GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - New Hartford native Mike Zalewski had his best game as a pro, scoring the game tying and game winning goals in the 3rd period to elevate the Comets to their 9th straight win over the Adirondack Flames, Saturday.

Less than 24 hours after defeating the Flames at the Glens Falls Civic Center 4-2, for their 8th straight win against the division rival, the Comets got clutch play from the hometown rookie to complete the weekend sweep.

The Comets started the scoring in the first period as Will Acton won a foot race down the wing, getting the puck across the crease to Carter Bancks who finished into the empty portion of the net to make it 1-0.

They took that lead into the second, where Turner Elson beat Jacob Markstrom to knot things up at one, at the 13:12 mark of the period.

In the third, it appeared as though the Comets domination of the Flames may have been in jeopardy as Emile Poirier split the D and slipped the puck past Markstrom to give Adirondack a 2-1 lead.

However, the Cardiac Comets struck yet again as just 22 seconds after Poirier's goal, Zalewski won a foot race down the length of the ice and put a backhander past goalie Joni Ortio, for his 2nd of the season, and with that the game was tied once again.

It remained a deadlock until the former New Hartford Spartan and RPI Engineer had another great individual effort with the pick pocket in the neutral zone, before skating it himself down the right wing and ripping of a quick release snapshot that found the bottom left corner past Ortio and into the net for his second of the night, giving Utica the lead back once again 3-2.

Markstrom stayed the course the rest of the way as his 37 saves proved just enough as the Comets came away with another two points, and continued to have Adirondack's number.
