Liberty will platoon QBs in opener at Wake Forest

Liberty football coach Turner Gill hasnt yet decided which of his two quarterbacks will start Saturdays season opener at Wake Forest. But he announced Tuesday just how Josh Woodrum and Brian Hudson will be used in Winston-Salem.

Both Woodrum and Hudson will get two series at minimum on Saturday with the hope that one of them will emerge as the better option once faced with playing against strong competition.

"They have both shown that theyve earned the chance to play," Gill said. "Thats probably the best way to sum it up. Both guys have really done well. Ive seen our players respond to both guys in a good way."

Woodrum, a redshirt freshman from Cave Spring in Roanoke, hasnt seen game action since Nov. 27, 2010, when his Knights team fell to Richlands in the Region IV championship game. Hudsons college game experience is minimal. He played during the second half of Libertys romp over Division II Kentucky Wesleyan last October and later in the month, staked to a 38-0 lead, played the second half of the Flames win at Charleston Southern.

The competition level will be a several notches higher on Saturday night for both players.

"Obviously a game is different from practice," Hudson said. "Weve been getting no contact. So that adds another dimension to it, to see how we can run, break tackles and make plays. Its definitely a different story from practice to a game. Some guys respond differently in practice and some guys respond differently in games, for better or for worse."

Early in training camp, Gill sounded frustrated at times that neither quarterback was able to win the job outright. But Tuesday, he reversed course a bit, noting that both players had performed exceptionally well in the final two weeks of practice and that both deserved the opportunity to show what they can do in a game setting before making a final decision on a starting quarterback going forward.

"Im excited by it," Gill said. "Ive got two pretty good quarterbacks. The alternative is having no good quarterbacks. I dont see it as a negative. I see it as a positive all the way around."

Allen suspended

Gill suspended junior running back Aldreakis Allen for the opener for a violation of team rules. Allen has led the Flames in rushing in each of the two seasons that hes played (2009, 2011). Allen missed the 2010 season while serving a school-related suspension.

Liberty Bell restaurant to keep 28-foot-tall rooster

LIBERTY, Ind. A 28-foot-tall rooster sign is being allowed to stay up outside a restaurant in a small eastern Indiana town despite complaints that it violated zoning rules.

The Union County Board of Zoning Appeals voted Monday to approve an exception from building rules so that the Liberty Bell restaurant can keep its colorful wood-and-metal sign, WLWT-TV in Cincinnati reported (http://bit.ly/PKKe7Z ).

The county planning director said several people complained that the 16-foot-wide sign was closer to the street than allowed. But residents of the 2,000-person community near the state border with Ohio who showed up to the board meeting supported allowing it to remain.

The restaurants owner, Andy Pitcher, said customers often pose for photos under the sign, which he put up this spring to help draw attention during a street construction project. The debate over whether it should be allowed to remain has helped business, he said.

Weve sold thousands of pieces of chicken over the weekend up and above what we normally do, Pitcher said.

Mark Mayer, a carpenter who helped build the sign, said the rooster is securely moored and able to withstand thunderstorms.

Hes gone through one with 60 to 80 mile an hour winds so far, so hes not going anywhere, Mayer said.

BG Capital Group Taps into Liberty Silver Corp. Amidst forecast of "silver rush"

PLANTATION, Fla., Aug. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- BG Capital Group, a venture capital and private equity firm with offices in South Florida, has announced an interest and investment in Liberty Silver Corp. (TSX: LSL, OTCBB:LBSV), an advanced stage junior silver mining company with potential resources of 120m silver equivalent ounces.

"We are confident that this newly discovered deposit located in the United States will yield a substantial supply of silver," said Bobby Genovese, CEO of BG Capital Group. "We anticipate a growing increase in the value of silver and prospect of this project given the limited supply in areas that can be safely mined."

The revival of this US supply source is good news for investors - and the national economy - as this project has the potential to not only provide a safe location to produce but it is also expected to create more jobs. Today, silver production comes primarily from other countries that face challenges including violence and localized uprisings that have put mining to halts.

Liberty currently oversees approximately 24 million inferred ounces of silver equivalent resources located 23 miles from the renowned Coeur Rochester silver mine, known as the "Trinity" project, with an opportunity to become a low-cost, large-scale operation given the existing open pit mine on the property that produced 5m silver ounces in the late 1980s.

