Rush Bowls to offer healthy alternatives at the Downtown Phoenix campus – The State Press

Rush Bowls, which offers healthy and quick aa bowls and smoothies, is projected to open on the first floor of the Cronkite building at the Downtown Phoenix campus around early March.

The restaurant, founded in 2004, has 26 other locations across 15 states with over 120 more locations on the way. Rush Bowls is one of many brands in a growing market of stores geared toward offering popular health foods like aa bowls.

Husband and wife duo Ted and Elizabeth Bachmeier are co-owners of the new Phoenix store. They own two other Rush Bowls locations in Texas and wanted to expand to Phoenix, where they hope to eventually retire.

Ted Bachmeier said opening a store in Phoenix will give them the chance to cater to a specific audience.

We do best around college kids and young professionals so (we) wanted to be downtown or near Tempe, Ted Bachmeier said. (Our broker) found four or five sites and this is the one we liked the most and this is what we decided to do.

The menu includes around 40 bowls and smoothies that are full meal replacements and typically contain less than 500 calories each. Ted Bachmeier said the store can also adapt its menu items to fit specific dietary needs like keto, wheat-free and soy-free.

It's a very healthy option with all kinds of nutrients in it ... so they hopefully get a fast, friendly environment with good, healthy food that matches their restrictions and helps to lead a healthy lifestyle, Ted Bachmeier said.

Some students who attend ASU's Downtown Phoenix campus said healthy dining options are generally lacking, and the few existing choices are too expensive to take advantage of regularly.

Olivia Cosmi, a freshman studying criminology, said she eats the same things at the Taylor Place dining hall almost every day. The daily meal swipe she is allotted gives her a limited amount of appealing choices, she said.

I feel like there could be a bigger variety of food because it's almost the same food where the pasta section is and everything is almost the same every day, Cosmi said.

She said she likes the idea of having healthier and more affordable options close to campus, especially if they accept Maroon and Gold dollars.

One (restaurant) that would really blow up is one that offers M&G as well, because I only get one meal a day here so a lot of my food is from using M&G and that would honestly be a much healthier alternative for me, Cosmi said.

Ted Bachmeier said that because of qualifications and applications, it could take around 60 days after the store opens to know whether his location will one day accept M&G as a form of payment. He said he is confident the store will accept M&G in the future.

Janae Wade, a freshman studying community health, wants to see more healthy options around the Downtown Phoenix campus and, regardless of payment methods, is looking forward to trying Rush Bowls when it opens.

My friends and I were just doing a fasting thing last week, so that would be perfect for me to try, Wade said. I just want healthier options.

Rush Bowls will cater events, and Ted Bachmeier said he and Elizabeth Bachmeier hope to get involved in the Phoenix community.

My wife has a huge heart for giving and giving back, Ted Bachmeier said. So we do a ton of philanthropy type efforts down in Dallas, so anything that we can help with and can help partner with people, we'd love to do that too.

Deadly Greene County shooting involves stunt woman, her husband and ex – Dayton Daily News

MIAMI TWP., GREENE COUNTY

The Greene County shooting that left two people dead Wednesday outside a million dollar home near Yellow Springs involved an ex-husband who allegedly fatally shot his former Hollywood stunt woman ex-wife and her current husband.

FIRST REPORT:Shootout near Yellow Springs could have been ambush, sheriff says

Greene County officials declined to name the resident who allegedly shot and killed the two people who reportedly came onto his property with guns and who were using a camera system to monitor activity there.

They did identify the residents ex-wife as Cheryl Sanders, who was a celebrity spokeswoman and stunt woman who appeared on the cover of Healthy Living Magazine.

Her current husband, Robert Reed Sanders, also was killed in the shooting.

Cheryl Sanders wrote online that she moved from martial arts and kickboxingto a career as a stunt womanin the 1980s.

She said was the stunt double for Brooke Shields, Sharon Stone and other A-list actresses.

She doubled for Rene Russo in The Thomas Crown Affair and the Lethal Weapon series, jumped into a speedboat for Kathleen Turner in V.I. Warshawski and flew into the courthouse window in Back to the Future Part II, according to the Denver Post.

A 20-foot fall on the set of Back to the Future Part II brought her Hollywood career to a halt in 1989, according to the Denver Post. The bones in her face, right arm and hand were shattered when she hit the concrete after a cable was released during a flying stunt.

