Shakira has red hair now: ‘Redheads have more fun’ – Today.com

Colombian songstress Shakira has made a lot of music inspired by various parts of her body. We know, for example, that her hips don't lie and her strong legs help her run for cover when she needs it.

But the former "Voice" coach has yet to sing about her hair, at least that we can remember. Which is funny, since she seems to love to show it off ... in all the colors of the rainbow!

Shakira, 40, is actually a natural brunette. But we've most often seen her with a honey blond shade we would have sworn she was born with.

For now, though, it appears this "She Wolf" has a new disguise.

"Redheads have more fun," she captioned a photo of herself debuting the new look on Instagram from the set of her upcoming music video. It's a dark, copper-y red that, again, could have fooled us if we didn't know better.

This isn't the first time Shakira has gone the red route. Unlike her new look, the shade she donned on the cover of 2002's "Grandes Exitos" isn't one we've often seen in nature.

She also went through her dark phase ...

Her pink phase ...

And her ... purple wig phase? Hey, sometimes you've got to get these things out of your system.

We can't remember to forget all of Shakira's hair choices through the years. But we can applaud her willingness to experiment!

Invisible Eyelashes & Eyebrow Insecurities – ChicagoNow (blog)

I've been thinking a lot about makeup recently. I used to be the biggest minimalist there ever was, in the most progressive way: "This is how God made me. Why would I try to change that!?" It somehow was similar to when I was 12, the age my mom finally allowed me to get my ears pierced, and I decided not to because I thought it was body mutilation. (I was an odd kid, who grew into an odd adult. But, spoiler alert: I got my ears pierced at age 18.)

But at the same time, I was very insecure about my blonde eyelashes and eyebrows. My big hair swallowed my face and hid my eyes, and having invisible eye features didn't help.

Yet, I always thought black mascara looked too harsh on me. And brown just looked wrong. I was beyond excited to discover Just for Redheads mascara, and later, Redhead Revolution for their strawberry blonde, red and auburn mascaras.

I began wearing their mascaras and eyebrow makeup relatively regularly.

Yet, lately I've been feeling weird about it. Sometimes I see pictures of myself and think how I look much younger when I'm not wearing eye makeup. I've noticed more fine lines around my eyes lately (oh the perks of having fair, dry skin!), and I fearusing makeup has contributed to that (the mascara flakes, the tugging and pulling when removing makeup, the makeup I was unable to remove and ended up sleeping in.)

Sometimes I look at men with similar features, and I never think "Their eyebrows are invisible! Sucks for them!" Instead I think, that suits them. Maybe it suits me too?

I have a number of friends who are makeup non-believers too. Yet, these friends have dark eyebrows and eyelashes; they don't need makeup to make their features stand out!

It's a strange thing to be insecure about. But I know many redheads, like the sisters who run How to be a Redhead would never leave the house without black mascara.

Still, when I see pictures of beautiful Norwegian and Swedish girls who wear their fair features proudly and sans makeup, I can't help but be mesmerized. I think of the time a very sexy Brazilian man told mehe loved how exotic I looked without makeup. A lesbian friend of mine whose hinted she has a crush on me has criticized me before for wearing makeup, telling me I look more beautiful without it. And I think of the Tilda Swintons of the world, who are so strikingly unique WITHOUT eye makeup.

Sometimes when I see girls wearing black mascara with similar features to me, I can't help but think they just look like they're wearing black mascara, and that they'd have been better off leaving it at home.

I did a quick Google search of redheads without makeup and found a site where men said they thought makeup ruined redheads. Of course, lots of men don't understand thatno-makeup looks often involve gobs of makeup.

A couple of sites even mentioned that redheads are some of the only women who look like two completely different people with and without makeup.

Anyway, I've noticed that oddly enough, lip color helps my eyebrows to stand out more. And I have no problem wearing lipsticks and stains, with the exception of not being able to keep it on!

