Legacy systems hold mission critical workloads and information, but in many cases, organizations do not have a single person who is trained to run these processes on their legacy systems when aging tech talent retires. This is creating a daunting skills gap. According to Brandon Edenfield, for a business to be successful, its vital they implement a strategy that leverages and protects past IT investments while maintaining the valuable skills and expertise related to areas like COBOL as employees retire from their current roles.Modern Systems' Edenfield explains more to Digital Journal.Digital Journal: What does DevOps bring to a business?Brandon Edenfield: DevOps is a discipline that integrates development and operations teams and duties to develop software. It allows companies to create enhance and deliver products at a faster pace than with traditional software development approaches. Ultimately, successful DevOps adoption leads to shorter development cycles, increased efficiencies andfaster innovation. It is also often a desired target state for mainframe modernization efforts, since most mainframe development is implemented through siloed, waterfall methods. The combination of a modernized legacy system with the agility and efficiency of DevOps brings added, exceptional value to legacy modernization projects.DJ: How can a successful DevOps team be assembled?Edenfield: In most cases, legacy system development cycles are measured in months, but in a DevOps environment, they can be measured in weeks or even days. Developing mentorships and cross-training programs are key for successful DevOps implementation across newly modernized legacy systems. The key though is to find ways to cross-pollinate old school and new-skill knowledge. Most resources who hold the legacy positions typically also have historical business SME knowledge from the many years theyve maintained the application. It can therefore create a powerful mix to have these employees apply that insight to new technologies alongside resources who also understand the newer tech. In the same vein, staff members who are familiar with DevOps, the company's CI/CD pipeline and standards for release cycles can bring the "legacy" resources up-to-speed on DevOps concepts, broadening the available resource pool for developing against the modern environment. DJ: How can a firm implement cross-functional training and enable legacy staff members to implement business knowledge in new technologies and staff?Edenfield:The key is to focus on area of expertise, repeatability andscalability. First, establish a central repository for information sharing. Many companies use products like Confluence or SharePoint to make knowledge accessible on the fly. Next, recruit subject matter experts from within the disciplines that pertain to the legacy system's lifecycle, as well as experts familiar with the new DevOps lifecycle. Interview these individuals and establish a punch-list of training items that each should cover within the broader context of the DevOps adoption initiative. Use situationally appropriate media such as video for screen shares and white-boarding or Wiki-style entries for documentation. Finally, establish a track for staffers to follow based on their role and the goals they're looking to accomplish while maintaining open communication across functional groups throughout the process. As resources iterate through tracks, continue to polish and formalize the process to maximize scalability and effectiveness.DJ: What is the value of formalized mentoring and job-sharing programs?Edenfield:Mentoring and job-sharing programs will enable the cross-pollination of old school knowledge and new skills in a scalable, repeatable way. By formalizing this process, your organization can ensure broad adherence to best practices and the overarching strategy and processes involved in the DevOps culture you wish to instill. It also eases the burden of onboarding and scaling resources as demand increases. And mentoring and job-sharing programs broaden the skillsets of everyone on the team, reducing the risk of contingencies and unforeseen demand.DJ: How else can firms best preserve specialized corporate knowledge?Edenfield:Legacy systems are a snapshot of the evolutionary posture of business processes and systems. They are honed over decades to meet the demands of the business and vary widely between organizations. In most cases, modernization efforts seek to retain as much of that evolved process as possible. Regardless, the process of modernization does introduce change, and we recommend source code archiving, business rules definition (through code slicing and extraction), and data archiving tools and practices to retain a record of the legacy system once it's retired. These tools preserve the legacy estate in its original form while extending navigation and documentation capabilities that can be utilized by a variety of business resources. Many firms take the extra step of housing the extracted business processes and any thought leadership or relevant folklore that may provide context to the concepts driving their existence and format in a Wiki-style repository, such as Confluence.DJ: What are the key criteria to look for when choosing a vendor to aid maintaining and