She later returned to Hollywood after changing to a healthy lifestyle that included supplements and diet changes. She did stunt double work for Jessica Alba in 2016.

Robert Reed Sanders had been licensed in real estate in Texas. Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer said Thursday the man had a criminal record, but he did not elaborate.

Helpers: Volunteer Regina Rocca determined to pay it forward after mom’s cancer treatment – Sudbury.com

Regina Rocca so appreciated the care and support her mother received at the Northeast Cancer Centre that she was inspired to give back to the organization in a tangible way.

My family has been directly impacted by the disease, said Rocca, whose mother lost three siblings to cancer.

Being the primary caregiver during her moms own treatment for cancer really brought home to Rocca just how vital the treatment centre is to patients and their loved ones.

I wanted to make a meaningful difference to others facing the same challenges, she said. Thats when I made a solemn promise to myself to become a cancer volunteer when I could dedicate significant time and effort to the organization.

Rocca and her husband Jack have three adult children, Natalie, Gregory and Marty.

Growing up, the boys were in karate and hockey, while their daughter took dance. They all played musical instruments.

For years Jack and I scheduled our free time around driving the kids to music lessons and festivals, sports practices and tournaments, and to dance classes and recitals, she said.

Raising a young family was a wonderfully busy time for these working parents; at the time, Rocca was a high school teacher, while Jack is a local realtor.

When the kids were elementary school age, Rocca became very involved with Our Lady of Hope Parish, preparing children for first communion and confession. She has remained an active church volunteer for well over 20 years.

I think that especially as a teacher you get very involved working with people. Teachers are committed to improving students lives through education and after-school activities, she said. I know so many teachers who are volunteers in our community. Giving back is a natural by-product of that profession.

Once Rocca retired from teaching at Lockerby Composite School, she was ready to fulfill the promise she had made to herself several years before to become a dedicated cancer volunteer. The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) Sudbury and District welcomed her with open arms and a broad job description.

Over more than a decade at the CCS, Rocca has worn many hats, handling everything from administrative tasks and making phone calls to conducting training for volunteer drivers and helping organize fundraisers.

Ive particularly enjoyed taking part in annual events like CIBCs Run for the Cure, Relay for Life where I run the boutique, the 5K Mudmoiselle obstacle run, and the Teddy Bear Picnic in partnership with Cambrian Colleges police foundations program, she said.

In more recent years, Roccas extensive knowledge and positive attitude have evolved into more of a public relations role. She has disseminated information at numerous CCS events and given inspiring presentations at places of business in order to enhance awareness about cancer and the essential programs offered by the Cancer Society.

She brings such a clear message of hope: People tend to be terrified of the word cancer but its no longer something to be afraid of, Rocca said. The CCS funds significant research that has generated so many positive outcomes.

She added that, in the last decade alone, there has been incredible progress achieved in research, discoveries and cures. Todays survival rates are so encouraging. Some childhood and breast cancers now have significantly higher success rates.

Positive results like this help people feel much less afraid and more confident they can survive cancer, Rocca said, adding, I meet people every day who have overcome the disease.

Roccas words of wisdom reflect her commitment to increasing public awareness about topics like breast health, tobacco cessation, sun sense and healthy eating: Cancer truly can be beaten. What we all need to do is educate ourselves about the disease and the signs, be dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle, eat well and have regular health check-ups.

Miranda Kerr Told Me So Many Life and Beauty SecretsHere Are the Top 14 – Yahoo Lifestyle

Miranda Kerr's passion for skincareand theneed for educationand clarity on themurkiness of the "clean" product subsethits me with a near blunt force. Yes, Kerr is one of the most recognizable and admired supermodels of our era, but first and foremost, she's a mom (she tells me it's her top priority, after all), and second, she's the CEO of one of the loveliest yetmost discerning organic skincare-and-makeup brands in the industry right now. And no, this isn't just me being a doting beauty editor; it's a cold, hard fact.