Historical drilling and production data, recent surveys and drilling results, as well as BG Capital's independent research reveals the property has potential resources of approximately 120m silver equivalent ounces between the Trinity property and the adjacent Hi Ho silver property of which Liberty recently entered into a mineral rights agreement with.

Liberty Silver Corp is an advanced stage junior mining company focused on developing its flagship property - the Trinity Silver Project - comprised of 10,600 acres including 5,700 acres of fee land and 240 unpatented mining claims. The Trinity property, previously mined and operated by US Borax, produced 5 million ounces of silver from 1.1 million tons of ore from its open pit oxide resource from 1987 to 1989; mining ceased when sulfide mineralization was encountered in the bottom of the pit and metal prices were too low to support mining the sulfide resource.

The Trinity Silver Project is located 25 miles northwest of Lovelock, Nevada (Pershing County) and shares its geographical location with major gold and silver producers including one of the largest silver mines in the United States, the Coeur Rochester silver mine, which produced 125 million ounces of silver from 1986 to 2010 and has an estimated 120 million silver ounces in reserves. The Company holds the right to earn a 70% interest in the Trinity Project from Renaissance Gold (REN.TO).

BG Capital Group is a venture capital and private equity firm that offers more than 20 years of investor relations experience, in-depth marketing and financial management. For more information, visit http://www.bgcapitalgroup.com.

Healthy Seattle Storm Takes Down New York Liberty: Fan Reaction

For the first time this season, the entire Seattle Storm team was available to play against the New York Liberty on Sunday, August 26. As a result, the Storm put an end to their three-game losing streak and defeated the Liberty 84-66.

Lauren Jackson, playing in only her second WNBA game of the season, is still becoming acquainted with her teammates. However, her presence forced the Liberty to focus on shutting her down offensively. With the Liberty's attention on Jackson, other Storm players were left open to score. As a result, four Storm players scored in the double digits. Sue Bird had an outstanding performance, contributing 18 points and 10 assists for the Storm. Jackson had 16 points and six rebounds. Camille Little had 15 points and eight rebounds. Shekinna Stricklen added 12 points for the Storm.

Ann Wauters and Tina Thompson joined the lineup after sitting out several games to recover from injuries. Thompson scored five points in under 11 minutes on the floor. Wauters added nine points in just under nine minutes for the Storm.

The worn-out Liberty never held the lead. Sunday night's game against the Storm was their sixth game in nine days. The Storm held the Liberty to just 38.2 percent shooting. Cappie Pondexter scored a game-high 23 points. She was the only Liberty player to score in the double digits.

Storm Will Face Mercury Thursday

The Storm will face the Phoenix Mercury at Seattle's Key Arena on Thursday. The Mercury are currently tied with the Tulsa Shock for last place in the Western Conference. They will be fighting for survival against the Storm. With Diana Taurasi rejoining her team, the Mercury will be ready to fight the Storm for the last time in the regular season. Taurasi did not play during the first half of the season as she recovered from an injury to her hip flexor.

The Mercury have been short-handed as Penny Taylor has missed the season due to a torn ACL. Candice Dupree, Charde Houston and Alexis Gray-Lawson, also recovering from injuries, missed the Mercury's last game against the Indiana Fever. The Fever defeated the Mercury 85-72, resulting in 10 straight losses for the Mercury.

Anne Bucher has been a devoted follower of the WNBA since its inception in 1997. A Texas native, she cheered the Houston Comets on to their four consecutive championship titles. Now she lives in the Northwest and roots for the Seattle Storm.

Liberty: Patriots hunt for turnovers to stay competitive

During Liberty's practices so far this offseason, coach Steve Valach has kept a vigilant eye on one stat that could go a long way in determining his team's season: turnover margin.

That's right, Valach records every turnover created and every turnover lost during practice. Right now, he points out rather quickly, his group holds a plus four turnover margin, although it should be noted that Valach counts anytime his offense lets the ball hit the ground as a turnover.

For Valach, it's become the calling card of this offseason and the thing that he reiterates daily to his players.

"Are we a powerhouse? Not by anybody means," he said. "But if we take care of the football and play good defense, we're going to be in a lot of games."

Valach cites turnovers as one of the biggest reasons why his team went 4-6 last year; the Patriots had a minus-15 ratio a year ago. So where does that turnover margin number need to be in order for the Patriots to have a chance this season?

