Synopsys' Open-Source Liberty Format to Incorporate On-Chip Variation Extensions

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Highlights:

Synopsys, Inc. (SNPS), a world leader in software and IP used in the design, verification and manufacture of electronic components and systems, today announced it intends to incorporate on-chip variation (OCV) extensions in its open-source Liberty library format, the de-facto modeling standard for integrated circuit (IC) implementation and signoff. The new extensions will help standardize usage of the popular stage-based Advanced OCV (AOCV) modeling approach for 40- and 28-nm processes nodes. The final format extensions and ratification as part of the Liberty standard will be completed with the guidance and assistance of the Liberty Technical Advisory Board.

The Liberty library format is the semiconductor industry's most widely adopted library standard used by virtually all EDA implementation, analysis and library characterization tools as the library model exchange for timing, noise, power and test behavior. In May 2006, an industry-wide Liberty Technical Advisory Board was formed to facilitate the evolution of the Liberty library modeling standard. The Liberty Technical Advisory Board functions under the auspices of the IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (IEEE-ISTO). Its 14 member companies represent the broad semiconductor industry including the design community, EDA companies, silicon foundries, and semiconductor intellectual property (IP) companies. A complete list of members can be found at http://opensourceliberty.org/liberty_techadvisory.html. Liberty is available for download to the entire semiconductor design community under standard open-source terms. The latest Liberty syntax specifications and tools can be found at http://www.opensourceliberty.org.

"Standardizing the Liberty format extensions through the Liberty Technical Advisory Board allows the design community and EDA tool suppliers an opportunity to contribute and participate in the standardization process," said Rich Goldman, vice president of corporate marketing and strategic alliances, Synopsys. "In the past 2 years, the Liberty Technical Advisory Board has helped guide the ratification of over 10 new additions to Liberty to improve design for low-power flows."

The standardization of on-chip variation extensions via the Liberty Technical Advisory Board will benefit the semiconductor industry by:

AvailabilityThe Liberty Technical Advisory Board is expected to finalize and ratify the OCV extensions to Liberty in November 2012, making it available to open-source licensees shortly thereafter.

Liberty Gold Announces 'Visible Gold' in Initial Samples on Their Arizona Property

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire -09/05/12)- Liberty Gold, Corp. (LBGO) has announced that they have 'visible metallics and gold' from bulk samplings taken from their properties. Initial samples were collected from 5 different locations within the Domestic Portfolio holdings to determine whether, once processed, visible gold was present at 3 different screen sizes: 100 minus, 50 minus and 25 minus. Samples from each of the 5 different locations resulted in the detection of visible metallics.

Lynn Harrison, Liberty Gold's President and CEO is encouraged by the results of the samplings and will now proceed with larger samplings to assess the full mineral potential of the property. The company has also recently announced the doubling of their Alaska claim.

In June 2012, Goldman Sachs updated its forecast on the gold price to US$ 1,940.- within the following 12 months, i.e. by mid of 2013. Barclays Capital expects a gold price of US$ 1,790.- in the fourth quarter of 2012, while Morgan Stanley now predicts gold prices to be on a level of US$ 2,000.- during that quarter.

Other active metal mining stocks are: Great Northern Iron Ore (GNI), Kaiser Aluminum (KALU) and Commercial Metals Co (CMC)

Goldman Small Cap Research Issues Research Update on Liberty Gold Corp.

BALTIMORE, Sept. 4, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Goldman Small Cap Research, a stock market research firm focused on the small cap and micro cap sectors, has issued research coverage of Liberty Gold Corp., an emerging gold and precious metals exploration company.

Liberty Gold Corp.'s strategy is to acquire significant assets in properties that have proven production histories and that lie adjacent to current, large-scale production and mining operations owned by the world's largest exploration companies. To date, the Company owns significant assets in Arizona and Alaska that have estimated valuations well into the billions of dollars.

In the Goldman Opportunity Research report on the Company, analyst Rob Goldman outlines his investment thesis.

"The Company's recent sampling and processing for visible gold results on the Company's Domestic Portfolio were favorable. Initial samples were collected from 5 different locations within the Domestic Portfolio holdings to determine whether, once processed, visible gold was present at 3 different screens. Liberty Gold will now apply the same sampling and processing approach on a bulk sampling scale, which will involve collecting at least 2 separate 200-pound samples from each location to assess the mining potential. Plus, we are in the midst of a commodity rally and a record holding level of ETFs backed by gold, which bodes well for investors."