In light ofthe newest launch from Kerr's Australian-inspired skincare brand, Kora Organicsa dew- and glow-gifting resurfacing serum that will transform your face into a majestic moonbeam in record timeI had the chance to chat with Kerr about all things beauty. Not only about the magic behind the newNoni Night AHA Resurfacing Serum ($72) but also about her beauty-and-wellnessapproach as a whole. Not surprisingly, I also learned a whole lot about Kora's core values and product development process in addition to the inspiration behind each launch.

"Using organic skincare is something I'm very passionate about because our skin is our largest organ, and what you put on it soaks directly into your bloodstream, so that's why it's important to use clean, toxin-free, organic products," Kerr tells me. "People are increasingly concerned with eating organic, working out, and living a healthy lifestyle, but many people forget that there are lots of chemicals and toxins in the products they are using on their skin day in, day out."

As it turns out, Kerr was way ahead of the clean beauty movement that's gained steady ground in the past few years stateside. Shestarted Kora in her home country of Australia back in 2009, and it was slow yet steady burn until the brand eventually launched in U.S. Sephora stores in 2017. (Now, in case you're wondering, Kora is available in over 30 countries.)

"When I initially started Kora back in Australia, it was because I was looking for products that werecertified organic and delivered results, but I was unable to find anything that really worked. Eventually, I just decided to create my own range," she explains.

So much more than a "clean" label, Kora is a true, certified, organic beauty brand, Kerr says, acknowledging the grand misconception that organic products or ingredients are largely seen as less effective or powerful when used within skincare and makeup.

"I believe certified organic ingredients are more powerful," she counteracts. "Not only are the crops we source our ingredients from not being sprayed with chemicals, pesticide, and herbicides, but the soil that's used is far more nutrient-dense and not depleted by continual growth and harvest." This is insurance, she tells me, that the ingredients will naturally be higher in antioxidants and thus produce more impressive results within your beauty or skin routine.

"To me, it's a no-brainer. There are so many things in this world we can't control. For instance, we can't control the pollution levels outside, but we can control what we put on our skin to protect it from those everyday environmental aggressors that age and sensitize our skin."

For the new night serum, Kerr tells me she worked with the lab and organic chemists for roughly 18 months. (Spoiler: There's also another new product on the horizon, but she's not allowed to share details yetstay tuned!)

"I am so, so proud of theNoni Night AHA Resurfacing Serum ($72) and its performance, and I feel so blessed to be working with the best organic chemists in the world. It's so important to me that we get the formula, consistency, and, most importantly, the resultsthe best they can absolutely be."

Of course, our chat didn't stop there. Keep scrolling for14 more important pieces of beauty intel I learned from Kerr.

Making (or even just thinking about) the switch to a natural beauty routine can seem overwhelming. There are so many different monikers the industry likes to throw at us as consumers (natural, green, nontoxic, organic), and being able to discern what's actually clean and what's actually going to be an effective, amazing product feels nearly impossible. So I asked Kerr to dish any advice she has for someone who's looking to make some changes.

"The first thing I would say is to do your research to ensure what you are buying is exactly what it is," Kerr warns gently. "There is a lot ofgreenwashing in the beauty industry because it is unregulated. Brands can claim to be natural or organic by just having one or two natural or organic ingredients. Having the Cosmos-Standard AISBL/Ecocertcertification gives our brand integrity. Our customers have the assurance that they are getting exactly what they are paying for: honest, healthy, nontoxic certified organic products.

"I can only speak for Kora Organics, but I would encourage people to make the switch. You'll be amazed at the results. We have some of the worlds leading organic chemists working on our formulas and identifying new high-potency, high-performance ingredients so our products deliver the same if not better results."

Kora Organics Noni Night AHA Resurfacing Serum ($72)

"Our new Noni NightAHAResurfacing Serum is a powerful certified organic night treatment serum that uses naturalAHAs, BHA, and ferments to resurface your skin and increase cellular turnover, leaving you with a smoother more refined complexion," Kerr tells me. "I've been using it every night for the last few months, and my skin feels amazing. My pores are noticeably smaller, my pigmentation spots are almost gone, and my skin feels super smooth. I'm obsessed!"

Kerr also gives me intel that she's not just being biased. The brand conducted consumer studies, and 91% of testers reported smaller-looking pores, reduced hyperpigmentation, and a more "youthful" looking complexion.