"By the end of the season, if we're in double digits with that ratio, we'll be a playoff team," Valach said.

Valach said his team's meat and potatoes are with the skill position players, who are led by wide receivers Tynan Gilmore (5-10, 165) and Scott Dean (5-10, 170). Those guys will team up with first-year quarterback Robbie Thomas (6-3, 185) to form the core of Liberty's offense.

"Decent team speed and skill position players are a strength," Valach said.

On the flip side, Liberty isn't an exceptionally big team, although the Patriots do return Nick Short (6-1, 210) on the offensive and defensive lines.

"Not a lot of depth," Valach said, "and we're not real big. But we're pretty disciplined and pretty tough so I think that gives us a shot. I think we make up for it with that."

Sparks blow past Liberty

LOS ANGELES It turned out the Liberty were no match for the red-hot Sparks. Kristi Toliver scored 26 points and Candace Parker added 12 points, five rebounds and four blocks to help the Los Angeles win its ninth straight game with an 87-62 victory over the Liberty on Saturday night.

The Sparks (19-6) led wire-to-wire and got another excellent game from Toliver, who scored 14 points in the fourth quarter. Toliver, coming off a career-high tying 29-point game, made back-to-back 3-pointers to push the lead to 77-58 and another to make it 82-60.

L.A.s last nine-game win streak was in 2003, when it started the season 9-0.

Parker scored 10 points in the second half after she missed seven of her first eight shots of the game and DeLisha Milton-Jones added 12 points.

Nneka Ogwumike, the WNBAs leading scorer and rebounder, briefly left the game in the third quarter with an apparent knee injury but returned and finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Cappie Pondexter led the Liberty (9-14) with 20 points. Plenette Pierson added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Liberty, which did not get any closer than 56-54 in the third quarter. The Liberty, which made 13 3-pointers on Thursday, went 4 for 17 from 3-point range and shot 37 percent from the field.

Pondexter sank three jumpers during a 14-4 run in the third quarter that brought the Liberty to 56-54 on Alex Montgomerys layup off a Sparks turnover. But L.A. pulled ahead to 65-57 on a corner 3-pointer by Alana Beard and a left hand layup by Parker after Marissa Coleman saved it from going out of bounds.

The Sparks took a 45-38 lead into halftime despite giving up 22 points in the paint with Parker on the bench for most of the second quarter. The Liberty outrebounded the Sparks, 21-15, in the first half and recorded 12 assists on 15 field goals.

Pondexter brought the Liberty to 33-32 on a 3-pointer before L.A. ended the first half on a 12-6 run. Jantel Lavender scored six of those 12, including a bank shot in the paint and a baseline jumper.

Toliver scored 10 of the Sparks 25 first quarter points. The Liberty pulled to 19-18 on Leilani Mitchells 3-pointer, but Milton-Jones came back with a 3-pointer. Alana Beard forced a turnover on New Yorks next possession and Toliver sank a 3-pointer for a 25-18 lead.

Liberty Ross Is "Still Processing" Rupert Sanders' Kristen Stewart Fling

Liberty Ross is staying strong post-scandal.

Although the British model, 33, hasn't been wearing her wedding ring since her husband Rupert Sanders, 41, was caught cheating with actress Kristen Stewart, 22, a source tells Us Weekly "no decisions have been made" about their 15-year relationship.

PHOTOS: Kristen and Rupert's affair

The Snow White and the Huntsman director Sanders was photographed engaged in a steamy makeout session with Snow White actress Stewart on July 17. Ross learned of her husband's affair the week before Us Weekly's exclusive photos emerged on July 24.

"Nothing has been filed. It's still too early to tell what will happen," the source tells Us. "She is talking to and seeing Rupert now for the kids, but as far as the marriage she's still processing everything that happened."

PHOTOS: Women who've been cheated on

The former British Vogue cover girl shares daughter Skyla, 7, and son Tennyson, 5, with Sanders. The director did issue a public apology to his wife in a statement to Us on July 25, saying, "I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family."

As for the future of their relationship, the source tells Us, "No decisions have been made. It's been very hard on her dealing with this and all the media attention. She is very strong and working through it and keeping private about it."

Ross stepped out on the red carpet Wednesday for her first time since the scandal. Looking stylish in a silky green button-down shirt, Ross smiled for the cameras at the Hollywood premiere of Lawless. The only thing missing from her ensemble? Her wedding ring.

