The Anatomy of a Pandemic – tntribune.com

NASHVILLE, TN We were warned but stuck our heads in the sand and didnt see the pandemic coming. Suddenly we found ourselves at war against an invisible enemy. The first casualty was the truth.

It will all be over by Easter. We have plenty of PPEs. African Americans are immune. The virus only hits old people. It wont tank the economy. And so on.

The amount of bull thats been shoveled for public consumption is greater the higher up the chain of command you go. Nobody can beat the President for tripe and outright chicanery. Governor Bill Lee followed close behind, apparently believing what Washington was telling him and by telling us the feds were going to provide enough medical supplies to handle the crisis if we needed them. We needed them and they didnt supply them. They didnt have any.

Then there was Mayor Cooper who told reporters that we had plenty of resources to beat the virus. And the ever-optimistic Dr. Alex Jahangir, who, after being asked several times How many test kits do you have? eventually evinced that he was happy about the number. It took him three weeks to get happy.

The lack of candor from official sources has created a credibility gap on top of a public health crisis. Officials seem to be doing better lately with the truth. Now they are telling us social distancing has flattened the infection curve, so maybe there is reason for optimism.

Should we believe them? There are two competing models out there, one by Vanderbilt University epidemiologists and another by University of Washington researchers at theInstitute for Health Metrics and Evaluation(IHME), a global health research center.

Both models used the same data from Wuhan, China, where the pandemic began, and both say it will last much longer if social distancing is stopped too soon. But they differ by several weeks when they predict the peak will be reached in Tennessee. One says we will reach the peak in April; the other says May or even June.

A Vanderbilt University Health Policy expert told the Tribune that the two teams made some different assumptions when they constructed their models. The IHME model predicted an earlier peak by assuming Tennessee would keep the number of deaths low as doctors in China did in Wuhan. The Vanderbilt team assumed Tennessee would have a comparable number of hospitalized patients to Wuhan.

But by grafting the Wuhan experience onto Tennessee, the IHME model essentially makes an even more optimistic assumption than our optimistic scenarioand thus arrives at that peak earlier, said Dr. John Graves, Professor of Health Policy at Vanderbilt University.

Bad or incomplete data are two reasons why scientific predictions can be quite different. With COVID-19 it comes back to the lack of test kits. The way scientists accurately predict the spread of disease is by looking for it randomly in a population. If you only test sick people, as we did in the U.S. because we didnt have enough tests, you wont get an accurate picture. And most importantly, you wont get a handle on the number of asymptomatic carriers of the virus who can spread it but do not show symptoms.

So without good data, health policies like quarantines and stay-at-home orders are responding blindly and are likely to be ineffective or at the very least inefficient. Resources can be placed where they are most needed if you know where the disease is spreading fastest.

So, widespread testing as well as social distancing, isolation, and quarantine should be part and parcel of a good public health response to an epidemic like COVID-19.We did not do that in the U.S. and now we have more COVID-19 victims than any other country in the world.

As of April 18, 6,762 have tested positive, 719 people in Tennessee have been hospitalized with the disease, and 145 people have died. Graves and his colleagues say lifting restrictions too soon would keep doubling serious cases every few days until by mid-May 50,000 people would need to be hospitalized.

Only a fraction of the people who have been infected have been tested, said Graves. He said a sustained drop in cases is necessary before social distancing should be relaxed. The model that his Vanderbilt colleagues created for COVID-19 is specific to Tennessee.

We have to think about this like a multi-stage relay race where social distancing can begin to pass off to the next leg of the relay and that means reliable and speedy testing and contact tracing. Absent that we risk have an epidemic surge out of control once again, he said.

Health authorities are talking about testing more widely but the medical protocol to only test symptomatic patients is still in place throughout Davidson County and throughout most of the country. The risk of a worsening epidemic will continue until we find out exactly who is positive. Without knowing that all-important information, any prediction about when the peak has been reached or if we can go back to work, or whether the epidemic will return later is impossible to know for sure.

Vanderbilt researchers recently updated their model and it shows the virus slowing down in some regions but not in others.

Governor Lee is talking about slowly opening up the state to get the economy running again. We will address these issues in an upcoming article. Stay tuned to the next chapter in the COVID-19 story.

Breaking down the anatomy of a fantasy football dynasty trade | PFN – Pro Football Network

-This past week, in one of Pro Football Networks dynasty fantasy football leagues, a trade went down that caused quite the controversy. League members and website lead editors, Ryan Gosling and Corey Ashburn, decided to move two young quarterbacks in a 12-team, Superflex, full point PPR league. The trade included a number of pieces but focused around Dak Prescott and Carson Wentz. Was it a fair trade? Can you compare an emphasis on value to the confidence of a teams offense?

By breaking down the anatomy of the trade, we get a better understanding of the mindset of both owners involved. Can fandom doom a fantasy team? Or is value overrated? These are questions that this trade tries to answer, while we open the discussion to fellow fantasy football enthusiasts. Who won this trade? Well, only time will tell. But lets break down why both owners are pumping their chests in victory.

Before we can break down the trade, it is important to add context. Merely mentioning the players does not give you, the reader, enough information to decide if this move made sense. In this specific league, our rosters consist of the following:

1QB, 1SF, 2RBs, 2WRs, 1TE, 2Flex with 21 bench spots for a total of a 30-man roster.

Both Ryan and Corey were quite active throughout the draft process, with Ashburn implementing an interesting trade back theory. Ryan traded up to get his guy as a strategy.

Dak Prescott, Matthew Stafford, Jameis Winston, and Jacoby Brissett

I am a bit worried about my QB depth. If Winston doesnt land a starting spot somewhere this offseason, I could be looking at only two usable QBs this year. I do not like to feel this uncomfortable in a Superflex league.

My running back room is bad. I plan on using my rookie draft capital to correct this, but for now, Im staring at the worst RB group in the league.

Similar to the RBs, my WR depth is not good enough. I love my top four, but if one of them goes down to injury, I will struggle in my flex position. The 2020 WR class is loaded with depth, and I plan on using some draft capital to help this as well.

Looking up and down my roster, there isnt one position that I am worried about. I feel like I have good depth in general, but could use a bonified starting tight end, especially considering this league has a premium at the position.

My wide receiver class is quite young, but they each have a high upside. However, they are all facing some questions marks at the QB position. Will Joe Burrow develop a connection with Boyd, or will he prefer Green? What about Curtis Samuel and his new QB Teddy Bridgewater? Calvin Ridley and Tyler Lockett are both starting caliber, but behind them, there is a concern.

Also, having traded away my first-round rookie pick in this years draft to move up, I dont have any capital to add to my team. My first selection isnt until the beginning of the second round, and there could be a lack of starting-caliber rookies at that point. As some in the sports world would say, I cornered myself into a win now mode.

My top two QBs rival any other group in the league. I love Daks durability, weapons, and rushing ability. Stafford was having a career year before his back injury last season, and I think he can be a top-10 QB for another three to five years if he stays healthy.

My RB1 and starting WRs are awesome. I am high on Sanders this year and landed his handcuff in Boston Scott, so I feel secure with one starting RB spot. My group of Godwin, Allen, Beckham Jr., and Gallup is the best four-some in the league.

My draft capital is what the kids like to call fire. I believe I will be able to land two of the top-three stud RBs in this class at 1.04 and 1.06. Then, I should be able to pick BPA with my three second-round picks.

Before the trade, I liked both my quarterback and running back situations. At QB, I have Matt Ryan, who is as solid as they come, and Carson Wentz. Wentz, although very injury prone, could be a top-10 fantasy weapon if the team decides to give him some weapons. Ryan plays on a team with a terrible defense and could have to air it out often. Pairing him with Calvin Ridley set em up for success.

When looking at my RBs, I have two of the remaining workhorse backs in the league. With so many running back by committees in the NFL, securing both Barkley and Fournette pretty much guarantees production.

Behind my starters, I have two other backs who could be starters next season. Jordan Howard currently has very little competition in Miamis backfield and will likely be paired up with one of the more promising backs coming out of the draft. I still think he has promise and could be a good dump-off option for Fitzpatrick. Henderson is going to be competing for touched with Malcolm Brown in L.A., but I believe he has the talent to become the lead guy.

Continue to the next page to see how the trade process went down.

Students in the University of Maine at Fort Kent nursing program, both on the Fort Kent campus and at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, will have a high-tech new way to learn about human anatomy when classes resume after the COVID-19 state of emergency.

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine Students in the University of Maine at Fort Kent nursing program, both on the Fort Kent campus and at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, will have a high-tech new way to learn about human anatomy when classes resume after the COVID-19 state of emergency.

The universities have acquired two state-of-the art Anatomage tables. These tables, used by the worlds top medical schools and hospitals and featured by TEDTalks and PBS, are described as the most technologically advanced 3D visualization systems for anatomy and physiology education.

We are pleased to have such a powerful teaching tool available for our professors and students, said Erin Soucy, UMFK dean of undergraduate nursing. Rather than seeing a picture in a textbook, students see a realistic, 3-D picture of body systems, organs, and even cells. Learning is an interactive process and students remember more when they can link content to a visual image.

UMFKs bachelor of science in nursing program, which is also delivered on the UMPI campus, offers nursing classes, labs, and clinicals and strives to deliver as many hands-on and high-tech activities as possiblefrom mock hospital suites filled with equipment theyll see in a real hospital setting to human patient simulator mannequins.

The program delivered at UMPI is designed to meet the needs of place-bound students those who arent able to travel to Fort Kent to complete the BSN degree due to family and work responsibilities as well as to address nursing workforce challenges.

UMPI President Ray Rice said, This will give students an absolute advantage in terms of understanding anatomy and body systems and being able to apply that knowledge once they are in the career field.

The highly interactive tables features a life-sized display, touch-screen technology and 3D imagery, allowing users to view photorealistic anatomical structures layer by layer and from every angle. These structures are based on thousands of real human cases that have been digitized in the highest possible resolution.