So I might try to go sans eye makeup for a while and see how it goes. But I'll have to play up my lip game a bit. We'll see how long it lasts for.

What do you think? Should redheads always wear mascara?

This is why so many non-ginger guys have red beards – Coventry Telegraph

Ever wondered why so many guys with ginger beards dont actually have any red hair on their heads?

As with pretty much everything that determines the way we look, it's all down to genetics and your family tree.

Basically different pigments in your hair - eumelanin (black) and pheomelanin (red) - determine the colour of your hair.

People with dark hair have black pigment, blondes have less black pigment, and redheads have only red pigments.

Those pigments are controlled by genes, but because the hair on your head is different to the hair on your face, different genes are at play, leading to the possibility of black hair, blond eyebrows and a red beard.

Petra Haak-Bloem, specialist at the Dutch national information centre for genetics and hereditary traits, said: "Generally speaking, people inherit hair colour not only from their parents, but also from their grandparents and earlier ancestors.

"So its entirely possible that one distant ancestor had a hair colour that suddenly appears again though a certain combination of genes - and that can be quite unexpected for parents."

Petra added: More than a decade ago, researchers discovered that one gene (MC1R) on chromosome 16 plays an important part in giving people red hair.

"MC1Rs task is making a protein called melanocortin 1.

"That protein plays an important part in converting pheolmelanin (the red pigment) into eumelanin (black pigment).

When someone inherits two mutated versions of the MC1R-gene (one from each parent), less pheomelanin is converted into eumelanine.

"The pheomelanine accumulates in the pigment cells and the person ends up with red hair and fair skin.

Jack Phillips Heads to the Red Carpet in Nashville! – KSST (press release) (registration) (blog)

Not many 12-year-olds get the thrill of being nominated for a national music award, but Hopkins Countys Jack Phillips is among nine young finalists in the Josie Awards country category. As a finalist, he was recently interviewed live by phone by founder Josie Pasantino. Within the last few years, the Josie Awards has begun to fill a niche by recognizing the top independent artists in all music genres. The awards show is a glittering gala event bringing the best to one stage in Nashville, Tennessee. For 2017, the event will take place at Nissan Stadium on Sunday September 17 and will be televised on the Josie Network. In addition to Traditional and Modern Country categories, Pop/Contemporary, R&B/Soul, Folk/Bluegrass, Gospel/Country Gospel, Southern Rock, Jazz/Blues, Outlaw Country, Tribute Category, Songs of America and Multi-Genre Music categories will be represented. The red carpet will be rolled out for the top artists in each category.

In a KSST Good Morning Show interview, we found out that Jack and his parents Mark and Allison Phillips of Sulphur Bluff are unsure of how the Josie Award nomination came about. They believe the nominator might have been a bandleader or instructor that Jack has worked with since January 2017. Jack received the news while out on the road, and he has spent much of the summer on the road playing numerous dances and attending music camps. In fact, the family has logged over 12,000 Texas and Oklahoma miles on his dads new pickup since February 2017. And riding in the back seat, while practicing his guitar, fiddles and mandolin, Jack has been dreaming of walking down that red carpet! While in Nashville, he also plans to visit the Grand Ole Opry and tour the Opry museum.

Jack began playing the fiddle at about age 6, first taking formal lessons from a teacher in Winnsboro. Today he receives weekly training from Western Swing instrumentalist Hank Singer of Corsicana and he attends week-long music camps hosted by Western Swing and country bandleaders. Earlier this year, his first CD Jack Phillips was released. For gigs, his two favorite fiddles are carried in a double case. One was made in 1917 and Jack loves its rich tone. While traveling in the truck, Jack practices with a small size guitar that fits the tight space, often playing along to songs on Willies Roadhouse for 3-4 hours at a time. His dream is to play on the Grand Ole Opry stage someday. With the help of his parents, hes kept up a heavy summer travel schedule. Over the next 10 days he will appear on Industrys Four County Opry near Houston, will play for a dance at the Longhorn Saloon in the Ft. Worth Stockyards and will appear on the Bluebonnet Youth Revue at Schroeder Hall in Goliad, the oldest dance hall in Texas. On August 5, he is invited to be part of the band celebrating the 90th birthday of Leon Rausch, famed vocalist for Bob Wills. And Jack will soon head back to class at Sulphur Bluff ISD where he has been an Honor Roll student.