Kora Organics Noni Glow Face Oil ($68)

"This is our signature product," Kerr gushes. "It contains certified organic noni extract, rose-hip oil, pomegranate oil, and sea buckthorn oil to create a rich source of antioxidants and essential fatty acids to smooth, nourish, hydrate, and brighten your skin."

Kora Organics Turmeric 2-in-1 Brightening & Exfoliating Mask ($48)

"I'm obsessed with exfoliating and face masks, so I wanted to create a product that could be used as both a physical exfoliator and arevitalizing mask," says Kerr. "I essentially wanted a product that delivered a post-spa facial glow that can be done at home or when traveling in one simple step and in under10 minutes. It contains natural AHAs from papaya enzymes and aspen bark to stimulate cell renewal, as well as rose-hip seeds and quartz to polish and peppermint to control sebum production and for an invigorating tingle."

She tells me she loves to use it in the shower every other morning as a quick and easy mask and exfoliating ritual, applying it and then letting it work its magic while she washes her hair and shaves her legs.

Before diving into her daily morning routine, Kerr tells me that first and foremost, she always dry-brushes her entire body before hopping in the shower, sharing that it's her top secret for getting the circulation going and removing any dead skin cells.

Goop G. Tox Ultimate Dry Brush ($20)

"My general skincare routine in the morning is the Kora OrganicsFoaming Cleanser ($30). It's a soap-free cleanser containing noni extract, green tea, and aloe vera to gently cleanse without drying or stripping the skin of its natural oils. After cleansing, I use theEnergizing Citrus Mist ($34) to tone my skin and then apply theNoni Bright Vitamin C Serum ($68) and the Noni Radiant Eye Oil($38). To finish, I'll add a few drops ofNoni Glow Face Oil ($68) to a few pumps of theHydrating Moisturizer ($48) and apply the combination over my face, neck, and dcolletage."

"In the evenings, I double-cleanse to ensure any makeup and/or pollution is removed from my skin, and I like to use ourCream Cleanser ($30). It contains aloe vera, avocado, and macadamia nu
t oil, so it's very nourishing and soothing.

"Then, I'll reach for theCalming Lavender Mist ($34), which I also love to spritz on my pillow before going to sleep! Following this, I apply a few pumps of the newNoni Night Serum ($72) on my face, neck, and dcolletage. Then I apply my moisturizer, eye oil, and my face oil just as I do in the morning.

"As my last step in the evening, I like to apply myNoni Glow Sleeping Mask ($48). I know it might sound like a lot, but all the steps are super quick and simple, and the results areso worth it! My skin has literally never felt or looked better, and I'm barely getting any sleep these days with my three boys, especially the two under 2," she laughs.

Kora Organics Rose Quartz Heart Facial Gua Sha ($58)

When I press Kerr for additional secrets as to her amazing complexion, she tells me using thisRose Quartz Heart Facial Gua Sha ($58) every day has made a huge difference in reducing puffiness and lending her signature glow. "It harnesses theancient healing technique known as gua sha. It's arose-quartz heart-shaped stone used to massage your face and neck to stimulate circulation and reduce puffiness while lifting, toning, and sculptingyourface. I use this technique daily for a five-minute facial massage with and combine it with theNoni Glow Face Oil ($68), which helps the hydration and nutrients absorb deeper and more efficiently intoyour skin."

Kora Organics Noni Glow Face Oil ($68)

RMS Beauty Un Cover-Up Concealer/Foundation ($36)

"When I wear makeup, I generally like to keep it clean and simple unless it's for a special event or red carpet," says Kerr. "My go-to natural makeup brand is RMS Beauty. It was created by a makeup artist and friend of mine. I love the brand'sUn Coverup Concealer in 22 ($36)."

Kerr's expert application tip? Apply one or two drops of facial oilinto the RMS pot, and use a makeup brush to buff the mixture into your complexion for a sheer wash of coverage and radiance.

Kora Organics Crystal Luminizer in Rose Quartz ($28)

"Then, I apply myKora OrganicsRose Quartz Luminizer ($28) on the top of my brows and cheekbones. It contains finely crushed rose quartz to create a beautiful highlight and add a little magic!"

Kora Organics Noni Lip Tint ($24)

"Lastly, I use myNoni Lip Tint ($24) to add a subtle touch of color to my lips and apples of mycheeks and curl my lashes to open up the eyes."