Both tables have arrived at their respective campuses and the nursing faculty are preparing them for use in class.

Having access to this state-of-the-art medical technology has a profound impact on nursing students, as well as students enrolled in all UMFK/UMPI programs, said Stacy Thibodeau, UMFK assistant professor of nursing who delivers classes at UMPI. The incorporation of the Anatomage Table into our lectures and labs allows for a virtual learning experience of tomorrow, to be experienced in todays UMFK/UMPI classroom. This is an exceptional learning and diagnostic resource that is FDA approved.

For information about the UMFK BSN program, call 207-834-7600 or email umfklife@maine.edu. To learn more about the program delivered on the UMPI campus, call 207-768-9532 or email umpi-admissions@maine.edu.

Wild Turkey Anatomy and Physiology – OutdoorHub

Turkeys are always a challenge to hunt, but their anatomy and physiology is just as intriguing. Some think they are ugly, while others appreciate the array of colors and behavior. Heck, they were almost our national bird. So, as you gear up to chase these illusive birds in their natural habitat, take some time to familiarize yourself with some basic wild turkey anatomy and physiology.

The head of a turkey is a colorful cornucopia. Composed of the caruncles, wattles, snood and dewlap, all are used for different purposes. The changing of color and shape in males emanates aggression, sexual arousal and overall mood. It is a signpost for other turkeys. There are also tiny hairs and feathers around the ear to aid in hearing.

The main fighting tool of a tom is the spur. Since they do all the fighting for the right to breed, they are only present in males. Gobblers jump and use their spurs as daggers to attempt to injure the competition. Spur length is good teller of age, too. Toms with spurs longer than an inch are mature birds, while toms with spurs an inch or less are usually two-year old birds.

A turkeys beard is made from the same material as a rhinoceros hornkeratin. Keratinized epithelial cells are cells filled with the protein keratin. In this case, feathers in toms (and in some hens) keratinize and form the beard. So, a beard is essentially a collection of specialized feathers.

Archibald Rutledge once said, the turkeys eyes are such that he can see a bumblebee turn a somersault on the verge of the horizon. Turkeys can see as a human would while using 8-10x zoom on a pair of binoculars. They also do not have to focus in on objects. If they can see it, it is always in focus. Being able to see in a 300-degree range helps, too. The only spot they cannot see without turning their heads is directly behind them.

Oh, and unlike deer they can see color very well. Good luck.

A turkeys breast is what we call white meat, while its thighs and legs are dark meat. Why is this? White meat is made of light muscle. These muscles are meant for short burst of energy and lack a lot of hemoglobin to sustain activity for too long. Dark meat is composed of dark muscle, which contains high levels of hemoglobin and help sustain a lot of activity for long periods of time. Turkeys walk way more than they fly, so that is why the meat of the legs is dark and the breast is white. (This is why the breast of migratory birds like ducks is dark, FYI).

What interesting things have you noticed about a turkeys anatomy and physiology?

The detailed anatomy of the S&p 500 upswing – FXStreet

Todays extensive article will evaluate the week that just passed, and examine the health of the S&P 500 advance. Well look both at various credit market metrics, and at the key S&P 500 sectors and ratios. Putting the pieces of the puzzle together will enable us to make profitable trading decisions as the bullish fever is rising. Just how much is that sentiment justified?

Lets start with the S&P 500 itself, and check the weekly and daily perspectives (charts courtesy of http://stockcharts.com).

The weekly chart shows how far the rally has reached. The breakdown below the red support zone marking the Dec 2018 lows has been invalidated, and the subsequent bears push lower has failed. Last two weeks brought us higher prices, but the upside momentum decreased in last week as the bears reemerged.

Were the volume behind the upswing larger, it would make the price recovery more credible. Its true that the weekly indicators are by and large on their buy signals, but how much can they be trusted?

Lets check the detailed daily chart to find out.

Fridays session opened with a bullish gap well above the 50% Fibonacci retracement, and while the sellers took price action back to its proximity, the buyers staged a strong comeback in the sessions final hour. Failing that, many of the below bullish-leaning points couldnt have been made.

Encouragingly, it happened on higher volume than what characterized the last two down days. While the volume was slightly higher than that of Tuesdays push higher, it was lower than last Fridays one (that was the day when the 50% Fibonacci retracement was first tested). This raises some doubts about the bulls ability to extend their gains considerably higher in the coming days.

The daily indicators are getting increasingly extended, with both CCI and RSI struggling to keep from rolling over. Stochastics overbought readings will arguably take longer than it is the case with CCI to flash its upcoming sell signal. These increase the likelihood of the S&P 500 taking a breather shortly.

Just like weve seen quite a few bullish gaps in the recent days and early April, bears may respond with some of their own making (and today may be first such day as the S&P 500 futures trade at around 2825 as we speak). Remember, many of those declining days in March were characterized by sudden bursts of buying within the final hour this pattern is not exclusive to the up days since the Mar 23 low.

Not only have prices reached the 50-day moving average thats serving as resistance, but also the lower border of the sizable early March bearish gap, which is reinforced by the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement at its upper end.

As we move to the credit markets assessment, lets bring up our Thursdays intraday commentary as it remains valid also today and given the S&P 500 closing prices, even more so:

() the credit market metric of high yield corporate bonds to short-term Treasuries keeps trading down. That serves to confirm thin air as the S&P 500 challenges 2800, and actually points to a disconnect between the two markets. And its the bond guys who usually get it right, which is one more reason apart from the fundamental coronavirus fallout, why we expect renewed selling in stocks.

So, what about corporate bonds to Treasuries? While the investment-grade corporate bonds (LQD ETF) keep trading in a tight range much closer to their recent highs than the high-yield ones (HYG ETF), its the riskier ones that should be leading higher in a risk-on rally. Otherwise, it would represent flight to quality along the lines of Treasuries outperformance (SHY and IEI ETFs). In other words, we would still be in a risk-off environment.

The ratio of corporate junk bonds to short-term Treasuries didnt start leading higher on Friday either. Its still trading well below the Fed $2.3T bombshell highs, pointing to the defensive nature of the S&P 500 rally.

Talking short-dated Treasuries, lets see with what kind of veracity they moved lower as the S&P 500 moved above the 50% Fibonacci retracement.

Thats not what we would call a turning point or downside break exactly. Such action supports the notion of risk aversion.

Examination of the S&P 500 performance by various key sectors and their ratios should help us refine the picture.

Well start with the leading metric of risk-taking: the ratio of financials to utilities.

As the ratio appears ready to beat late-March lows and take on the March panic bottom next, it shows that financials as the risk-on asset class are declining relative to the defensive utilities sector.

Are utilities (XLU ETF) really as strong here just as Treasuries would imply? What are the other bright spots in the S&P 500 rally? And what about financials (XLF ETF)? Lets check all three.

Utilities are clearly among the best-performing S&P 500 sectors. As theyre consolidating their post-Fed announcement gains, they havent performed as well as the short-term Treasuries (SHY ETF) or investment-grade corporate bonds (LQD ETF), but still have outperformed the credit markets (HYG and HYD ETFs).

Healthcare is a star performer among the S&P 500 sectors, closing higher than any day in March. While the daily indicators are extended, the volume doesnt warn of an impending reversal.

Having repelled the selling pressure to close the opening gap (just like S&P 500) in the final hour of trading, technology shares are another sector leading the S&P 500 higher. Apart from the extended daily indicators, the key watchout is the volume thats trending down since the second half of March. This shows that the bulls arent as strong as they appear to be. Remember, tops form when theres no one left to buy. Just how close are we to this point?

Financials are clearly lagging behind. Similarly to the leaves that fall off a tree one-by-one as autumn progresses, a stock market rally stalls and rolls over as more and more sectors refuse to move higher. In other words, a rising number of troops dont follow the generals uphill.

Even if the S&P 500 rally goes on a bit longer in the short-term, this constellation doesnt bode well for its prospects. Neither does the weak performance of the energy sector shown below.

Theyre the laggards, and over at Oil Trading Alerts, were making a killing shorting oil as you can see in its most recent Alert. Such a weak performance is a bad omen for stocks, despite the low weight of the energy sector in the index.

Kicking off with the financials-to-utilities ratio, weve have already covered the three top-share S&P 500 sectors (technology, healthcare and financials). But there is one more highly informative ratio to look at. Its the consumer discretionaries to consumer staples.

The caption says it all. The ratio isnt yet trending up, and reveals the badly-shaken consumer. It reflects the stunning drop of Wednesdays retail sales data (changed consumer attitudes and outlook), and doesnt really point to its turnaround in May. Thats similar to what we see in the financial sector banks are raising the loan losses provisions as the pain is slowly but surely cascading through the system. The current earnings projections are also overly optimistic, which goes to show that should stocks keep trading at these levels, theyll become relatively more expensive than in the recent past as the P/E ratio would show. Coming back to the discretionaries to staples, it shows no return of the consumer just yet and highlights caution.

Its totally appropriate to quote our Fridays lengthy analysis:

() how come stocks are showing such strength amid the divergencies and faced with grim fundamental data?

Just as weve seen late last week flattening of the coronavirus curve in some of the hotspots such as NYC, yesterdays unemployment claims (as unprecedented as the figure is) have come below the 6000K+ mark of two prior weeks. Is it a satisfactory flattening of the labor market curve? The bleeding is there,
sizable and without an end in sight really. More layoffs are coming as the cascading through the real economy proceeds. Even the Feds Beige Book dating to April 15 is saying so.

Talking flattening of the coronavirus curve, the news on the ground doesnt fully support the optimism. Tuesday and Wednesday brought us the record number of coronavirus casualties, with 2,364 and 2,371 dead respectively. If thats the new normal, it shows that weve reached no US-wide plateau yet, despite the lockdown in hardest-hit NYC going into effect on Mar 22. Thats quite a few weeks already and thats the case for the overwhelming majority of other states too.