As a supplement to the points system in the Josie Awards, the Fan Choice nominations are still open through July 31. Comments about Jack and his music may be posted. Go to josiemusicawards.com, go to the Fans Choice Nomination tab at the top of the page, and post your comment. Also, find out more about Jack, order his CD and view his bookings at jackphillipsmusic.com

Roybal emotional during NM coaches Hall of Honor ceremony – Santa Fe New Mexican

Cindy Roybal couldnt help but shed a tear Wednesday morning.

The longtime head girls basketball coach watched through watery eyes during the tribute video during the New Mexico High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor ceremony at Albuquerques Crowne Plaza Hotel. Roybal was among three inductees into the hall, including longtime former Fort Sumner head girls basketball/track and field coach Rafael Roybal and recently retired Tularosa head football coach Louie Vaisa.

The video highlighted what Cindy Roybal has accomplished during her 40-year coaching career that spans the high school and college ranks, and she heard from a few assistant coaches and former players who vouched for her compassion, tenacity and influence on the players she coached and taught.

Dr. Fiel Trujillo, who coached under Cindy Roybal at New Mexico Highlands University, called it an honor to work with her from 1999-2002, then quoted lyrics from Andy Williams song The Impossible Dream to best capture Roybals essence.

We honor more than victories and banners, Trujillo said. We honor the sacredness of friendship and loyalty. We honor sacrifice and tenacity, and we say Thank you, coach Roybal, for helping us understand that trophies and rings are cherished mementos in time, but the values we learn in pursuing them, both in victory and in defeat, are timeless.

Roybal also was greeted before and after the ceremony by former players during her time at St. Catherine Indian School, both stints at Santa Fe Indian School and NMHU.

While Roybal was a part of the All-American Red Heads traveling squad that was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011 and recently was a finalist for the National High School Coaches Association in girls basketball last year, she considered this honor more rewarding.

I was recognized by my peers as being one of the best, Roybal said. It was a cumulation of everybody who has come through my doors. Nadine Jojola, she was on the first team I coached at St. Catherine, and she was here. So that was impressive. And there were a few others people didnt know about who were here as well.

It is unbelievable to see how many lives Ive touched over the years.

Roybal owns a 377-105 record at St. Catherine, the Institute of American Indian Arts, SFIS, Pojoaque Valley and Espaola Valley. She will begin her first year at Santa Fe High in November.

The New Mexico High School Coaches Association Coaches Clinic honored the achievement of coaches for the previous season as well as highlighted the career achievements of others. All head coaches who were a part of state championship teams received certificates for that accomplishment.

Northern coaches who were recognized for the first time included Moras Jacquelyn Sanchez (volleyball), Pecos Ira Harge (boys basketball). Pecos head cross-country coach Patrick Ortiz won the coach of the year award on the boys side, while former Pecos head coach Sal Gonzales won it for the girls. Former Santa Fe High head boys soccer coach A.J. Herrera won the boys soccer coach of the year for Albuquerque St. Pius X, and Las Vegas Robertsons Warren Fulgenzi was the tennis coach of the year.

A pair of track and field coaches were recognized for career milestones. Pojoaque Valleys Bob Koski, who resigned this summer, earned his Level 1 certificate, while St. Michaels Joey Fernandez was recognized for his teams scoring 626 points during his career.

North, South boys basketball

The South built a 37-27 lead in the first half, and got it up to 74-61 in the third before the North cut the lead down to 77-74. The South regrouped and extended the lead to double digits in the final minute.