monitoring application health, performance and overall business value?Edenfield:Requirements and underlying criteria vary broadly across companies, even divisions and teams. First, it's important to determine the expected division of labor between internal resources and outsource monitoring or management expectations. Next, executive and subject matter expert buy-in is key. Reviewing the proposed division of labor with key resources will vet inherent constraints that must be verbalized to a managed services provider prior to executing an agreement. Finally, and most importantly, it is important to document the components and variables that should be monitored and determine thresholds for each. For example, one company may want to be alerted if a batch job exceeds a certain clock time. Another may want to have visibility into network utilization. Both can be provided by managed services providers through monitoring, but each carries its own unique criteria and constraints, and the best services provider may be different for each.Overall, a post-modernization application management service can help ensure your modernization effort is properly set up for long-term success. The service should include 247 monitoring and support of both the application and infrastructure, with a focus on verifying availability and performance of the business logic and processes. This service could include the following:Monitoring application health and connections to related applicationsContinuously collect health and performance metrics from application components and organize them in real-timePresenting an animated display of the applications current state and enable customer IT teams to focus on extending business value of modernized applicationsBeing available via on-premise, virtual or cloud-based infrastructure, increasing service levelsDelivery of a predictable OPEX support modelDJ: How can firms take advantage of, and benefit from, vendor/partner trainings and certifications?Edenfield:Vendor certifications and trainings can benefit organizations in a number of ways, but the primary impacts are maximizing the capabilities of the company's resources while optimizing the use of vendor tools and services, and communicating to prospects and customers that your firm's expertise in vendor-specific disciplines can be quantified. Choose a subject matter expert to engage with certifications and trainings for a given vendor who can then elucidate values and propose certification tracks and paths that are most relevant to the function of the team and resources within. When investing in organization-wide certifications, be sure to choose vendors whose ethos and goals align closely to yours and your customers' in order to maximize the impact of the spend both monetarily and in time and effort.

The Anatomy of a Lockdown – Havana Times
By Alfredo Fernandez
HAVANA TIMES In Chinese, especially in the Mandarin dialect, the words crisis and opportunity are written with the same two Chinese characters. This ancestral wisdom tells us that something good is also inevitably born from every misfortune.
In Cuba, I remember old people saying that Every cloud has a silver lining. Wise people know that hardship goes hand-in-hand with sufficient means, and misfortune is the neighbor of good fortune, in some way or another. It has always been this way.
This lockdown might be the beginning of a new path for the human being, and I want to take a moment to note that I see human being and not humanity. Indeed, the challenge we have today as individuals is to change ourselves before changing anything else.
Fate (if thats what it was) has worked magic and has imposed quarantine on us at the most unexpected time. People are in isolation to heal society, from a pandemic in this case. We have been forced into solitude, but this solitude also means introspection. Knowing how to make the most of it is a challenge, which we as individuals have before us.
I am almost sure that those of us who have managed to make this lockdown creative; in terms of quality of thought, work plans, as well as taking up personal goals that we had put on the backburner; will come out of this situation with a much more solid emotional base to face the future.
This situation will undoubtedly bring countless good things, especially for the individual and their self-fulfillment. Never before, in modern times, have people had such a long period of time for themselves, to be able to reflect, think about the meaning of life, friendship, Nature, of what is truly important.
Cuban TV host and motivational speaker, Ismael Cala, has introduced the term Creative quarantine, in which he recommends the following to keep us on track: only watching the news twice a day, as an overload of information can make us lose our center. Cala also proposes we travel within and seek moments of solitude and silence, as well as to keep an appreciation diary: writing four or five things in the morning for what we are most thankful for in our lives, at the moment we leave our dreams and take on our physical body again.
Cala tells us that these small pieces of advice will help us start our day, with a calm head, which is the key to keeping our personal decisions under our control and not in the hands of our base emotions.
