Statue of Louis Pasteur by Cook County Hospital
As you get off the Blue line Medical Center stop one of the first things you notice is Cook County Hospital on the south side. In front of it you can see the large statue of Louis Pasteur. One of the founding fathers of modern medicine. Statue created by Leon Hermant in 1928 it was originally located in Grant Park but was moved here in 1946. This is the first stop on our visit to Chicago #39;s Taylor Street / Little Italy area. It was once a thriving immigrant community until the construction of two highways and the expansion of the U of I and Rush hospital displaced many of the original residents. A hundred years ago Taylor street was a slum now it #39;s home to trendy restaurants and bars. We are presenting a series of videos exploring some of it #39;s past. At the end of this video there will be a link to a statue of Christopher Columbus not far away.From:ChiTownViewViews:1 1ratingsTime:03:34More inPeople Blogs