Escalante graduate Waylon Hinds had 12 points, while Questas T.J. Madrid had seven. Santiago Laumbach of Mora and Coronados Diego Jacquez each had six.

The South trailed 84-77 midway through the second half, but used a 24-9 run to put the game away. Capitals Jeremy Anaya had only a bucket in the first half, and played sparingly in the second. Santa Fe Highs David Marquez did not score, but saw significant playing time early in the second half.

Roybal to be inducted into state coach hall of honor – Santa Fe New Mexican

Cindy Roybal doesnt feel like shes at the end of her coaching career.

It just seems like the accolades are coming in like she is on the final stretch.

Over the past six years, Roybal was a part of the induction ceremony for the All-American Red Heads, the all-women traveling team, and a finalist for the National High School Athletic Coaches Associations girls basketball coach of the year last year.

Roybals rsum will grow when she is inducted into the New Mexico High School Coaches Associations Hall of Honor at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Albuquerque Crowne Plaza Hotel. Roybal, who was hired as head coach at Santa Fe High in April, will be joined by Floyd head boys basketball coach Rafael Roybal and recently retired Lordsburg head football coach and current athletic director Louie Baisa.

Cindy Roybal said Monday, the first day of the weeklong NMHSCA Coaches Clinic, was filled with even more accolades.

Everyone was handing out congratulations like it was candy, Roybal said.

Its yet another cherry on top of the coaching sundae Roybal accumulated over five decades of teaching and coaching. She thought a lot about her career path, which started at St. Catherine Indian School in the mid-1970s, continued to the Institute of American Indian Arts and then shifted into high gear at Santa Fe Indian School from 1979-86.

Roybal recalls that the place where she earned her degree at College of Santa Fe and her first two coaching stops no longer exist or no longer have high school programs.

Its amazing to think that I outlived all of those places, Roybal said.

Shes lasted long enough to coach the first game at SFIS Francis L. Abeyta Memorial Gymnasium and Pueblo Pavilion. And she also was a part of the first basketball game at the John A. Wilson Complex, where she coached at New Mexico Highlands University from 1985-2002.

Aside from her time at NMHU, Roybal compiled a 377-104 record during stops at St. Catherine, IAIA, SFIS (twice), Pojoaque Valley, Espaola Valley and Santa Fe High. She guided the Lady Braves to 3A titles in 2010 and 2011 and a runner-up spot in 2012.

Roybal recently spent the past three seasons at Espaola, compiling a 71-16 mark and three straight appearances to the 5A semifinals. She took on the job at Santa Fe High because of the task of a small big school taking on some of the top programs in the state appealed to her.

This is challenging, and I like challenges, Roybal said. When I went over [to Espaola], I was aware of the challenge, and I was happy about what we did three straight district titles and three semifinal appearances and the best record Espaola ever had.

I wanted to get closer to home, and Santa Fe High is another challenge that I think we will take on head on and be successful. I feel this second wind of energy, and I am eager to get started there.

Most of all, Roybal recalls all the students, athletes, coaches and parents she encountered during her teaching and coaching career with a fondness that grows with time.

Ive been thinking about them a lot, the humble beginnings from where we started where we had to cut Christmas trees to fund raise, Roybal said. What really comes to my mind is how many kids I have coached who came back and said, If it wasnt for you, the discipline we had, the work ethic we developed That is how I am running my program.

Thats whether they are a nurse, a lawyer, a teacher. Thats what makes me stay in this profession.

‘Heads Should Roll’ Over Red-Light Ticket Settlement, Alderman … – DNAinfo

A sign warns driver of red light camera enforcement at Foster and Broadway. View Full Caption

The Expired Meter.com

CITY HALL "Heads should roll" over the need for the city to pay $38.75 million to settle claims it failed to allow motorists to challenge tickets issued by red-light and speed cameras, Ald. Anthony Beale (9th) said.