"I love Reiki facials. Not only are they really calming and relaxing, but combining Reiki into your facials also helps naturally relax the muscles in your face and soften expression lines, leaving ahealthy glow of vitality. In L.A., I see Nousha, who incorporates Reiki and a gua sha face massage technique," she says.

For those days when she can't go in for such a luxe treatment, Kerr says simply keeping a luxurious face mist on her desk can work wonders if she needs to clear her mind, and the blend of essential oils and aromatherapy can also provide the ultimate mood boost.

Kora Organics Energizing Citrus Mist ($34)

Since she truly does it all (CEO, model, mom), I had to ask Kerr about any helpful life or beauty advice she's absorbed and taken in along the wayin addition to what she'd share with her younger self.

"I received some advice from my grandmother growing up that has always stayed with me," she shares, "and it was to hold yourself with grace and gratitudeto smile from within and to let your light shine because having this intention radiates beauty.

"Looking back to when I was younger, I wish I could tell my younger self the importance of not comparing yourself to othersto focus on the beauty within. Positive affirmation and meditation both play an integral part in my life now."

When I asked what a typical day in the life is like, she explains that since giving birth to her third son, it's all a little up in the air, and she pretty much has to be ready for everything. However, an early 5:30 a.m. wake-up call followed by a quick meditation is nonnegotiable.

"I usually wake uparound5:30 a.m. when Evan getsup. This gives me a chance to do my meditation while he is in the shower and the kids are still asleep. I love it when I'm able to meditateatsunrise. It's such a special time of day.

"Whenthe kidswake up,we all have breakfast togetherand getFlynn's bag and lunch packed for school. Once I've dropped Flynn off at school, I would normally head to our Kora Organics office, but at the moment, I'mmostlyworking from home. You'd be surprised by how much you can get done via phone, email, and video conferences!" she laughs.

"I try to schedule my work during Hart's and Myles's nap times so I can spend quality time with them when they're awake. Being a mother is my first priority. When Flynn's homefrom school in the afternoons, weusually like to do some type of activity together. We love to have an early dinner together as a family. Then it's bath and bedtime routines for the kids. Once they are asleep, it's time for my husband and me to unwind and catch up."

Kora Organics Noni Glow Body Oil ($58)

"Everyone's skin changes over time, and I've noticed several changes in my skin as I have gone through my 20s, into motherhood, and now into my mid-30s," Kerr shares after I ask about the biggest changes she had to make to her beauty and wellness routines during her pregnancies and since becoming a mother.

"With all three of my pregnancies, I've experienced pigmentation, so I developed products to address those concernstheTurmeric 2-in-1 Brightening & Exfoliating Mask ($48), theNoni BrightVitamin C Serum ($68), and the newNoni Night AHA Resurfacing Serum ($72). These three products together have given me amazing results.

"For body, during pregnancy and post-birth, I used a combination of theNoni Glow Body Oil ($58) and theEnriched Body Lotion ($55) all over to assist and support my skin as it stretches to accommodate my growing baby. I apply the mixture twice daily all over, and then on my belly, breasts, and hips, I also apply a layer ofNoni Glow Body Balm ($34), as I feel those areas need a little more TLC and hydration."

Kora Organics Enriched Body Lotion ($55)

"Being a busy mum and working across different time zones, I'm often sleep-deprived, and my skin suffers, so I apply theNoni GlowSleepingMask every other night to help give the illusion of a full night's sleep," Kerr tells me.

"It'sa multitaskingovernightfacemaskthat's more hydrating and restorative than a regular night cream. It contains silver ear mushroom, coconut milk, caviar lime, Kakadu plum, and natural hyaluronic acid, which really plumps the skin; softens fine lines; reduces redness and inflammation; improves cell renewal, tone, and texture; and boosts radiance and luminosity. I use it as the last step in my routine before I go tobed, and there's no need to wash it off until the morning because it dries as a translucent veil, it locks in the moisture, and it won't rub off on your pillow!"

Kora Organics Noni Glow Sleeping Mask ($48)

Kerr let me in on one of her best wellness and nutrition secrets: Every morning on an empty stomach, she drinks celery juice. "I drink at least 16 ounces of organic, cold-pressedceleryjuice," she says right off the bat.

