When it comes to the coronavirus, good news is few and far between. But, in Russia, a sudden silver lining may finally have been found: some people are drinking less and eating healthier.

According to a new survey from Roskachestvo Consumer Behavior Research Center and Online Market Intelligence, during the Covid-19 lockdown, Russian people have significantly changed their shopping habits to avoid from more harmful food and drink.

The study, conducted between April 21-22, shows that 45 percent of Russians gave up alcohol, 38 percent gave up sweets, and 35 percent gave up sausages. Interestingly, those from older age brackets were more likely to stop buying harmful products, with two-thirds (67 percent) of respondents over the age of 55 putting down the bottle.

The research also brought up some little quirks about regional variations in the country, discovering that those from Russia's Southern Federal District were more likely than the rest to give up fish (39 percent) and cheese (32 percent). In the North Caucasus region, some people (six percent) even stopped buying fresh vegetables an anomalous not-so-healthy choice. On the whole, 35 percent of those surveyed said that their food shopping costs had reduced since the start of quarantine, with 35 percent saying that theirs increased. Earlier this month, it was reported by Izvestia that figures from fiscal data operator Taxcom showed that vodka sales had dropped 41 percent in the first week of April.

There is nodoubt that this is a hard time but it can be taken as an opportunity to begrateful for so many things that we are blessed with. Ingredients:

2 Tbsp fresh lime juice

1 packet unsweetened frozen acai puree

2 Tbsp strawberries

2 Tbsp kiwi

2 Tbsp pineapple

2 Tbsp blueberries

Chopped raw whole raw cashews

Instructions: Blend your acai puree and lime juice until smooth, then place blended acai puree into a bowl and top it off with the fruit of your choice. For me, I like to add a little bit of almond butter as well.

Banana Oatmeal Breakfast Cookies: Now fixing cookies for breakfast isnt ideal but you can always prepare these the night before so in the morning you can just grab and go.

Ingredients:

3 bananas (mashed)

1 Tsp cinnamon

1 Tsp salt

1 Tbsp vanilla extract

cup of oats

cup of shredded coconut

1 handful of dark chocolate chips

Instructions: Preheat your oven to 350 F. Then, you are going to get yourself a mixing bowl and mix all your ingredients. Once you have mixed your ingredients, you are going to get a baking pan and oil it so your cookies wont stick and then begin to portion out and place your cookies onto the pan. Let them cook for 20 minutes, and once theyve finished, let them cool, and then they are ready to eat.

Coronavirus dos and don’ts: How to stay safe in public facilities – Gulf News

Dubai: People can take simple steps to protect themselves and others from the spread of novel coronavirus while using shared public facilities.

Instead of getting panicky and being anxious, people can stay safe from the spread of Covid-19 by following a healthy lifestyle and good hygiene practices, said Dr. Atul Anant Aundhekar, general practitioner and CEO of Avivo Group.

Since the virus spreads through droplet secretions from infected people, gyms, pools, salons and shisha cafs are some of the facilities where residents need to be vigilant about preventive measures.

Giving tips to follow in such shared public facilities, Dr. Aundhekar told Gulf News that creating a hygienic island within one metre of ones surroundings should be the main aim of residents to allay concerns.

For that, he said people have to use a combination of common sense, basic hygiene practices, seek assistance in ensuring cleanliness and be ready to clean up their own surroundings even in shared facilities.

Please ask for assistance to ensure hygienic conditions in facilities that you visit. It is our right. If people can carry wet wipes to touch common surfaces and clean their surrounding area, it will be good.

Social distancing

While washing or sanitising hands is considered the most important preventive measure against the coronavirus, maintaining a distance of three feet or one metre from people around is also a prudent step to ward off catching an infection, said Dr Aundhekar.

When you are in a social place, just be watchful. Dont get closer to people, especially those who are showing respiratory symptoms like repeatedly coughing and sneezing.

Just as avoiding handshakes and hugs is important while greeting others, people should also be mindful about not touching inappropriately on surfaces in shared facilities.

Also touching your face repeatedly if your hand is not washed or sanitised is as bad as inhaling the virus.

Changing clothes immediately after reaching home and taking a shower twice a day are also additional safety measures that Dr. Aundhekar suggests.

REVIEW

While people may wash their other clothes frequently, they hardly wash suits and ties. You have to dry clean them.

At the gym

Gyms should ensure that machines are cleaned properly after each members use to ensure there is no sweat or cough/sneeze droplets on them, said Dr. Aundhekar.

You can seek assistance from the gym to clean up the machine before you start using it.