In fact, the lockdown contribution to halting the exponential spread might be exaggerated, as Mark Twain would himself say regarding reports of his death. Take a look at the comparisons to Sweden, where no lockdown has been instituted, and the country remains open for business. The country is faring reasonably well on a per capita basis.

Trump understands the need to reopen the economy, and has earlier in March called for it to happen by Easter. While that hasnt been the case, the idea has gained traction also within Democratic strongholds on the East and West Coasts. While the governors may disagree on timing, theyre moving in the same direction.

This brings us to the catalyst of yesterdays aftermarket upswing in the S&P 500. It has been known already on Wednesday that the President plans to unveil federal guidelines to reopen America for business. And the moment of glory came late yesterday Eastern Time.

But where is the beef, as the memorable Wendys ad says?

The offered guidelines are about letting some US states and employers to do away with most social distancing measures within several weeks. Discussing preconditions and stages of relaxation, the document is exactly what its called a guideline. In other words, its a federal outline.

Please remember that its the States Governors that are responsible for the action on the ground. All the lockdowns have been initiated by Governors, and sometimes even Mayors. None originated at the federal level. While the Trump guidelines are sending an important message, its impact lies in the PR arena as it steals the spotlight while nothing groundbreaking has just yet happened statewide.

While the S&P 500 futures like it and are clinging to most of the overnight gains (trading around 2865 currently), its far from a safe bet that the courage to start returning life to normal wont backfire, and that the US wont experience another sharp increase in new infections. Look no further than to Singapore for a second wave of the outbreak. The situation in Spain is again worsening after allowing the estimated 300K workers to resume their roles.

Coming back to the Opening Up America Again guidelines, do they mean that the consumer is coming back in a big way?

Were doubtful, and had this to say about the recovery prospects:

() In short, the V-shaped recovery is a fantasy. Weve discussed the disruptions in our Sundays special Stock Trading Alert, and encourage you to read it if you hadnt done so already.

Take a look at China overnight, theyve reported the quarterly GDP figures. The drop of -6.8% is unprecedented, and their fixed asset investment and retail sales still keep falling like a hard rock on a year-on-year basis. We fully expect a similar dynamic to play out in the US as well.

These points remain valid, and weve seen resurgence of cases in Japan as the Land of the Rising Sun declares national emergency and the UK extends lockdown for at least another three weeks. Meanwhile in the US, ramped up coronavirus testing on a per capita basis would sharpen the picture

Many governors seek more test kits and testing so as to move forward with reopening the economies. Getting past the peak doesn't mean that new infections and deaths would plummet to zero just like that. The public is waking up to the economic damage, and weve seen certain protests already. These go to show that the return to status quo ante will be a long process where pressing a button doesnt translate into the economy springing back to life overnight. Its not only in the US the uncertainties regarding reopening for business persist globally.

Were in the earnings season, with heavy reporting and guidance this week, and even more so the coming one. Markets optimistic assessment will meet the on-the-ground reality of dealing with the economic disruptions, apart from the expect bunch of incoming data.

Still within Fridays Alert, we went on to explore the weekly and daily message copper is sending. The metal with PhD. in economics closed up on the day, supporting the S&P 500 upswing. While extended, the red metal can still move higher in the short run. But is it out of the woods, pointing to a continuing recovery in the S&P 500?

Lets check another metric of the risk-on/risk-off the copper to gold ratio.

While the ratio gapped higher and can clearly add to its gains in the short-term, it just illustrates the deep fall off the cliff, supporting the conclusion that stocks are still far from sounding the all-clear.

Q: I am reading about trouble in the European Bond market (negative rates have destroyed it), and the possible imposition of a digital currency there. Germany and the Netherlands might be forced to shoulder the debt. Do you follow this and factor it in in some way? Along with this is the Repo market and the Feds juggling act to balance it. So there are many macro-economic forces at play here.

A: The coronavirus crisis is putting strains on the European debt market, and Italian debt market is actually among the biggest ones in the world. The rise in Italian yields brings back the memories of PIIGS crisis with the familiar fault line between the Club Med countries and the richer North. Weve seen it in the failed coronabonds negotiations. Were certainly paying attention also to the gentle nudges towards cashless society these are all being discounted in the market action on an ongoing basis. Similarly to the Repo crisis and pre-corona strains in some of the incoming US data, there are many moving parts in this saga. As the market decides what to listen to and how to interpret it, you can count on us to bring the truly breaking news and their impact to your attention.

Q: it would be helpful to discuss the impending impact of financial crises.

A: As there are parallels between the 2008 and current situation, lets take a look at the Great Recession and stock market performance back then. There have been many false dawns and great volatility, especially in the months of October and November. In the Hope and Change sentiment of the day, stocks scored many sharp rallies in the short run as bad economic news kept coming in. But early in March 2009, theyve stopped reacting to poor data that kept pouring in long after the March 09 bottom.

And we expect it to be the case regarding the coronavirus crisis as well. Again, the stock market will reach the bottom earlier than the real economy does. Leaving aside the question whether we have reached the bottom on March 23 or not (we actually might), the risk of a downswing remains high. Markets dont just come off all-time highs without developing some kind of a trading range next.

Summing up, the S&P 500 added to opening gaps gains in the final hour of trading, which certainly helped in brightening the short-term outlook for the bulls. The breakout above the 50% Fibonacci retracement stands a chance as the 50-day moving average and the lower border of the sizable early March bearish gap (reinforced by the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement at its upper end) are being tested. As the credit markets continue to underperform, the S&P 500 rally is being led by defensive sectors and technology. The financials-to-utilities and discretionaries-to-staples ratios dont paint a picture of lasting price recovery. Neither does the copper-to-gold ratio. While we expect stocks to roll over to the downside as the coronavirus fallout gets worse bef
ore getting better, that neednt happen tomorrow or the day after. The drive to reopen the economy may come back to bite the decision-makers as the flattened coronavirus curve still appears elusive. Sideways trading followed by renewed selling pressure taking on the March lows, is the optimistic scenario here.

Justice League Anatomy: The 5 Weirdest Things About Hawkman’s Body – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Since the Justice League is home to many of DC's greatest heroes, it's easy to lose track of Hawkman. While his signature wings might not be as flashy as some of the team's other stalwarts or its newer members, Carter Hall -- the latest reincarnation of the Egyptian prince who was cursed to live through an endless cycle of death and resurrection -- has a lengthy DC history both on his own and alongside DC's other heroes.

With a history unlike any other Hawkman has accomplished feats that would make even the strongest aliens blush using his unique anatomy. Now, we're taking a closer look at what makes this winged warrior a fearsome fighter in any age and on any world.

RELATED: DC's Strongest Hawkman Was Just EMBARRASSED by Its Scariest Hawkman

While Hawkman might be named for his wings, every version of the character wasn't born with them. However, Carter Halls prosthetic wings do more than just complete his look, they provide him with flight stabilization and are laced with Nth metal.

Nth metal is an alloy native to Thanagar, homeworld of the Thanagarians -- the alien race which Hawkman was a member of in a past life. It can be formed into various tools and bestows abilities to the user who wields it, including but not limited to anti-gravity -- which allows the user to lift heavier objects than they would normally -- and flight. Halls wings have been shown to cross the 200 MPH mark and can fly indefinitely, which isn't bad considering he flaps them using his shoulders.

Part of Carter Halls long, convoluted history is the fact that hes very, very mortal. An ancient Egyptian prince by the name of Khufu Kha-Tarr stumbled upon a Thanagarian ship that contained Nth metal, and his exposure to it altered his existence. He was doomed or destined to be forever reincarnated alongside his lover, Chay-Ara whenever they pass. Unfortunately for the star crossed duo, they are joined by their consistently lethal high priest Hath-Set, the man who cursed the three of them in a never-ending cycle of death and reincarnation by repeatedly killing them both in each lifetime.

After a few millennia of death and rebirth, the current incarnation of Hawkman, Carter Hall, uses his Nth metal gear to stand alongside some of DCs heavy hitters. While it may seem like a disadvantage knowing he is about to be murdered by the same individual over and over again in a new form, its also a strength knowing death isn't likely to show up from anywhere else. Hes able to withstand falling from great heights, capable of handling extreme temperatures and even going toe to toe with the likes of Black Adam, someone who could give Superman a run for his money.

RELATED: DC Introduces a Very, VERY Different Hawkman in April

While Hawkman isn't quite on par with someone like Superman or Martian Manhunter, Hall is capable of carrying hundreds of pounds into the air with relative ease. He has also been shown to easily rip apart cars in addition to being able to fight for hours on end.

In one of the many Hawkman lifetimes, he was a police officer on Thanagar- a planet with much more gravity than that of Earth. When that version of Hawkman arrived on Earth, his strength was amplified due to the sudden lack of gravity restrictions. Combined with his Nth metal gear, his strength would become far greater than "the strength of 12 men" which he was said to have in his earliest appearances.

In keeping with the bird theme of his power set, Hawkmans eyes are keenly tuned to the environment around him and have allowed him to perform such feats as watching the Flash vibrate through walls before he was completely visible. With his enhanced eyesight comes a faster reaction time and of course, better reflexes.

Boosted by Nth metal, his eyes also have the acuity to track quickly moving objects like a hummingbird's flapping wings, which also helps him use firearms and projectile weapons. As a result, hes quite the sharpshooter, and he was Hannibal Hawkes, a Wild West vigilante who was known for his accuracy, in one of his past lives.

Due to his aforementioned habit of dying and rebirth, Hawkman has had plenty of lifetimes to fine-tune his tactical senses and skills. Much like the X-Men's Moira MacTaggert, Carter Hall has used death and reincarnation as a learning experience to make himself even more of a fierce warrior. His skills are well-regarded enough that he was selected to bring down Batman by Lex Luthor. His knowledge isnt limited to combat, and his unique condition has made him one of the most prominent historians and archaeologists in the DC Universe.