"Celeryis amazing, as it's a powerful anti-inflammatory, supports kidney function, and is alkalizing and also full of electrolytes. I feel it really helps my digestion, brain fog, and energy levels."

Sakara Life Daily Probiotic Blend ($46)

"I'm a fan of looking after gut health, so I also take pre- and probiotics," says Kerr. "Prebiotics are a special form of dietary fiber that act as a fertilizer for the good bacteria in your gut.Probiotics, however, are live bacteria that can be found in yogurt and other fermented foods."

Kerr didn't tell me exactly which supplement she takes, but I personally swear by these easy capsules from Sakara, which boast prebiotics, probiotics, and digestive enzymes.

Kora Organics Noni Glow Skinfood Dietary Supplement Powder ($55)

"As a combination sup
plement, I created Kora OrganicsNoni Glow SkinfoodSupplement ($55), a water-soluble superfood powder packaged into single-serve sachets, so it's perfect for traveling and contains all my essential vitamins and minerals from coni, aa, blueberry, mangosteen, pomegranate, matcha green tea, rose hip, chlorella, and elderberry flower.

"I love this product because it's easy to use on the go and provides me with an extra boost of energy whenever I need it."

He had stroke and together they made a commitment to turn their lives around, one healthy choice at a time – News 5 Cleveland

CLEVELAND A new study from the Cleveland Clinic shows 83% of people with partners agree, if their partner adopted a healthy lifestyle, they would join.

However, about two out of three surveyed said they enable or are enabled by their partners unhealthy healthy habits.

Two-thirds of people are concerned about their partners health.

Kevin and Lisa Jackson are proof that supporting each other to live a healthy lifestyle, can change both lives.

The two have been married for almost 20 years. Theyve been through lifes ups and downs.

Back in February of last year, I had a stroke, said Kevin.

The stroke stemmed from atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rhythm.

Lisa said it was scary.

I did think I was going to lose him, she said.

The stroke was a wake up call for Kevin. He said he knew he had to take the steps towards a healthier lifestyle.

We really focused on his extra weight that he had, and how we can make and take manageable steps to really help control that and bring it down, said Dr. Luke Laffin with the Cleveland Clinic.

Kevin took the advice to heart, but Lisa did, too. They made a lifestyle change together.

We pretty much do everything together, anyways, said Lisa.

They changed their diet.

I basically ate everything before, said Kevin.

Dr. Laffin recommended a Mediterranean diet. One that is high in plant-based protein, fish and whole grains.

My wife is an excellent cook and that helps out a whole lot, said Kevin.

They also started going to the gym on a regular basis.

We walk for about 55 minutes. We usually get in about 2 and a half miles, 3 to 4 times a week, said Lisa. Some days he doesnt feel like walking and I say come on, come on! I gotta get these pounds off.

They stayed faithful to their commitments.

Oh, we dont let one another cheat, said Kevin.

Since his stroke, Kevin has lost 35 pounds and Lisa lost 25 pounds.

Dr. Laffin said their dedication to each other is the key to their success.

If you have someone who is at home smoking or just sitting on the couch watching television, ordering fast food again, that makes it really difficult to undertake lifestyle choices, particularly, in someone who needs to with cardiovascular disease, said Dr. Laffin.

For the Jacksons, theres no going back.

I feel great. I feel better than Ive felt in years, said Kevin. We are going to make this journey together.

Dr. Laffin said if your partner is reluctant to help you out with your diet or exercise goals, but your doctor recommends it for your health, bring them to your doctors appointment with you so the healthcare professional can explain it to them.

Healthy living: What are you waiting for | Opinions – The Capital Journal

Many years ago, I was listening to a CD one day. It may be shocking that in this day in age it wasnt a cassette tape or 8-track. As I recall, one of the tracks is mainly instrumental, however I noticed that, about 30 seconds in to the song, there were some faint lyrics in the background. Curious, I skipped back and listened more closely to try and hear it. Sure enough there were five words very faintly spoken.

They were what are you waiting for. Hmmmm. Just what am I waiting for?

If you need a written invitation, then here it is. I personally invite you to get up and start making healthy lifestyle changes. There it is. Post it on your fridge if you want, I dont care. Do what you have to do, right now, no more excuses.

