It was an act motivated by economics, racism, eugenics, and political retribution." Hartford native Charmagne is a direct decendant of Malaga Island, ME. Her great grandmother and family were among those forcibly evicted from their home on the island by the state. 100 years later the Decendants of Malaga Island along with the state of Maine have created a scholarship fund to give back to the families for their losses.