He has also used his ingenuity for more altruistic endeavors like creating flying vehicles and managing food supplies during wartime. While its tempting to write him off as just another hero sub-par in comparison to the Justice Leagues main roster, its always important to realize just how much unique versatility Hawkman brings to the table. With Hawkman rumored to be featured in the upcoming Black Adam film, it may not belong until Hawkman stops being the DC Universe's best-kept secret for much longer

You don't get a name like Superman without being anything less than extraordinary -- and the world's most famous superhero certainly earns his stripes. While Clark Kentmay seem like a typical Midwestern Kansas boy (though maybe more square-jawed and chiseled), what's going on under his cape and blue tights is far from the results of simple farm work. He's called the Last Son of Krypton because he's a one-of-a-kind alien and nowhere is that clearer thanin his anatomy.

There's a whole lot of weirdness going on with any characterwho has so many decades under his belt, butCBR narrowed the following list down to the five absolute weirdest aspects of Superman's anatomy. You may think you know every inch of Superman, but do you know the back of his hand like the back of your hand?

RELATED:Avengers Anatomy: 5 Weird Facts About Iron Man's Body, Explained

One of the most important things to understand about Superman is just how much he's changed over the years. When he first debuted in 1938, he didn't fly like and he didn't have heat vision -- but what wastrue then and remains true now is that he's one of the strongest beings in the universe.

The original explanation for Superman's astonishing strength and durability came couched in his alien origins, with the gravity of Krypton supposedly several times that of Earth. Whereas modern adaptations of the character fall back on explanations of how he absorbs energy from the Sun, in those early days he simply had denser bones and muscles after millenia of evolution in a harsher environment made him that way. No wonder he turned out so super -- a simple game of hopscotch on Krypton becomes leaping tall buildings in a single bound on Earth.

After writer John Byrne brought his own sweeping changes to the character in the late 1980s, the gravity explanation for the Man of Steel's powers started to fall to the wayside. Over the years Superman had developed far too many powers that a different gravity or atmosphere just couldn't explain. So, an alternative explanation was born: Superman gets his powers from thesun.

Superman's cells absorb their energy passively from Earth's yellow sun. Since Krypton had a red sun, none of the inhabitants there experienced such phenomenal powers throughout the doomed planet's existence. The reservoir of power allows Superman to perform all of his greatest feats. Writers like Grant Morrison inAll-Star Superman clung onto the detail to enhance Superman's mythological aspect. Far from a powered human, such depictions portray him as a modern day sun god.

All the energy stored in Superman's cells doesn't go to waste. Although it most often manifests itself in his strength or his flight, there is a much deadlier ability lurking just beneath the surface of his lovely baby blues. The Blue Boy Scout can release solar energy directly from his eyes with his famous heat vision, which is the result of a photonucleic effect with deadly consequences.

The lenses of Superman's eyes allow him to adjust the aperture of the blastto widen or focus the beam more acutely. Interestingly, his heat vision is actually tied in with his X-Ray vision: Both release different forms of radiation. They manifest as different powers because Superman has so much control over his abilities.

It's probably impossible for a character like Superman to exist so many years without there being at least oneFantastic Voyage-style adventure where other heroes venture into his body. That time came during a moment of crisis when the world's greatest hero stood on the brink of death.Superman took on a green hue after suffering from severe kryptonite poisoning from an unknown source. So, the shrinking hero Atom, Superboy and Steel endeavored to investigate the matter as closely as possible by taking a trip inside Superman's body to discover justhow freaking his inner workings got.

Not only is Superman's super immune system a threat to the heroes -- which helps explainwhy Superman so rarely gets sick -- but there areentire nuclear processes taking place within his body. Superman's body is like one giant, self-perpetuating battery and maintaining the whole system requires a super immune system no one would want to cross.

Similarto his eyes, Superman's lungs actually help explain how seemingly disparate powers all originate from the same source. Superman's ability to hold his breath for unbelievable amounts of time, his ability to breath it back out in massive gales of wind and his ability to freeze the breath to cocoon his foes in ice all seem disconnected. However, it all ties together on the inside.

Superman's super strong muscles explain his ability to expel the air from his lungs with such force, whereas their hyper density explains their ability to withstand to the punishment they take holding his breath for so long during intergalactic trips. While he still needs the oxygen, his body is extremely efficient at processing it and expelling carbon-dioxide because of the nuclear processes taking place within his cells. The sun's fuel also gives his body something to work with besides oxygen. Lastly, the same control he shows with his heat vision is present in his lungs -- he holds super cooled air in a specific portion of his lungs and exhales it at his leisure as ice.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Creator Shonda Rhimes Shares How She Was Inspired by Oprah Winfrey – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Media mogul Shonda Rhimes is known for her blockbuster prime time shows including Greys Anatomy, Scandal, and How To Get Away With Murder. After inking a multi-million dollar deal with Netflix, the famous producer is now creating a suite of shows for the mega popular streaming service.

Rhimes has shared that she had a love for storytelling when she was a child, though there werent many people in the television industry to whom she could relate. The Private Practice creator revealed that talk show icon Oprah Winfrey provided Rhimes with the inspiration and hope she needed.

In June, Rhimes spoke with Variety on the milestone Greys Anatomy hit in becoming the longest running medical drama in television history. The TV producer credited the shows loyal fans for staying tuned since the series premiere.

Its surreal. I mean it truly is a surreal feeling to know that that shows been going for as long as its been going, Rhimes told Variety. Ellen Pompeo [who portrays Meredith Grey] and I talk about that every once in a while. This idea that something that we thought maybe would go a season is still strong, I feel incredibly lucky. Those fans have been amazing.

Rhimes is known for creating strong female characters in all of her shows, hoping to portray women in a realistic and empowering light. When asked if she considers herself a feminist, Rhimes focused more on the importance of equality rather than labels.

I dont even know if I can answer that question, she said. I think that given the fact that a feminist is a woman who believes that men and women should be treated equally, I think Ive probably been a feminist since the day I was born. Thats not really a consideration in the household I was raised in.

While Rhimes had early aspirations of creating stories, she couldnt relate to anyone in the spotlight when she was growing up.

I always knew I wanted to be a writer, she explained. I always knew I wanted to be a storyteller, but there was nobody out there who seemed anything like me.

The Scandal creator shared that she saw media icon Oprah Winfrey as a trailblazer for her. I gave a speech once at the Television Academy where I talked about the only woman I saw in television who looked a little bit different, who had a different body type, was Oprah when I was growing up, Rhimes recalled. And that was the one image of somebody who made me feel like, Oh, theres somebody out there. You can be something different.

As the mom of three daughters, Rhimes knows the demands of motherhood and the importance of being present. Experiencing the challenges of being a working mother first-hand, Rhimes is mindful to give her female cast members with kids the flexibility they need.

I think its important because women work and obviously were expecting women to have children and women to have lives, she told Variety. And we live in a society right now where its not an obvious thing where men are having children and staying home. So women have to figure out a way to be mothers and working mothers at the same time.

Rhimes believes in treating her cast members with the same respect she treats herself when it comes to the demands of parenting. Im a working mother. So Im not going to create a world in which its simpler for me than it is for the people that I work with, she said.

Rhimes show Bridgerton is set to be released this year on Netflix.

Grey’s Anatomy: 10 People Owen Hunt Should End Up With (Instead Of Teddy) – Screen Rant

It's been over a week since the season finale ofGrey's Anatomy and fans still can't get over that cliffhanger. While fans know nothing remains a secret forever, no one expected that Owen would find out about Teddy's infidelity over a voicemail. On the day of their wedding.Talk about a mood killer.

While Owen hasn't always been the perfect partner, most fans will agree that he deserves better and wouldn't blame him if he walked away. Especially since it's clear how Teddy isn't right for him. Want to know who is? Keep reading to discover 10 other people from Grey's AnatomywhoOwen should end up with instead!

One of the more obvious choices as to who Owen should end up with is Meredith. Although the General surgeon would never cross that boundary out of loyalty to Cristina (and Amelia), it wouldn't be a complete surprise. After all, the pair did become close friends in the aftermath of the plane crash, with Mere being one of the first people to find out about Megan.

If fans also take a closer look at the two, they will realize they have a lot more in common. They are both family-orientated, passionate about their careers, and have gone through their fair share of tragedy. It wouldn't be the worst thing if Mere chose Owen in the end.

This is a long shot but one romance that would have been interesting to watch would have been Owen and Izzie. Although the surgeons never spent much time together after the incident in "Life During Wartime," this is also a reason why they should have been paired up.

Izzie needed someone to show her that she couldn't always be in control. There were going to be moments that required spontaneity and quick thinking. Owen also needed someone likeIzzie who could help to bring him out of his depression. A missed opportunity, really.

Considering that he almost destroyed his marriage because of it, wouldn't it be interesting to find out what happened to the other woman? After all, he must have felt some sort of connection to her if it meant cheating on Cristina.

Although fans wouldn't be happy since it would be the ultimate betrayal to Cristina, it would make for some interesting TV if Owen and this mysterious third party met up again... especially if Meredith discovered that he was dating the woman he cheated with. Who knows, maybe they could have a lot more in common than we all think?

It's no secret that April and Owen shared a special bond. While their relationship started as a mentor-mentee, they soon developed a strong friendship after serving a tour in Iraq. After coming back from the war zone, April and Owen became each other's confidants, especially during April's second pregnancy.

What made Owen and April's relationship so special was how it was built on mutual understanding and respect. They got to know each other on a level nobody else could understand. If April wasn't happy with Matthew, a romance between her and Owen would have been interesting.

When Owen decided to take a job at Seattle-Grace, fans got to know his character more. One of the first things they learned was that he had been engaged to a school teacher, Beth Whitman. However, it was revealed that Owen had called off their engagement while he was on tour in Iraq.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: Why April & Owen Aren't Real Friends

While many have suspected that it was due to his PTSD, Owen is now in a different place so it may be worth him trying to reconnect. After all, she wouldn't be the same woman he saw 13 years ago.