He said people should also share the responsibility of not spreading any illness from their side.

Your respiratory hygiene is also very important. Cover your face with tissue paper or your flexed elbow while coughing or sneezing.

In the swimming pool

Since the novel Coronavirus is not waterborne, Dr. Aundhekar said the spread of virus through swimming pool water should not be a cause of concern.

However, practicing basic hygiene before, during and after using the pool is a must.

Taking a shower in warm water, not cold or lukewarm water, before and after swimming is recommended, he said.

Keeping towels, swim wear and normal clothes for changing in hygienic conditions is also important.

Salons, beauty parlours

Generally, salons, parlours and aesthetic clinics follow hygiene and disinfection practices when it comes to the tools they use. Similarly, it is good to follow disinfection techniques in furniture and other seating arrangements.

It is important to use disposable blades, threads and waxing sticks and also disinfect the handles of the tools like razors, he said.

Shisha cafs

The golden rule in shisha cafs now should be no sharing of pipes, according to Dr Aundhekar.

Either you afford one or you dont smoke. Since shisha is directly touching mouth, nobody should share same shisha pipe with even friends and family members.

He said customers have to make sure disposable pipes and filters are used.

Hygiene checklist

Rohit Bharati, head of marketing - West Zone Group which runs Dubai restaurant Tashan that serves shisha, said the eatery maintains a hygiene checklist.

From sanitisation of equipment to proper ventilation, everything is inspected on a daily basis. Each section has its separate cleaning material. A strict guideline is followed by the staff which includes change of uniform every shift, wearing hair restraints, sanitising of hands and more.

The Shisha at Tashan has its own section. After every use, the shishas are cleaned thoroughly before they are put back in action. The pipes and the water is changed per service.

Although, these are basic things and I suppose most people do it but its always good to reiterate the significance of good hygiene.

Atul Shah, managing director of Euro Gulf Swimming Pools in Abu Dhabi, said the spread of coronavirus was not a big concern among regular pool visitors till recently as not many cases had been reported in the local community.

But things are evolving fast and the authorities are taking additional measures like closing down the schools etc. So, I guess people will be more cautious now. Community pools are taking extra care about hygiene these days.

Rajesh Balachandran, who lives in a Dubai community, said he was concerned about the spread of virus through the common gym in his apartment block as there are many nationalities including those hailing from severely affected countries using the gym.

We dont know who all used the machines before we use them. I dont know if cleaning is frequently done. I usually use my own gloves and towel in the gym. But there are machines for which you have to use bare hands. You cant be sure if it is safe.

The diet to consider

Women should always eat well at every stage of their lives. Dietician Esther John says, Trying to balance the demands of family and work can make it difficult for any woman to maintain a healthy diet. But the right food can support your mood, boost your energy, and help you maintain a healthy weight.

She gives some nutrition and diet tips:

While women tend to need fewer calories than men, their requirements for certain vitamins and minerals are much higher. Hormonal changes associated with menstruation, child-bearing, and menopause mean that women have a higher risk of anaemia, weakened bones, and osteoporosis, requiring a higher intake of nutrients such as iron, calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, and vitamin B9 (folate).

Among other things, you need calcium to build healthy bones and teeth, , regulate the hearts rhythm, and ensure your nervous system functions properly. Calcium deficiency can lead to, or exacerbate, mood problems such as irritability, anxiety, depression, and sleep difficulties. If you dont get enough calcium in your diet, your body will take calcium from your bones to ensure normal cell function, which can lead to weakened bones or osteoporosis. Women are at a greater risk than men of developing osteoporosis, so its important to get plenty of calcium, in combination with magnesium and vitamin D, to support your bone health.

Magnesium increases calcium absorption form the blood into the bone. In fact, your body cant utilize calcium without it. The USDA recommended daily allowance for magnesium is 320 to 400 mg/day. Good sources include leafy green vegetables, summer squash, broccoli, halibut, cucumber, green beans, celery, and a variety of seeds.

Vitamin D is also crucial to the proper metabolism of calcium. Aim for 600 IU (international units) daily. You can get Vitamin D from about half an hour of direct sunlight, and from foods such as salmon, shrimp, vitamin-D fortified milk, cod, and eggs.

Some of the best sources of calcium are dairy products. However, dairy products such as whole milk, cheese, and yogurt also tend to contain high levels of saturated fat. The USDA recommends limiting your saturated fat intake to no more than 10% of your daily calories, meaning you can enjoy whole milk dairy in moderation and opt for no- or low-fat dairy products when possible.