Beale, the chairman of the council's transportation committee and a long-time critic of the city's red-light and speed cameras, called the settlement "disturbing" and said the system was "corrupt from the very beginning."

"I'm excited that "residents are going to get their just due," Beale said. "However, this was designed not for public safety but to generate hundreds of millions of dollars. This system was designed to hurt the people who can least afford to pay these tickets."

Under the settlement endorsed Monday by the finance committee and expected to be approved Wednesday by the full council 1.2 million people who paid fines, but didn't get a chance to contest 1.5 million citations, could get a refund of half of what they paid the city, officials said.

Beale said the city employees who failed to follow the law in effect from 2010 to 2015 that required the city to send drivers a second notice about the violation and given 14 days to pay or contest the ticket before declaring that they were guilty and imposing a $100 fine on tickets not paid on time should be fired.

"Heads need to roll," Beale said. "A bunch of heads need to roll."

However, Corporation Counsel Ed Siskel, the city's top attorney, said a "confluence of events" led to the problem that could have put the city on the hook for $250 million.

The settlement will send $26.75 million back to drivers who paid their fines between March 2010 and May 2015 and wipes out $12 million owed to the city by motorists. Those eligible for a refund will be notified by mail, officials said.

The city plans to pay the settlement with $10 million from the $20 million the city got from its lawsuit that alleged the initial red-light camera contract was obtained by bribing city officials, Siskel said.

The rest of the settlement will be paid for with $18 million the city is set to receive from hotel reservation websites to settle a lawsuit alleging the websites did not pay the proper amount of taxes to the city, Siskel said.

Beale said it was "amazing that we can find all this extra money" at a time when he and other aldermen are scrambling to find extra funds for programs.

"There's a pot of gold over here, a pot of gold over here," Beale said. "But I can never put my hand in the pot of gold."

Attorney representing the drivers who sued the city could earn $11.5 million from the settlement agreement, Siskel said.

City officials changed the rules in 2015, and gave drivers who got a ticket but no second notice giving them a chance to challenge it an opportunity to challenge the old violations.

The settlement includes a provision that prohibits any of the tickets in question from being used to suspend a drivers license or to boot a vehicle.

The city's red-light camera program has long been troubled.

In March, city officials agreed to ticket drivers only if they enter a camera-monitored intersection three-tenths of a second or more after the light turns red.

A Northwestern University Traffic Center study found the old rule forced "people to make a split-second decision about whether to brake or go through the intersection" and could have led to rear-end crashes.

In February, the company that installed the red-light cameras at hundreds of intersections will pay Chicago $20 million to settle a lawsuit that alleged the contract was obtained by bribing city officials.

At an unrelated event Monday afternoon, Mayor Rahm Emanuel defended the red-light camera program, but declined to directly answer questions about the settlement.

Minnesota United FC vs. New York Red Bulls | 2017 MLS Match Preview – MLSsoccer.com

Minnesota United FC vs. New York Red Bulls 2017 MLS Regular Season TCF Bank Stadium Minneapolis, Minn. Saturday, July 22 4 pm ET WATCH: ESPN, ESPN Deportes(USA) | TSN2 (Canada)

A newly resurgent New York Red Bulls side fresh off a 5-1 hammering of the San Jose Earthquakes that moved them back above the playoff game will surely like their chances heading into a nationally-televised clash at an injury-ravaged Minnesota United FC side that has struggled offensively in the last month and dropped points in just over half its home matches.

Still, Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch has warned against complacency against a side that has improved markedly on the defensive side of the ball after beginning their expansion season at a historically bad clip.

Minnesota still has not been easy to beat at home in the last couple of months, Marsch said this week. And well have to go on turf. It will be a hot day and theyll challenge us in a lot of different ways.