One of the most surprising hook-ups had to be Owen and Carina's in Season 14. As Carina was finding her footing in Seattle, the OB/GYN caught the eye of many other surgeons - including Owen. First meeting at the intern mixer, the viewers find out that Owen and Carina spent the night together after Amelia walked in on them having breakfast.

However, nothing came of it as Carina shortly began a relationship with Arizona. While Carina is now in a relationship withStation 19's Maya Bishop, there's still a possibility the writers may revisit (depending on how many seasons are left).

Inhindsight, one of the worst mistakes Owen ever made was breaking up with Emma. For a brief couple of months, Owen was in a serious and committed relationship with Emma, who he met at the hospital's fundraiser. They were so serious that they even contemplated marriage and getting a place together.

However, they soon broke up when Owen claimed they wanted different things (when the truth was, he cheated on her with Cristina). It was a shame, especially as Emma wanted to start a family and become a stay-at-home mom. With Teddy and Owen on the verge of breaking up, maybe now is the time for them to reconnect.

While Amelia is happily in a relationship with Link, there was a time where she and Owen were too. Although their relationship started as a spur-in-moment, there were some times where they were happy too. Especially in season 14 and 15 when they decided to give their relationship another shot.

Amelia would have still been raising Leo with Owen if it wasn't for Teddy revealing her own pregnancy. Now that Amelia has changed her mind about her own future goals, maybe they will find their way back to one another down the line. That is if Amelia and Link don't work out.

Fans may not have considered it but Callie could have also been another love interest for Owen. If someone decided to rewatch the series again, they will notice that Callie and Owen were closer than we think. When Owen first arrived at Grey-Sloan, Callie took an instant liking to the trauma surgeon's brazen attitude.

Not only did the two have a successful work partnership, with them creating limbs for army veterans, but they also became close friends after their marriages broke down. If they had decided to get together, they could have been happy.

If there is one person Owen should end up with, it's Cristina. While the pair never seem to have gotten it right due to their different life-goals and ambitions, who's to say they couldn't make it work in twenty years? After all, Owen has achieved one of his dreams, raising Allison and Leo with Teddy and Amelia.

Cristina's career, too, has flourished in Switzerland. Who's to say they couldn't reunite when they both retire and the kids are grown. It's not like they ended on a bad note.

Grey’s Anatomy: 10 People Mark Sloan Should Have Ended Up With (Other Than Lexie) – Screen Rant

It's been eight years since the tragic plane crash, and Grey's Anatomy fans still mourn the loss of Mark and Lexie. Fans continue to shed hundreds of tears when it comes to their final episodes, with no one expecting the couple to die. Especially within months of each other.

RELATED: Grey's Anatomy: 10 Other Ways Alex Karev Could Have Left The Show

While Shonda Rhimes said she made the decision, so Mark and Lexie's love remained true, some fans have wondered who else could Mark have been with if Eric Dane renewed his contract. From Rose to Amelia Shepherd, here are 10 people Mark Sloan should have ended up with instead of Lexie.

In an alternative timeline, Mark andDerek would have made a great couple. Knowing each other since they were 10, fans believed Mark and Derek were the ultimate bromance. They were seen to have each other's backs and supported each other through the toughest of times. Even through their fights, they proved to have an unbroken bond.

It wouldn't have been hard if the writers decided to take their relationship to the next level, especially when most rom-coms see the "best friends to lovers trope." Mark and Derek could have easily become Grey-Sloan's ultimate power couple.

Instead of being the love interest of Derek, what if Rose was actually Mark's? It would have been far more interesting if Rose and Mark got together, especially when she had the potential to stop his womanizing ways. For one, she was one of the only women to not fall for his charms and was direct with him.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 5 Moments Mark & Lexie Proved They Were Couple Goals (& 5 That Proved They Weren't)

Instead of Bailey standing up for him during the nurses' strike, Rose and Mark could have shared an honest conversation about his bachelor lifestyle. A relationship between them could have also helped him get over Addison quicker.

It's no secret that Mark has had some romances with Derek's sisters. The first time this was revealed was when Nancy visited Seattle after the neurosurgeon didn't turn up to a couple of family events. As Derek was explaining why he and Addison split, Nancy encouraged him to forgive her, admitting to sleeping with Mark herself.

There seemed to be no hard feelings when they saw each other again, with Nancy greeting Mark warmly. It's not like a relationship wouldn't have worked, considering they did grow up together and got along well.

In season 6, fans were shocked when a young woman turned up at Seattle Grace, claiming to be Mark Sloan's daughter. However, the plastic surgeon had no qualms in accepting her into his life or supporting her. For the short spell she was there, Sloan and Mark did get along - until she decided to return home to her mother.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 10 Reasons Why Jackson And Mark Aren't Real Friends

Although no one knows where Sloan and Samantha went to after, it wouldn't have been surprising if they reconnected after the plane crash. Maybe Mark would have liked to be closer to his other daughter. It could have also led to a reunion between the parents.

Back in season 3, sparks looked like they were flying betweenMeredith and Mark. However, Mark took a step back once he realized that she was still interested in Derek. Any romantic inclinations towards one another soon disappeared once he began dating Lexie and she married Derek.

But could they have got together after Derek and Lexie's deaths? Through their grief, Meredith and Mark could have grown closer and forged a relationship on mutual understanding and respect. Everybody knows Mark would have been there to help Meredith with the kids.

It may have been one of the strangest combinations but, for a brief time, Mark and Teddy made it work. In season 6, Mark decided to pursue a relationship with Teddy after the plastic surgeon started to consider settling down. They seemed to have a natural chemistry and looked good together - until Mark messed it up by sleeping with Reed.

RELATED: Grey's Anatomy: 10 Reasons Why Derek And Mark Aren't Real Friends

While Teddy left shortly after Henry's death, their relationship could have been reformed out of grief and loneliness. Mark and Teddy then could have raised a family together.

In the aftermath of Lexie's death, one of the ideas the writers proposed was for Mark to reunite with Addison. As fans know, Mark had only fallen in love with two women - Lexie and Addison. Before moving to Seattle, Mark had been in a committed relationship with Addison before she decided to follow Derek.

Still, Mark and Addison continued to have an on-and-off-again relationship in the years to come. Since Mark had envisioned a future with Addison, it wouldn't have been a total waste if the writers had revisited it.

In season 7, fans were surprised when Mark hooked-up with Amelia, particularly as she was Derek's sister. However, no one could say that there wasn't any chemistry between them. If fans take a closer look at Amelia and Mark, they will see they have a lot in common.

RELATED: Grey's Anatomy: 10 Of Mark Sloan's Best Quotes

For instance, they are both arrogant about their appearance and surgical prowess. They could also be very charming and witty in the company of others. With Amelia permanently moving to Seattle in season 10, their one-night-stand could have become something more.

Before Mark (briefly) reunited with Lexie before their deaths, the plastic surgeon was seen to be in a relationship with an optometrist, Julie Canner. For some time, it looked like Mark was ready to settle with Julie, especially as they shared the same life goals.

She was really good with Sofia and she did genuinely love Mark. Although it didn't work out the first time around, it might have a few years down the line once Mark felt ready to move on with his life.

If Mark was to end up with someone other than Lexie, then why not Callie? The pair had the healthiest relationship on the show, even more so than some romantic pairings. If the writers decided to follow through with destroying Callie and Arizona's marriage, then maybe Mark could have moved with Callie to New York and reopened his practice.

After all, she is the mother of his child and his best friend, so it wouldn't have been completely out of the blue. Plus, Callie helped Mark to mature into a family man and achieve his lifelong dreams. Fans wouldn't have minded this ending.

Anatomy of an investigation: How India Todays madrasa sting misled its viewers – Newslaundry

By Allahs grace, we have enough space, Shaique told Newslaundry, adding that the madrasa was spread over 500 guz, or around 4,456 square feet.

In the context of the Tablighi Jamaat event, India TV praised the madrasas preparations to handle the coronavirus outbreak, showing how its students wore masks, and used sanitiser and soap.

Similarly, at Madrasa Islahul Mumineer, Jabir said the campus has three floors. Students have been given separate beds to keep distance.

Newslaundry asked Jabir and Shaique if they had any links to the Tablighi Jamaat or if they had attended its event.

Shaique denied having any connection to the Tablighi Jamaat. Jabir said, I used to go to Nizamuddin to buy toffees and handkerchiefs, but have no links with the Jamaat.

India Todays sting had Jabir saying that he had visited the markaz with his students, referring to the Tablighi Jamaats headquarters. Why did he say that? Jabir alleged: They probably edited my audio.

Did the story need a sting?

Sting operation as a way of breaking stories remains a contested idea, dividing news professionals about its efficacy and ethics. For those who support it, its a necessary evil in public interest, designed to expose those in power.

Every sting operation warrants crucial questions for the media outlets editor and reporter. One, is the story of such great public interest that it must be told through undercover reporting or it wont come out otherwise? Is the subject of the story so powerful that the only way to expose them is through a sting?

The India Today reporter who went undercover for the story gave Jabir and Shaique the same story. Jabir said, His name was Aamir. Dressed in a kurta like us, he came with someone I know on the pretext of helping out the kids during the lockdown.

India Todays investigation received backlash on Twitter, with many people pointing out that it was a blatant attempt to communalise a pandemic. Rahul Kanwal stuck to his guns.

Why ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Creator Shonda Rhimes Says There’s ‘No Such Thing as Balance’ When It Comes To Being a Working Mom – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Shonda Rhimes has created some of televisions hottest series including Greys Anatomy, Scandal, and How To Get Away with Murder. Now producing several shows for Netflix, Rhimes remains one of todays top talents in television development.

Fans of Rhimes may not realize that she is also the mom of three daughters Harper, Emerson, and Beckett. The media mogul has previously shared her thoughts on the challenges of being a working mom and how she tries to keep a realistic perspective.

Rhimes sat down with talk show icon Oprah Winfrey in 2006, shortly after the launch of Greys Anatomy. Rhimes daughter Harper was just 4 years old at the time, where the television show creator shared what prompted her to adopt her first child.

