Medicine Hat mayor charged with impaired driving

Ted Clugston, the mayor of Medicine Hat, faces impaired driving charges following a Friday morning traffic stop at an undisclosed location.

According to Medicine Hat Police Chief Andy McGrogan, Clugston has been charged with impaired driving and exceed .08 under the provisions of the Criminal Code.

Our police officers are out in the community every day doing their best to enforce the law impartially and without favour, said Chief McGrogan in a Sunday morning media release. That is what I expect and that is what the community expects.

Our Service operates on the principles of four core values, Courage, Integrity, Respect and Accountability. In my review of this matter I can tell you that the officers involved in the arrest and investigation of Mr. Clugston conducted themselves in a way that demonstrated all of those values.

According to Chief McGrogan, Mayor Clugston was cooperative throughout the investigation.

46-year-old Clugston, a married father of two, was elected as Medicine Hats mayor in 2013 after serving two terms as a city alderman.

Clugston is scheduled to appear in court on March 10, 2015.