Speaking of excuses and there are plenty of them lets take a look at some major reasons people use when it comes to fitness. Sit back and relax, this is going to be fun.

I dont have time to exercise.

Of course you dont, who does. We all lead super hectic lives with rarely anytime to relax and when we do have time to relax its obviously seeing what will happen to baby Yoda or whoever the little guy is is up too. This must be a legit excuse then, right? The bottom line is that if you dont prioritize your life now, then you wont be able to accomplish the things you want to do later. Life isnt much fun if your health is sub-average. Think of it this way, exercising 30 minutes is only 2 percent of your day. Keep in mind that while exercise may take a little bit of your time, it will make time as well.

I have no energy to exercise.

There are a couple of different angles to this. If you sit around and watch movies all day then of course you will feel lazy. On the flip side, what about those people who work 30 hours a day you say, thus leaving them without time to eat or sleep, surely they should be exempt from exercising, right? Exercise has been shown to increase energy levels and leave people feeling better about themselves and more energized. Just because you work hard every day, does not replace an exercise routine combining cardio, strength and nutrition.

I bet you are not. While many people may feel like they have more years behind them than in front of them, there is no better time to start exercising than today. Exercise will actually make your body younger at any age.

Its easy to make up excuses and put off living a healthy life. Becoming a better you starts now, so what are you waiting for. You owe it to yourself.

Aaron Fabel, B.A in Exercise Science and Wellness, is the CEO at the Oahe Family YMCA.

How You Can Live Healthy With Hiv – New Vision

At 16, Ndagire was an innocent beautiful minor. She was kidnapped by a defiler, who drove her 100 miles away and held her hostage in his bungalow. For four days, the kidnapper defiled her repeatedly.

So what if you are HIV positive? You cannot undo what has already happened. If you are HIV-positive, you cannot reverse your positive status, can you?

Experts say remain positive for life. There was a time when an HIV diagnosis was a suspended death sentence. Not anymore. You still have a long productive life ahead of you and you can live a healthy life with HIV.

This is only possible if you adopt a lifestyle to delay the onset of AIDS. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS, so being HIV-positive means the virus is in your blood. When you start falling sick often, then you have developed Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

NDAGIRES STORY Dorcas Ndagire has lived long with HIV because she has learnt to live passively and refused to interpret her condition as terminal. At 16, Ndagire was an innocent beautiful minor. She was kidnapped by a defiler, who drove her 100 miles away and held her hostage in his bungalow.

For four days, the kidnapper defiled her repeatedly, leaving her for dead. A year later, just 17, after having an on and off fever, sweating a lot at night, having a bad skin rash, coupled with persistent diarrhoea, Ndagire was forced to take an HIV test, which showed she was positive.

The tormenter had infected her with the dreaded virus! Her dreams were shattered. After four years, she became critically sick. There were times when the sickness was in remission and her life seemed normal, when she would really forget the truth, or simply just refuse to believe it.

But time came when she slipped back into multiple infections. She had developed AIDS. Ndagire had to be admitted at Mulago Hospital for months. She painfully struggled with the sickness for three years until all she wanted was to die. She thought it was the only death that could set her free and take away her pain. But TASO always clung to her even in her desperate condition.

Today, over 30 years since she received her death sentence, life is going on well for Ndagire and she can afford to reminisce about her ordeal with nostalgia. She is an irrefutable example of health and vitality and she demonstrates no trace of her former condition. People who saw me where I was admitted for over a year can testify that a miracle truly happened.

I am completely free from AIDS and I have gone from frightened victim to an HIV dissident and a spokesperson for new views about HIV/ AIDS, Ndagire says. She attributes her good health and long life to positive living.

There are several things one can do to stay healthy and live longer and these are the things that longterm survivors like Maj. Rubaramira Ruranga have done, to stay healthy for as long as 20-30 years or more after getting infected with the HIV virus.

It is about not infecting others as well as not re-infecting yourself. It is also about having a positive attitude and a healthy lifestyle. Granted, finding out that you have HIV is not easy because it is scary and can torment you.

This is natural. The knowledge that you are HIV-positive is a transition. It is starting a new life where you must learn how to cope and focus on what is most important.

POSITIVE LIVING In the same way, when you are HIV-positive, you must learn how to cope with your new status and how to live with it. That is what is called Positive Living or Living Positively with HIV. It is a term used to describe steps taken by people living with HIV that enhance their lives and improve their health.