Id rented a farmhouse in Vermont, and I took a navel-gazing trip to think about my life, Rhimes told Winfrey. The day after I arrived, 9/11 hit. So I was sitting in the middle of nowhere, watching the whole terrible thing unfold on CNN. When I finally turned off the television, I thought, Well, if the worlds going to end, what are all the things Ive ever wanted to do? I went home and hired an adoption attorney.

Discussing the massive impact that 9/11 had on the country and how it gave many individuals the motivation to take stock of their lives, Rhimes told Winfrey that the tragedy was a huge wake up call for her.

Up until then, Id spent a lot of time asking myself, Whats wrong with my life? I was feeling so unhappy, Rhimes revealed. September 11 woke me up to the realization that there was nothing wrong with my life when I considered what really could be wrong. Nine months and two days after 9/11, my daughter was born. I named her after Harper Lee. Now I cant remember what I did with my time before she got here.

Rhimes went on to adopt daughter Emerson in 2012, and welcomed daughter Beckett in 2013 via surrogate. After inking her multi-year deal with Netflix, the Scandal creator shared her view on juggling motherhood and her high-profile career.

There is no such thing as balance. That I will say right away, she told Business Insider in 2017. If you are a working mother you are often not there as much as youd like to be. I said this once somewhere, that if Im standing on set watching some amazing thing being shot, then I am missing my daughters science fair. Or if Im at my daughters dance recital, then I miss Sandra Ohs very last day, and very last scene being shot on Greys Anatomy Those are the trade-offs.

Rhimes chooses to accept the losses rather than beating herself up about them. You have to make a decision that youre going to miss one thing and be good at another, she explained. Ive always said if Im winning at one thing, Im failing at another. And a lot of people say, failure? And I say, yes! I like to call it failure because it makes me feel better.

The Private Practice creator has always made diversity a priority when casting, wanting art to imitate real life. I wanted to see people on television who look like me, and I wanted to see people on television who look like my friends, Rhimes told Business Insider. I didnt relate to a lot of the women on television because they didnt seem realistic. It was just about writing people I wanted to watch, and writing people who felt like the people I knew.

With Hollywood being so focused on physical appearance, Rhimes role behind the camera spares her from having to deal with that type of scrutiny.

I never once thought about how I look in this industry in that way. Probably because Im not in front of the camera all the time, she said. Im behind one, and Im writing words for other people to say and I try to be very encouraging of my actresses and my actors to be themselves.

Rhimes first Netflix show Bridgerton is scheduled to be released this year.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Creator Shonda Rhimes Shares Which Character She is Like and How Patrick Dempsey Got That Famous Nickname – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

ABCs Greys Anatomy just wrapped Season 16 with its usual cliffhanger of a finale. Though the show has seen some actors come and go over the years, Ellen Pompeos Meredith Grey remains the series central focus while many characters will live in infamy (think McDreamy and Dr. Cristina Yang) despite no longer being at Grey Sloan Memorial.

When originally plotting out the medical drama, show creator Shonda Rhimes took some parts of her own personality and put them into her main characters. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey after the shows launch, she revealed which roles she identified with most and how Patrick Dempsey got that famous moniker.

Greys Anatomy burst on the airwaves in 2005 and immediately brought in a massive audience. Now the longest running medical drama in history, Rhimes told Winfrey in 2006 that she had a blank page when it came to assembling the cast.

The script was written with no character descriptions, no clue as to what anyone should look likeexcept for [resident doctor] Miranda Bailey, Rhimes said in 2006, revealing that she went in a completely different direction when she cast actress Chandra Wilson in the role.

I pictured [Bailey] as a tiny blonde with curls. I thought it would be unexpected to have this sweet-looking person open her mouth and say tough things, Rhimes explained. But then Chandra Wilson auditioned, and she opened her mouth and said those same things. I thought, Thats exactly who Miranda is.'

When Winfrey asked if the character of Bailey is based on Rhimes mother, she admitted there were some aspects that were similar between the two. A little bit. Shes very no-nonsense, Rhimes replied. Dr. Bailey says stuff like These people are nastyall they think about is sex while were trying to save lives here. My mother is definitely that kind of realist.

When developing the types of characters she envisioned on the show, Rhimes focused on presenting females as strong and ambitious.

I wanted to create a world in which you felt as if you were watching very real women. Most of the women I saw on TV didnt seem like people I actually knew, Rhimes shared. They felt like ideas of what women are. They never got to be nasty or competitive or hungry or angry. They were often just the loving wife or the nice friend. But who gets to be the bitch? Who gets to be the three-dimensional woman?

Rhimes started building her characters for Greys with the shows main female leads. I began with Meredith. Cristina was second, simply because shes the kind of woman I know really well, and I like her, the show creator explained. Theres something interesting about a person who is that driven, a little bit emotionally disconnected but still a caring, sweet, and smart individual you could be friends with.

When the talk show icon asked Rhimes if she is most like Meredith, the Greys creator revealed that she considers herself a combination of the two female leads.

Im like both Meredith and Cristina. Theres a side to Meredith that keeps everything together at work, she told Winfrey. I do that. And like Cristina, I sometimes open my mouth and say things I just shouldnt say. I do that less now. Im learning.

When describing her vision for the character of Dr. Derek Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey, Rhimes admitted that she created a man whos almost too good to be true at first.

In some ways, hes a man who doesnt exist, the Greys creator said. In the first eight episodes, he seems like a perfect guy whos into Meredithand the audience falls in love with him. But then it is revealed that he has a huge flaw: He has a wife. Isnt that the way it often happens in life? You get hooked before you discover the truth?

As for that infamous moniker of McDreamy which has stayed with Dempsey to this day, Rhimes revealed that the name just came naturally.

When we were shooting the pilot, Patrick was seriously the most adorable man wed ever seen on camera, Rhimes confessed. Wed watch the monitor and think, Look at his dreamy eyes! So we started calling him Patrick McDreamy, and it stuck.

Fans are already counting the days until the premiere of Season 17!

Greys Anatomy showrunner tweets about escaping action due to her race, sparks debate – The Indian Express

By: Trends Desk | New Delhi | Published: June 18, 2020 11:18:23 am Vernoff has been lauded for illustrating how her teenage crimes were written off as mistakes because she was white. (Source: Twitter, AP)

Even as anti-racism demonstrations continue in the US, the showrunner of the show Greys Anatomy, Krista Vernoff, took to Twitter to highlight how she had committed various crimes, but was never punished due to white privilege. The thread has sparked a serious conversation on race and Vernoff has been praised for being straightforward.

Opening up about all the crimes she has committed over her life in a candid conversation, Vernoff listed various things she did and how she was mostly let off with a warning. She also pointed out that other incidents had shown how it could have panned out differently for those who werent white. Vernoff wrote about how her crimes were written off as mistakes just because she was white, and that she still didnt have a criminal record.

When I was 15, I was chased through a mall by police who were yelling Stop thief! I had thousands of dollars of stolen merchandise on me. I was caught, booked, sentenced to 6 months of probation, required to see a parole officer weekly. I was never even handcuffed, she said in the start of her thread.

When I was 18, I was pulled over for drunk driving. When the Police Officer asked me to blow into the breathalyzer, I pretended to have asthma and insisted I couldnt blow hard enough to get a reading, she continued. The officer laughed then asked my friends to blow and when one of them came up sober enough to drive, he let me move to the passenger seat of my car and go home with just a verbal warning.

The 46-year-old screenwriter who has never shied away from talking about things online, or highlighting such incidents in her show over the years, talked of her crimes to highlight how white people are treated differently by the police.

Her tweets come after the death of Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old black man who was shot and killed an Atlanta Police Department officer on June 12, amid the ongoing protests over George Floyds killing.

Defunding the police is not about living in a lawless society, she wrote. Its about the fact that in this country, were not supposed to get shot by police for getting drunk.

Footage from body and dash-mounted cameras showed Brooks chatted cooperatively with the two white officers, agreeing he had a couple of drinks to celebrate his daughters birthday and agreeing to a breath test.

Vernoff ended her thread saying: The system that lets me live and murders Rayshard Brooks is a broken system that must change. Stop defending it. Demand the change. #BlackLivesMatter #WhitePrivilege #DefundPolice.

Commenting about the thread, Director Ava Duvernay, a founder of an advocacy for justice reform, lauded her for talking honestly about her experiences as a white woman in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Its one of the best threads on the criminalisation of Black people that Ive read lately, Duvernay said.

The thread went viral and many highlighted how important it is for white people to talk about their privilege and be aware of the discrimination. Others also shared how they received different treatment from the police due to their race:

Violent protests had erupted in many cities across the US after a video emerged of a Minneapolis policeman suffocating Floyd by pinning him to the ground with his knee on Floyds neck. The policeman, David Chauvin, has since been fired, arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

If you like Greys Anatomy, here are 7 other shows on Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar and SonyLIV – GQ India

Greys Anatomy fans are part of an elite group who have binge-watched the 300+ episodes of this gripping drama series. But, after a point, you might want something a little more refreshing. Were thinking of some shows that comprise the same drama, crime, thrill, mysterious cases, perfectly placed cliffhangers and more. These shows on Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar and SonyLIV, for more than one reason, fall in a similar category as Greys Anatomy and we think you should check them out.

The best part about giving Station 19 a shot is the number of crossovers it has had with Greys Anatomy. Every now and then the Station 19 cast makes an appearance on the show, which means you will already share a familiarity with the on-screen characters. The spin-off features a Greys sweetheart, Miranda Bailey, and focuses mainly on her husbands life as he moves from medical to firefighting.

A most-favoured recommendation for Greys Anatomy fans, The Good Doctor is a medical drama about an autistic boy (Shaun) who undertakes a job as a trainee surgeon. His special mental abilities allow him to picture the human anatomy in a way that not a lot of people can. Shaun isnt loved by his work peers, but he finds a way to attain their friendship along the course of the show.