Mercury-Liberty Preview

The New York Liberty play most of their remaining games against teams with losing records, seemingly improving their chances of returning to the postseason.

The Phoenix Mercury, though, are a much tougher opponent with Diana Taurasi on the court.

New York looks to pull ahead in the Eastern Conference playoff race when it hosts the Mercury on Wednesday night.

The Liberty (10-16) ended a three-game losing streak by beating Washington 79-73 on Saturday, led by Essence Carson's 20 points and 16 from Cappie Pondexter.

New York is tied with Chicago for the conference's fourth and final postseason berth, and it's looking to take a half-game lead before hosting the Sky on Friday.

"Every game is crucial at this point," said Carson, who is normally the first player off the Liberty bench but received an unexpected start Saturday. "We have to think that we need every game. We had to win a game like this, especially with the situation we're in."

Coach John Whisenant's team has several more games against weaker opponents, playing six of its final eight regular-season contests against sub-.500 foes. The Liberty already beat Phoenix (6-19) on the road 89-77 on Aug. 23.

Pondexter had 31 points in that game, but the former Phoenix guard has been struggling with sore Achilles on both feet.

"We still have to win the games we have left," Whisenant said Saturday. "Nothing is an easy win. It was good that we got a win when we didn't have to count on Cappie."

The Mercury may present a bigger challenge this time around, having won back-to-back games following a 10-game losing streak.

Liberty's Lewellyn brothers earn playing time through hard work

When Liberty safety Brent Vinson describes Flames defensive captain Bryant Lewellyn, he does so in simple terms.

Hes just a country boy, Vinson said. Choppin wood.

Choppin wood is hard work, an endeavor that comes with sore muscles and the occasional nasty blister. Hard work has been a staple in the life of Bryant and Dylan Lewellyn since they were small children, baling hay and tending to cattle on the family farm in Danbury, N.C., a blip on the map 20 miles northeast of Winston-Salem that as of the 2010 census had a population of 189.

When you ask how the heck the Lewellyn brothers went from walk-on afterthoughts to potential major contributors for Libertys defense, you have to start with that farm.

That was the motto, said Bryant, a senior defensive tackle. We were going to go outside and we were going to work and work and work. That taught me something. I remember baling a 1,000 bales of hay all day, going to football practice and coming back to work at the barn at night. Its just something we did.

Dylan, a sophomore linebacker, said not only did he and his brother learn to work, they learned to work the right way.

I became a perfectionist, thats what it was, Dylan said. My stepfather, he really instilled in me to do the job right the first time. Most of the times I would go in there, I would do it just to get it over with. Hed make me go back and do it again. Pretty soon, I would learn just to do it right the first time.

Bryant has played in eight games during his three years at Liberty, mostly in mop-up time. Dylan spent his redshirt freshman season toiling on the scout team. But if you ask any member of the defensive coaching staff to talk about the Lewellyn brothers, their eyes light up.

Hes the guy that comes to work every day with his hard hat and his lunch bucket and a sledgehammer, defensive line coach Vantz Singletary said of Bryant. Linebackers coach Carl Torbush praised Dylan as an intelligent player capable of playing all three positions. Hell open the season at No. 2 on the depth chart at weak side linebacker behind Scott Hyland.

Bryant had a few offers from Division II schools coming out of North Stokes High School, but he chose to walk on at Liberty on the urging of his mother. Both brothers said they had never even heard of LU before visiting campus. Bryant was cut after his first tryout the fall of his freshman year but came back in the spring for another go-around, unfazed.

Carson, Pondexter propel Liberty

Essence Carson scored 20 points and Cappie Pondexter added 16 to lead the Liberty past the last-place Washington Mystics 79-73 on Saturday in Newark.

Kara Braxton had 14 points, including eight in a decisive 11-0 run in the second quarter, to help the Liberty (10-16) snap a three-game losing streak. Carson shot 8 for 13 from the field and also had six assists. The Liberty moved into a tie for fourth place in the Eastern Conference with Chicago, which played at Indiana later. Atlanta is 3/ games ahead in third.