Sennen Responds to Desperate Plea From Liberty

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Aug. 24, 2012) - Sennen Resources Ltd. (SN.V) ("Sennen" or the "Company") comments on the News Release dated August 22, 2012 issued by Liberty Silver Corp ("Liberty") stating that Liberty intend to extend their hostile offer (the "Offer") to Sennen Shareholders until September 10, 2012.

Do not tender your Sennen Shares to the Liberty Offer. Sennen Shareholders are reminded that the Board of Directors have recommended REJECTION of the Liberty Offer for the reasons set out in the Director's Circular dated July 30, 2012. There is no need for Sennen Shareholders to do anything to REJECT the liberty Offer. Please refer to the Director's Circular, which is available on SEDAR, for more detailed reasons for REJECTION, and steps to take if you have already tendered your Sennen Shares.

It comes as no surprise that Liberty's efforts to make a 'cash-grab' of Sennen's treasury have failed. Also, as Liberty has 'sunk' costs into this irresponsible venture, they have little or nothing to lose by extending their bid deadline-possibly endlessly. Sennen Shareholders are justifiably outraged by what they consider to be continual harassment by Liberty, and by extending their offer, Liberty continue to alienate any microscopic support they may have achieved to date. Liberty continues to waste both their own, and unfortunately, the Company's time and money. Sennen Shareholders are not impressed with Liberty's strategy of 'value destruction'.

The facts have not changed:

Stated Ian Rozier, President and CEO, "Liberty continues to treat the Shareholders of Sennen with contempt. We have made our own feelings very clear to Liberty, as have our Shareholders, as to what we think of their Offer, their company, their management and their assets, but they, along with their various advisors, persist in continuing with this nonsense, and in doing so, waste everyone's time and money. Liberty have no credibility with the majority of Sennen Shareholders, and based upon written communication received by Sennen management from one of Liberty's own large shareholders, are rapidly eroding any they have amongst their own. Sennen has zero interest in doing any business whatsoever with Liberty Silver."

Pondexter scores 31 to lead Liberty past Mercury

PHOENIX (AP) -- Cappie Pondexter scored 31 points to lead the New York Liberty to an 89-77 victory over Phoenix on Thursday night, handing the Mercury their ninth straight loss.

Nicole Powell and Leilani Mitchell scored 13 points each, Plenette Pierson had 12 points and Kara Braxton added 12 points and nine rebounds to help the Liberty (9-13) win for the third time in four games since the league's month-long Olympic break.

''We've had injuries like Phoenix ... so we've been out of synch,'' Liberty coach John Whisenant said. ''Since the break we've been playing better because we got everyone healthy and we've been able to practice with healthy people... And we've been making shots. Coaching is a lot easier when we make shots.''

Pondexter shot 9 for 15 from the field - 5 for 9 on 3pointers - and was 8 for 8 from the free-throw line. New York shot 47 percent (30 for 64), including 13 for 27 on 3s, and moved into sole possession of fourth place in the Eastern Conference, one-half game ahead of Chicago and two games behind third-place Atlanta.

''We have to stay afloat,'' Pondexter said. ''Our goal is to win eight more games to be in a safe position.''

DeWanna Bonner scored 34 points for Phoenix (4-18), which continued to play without several of its injured regulars. Bonner shot 11 for 26 from the field, tying her career high for baskets made.

The Liberty led by 18 in the first half before Phoenix rallied to pull to 56-53 midway through the third period on Bonner's layup. However, Pondexter scored nine points over the next 6 minutes and New York took a 70-61 lead into the final period.

''I don't know if we just came out a little too passive,'' Bonner said. ''We're trying to figure things out and we end up digging ourselves a hole. With this team you can't do that. We have to come out aggressive and its hard to do that when you're down 15, 16 points.''

Sammy Prahalis added 12 points, four rebounds and four assists, and Krystal Thomas added a career-high 14 rebounds for the Mercury, who played only eight players.

Phoenix was without Olympic gold medalist Diana Taurasi, who was in warmups but said she felt lightheaded and did not play. She underwent a dental procedure last Friday. Before the Olympic break, Taurasi had missed 18 of Phoenix's 20 games with a hip flexor but then led the Americans in scoring during the Olympic tournament, averaging 12.4 points a game.