If you are planning pregnancy while working eat organic foods and grass-fed or free-range meat and eggs, in order to limit pollutants and pesticides that may interfere with fertility. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and nicotine as they are known to decrease fertility.

‘Were so sorry we cant be there: Alabama veteran dies quarantined from family – AL.com

To those who knew him, Albert Johnson Trousdale was simply known as Johnson.

The Elgin resident was one of the first casualties of the coronavirus pandemic in Alabama. He was 78.

Trousdale died early March 26 at Huntsville Hospital, just five days after he was diagnosed with a confirmed case of COVID-19, his family announced on a Facebook page updating his battle with and effort to recover from the disease.

Johnson went to join Nicky (his late son) in Heaven this morning, the family posted on the Facebook page Thursday. He will be missed by so many people. Please pray for Nancy, Julie, Matt and Nicole.

A 21-year veteran of the United States Army and Alabama National Guard, Trousdale also spent 31 years working for Monsanto in Decatur before retiring.

He also ran a home improvement business for several years and was an active member of Elgin Church of Christ. His son, Matthew, told WAAY 31 last week that Trousdale maintained a pretty healthy lifestyle and ran about 6 miles a day, though he experienced some heart problems in the past and underwent hip replacement surgery in January.

According to his family, Trousdale began running a fever on March 9 and his leg began to swell, but he did not have a cough or exhibit other symptoms of the virus. He was admitted to Huntsville Hospital a week later, when doctors discovered blood clots in his ankle and groin area, with one of them moving to his lungs, resulting in the development of pneumonia.

He was tested for coronavirus on March 19 and put in isolation. That night, he had trouble breathing and was intubated but was resting well the following morning. Two days later, the test results came back; Trousdale tested positive for coronavirus and was in critical but stable condition.

His family chronicled Trousdales battle with the virus over the next several days via the Facebook page, all the while remaining in quarantine themselves.

Its just hard with my daddy up there and we cant be with him, his daughter, Julie Trousdale, told the Times Daily. Thats the hardest part. Were all quarantined and separated. Were just praying and hoping that he makes it up there without anybodys support.

Trousdale was placed on a ventilator and given an experimental drug, according to posts by his family, and he was also placed in a medically induced deep sleep to keep him from fighting the ventilator and trying to out-breathe it. On March 25, Trousdale took a turn for the worst, according to the family.

In Trousdales final moments, a nurse FaceTimed with the family to allow them to say their goodbyes and see what was happening, according to WAAY 31, since they were unable to be by his side in the hospital due to regulations stemming from the contagiousness of the virus.

"I ended up telling him, I said Nancy loves you, Matt loves you, Julie loves you, and I love you, and we're so sorry we can't be there because we wanted one last message," his daughter in-law, Nicole, told WAAY 31.

Trousdale is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Butler Trousdale; his daughter, Julie Ann Trousdale; son, Matthew Zane Trousdale; daughter in-law, Nicole Allen Trousdale; granddaughter, April Nicole Trousdale; sister, Rosa Lee Garcia; brother in-law, Albert Garcia, and too many nieces and nephews to name.

Trousdales family is also urging everyone to abide by social distancing guidelines and do their part to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Please, everyone take it seriously and stay at home, Nicole told the Times Daily last week.

The Inter-American Division (IAD) opened its territory-wide 2020 Health Summit by reminding top regional administrators and health leaders to begin the new decade with a healthy heart dedicated to strengthening the churchs health message across churches and communities.

Nearly 200 administrators and leaders from dozens of IAD countries and islands met in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, January 22-25, 2020, for several days of lectures, workshops, and opportunities for networking among the core group.

Themed Your Brain, Your Body, Your Heart, the four-day event reinforced the need for the physical, mental, and spiritual health necessary for a fruitful health ministry throughout the division territory and beyond.

As leaders, we are committed to educating, serving, and evangelizing, said Belkis Archbold, health ministries director for IAD and main organizer of the event. In essence, the health message has all of these three components, a message from God that we as Seventh-day Adventists received more than 150 years ago to not only have quality of life but a long life, she said.

Its about getting all members involved to promote a healthy lifestyle and share Jesus using the method He established while on earth, Archbold said.

Elie Henry, president of IAD, said the event is part of the start of the year in the territory, holding the banner of health high across the 24 church regions in the division.

We are here because, as church leaders, we are finishing mapping out where we want to go as God's church, Henry said. We are not going to forget our priorities of evangelizing, educating, and serving, as we incorporate those components with an open mind regarding integrated health.

