Richard Branson may have plans to launch the first privately manned space flight this year, but at $250,000 (148,400) a ticket, Virgin space travel wont come cheap.

For those desperate to get a taste of the experience, Swiss Space Systems (S3) has just launched what it claims will be the world's cheapest ZeroG flights.

With prices starting at 2,000 (1,600; $2,700), the flight will see passengers experience 20 to 25 seconds of weightlessness each time the plane transitions from climbing to descending.

Red Shirts cornered as army stifles dissent

Bangkok: With leaders rounded up and soldiers deployed in their rural heartlands, Thailands Red Shirts have gone to ground but experts say they will regroup against the militarys toppling of the government they helped elect.

The red-clad street protest movement, established in the wake of a 2006 coup to rally support for ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra, has warned that the kingdoms long-running political conflict could descend into civil war.

The Red Shirts say they have been hit hard by a crackdown since army chief Prayut Chan-O-Cha deposed the Thaksin-allied government last Thursday and seized wide-ranging powers.

Several activists told AFP they have been hemmed in by a big army presence, detentions and closures of influential local radio stations used to spread their pro-Thaksin message.

There are no leaders, said Aporn Sarakham, a former senator and the wife of Kwanchai Pripana, a hardline Red Shirt from north-eastern Thailand detained by the army on Friday.

The movements hierarchy from the firebrand protest leaders to local village heads are being held or harassed or have gone to ground to avoid detention.

The Red Shirts do not know what to do... we have to wait and see what the army does and what our leaders in other provinces and districts say, Amnuay Boontee, a Red Shirt co-ordinator in Buriram province, told AFP by telephone.

Phone lines have also been cut, according to the activists. Calls by AFP to several other leading Red Shirts could not be connected.

In our hearts we are against the coup but people are scared, said a Red Shirt leader who requested anonymity. All of our leaders are detained.

People are sitting and talking about it, but things are quiet.

California shooting: Elliot Rodger's massacre could have been stopped by cops

Twisted Elliott Rodger revealed in his chilling manifesto how police almost thwarted his killing spree.

His worried family had called officers terrified about this state of mind after seeing video rants where he expressed his hatred of women.

But police only questioned him on his doorstep and missed the chance to search his room and find his cache of weapons and ammo.

Rodger described the encounter in his 141-page manifesto.

He wrote: The police interrogated me outside for a few minutes, asking me if I had suicidal thoughts. I tactfully told them that it was all a misunderstanding, and they finally left.

If they had demanded to search my room... That would have ended everything.

For a few horrible seconds I thought it was all over. When they left, the biggest wave of relief swept over me. It was so scary.

Rodger, 22, wrote how he took the YouTube videos down and planned to upload them again a few days before his Day of Retribution.

He went on: For the next few days, I felt extremely fearful that they could show up anytime. I kept one of my handguns with a few loaded magazines near me just in case such a thing did happen.

If they did show up, I would have to try to quickly shoot them all and escape out the back window. I would then have to perform a hasty mockery of my plans, with the police on my tail. That will ruin everything.