Every game is crucial at this point, said Carson, who got a rare start after usually being the Libertys first player off the bench. We have to think that we need every game. We had to win a game like this, especially with the situation were in.

Pondexter, bothered by sore Achilles on both feet, said she believes the Liberty have to win seven of their final nine games to secure a postseason berth.

If we want to make the playoffs, thats what we need to do, she said. We also have to count on others to lose. Destiny is not in our own hands. We have a chance to make up the difference and get in.

Pondexter knew that she wasnt feeling well and tried to play through the pain, but shot just 6 for 18.

It was great that Essence stepped up, Pondexter said. Im happy we got the win. Its more important than me getting 20 points. I just wanted to give as much effort as I could.

Liberty coach John Whisenant said he was pleased with the team effort.

We told them that it didnt matter who we were playing, that we had to play hard, Whisenant said. Essence came back and played well. She got more minutes. We shook the starting lineup around a little, not for any reason. It seemed to work.

Monique Currie scored 20 points, Crystal Langhorne had 19 points and eight rebounds, and Jasmine Thomas added 18 for Washington (5-21), which lost its fifth straight.

Wake Forest holds on to beat Liberty 20-17

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) -- Redshirt freshman Deandre Martin scored the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 2-yard run as Wake Forest came from behind to defeat Liberty 20-17 Saturday.

On a rain-soaked evening, the Demon Deacons had all they could handle with Liberty, a Football Championship Subdivision foe with 65 scholarship players.

The Flames led 14-7 late in the third quarter when Wake Forest safety A.J. Marshall stepped in front of a Brian Hudson pass and returned it 39 yards for a touchdown to help turn the tide.

On Wake Forest's next possession, Martin capped a nine-play, 60-yard drive by racing around right end to give the Demon Deacons their first lead at 20-14 with 13:24 remaining. Martin ran for 74 yards after taking over in the first quarter when starting running back Josh Harris left with a concussion and did not return.

Hudson threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns for Liberty.

Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe had concerns over his offensive line after replacing four starters from last season - and that inexperience showed.

The Demon Deacons looked out of sync in the early going, failing to register a first down on their first three possessions. Even when they did finally move the chains late in the first quarter it looked ugly as quarterback Tanner Price had to scramble for a 4-yard gain on third-and-4 on a busted play.

Wake Forest had 42 total yards midway through the second quarter and trailed 7-0 until Price found his favorite target Michael Campanaro down the middle for a 31-yard touchdown pass to tie the game. Campanaro had 96 yards on nine catches.

Liberty outgained Wake Forest 178-145 in the first half and had a chance to take a 10-7 lead entering the locker room but John Lunsford's 49-yard field goal sailed wide right as time expired.

That miss would come back to haunt the Flames.

Liberty begin key stretch in push for playoff spot

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- The New York Liberty entered the weekend one-half game out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. With six of their last nine games at home, they know this is the time to make their big push.

The Liberty have struggled for consistency all season, winning three games in a row just once while losing at least three straight three times. However, this final stretch is their best chance for a run with six games against teams owning worse records, and one against Chicago - which is just ahead of them in the East.

''Washington might catch one of us but probably can't catch both of us,'' Liberty coach John Whisenant said. ''We've fought through a lot of our hard schedule.''

New York (9-16) has three games remaining with the Mystics, who are last in the East, starting Saturday at the Prudential Center. The Liberty also have two against Tulsa and one against Phoenix, and -along with the Mystics - those three teams are a combined 16-58.

''Sometimes we have as much trouble with Washington and Tulsa as we do with (first-place) Connecticut,'' Whisenant said. ''They're still hard to (beat). They have good players. They've had their own injury problems, their own karma problems, and if you catch them at the right time they'll get us. ... We've just got to keep plugging away.''

The Liberty came off a nine-day road trip in which they lost three of five, and opened a stretch of six straight at home with a 76-63 loss to second-place Indiana on Thursday night - giving them their latest three-game skid.

Cappie Pondexter pointed to fatigue from the travel in the recent road swing for the team's struggles against Indiana, in a game New York trailed by one early in the fourth quarter before being outscored 25-12 the rest of the way. New York's trip started in Connecticut on Aug. 18 and went through Chicago and Phoenix before finishing up with back-to-back games in Los Angeles and Seattle last weekend.