Peter Landless, health ministries director for the Adventist world church, spoke to leaders on the importance of taking care of the heart and historical milestones in the development of cardiological health.Some 17.5 million people die from cardiovascular diseases each year, he said. Experts estimate that by 2030, some 23.6 million people will die annually from cardiovascular disease.

Jesus spent more time healing than preaching, Landless said. We dont have a record that He baptized anyone. We know He healed many, so He left us an example we should follow.

Seventh-day Adventists were given a formula, Landless said as he pointed to the banners displaying eight good-health practices displayed behind him. Theres a knowledge/behavior disconnect.

Are you at risk? How is your heart health? Landless asked. You may think that is very good because you say, I exercise, I watch my diet carefully, I sleep well, I dont smoke or drink alcohol.

Landless touched on the benefits of keeping the heart safe while practicing forgiveness and optimism, knowing that you are loved, enjoying supportive relationships, having a purpose in life, and practicing an attitude of gratitude.

As leaders of the church, we have to lead from the front, share the light we have been shown, Landless said. The best way I can be like Jesus is to minister to the needs of others, just as Jesus Himself did when He was here, he said. He mingled with people, healed them, and then He saved them.

According to the official program, the health summit featured the topics of rest and its benefits; curing high blood pressure in four weeks; diabetes and its risks; depression, mental health and the minister; the Adventist philosophy of diet, nutrition, cancer prevention, and more.

Holly Willoughby weight loss: How did the daytime TV star trim down? – Express.co.uk

Holly Willoughby has had a long career in television, in fact, spanning nearly over 20 years. She is a regular bubble of laughter and positivity on This Morning alongside her TV co-host Philip Schofield. Holly regularly posts images of herself on Instagram looking toned and in shape, and fans have noticed, with several people bombarding the star on a daily basis with asking questions about her incredible weight loss.

However, despite losing weight, and looking noticeably trimmer, the mum-of-three doesnt want to give away too much about her dieting secrets. So, what did she do to trim down?

Holly has notable television credentials to her name including; Dancing on Ice, Celebrity Juice, Im A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! and The Voice.

Over the years, fans of the daytime television star have noticed changes in her frame.

Speaking to Prima Magazine, Holly said: I try not to focus too much on my appearance. As long as Im being healthy, thats good enough for me.

Earlier this year, the television host revealed why she didn't want to talk about her diet plan.

She told the Sunday Times: It's a personal thing for me, and I think people get obsessive with it.

"Everybody knows what leads to a healthy lifestyle, but it's not up to me to give you a blow-by-blow account of what I've eaten that day. It's not helpful, and it's not what's important.

Holly has become slimmer over the past couple of years, after having her third child Chester in 2014.

Despite keeping tight lipped about her slim figure, a TV source spoke out to shed some light on Hollys diet.

The source told The Mirror: Holly is determined to keep her new-look body so she eats chicken, carrots and hummus.

The source, however, did reveal that Holly has a sweet tooth and occasionally can be spotted tucking into one particular sweet treat to calm her cravings.

Youll never see her without a pack of mango either, to satisfy her sweet tooth, they added.

The source added that Holly has rediscovered herself after adopting a new healthy lifestyle: "She says she's discovered a 'new me' and won't be giving up anytime soon."

As well as following a diet plan, Lynne Robinson, director of London-based Body Control Pilates, has explained she worked with the star on her exercise routine.

I worked with Holly for several months, teaching her privately at her home once a week, she told The Sun.

Holly had postnatal matt work classes which concentrated on strengthening and toning her core.

While she has remained tight-lipped about just how she is doing it, her Celebrity Juice co-star Keith Lemon wasn't quite so secretive.

Keith Lemon revealed her trim figure was down to boxing.

Africas biggest cattle company has agreed to withdraw an ad which says a healthy lifestyle should involve a daily helping of beef.

Karan Beef, with 150,000 cattle on its farm in Heidelberg, south of Johannesburg, made the pledge in response to two complaints to the advertising watchdog.

Nicola Millson and Peter de Fouw wrote to the Advertising Regulatory Board after seeing a Karan newspaper ad that said: Want a healthy lifestyle? Make beef part of your daily diet.

Millson said the International Agency for Research on Cancer, part of the World Health Organisation (WHO), had warned that red meat was probably carcinogenic to humans.

Furthermore, the WHO states that the risk of colorectal cancer could increase by 17% for every 100g portion of red meat eaten daily, she said.

De Fouw told the watchdog it was a medically proven fact that red meat causes cancer.