If you like Greys Anatomy for its drama, Suits is gonna be an instant hit with you. The show is a legal drama about a law firm where Mike Ross, a college dropout, starts working with Harvey Specter, a big shot lawyer. A constant throughout the nine seasons is the relationship between Mike and Harvey and their ability to solve cases. Pick up this series for its intriguing plot twists and turns that often end up with Specter using his brilliance to solve the mystery.

House is probably the first recommendation anyone would offer to a Greys fan. This features Hugh Laurie in the lead as Dr. Gregory House, an ingenious and unsociable physician. Dr. House builds controversial hypotheses about his patients, which usually leads to clashes with fellow doctors. His incapability to follow hospital rules brings in an added twist.

Chicago Med is based on the backdrop of a fictional public hospital Gaffney Chicago Medical Center and shows a similar doctor-patient drama series like Greys Anatomy. The only difference is that this one is based in a different location, Chicago. The show, while maintaining the prime focus on events in the hospital, also features various parallel storylines of the personal and interpersonal lives of the lead.

Another mystery drama for Greys Anatomy fans is How to Get Away with Murder. The show features a law class, where the teacher guides her students on the principle of how to get away with murder a technique to start thinking like the killer. Throughout its six seasons, the show serves up some intriguing mystery stories as cases.

The Residenthas doctors and the healthcare system as its central theme. The drama series takes you through the ugly truths behind the privatized medicine and health care system in America. The lead group on the show uncovers the dark side of modern-day medicine with the help of a senior resident at the hospital. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’: The One Medical Error The Show Makes Is a Massive Mistake – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

In the world of TV medical dramas, Greys Anatomy is possibly the most iconic. The show, which is one of the longest-running medical dramas in television history, has been around since 2005 and continues to earn scores of fans, year after year.

With long-running series regulars like Ellen Pompeo helming the show, it seems likely that Greys Anatomy will remain a mainstay for years to come. In spite of its immense popularity, the show has made some pretty major mistakes including one that anyone with a basic knowledge of medical procedures would be able to spot.

Greys Anatomy debuted on television in March 2005, and immediately, television history was changed forever. The show centers around the doctors and staff of the fictional Grey and Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle.

Greys Anatomy not only featured many intense scenes of surgeries and medical processes but is focused on the personal lives of the doctors and residents, as well.

The cast has changed many times over the course of the years. While some cast members have gone on to achieve even greater fame after Greys Anatomy, such as Patrick Dempsey, others have suffered from bad press, and to this day, their work on Greys Anatomy remains the peak of their career.

Ellen Pompeo, who plays Dr. Meredith Grey, has been on the show since the very beginning, and today, is one of the highest-paid TV actresses.

RELATED: Greys Anatomy: Is Grey Sloan Memorial a Real Hospital? Yes and No

Greys Anatomy has received a lot of critical praise over the years, with reporters praising the show for the writing and the character development. In terms of realism, however, Greys Anatomy does leave something to be desired.

While many viewers might find the medically-focused scenes to be very true-to-life, doctors and medical professionals have stated that the show isnt actually very realistic. They claim Greys Anatomy often misrepresents what it is like to be a physician at a hospital.

In addition, although showrunners often refer to a real-life medical team when coming up with the plot points and cases that the shows doctors deal with, sources state that one hospital simply wouldnt deal with the high volume of unusual cases that they do in the show.

Still, fans love the high level of drama in Greys Anatomy, and even if it isnt the most realistic medical drama around, it is undoubtedly one of the most popular.

Out of all the years that Greys Anatomy has been on the air, one particular storyline has become notorious for being medically inaccurate. During one episode, a patient named Sylvia is admitted to the hospital, requiring urgent medical attention due to a fork being stuck in her neck.

While the story of how she got the fork in her neck might be hilarious enough, the fact remained that Meredith Grey had to get the fork out of her neck with no damage to the rest of Sylvias neck and throat area. Dr. Grey orders an MRI, which was likely an immediate red flag to any medical professional watching the episode.

Since an MRI machine is basically a large magnet, in real life, the fork would have been pulled out of Sylvias neck, causing significant damage and putting her in danger. The episode has become famous among Greys fans, not only for the singularity of the incident that caused the fork in the neck but for the unlikely MRI ordered by Meredith Grey.

Grey’s Anatomy’: Will Jerrika Hinton Ever Return as Stephanie Edwards? – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Lets be honest, Greys Anatomy fans dont take kindly to new characters. Every time someone is introduced, theres always a bit of backlash. However, when Stephanie Edwards (Jerrika Hinton) first appeared in Greys Anatomy Season 9, viewers knew she would become one of their favorites.

Nevertheless, Stephanie hung up her stethoscope toward the end of season 13, collectively breaking everyones hearts. But is there hope for Hinton to return as Stephanie on Greys Anatomy? Heres what we know.

RELATED: Greys Anatomy: Will April and Matthew Ever Return? The Door Is Still Open

Hinton left Greys Anatomy to pursue other projects. In March 2016, the actor was cast as the leading role for Shonda Rhimes new comedy, Toast. Unfortunately, the pilot wasnt picked up by ABC. But in January 2017, TVLine reported Hinton would exit Greys Anatomy for Alan Balls new HBO show, Here and Now.

When speaking with The Hollywood Reporter after her exit, Hinton shared creator Shonda Rhimes was supportive of her decision.

When Toast didnt go, I went away and had a spiritual summer in a lot of ways, Hinton said in May 2017. Shonda and I had a meeting at the beginning of season 13 where we talked about my departure and my creative process, and she was very supportive of my wishes. I am eternally grateful to her for understanding.

Meanwhile, Rhimes said in a statement:

Actors evolve differently and when an actor like Jerrika comes to me and says she wants to try something new creatively, I like to honor that. Jerrika has shared so much of herself with Stephanie and I am incredibly proud of the journey weve taken together. While Im sad to see Stephanie leave Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, I am excited to see whats next for Jerrika.

HBO canceled Here and Now after one season. However, Hinton currently stars as Millie Morris on Amazon Primes Hunters.

The Greys Anatomy Season 13 finale titled Ring of Fire served as Hintons last episode as Stephanie. In the previous episode, Stephanie set a rapist on fire. But in a turn of events, he reached a supply of oxygen tanks, causing an explosion at Grey Sloan Memorial.

When the finale originally aired on ABC, fans panicked, wondering whether Shondaland claimed yet another victim. But luckily, Stephanie made it out alive. However, she was covered in major burns. Then in a conversation with Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), Stephanie realized she wanted to stop living her life in hospitals and really live.

I spent my whole life in hospitals my whole life, she said. And I think I need to see everything thats not the inside of a hospital. I need to travel and explore and hike and breathe, I want to breathe it all in. Away from the monitors and the blood and the sterile gowns. Away from saving other peoples lives. I want my own. Its time I live my own.

After the Greys Anatomy Season 13 finale was released in May 2017, multiple publications asked Hinton whether she would ever consider returning as Stephanie, particularly because the character wasnt killed off. In an interview with Variety, Hinton shared she wasnt sure how to answer. But she pointed out Stephanie wouldnt want to come back for some time.

Because of the nature of her injuries and because of what she says she wants to experience in her next chapter of life, if we do see her come back through those doors, it will be a long time, Hinton said. I think that she needs to heal. She needs to heal in a variety of ways before that place becomes a viable option again.

Then when speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Hinton confirmed she was open to reprising her role sometime in the future.

Yes, the actor said when asked whether she would want to return to the Shondaland series. That place has a really wonderful soft spot in my heart.

Now, its been three years since Hinton left Greys Anatomy and it appears the actor wouldnt say no to Stephanies return depending on the storyline.

It depends on the format, you know? It depends on what the story is, Hinton told CinemaBlend in January 2020. You never say never to things like that.

She continued, That was such a fundamental experience in my career, and so never say never. Although I am enjoying the world outside, certainly, in the current moment.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Were Jackson and April Meant to Be Together? Justin Bruening Doesn’t Think So – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Nobody does romance quite like Greys Anatomy, and the love story between Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and April Kepner (Sarah Drew) is the only proof you need. The couple formed a relationship after developing a strong friendship. They also faced numerous hardships, including the heartwrenching loss of Samuel Norbert Avery. So when Jackson and April did not end up together upon the trauma surgeons exit in Greys Anatomy Season 14, some fans were left in an outrage.

Now, its been a hot minute since April decided to leave Grey Sloan Memorial with Matthew Taylor (Justin Bruening). So with time, the fandom has calmed down in regards to Japril. But Bruening recently revealed viewers are still caught up with the relationship. And while the actor admitted April and Jackson had an epic romance, he believes April received her happily ever after with Matthew.

RELATED: Greys Anatomy: Are Jesse Williams and Sarah Drew Friends in Real Life?

Greys Anatomy fans were introduced to April and Jackson when Mercy West merged with Seattle Grace. The pair formed a close friendship until they slept together before taking their medical boards exam.

As time went by, April and Jackson had a few ups and downs. There was clearly a spark. But after a pregnancy scare, it seemed the two would go their separate ways. Then eventually, April met Matthew and the couple got engaged.

At April and Matthews wedding, Jackson confessed his love for his ex. Then in a turn of events, April left her fianc at the altar to run away with Jackson. They eloped.

Later, April and Jackson revealed they were expecting a child. They named the baby Samuel. However, he was born at 24 weeks and only lived a few short hours. This caused the couple to spiral and April even left Seattle. In the end, the lovers decided to divorce.

Nevertheless, this wasnt the end of Japril. When signing the divorce papers, Greys Anatomy fans learned April was pregnant. Naturally, when Jackson found out, there was some drama. But when that subsided, the couple decided to co-parent their daughter, Harriet Kepner-Avery.

As mentioned, Greys Anatomy Season 14 was Aprils final season. But she did not end up with Jackson. Instead, the ABC medical drama brought back Aprils first fianc, Matthew. The two reconnected, started dating, and got married. April also left Grey Sloan Memorial. But she continues to reside in Seattle and co-parents Harriet with Jackson just offscreen.

When speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Bruening opened up about his experience playing Matthew on Greys Anatomy. The actor has since moved on to other projects, such as Sweet Magnolias, but fans still bring up his time on Greys. Nevertheless, Bruening revealed viewers often tell him they preferred seeing April and Jackson together.

Its funny, the show has such a wide-reaching fan base, Bruening said. I got stopped at a grocery store recently. They cant place where they recognize me from. Ill say, Well, its probably Greys, and then theyll get wide-eyed and ask, Who are you? Ill say Matthew. And theyre like, Oh yeah, we love you but to be honest, we want Jackson and April together.

He continued, I take it as a compliment. I did my job. My purpose the first time was to get Jackson and April back together, and my purpose the second time was to give April the happy ending she truly deserved.

Bruening then admitted Jackson and April had a great love story on Greys Anatomy. He also acknowledged Aprils relationship with Matthew didnt hold up to the Japril romance.

I know where I stand, all right, Bruening said. I guess there was some Mapril people. Theres a lot of sympathy for my character because he is so nice. In their minds, Matthew did all the right things. But an attraction is an attraction. You cant fight that. Im more than happy to take the back burner to Japril. Thats the love story.

But just because April and Jackson had an epic romance, doesnt necessarily mean they should have ended up together.

Its Romeo and Juliet, Bruening said. Two people that shouldnt be together want to be together, and thats completely fine, even though Im married to her now. So technically, I won.

Written By Ishika Aggarwal

Yoga, an ancient Indian practice that is now practiced globally, is not just good for the mind and body but is lucrative for the economy as well. According to a report Pilates and Yoga Studios Market by Activity, the yoga industry was valued at $87,926 million in 2017 and is projected to reach $15,811 million by 2025, growing at a CAGR of 11.7 per cent from 2018 to 2025.

While several careers have been affected due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, yoga professionals claimed to have seen a boost amid these troubled times too. Career options in the industry include that of a teacher, instructor, yoga trainer and therapist. This International Yoga Day, indianexpress.com reached out to several yoga practitioners to find out what it takes to chose this unusual career option.

Rahul Bhadotiya, yoga teacher in Bal Bharti Public School, Noida said, Yoga is an alignment of body and mind, it heals without any side-effects. His advice to newcomers is to gain proper knowledge and experience before teaching. It as an art where skills and practice go hand-in-hand. During this pandemic, many careers came to a halt but people in the yoga industry are giving live sessions online, teaching yoga through a screen, helping others to overcome stress, anxiety and gain a new perspective.

However, he also had a word of caution for newcomers, Like in any other career you have to face struggles and problems at the very beginning. However, to gain name and fame, you need to keep at it. If you are determined and passionate, you will become successful, advised Bhadotiya.

As per Udemy an online learning platform lockdown has brought a surge of 175 per cent in registration. YouTuber Nidhi Mohan Kamal, director of NidSun Wellness a chain of weight loss clinics believes even if yoga has seen a boost on digital platforms, it goes much beyond that. Yoga is a spiritual practice with a physical aspect to it. Yoga is not about something fancy you see on Instagram, it is much more than that, she said.

To pursue a career in this field, one has to follow a certain discipline, remarked Mohan. If, as a yoga practitioner, one takes steps to improve themselves first, then people will gradually reach out to you for help. One has to shift focus from making money, but it will come as a by-product along the way.

Fitness trainer and TEDx speaker, Radhika Bose commented, For me, it is a lifestyle and passion that I share with the world. According to her, people often do not understand the concept of social media and fitness. To excel in this field one needs to keep themselves well-informed about the anatomy and physiology of yoga, she recommended.

Anatomy of a Classic Goal: James Rodriguez and the perfect volley – theScore

As we await the full return of world football, we're taking this opportunity to look back on some of the most memorable goals ever scored. Going frame by frame, we'll dissect how, exactly, these epic moments came to fruition.

Other classic goals: Ronaldo | Van Persie | Bergkamp | Aguero | Messi

It feels like an eternity ago now, but in the summer of 2014, burgeoning superstar James Rodriguez was the hottest commodity in world football. Young and handsome, supremely talented, and spearheading a fun, charming Colombia team, the then-22-year-old attacking midfielder was the belle of the ball at the World Cup in Brazil.

He captured the Golden Boot as the tournament's top scorer - despite playing fewer than 400 minutes as his country bowed out to the host nation in the quarterfinals - ultimately finding the net six times in just five games.

Of his sextet of goals, none left a mark on the competition quite like his gorgeous volley against Uruguay in the last-16. It was so spectacular that it's easy to forget Rodriguez also scored the other goal in Colombia's 2-0 win at the iconic Maracana in Rio de Janeiro. Nobody remembers that second one, though. His opener, a perfect volley from 25 yards out that was eventually named the best goal of the tournament, was that damn special.

Here's the breathtaking tally in all its glory:

Let's examine how Rodriguez was able to deliver a goal that was eventually bestowed with the 2014 Puskas Award.

As you can see in the opening seconds of the video above, the sequence begins with Juan Cuadrado and Abel Aguilar briefly playing hot potato with the ball while Rodriguez scurries back and forth, desperately trying to make himself available to receive the ball from either of his two compatriots.

The passing lane appears to open and close multiple times before Aguilar finally makes the decision to try and clip the ball into his teammate. When he does, Uruguay's Cristian Rodriguez - naturally a winger but deployed in this match as part of manager Oscar Tabarez's three-man midfield - has just about recovered to get alongside his Colombian namesake.

Uruguay were nominally lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Rodriguez in his more natural wide position, but when they lost the ball, the system morphed into a 5-3-2, and the winger tucked inside to offer additional support in the central area. That's great, except when he's tasked with keeping tabs on the tournament's most in-form player.

Rodriguez - the Uruguayan one - looks over his shoulder a couple times but is ultimately too focused on the ball and loses track of his Colombian counterpart, who drifts behind him into a pocket of space that's developed between the Uruguayan midfielders and defenders.

Note how the three midfielders - Alvaro Gonzalez (1), Arevalo Rios (2), and Rodriguez (3) - are practically in a straight line; that makes it exceedingly simple for Aguilar to eliminate all three of them from the play with one pass, and for our eventual goalscorer to evade their clutches with some relatively pedestrian movement.

When Aguilar does indeed decide to go for the pass, Rodriguez has planted himself in a dangerous position where, were he to receive the ball right away, he'd have plenty of time to either take a touch and shoot or look to tee up one of the two Colombian strikers.

In fairness to the Uruguayan midfield contingent - we have to at least give them some credit - they do force Aguilar to go for a difficult aerial ball, cutting off the passing lanes on the ground.

It's also important to note that Cristian Rodriguez, who's listed as standing roughly 5-foot-8, comes within inches of getting his head onto Aguilar's pass. If he even gets the slightest deflection and sends the ball careening into another direction, we're almost certainly not sitting here looking back on one of the most aesthetically pleasing goals in World Cup history.

He isn't able to change the trajectory of the pass - it just evades his head. Aguilar's ball floats beyond his intended target, though - it sails past James Rodriguez - and is cleared away by the diving figure of left-back Alvaro Pereira. The Uruguayan defender, a stalwart of Tabarez's World Cup sides, nips in front of Colombian striker Jackson Martinez to clear the danger.

Momentarily, at least.

That Pereira ends up on the ground in order to make the clearance becomes vital in about two seconds ...

Pereira's header drops directly onto the cranium of Aguilar - the ball seemed to follow him around throughout this entire sequence - and instead of trying to bring it down and control it, he quickly prods it forward, looking again to find Rodriguez, who is still in that pocket of space outlined earlier.

For a variety of reasons, none of the Uruguayan contingent on the scene - outside of Diego Godin, who we'll get to shortly - is well-placed to react when Aguilar pokes the ball to his teammate.

That really leaves just Godin, the captain and ever-present defensive rock that Uruguay was long built around, to respond when Rodriguez finally does take the ball down on his chest.

It's quite literally a split-second decision, but Godin hesitates ever so briefly while charging out to confront the Colombian No. 10. It's so subtle that it's difficult to pick it up in the clip, but he rushes out, comes to a split-second stop, and then takes another step forward before Rodriguez turns his hips and uncorks a sublime volley.

Would Godin have gotten close enough to block the shot had he rushed out, full steam ahead, and not paused momentarily?

Conventional wisdom says he did everything right. Defenders have long been instructed to close down an attacker's time and space quickly; you want to get close enough to potentially put in a tackle or react to a move, but not too close to the point where the attacker can remove you from the equation with a quick juke or feint. Essentially, you can't go charging in at full speed unless you want to get left in a heap.

But with Rodriguez having to take the ball on his chest and briefly wait for it to drop to his foot before making his next move, he was in an awkward enough spot that Godin might've been able to put those standard defensive principles aside and get just that little bit tighter.

Thankfully for neutral viewers everywhere, he didn't.

Now, back to that pocket of space. It's truly incredible that, with five opposing players essentially creating a bubble around him, Rodriguez was given time to cushion Aguilar's header, swivel, and unleash his ferocious shot.

The overhead angle provides the perfect illustration:

From there, Fernando Muslera in the Uruguayan goal never had a chance. That the ball crashed off the underside of the crossbar before springing back up off the turf and into the roof of the net only makes it that much sweeter.

In every possible way, it's the picturesque volley.

"Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, James Rodriguez - they do things because they have certain gifts that make them special," Tabarez said after the match. "I believe he's the best player at the World Cup."

Sadly, Rodriguez's career has yet to reach similar heights. His spectacular World Cup showing earned him a mega-money move to Real Madrid just over a week after the tournament ended, but injuries, positional struggles, and a lack of playing time - which resulted in a two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich from 2017-19 - have scuppered his spell in the Spanish capital.

While it seems increasingly unlikely the 28-year-old will ever develop into the unstoppable force many tipped him to be, that shouldn't take anything away from the truly magical moment he delivered that day in Rio.