''Everybody looked a step slow,'' Pondexter said. ''It's hard coming off the road, from west to east, six games in nine days against great teams. ... We had one day to prepare for another great team.''

The star guard also knows this upcoming stretch is critical to the Liberty's postseason chances.

''We need all these games at home because playing at home is a different kind of energy because you're not travelling as much as the other team,'' she said. ''Next game against Washington, if we don't think they're going to come in and try to win and spoil our playoff hopes, we don't deserve to be there.''

Liberty University preview capsule

LYNCHBURG, Va. --

The skinny

Coach: Turner Gill (first season at Liberty, 25-49 in six seasons overall)

2011: 7-4, 5-1 Big South

Offense: Gill's first task is a formidable one: replace Mike Brown, arguably the most prolific dual-threat quarterback in Big South Conference history. Junior Brian Hudson and redshirt freshman Josh Woodrum are first in line for the job. Gone, too, is standout wide receiver Chris Summers. The Flames return abundant experience at running back. Senior wideout Pat Kelly caught 40 passes for 591 yards last year. He likely will become the new QB's primary downfield target.

Defense: Liberty's shift from a three-man front to a 4-3 will add emphasis upon defensive-line play. Three experienced linemen return, but quality depth is a question. Depth at linebacker, on the other hand, is plentiful. It begins with sophomore Nick Sigmon (60 tackles, 30 solo, in 2011). Cornerbacks Kevin Fogg, a senior; Walt Aikens, a junior; and junior safety Chris Mayo lead a solid secondary.

Special teams: The departures of kicker Matt Bevins and punter Mike Larsson represent a substantial problem. Sophomore kicker Aaron Sassaman and junior punter Grant Bowden, a transfer from Virginia Tech, are regarded as likely replacements. Fogg is a first-rate kickoff/punt returner.

Quotable: "Mental errors we're trying to make sure that's something we can control. We want to minimize (lapses of awareness). That's the quickest way to lose a football game not doing the small things, the detail things, right." Gill, on his team's area of greatest emphasis at the conclusion of preseason training camp

Outlook: The success of Liberty's season depends on two periods of adjustment the team to Gill and the offense to its new quarterback. The Flames likely will not match last year's 35.9-point offensive average. The defense, which allowed an average of 34.5 points in last season's four losses, must quickly become surly if Liberty is to challenge preseason favorite Stony Brook for the Big South championship.

Bottom line: 8-3, 5-1 (second in the Big South)

The result is unparalleled depth of investigation in precision electromagnetic measurements with a geophysical measurement every 8.5 meters along the lines and a penetration of approximately 6,000 feet below the land surface. Liberty Stars target elements are gold, copper, moly, silver, rare earth metals, lead and zinc, along with other byproduct metals occurring in a porphyry gold copper environment, as indicated by Liberty Stars detailed geochemical survey results (News Release 127, June 29, 2012).

About the Tombstone Super Project (TSP)

The TSP initially consisted of 33 unpatented federal lode mining claims over a projected covered porphyry copper mineral center in Cochise County, Arizona. InSeptember 2011, more claims coveringapproximately eight square miles were added after Chief Geologist James Briscoe discovered a large multimodal anomaly over a large covered porphyry copper mineral center within the larger TSP area. In 2011, SRK Consulting prepared three NI 43-101 compliant technical reports over Liberty Stars holdings. Each report recommended further exploration on the area. An extensive geochemical survey for 64 elements revealed the presence of porphyry copper, gold, silver, lead, moly, zinc and several rare earth elements. Mining throughout the region began in the late 19th century and led to the rise of legendary boomtown Tombstone, Arizona. Many of the old mining sites, and what is now Liberty Stars unmined land, reside within or adjacent to a large volcanic and intrusive geologic feature known as a caldera. These caldera structures are present throughout southern Arizona, making the region one of the richest porphyry copper areas on the planet.

(WMC-TV) The liberty Bowl recently received an extreme makeover. Those passing by might notice brighter lighting, new artificial turf, and an updated scoreboard.

But those are just a few of the upgrades at the new and improved Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

One of the most visible upgrades is the new jumbotron, which is one of the largest in any college stadium in the country.

And it wouldn't be an extreme makeover without having a reveal party to celebrate the "facelift."