While Minnesota have a long wayto go (nine points, to be exact) to salvage their already-fading playoff chances after a 0-0 home draw against Houston on Wednesday the third time in 11 home games they have been shut out the Red Bulls are back over the playoff line in fifth place in the Eastern Conference and will be hoping to both move away from the chasing pack.

A battered Loons side heads into this one with 10 players absent via either injury or international duty, plus another five listed as questionable. Its left head coach Adrian Heath with little room to maneuver in terms of his squad selection, especially on the backlinewhere only one true center back is available.

The threadbare nature of the team heading into this weekend means that some of Minnesotas summer transfer window signings, who have spent very little time with the club, could be pressed into immediate service. New Zealand international center back Michael Boxallis a good shout to step into the backline, otherwise Justin Davis could slide over from left back.

Minnesota's other summer pickiup, Scottish winger Sam Nicholson, may not need to be rushed into action, with a little more depth available at that postion, especially if Miguel Ibarra can go after picking up an ankle knock on Wednesday.

Projected Starting XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Bobby Shuttleworth Jerome Thiesson, Brent Kallman, Michael Boxall, Justin Davis Collen Warner, Ibson Miguel Ibarra, Kevin Molino, Bashkim Kadrii Christian Ramirez

Notes: Following Wednesday nights 0-0 draw with Houston, Minnesota are now winless in their last three home games (1L-2D). They had failed to win only three of their first eight league home games (5W-3L). Minnesotas Christian Ramirez was caught offside twice against Houston. His 18 total offsides this season are tied with Bradley Wright-Phillips for the sixth most offsides in the league.

After a first half that featured some drab play and plenty of hand-wringing from the fans, the Red Bulls exploded coming out of the Gold Cup, dropped five on the San Jose Earthquakes (the first time theyve scored that many since last years infamous 7-0 win over NYCFC). The outburst can be partly attributed to a shift to a 5-4-1 formation (more on that here), but theyre not about to let the midweek pasting they dished out go to their heads.

It was good, Red Bulls head coach Marsch said of the win over San Jose. The game was in grasp. Now, theyre dangerous on counters a couple of times so it could have been tied at some point. I think it was very good and were moving in the right direction, but I still think there is plenty of room for improvement.

Weve been in a good way. Weve had some results pile up for us. Weve rotated the formation a little bit and we think it gets the best out of a lot of guys, but you always have to be careful that you always continue to have your minds in the right places and you dont get too far ahead of ourselves.

Projected Starting XI (5-4-1): Luis Robles Tyler Adams, Michael Murillo, Aaron Long, Damien Perrinelle, Connor Lade Sean Davis, Felipe, Sacha Kljestan, Daniel Royer Bradley Wright-Phillips

Notes: The Red Bulls are searching for their first three-game road winning streak since April 13-May 4, 2013. They have scored five goals in their last two away games after scoring four in their first seven away games this year (1W-6L). The Red Bulls five goals against San Jose on Wednesday night was just the 15th time in franchise history that they scored five or more goals in a league game (14W-1D). It was the second time they have scored five or more in an MLS game under Jesse Marsch.

This is the first meeting between the two teams.

Return of the rangas as fertility experts call for more red-haired donors – 9news.com.au

Following years of doom-and-gloom research suggesting they were a dying breed, redheads are on their way to conquering the world - and the numbers back them up.

Fertility clinics and international sperm donor networks say rangas are in demand from people looking to undergo IVF treatment.

This stands in stark contrast to just a handful of years ago in 2011, when one of the world's largest sperm banks, Denmark's Cryos International, announced it would no longer be accepting donations from redheads.

They claimed there was not enough interest from parents wanting red-haired children.

But now, according to other experts, gingers are back with a bang.

Monash IVF Group fertility specialist Dr Gareth Weston agrees.

"If there are any redheads out there willing to donate, we'd be happy to hear from you," he told A Current Affair.

"We recently had a red haired sperm donor approach us at Monash IVF and his sperm was snapped up by four women within the first month."
