the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009.

Disclosure of an intimate photograph or film is also a crime under Section 1 (2) of the Abusive Behaviour and Sexual Harm (Scotland) Act 2016.

No police officers have been suspended.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said that the probe was at an early stage.

She said: "We are aware of reports of mobile phone footage being shared online. Enquiries are at an early stage."

Party will use a special app to manage the MCD Badlaav Campaign: Gopal Rai – News Nation

New Delhi :

With the MCD elections around the corner, the Aam Aadmi Party is preparing for a large-scale MCD Badlaav Campaign which will be launched on 2nd December, Party State Convenor Gopal Rai informed. Different responsibilities have been assigned to the office-bearers of the party for this. The preparations for the Badlaav campaign started on 27th November.

A special app will be used to upload all the campaign details. Gopal Rai added that an in-charge would be appointed in each division who would be responsible for conducting the MCD Badlaav Campaign. On 5th December, teams in every division of Delhi will launch the MCD Badlaav Campaign at the ground level by placing tables. AAP National Secretary Pankaj Gupta said that their main aim is to have at least one in-charge in every division. Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Gopal Rai addressed a virtual meeting on Friday. He said, In view of the MCD elections, we are going to launch a big membership drive soon.

In this MCD Badlaav Campaign, we will upload the data through a special app to streamline the data and for efficient work. The training for this app will be given by Pankaj Gupta Ji, Adil Ji, and Anuj Ji at the party office on November 27. Yesterday, the district teams of the Partys State Organisation, observers, and the speaker and organization ministers from each assembly were trained at the party office on how to carry the MCD Badlaav Campaign forward. He continued, For 4 days, between 28th November to 1st December, a planning meeting in all the Vidhan Sabha will be fixed by every Lok Sabha and District Presidents.

Meetings will be held after discussion with the MLAs and other people present there. Two things have to be completed in that meeting. One, about who will be in charge of the change campaign from each of our Mandals. When I am talking about the in-charge, it is to be kept in mind that this post will be in addition to the Mandal President. They could be an office-bearer of the Legislative Assembly or a ward-level office-bearer or a Vidhansabha-level office-bearer of the Centre.

Two, those who are our responsible colleagues, who are working in other positions, also have to be made in charge of the board. Their responsibility is to successfully complete the MCD change campaign. Giving more information about the launch of MCD Badlaav Campaign, Gopal Rai said, Everyone will be given complete training on the app, how to operate the app and how to upload the data on it in a meeting. These meetings will be held on 28th, 29th, 30th, and 1st. On 2nd December, we will launch this at the Central level. In this, everyone from the high-level people to the Mandal President will be called to the party office. So by calling all those people who are in charge of the Mandals and those who are becoming Mandal President, we will launch this MCD Badlaav Campaign before the central media on 2nd December.

After this, on December 5, our desks will be set up in every Mandal. If 5th is a Sunday, then on that day in every division of Delhi, our teams will launch this change campaign at the ground level by setting up desks. He continued, At the launch, all the party members, all the MLAs, all the councilors, all the frontal office-bearers, wherever they are, will be taking up their responsibilities in the campaign and playing their respective roles.

They will get the design of posters and hoardings before the central launch on the 2nd and our outdoor campaign to put up posters and hoardings in all the Legislative Assemblies will be completed before the 2nd day. So in this, we will add new members. After the MCD Badlaav Campaign, all the organization ministers will meet the new members of MCD Badlaav Campaign booth-wise and give them responsibility so that those people can also become a part of our organization active in this.

He said, This is a major campaign, so we want every booth to have at least 4-5 lanes, so we have to decide through this MCD Badlaav Campaign that we have at least 8-10 people in every street. These people will further our campaign and its awareness in their respective streets, to ensure good connectivity. We will try to recognise our correct and potential new members. They can be identified according to the streets.

So that later we will be able to make them the organization officers at the level of that street through which we will conduct further activities. AAP National Secretary Pankaj Gupta said, As Gopal Ji said that we have to reach every street, every gully, and our effort is to ensure that enough people take charge and be appointed to oversee the efforts. We have to add so many people that there are about 50 names on every page in every booth.

Out of them at least two people should be the ones to whom we can give responsibility. This is our aim. This time we will go ahead keeping this in mind because every time we try to access different divisions, booths get blocked. That's why Arvind Ji has given a special responsibility that we can go beyond the booth to reach even smaller groups of people. We will come up with a good name for that too. You have to take responsibility to think of a name.