The importance of positive living is that it prolongs the productive lives of individuals infected with HIV, making it possible for them to contribute to the well-being of their families. It also helps to decrease discrimination and pauperization, which can make surviving family members more vulnerable to HIV.

Similarly, increasing investments in education, care, social support and general development efforts within affected communities strengthen their capacity to respond to the epidemic. However, you can still live a good and normal life as long as you adhere to positive living.

We have lost people who would still be with us if they lived more responsibly. Acceptance How you got the virus is not important. What is important is your present, tomorrow and treatment. Stop dwelling on the past since you cannot reverse what has already happened.

Work with your feelings, avoid denial and accept your new status. Anti-retroviral drugs For those on ARVs, it is important to know that these anti-HIV drugs are not a cure, but improve the quality of life. They are a life-time commitment and you have to take them for the rest of your life, even after your viral load has reduced to undetectable levels.

It is crucial to adhere to the drug regiment religiously for them to help you and avoid resistant strains of HIV. If you miss a dose; take it as soon as you remember. But if you realise when you are about to take your next dose, do not take a double dose.

No other medicines Do not take any other medicine without consulting your doctor first. Consult the doctor even if you are going to take herbal medicine. Some drugs may react with the ARVs.

Sex The principle is to practice safe sex to avoid re-infection. Even when on ARVs, you can still infect others.Make sure your partner is tested. You must not risk having unprotected sex. Use a condom if you must or abstain.

Medical When ill, seek medical attention immediately. Never treat yourself and make sure you seek proper medication. Treat all the opportunistic infections and adhere to the times of required tests, such as liver and kidney function tests.

Balanced diet If you are on ARVs, you need a balanced diet. It must have bodybuilding, repairing and energy-giving foods to boost the bodys ability to fight diseases. The quality of feeding significantly influences the success of ARVs by reducing side-effects, improving drug effectiveness and general health.

Some people skip drugs whenever they have no food because the drugs are strong and can be torturous on an empty stomach. It is important to drink plenty of clean and boiled water.

Hygiene Practice proper hygiene. Wash your hands often, especially before meals and after using the toilet.

Exercise Exercise to keep the body active and avoid being overweight. You should have sensible and quality leisure that builds you.

Habits Avoid leisure that strains your energy, such as smoking and alcohol. Smoking damages the lungs and many other parts of the body, making it easier for infections to attack your body. Consuming alcohol is harmful to the body, especially the liver, it increases vulnerability to infections and destroys vitamins in the body.

Spiritual Have a motivation to live on, keep faith in God and pray and seek pastoral counselling. With counselling and love, you can beat all difficult times.

Only about a quarterof the people who start a diet and exercise plan stick with their resolutions for more than a month. Experts atThe Ohio State University Veterinary Medical CenterandThe Ohio State University Wexner Medical Centersay that partnering with your pet when implementing healthy habits can be a great way to find motivation and make you both happier and healthier.

A balanced diet and regular exercise are extremely important for pets, just like they are for humans, and many of the health benefits of a healthy lifestyle are the same said Arielle Markley, a veterinarian in theCanine Physical Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine Centerat Ohio State Veterinary Medical Center.

Markley acknowledges that there are many creative ways to get active with your pet, such as dog yoga, dog Pilatesand couch-to-5K programs, but she urges people to start slowly. Just as someone shouldnt run a full marathon without training, the same holds true for pets. Its important to introduce an exercise routine slowly, especially if petshavent been active. When starting a diet and exercise plan with your pet, Markley says to rememberPAWS:

Liz Weinandy, a registered dietitian at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, acknowledges that change can be hard but says forming a partnership with your pet could be the motivation you need.

Making a commitment to your pet to go for a walk every single day means that youre not only making those changes for yourself, but now also for your pet. We know that the numerous health benefits from embracing a healthier lifestyle, like weight loss, better sleepand overall enhanced mental health, can translate to your pet as well, Weinandy said.

Both experts stress the importance of getting clearance from your doctor and veterinarian before starting any diet and exercise program. Its important to make sure that there arent any other health conditions that might keep either of you from your goals and to have a plan that is tailored to your individual needs.