The lockdown transformed into Creative quarantine, by a personal decision, can be the vehicle that guides us to a better relationship with ourselves. There is no doubt about it. It can be the process in which one identifies (better even) how to live their lives, who the energy thieves are, and where to place our real priorities in life, once and for all. The ones that support self-fulfillment.

Grey’s Anatomy star admits Jackson and April’s relationship is "the love story" – digitalspy.com
Grey's Anatomy fans have often been split into Japril (Jackson Avery and April Kepner) and Mapril (Matthew Taylor and April) fans.
After several years of April going back and forth between the two men, Matthew ended up tying the knot with April in season 14 in a spontaneous romantic ceremony.
But actor Justin Bruening, who plays sweet-natured paramedic Matthew in the ABC hospital drama, has conceded that he actually sees Japril as the real love story and he's happy for his own character's relationship with April to "take the back burner".
Related: Grey's Anatomy stars pay tribute to "THAT scene"
"I got stopped at a grocery store recently," he told EW. "They can't place where they recognise me from. I'll say, 'Well, it's probably Grey's,' and then they'll get wide-eyed and ask, 'Who are you?' I'll say Matthew. And they're like, 'Oh yeah, we love you... but to be honest, we want Jackson and April together.'
"I take it as a compliment. I did my job. My purpose the first time was to get Jackson and April back together, and my purpose the second time was to give April the happy ending she truly deserved."

Bruening, who is also starring in new Netflix romantic drama Sweet Magnolias, went on to compare Jackson and April to "Romeo and Juliet", although he was also keen to point out that his character has done "all the right things".
"I guess there were some Mapril people. There's a lot of sympathy for my character because he is so nice," he said. "In their minds, Matthew did all the right things. But an attraction is an attraction. You can't fight that. I'm more than happy to take the back burner to Japril.
"That's the love story. It's Romeo and Juliet. Two people that shouldn't be together want to be together, and that's completely fine, even though I'm married to her now. So technically, I won."
Grey's recently had its 16th season cut short by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, meaning that the final episode of the season that aired wasn't the intended finale.
But despite this, it achieved some impressive ratings, becoming the show's most watched episode since the season 16 premiere.
Grey's Anatomy airs on ABC in the US. It airs on Sky Witness in the UK with selected episodes also available on NOW TV.

Locusts, Covid-19, bad weather: The anatomy of a food crisis – The East African
By PAULINE KAIRUMore by this Author
A spectre of food crisis is haunting East Africa, preceded by an unfortunate axis of locust invasion, Covid-19 pandemic and adverse weather.
And now both the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) are forecasting a grim future.
In its Global Report on Food Crises, WFP is particularly worried about Covid-19 spreading to vulnerable communities such as those with high levels of acute malnutrition, refugee settlements and IDP camps, arid and semi-arid lands and informal settlements.
The UN agency warned that theres no time to waste as more than 27 million people were in emergency levels of acute food insecurity prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
With the restrictions that have come with containing the spread of Covid-19, WFP warns hundreds of millions of people could be just one shock away from severe acute food insecurity as at least 135 million people experienced crisis and worse levels of acute food insecurity while a further 183 million people were on the edge in stressed food security conditions.
The UN agency said it is concerned about the growing risk of famine in some countries, especially those in East Africa.
In April 2020, the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (Fews Net) Global Food Security Alert named Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia and South Sudan among countries, including Nigeria and Yemen, that could face famine, as a consequence of the pandemic.
In East Africa, the situation is compounded by desert locust invasions, floods and insecurity. What is more, the Covid-19 pandemic coincides with the start of the long rains and main planting season and peak of the land preparation activities for labour-intensive staple food crops and vegetables.
Significant food security gains have been realised in most countries following above-average rains across the region towards the end of 2019. However, macro-economic shocks, protracted conflict, the ongoing desert locust infestation and the Covid-19 pandemic threaten to erode these gains, said the WFP report.
According to the Food Security and Nutrition Working Group March 2020 update, 16.95 million people in the four most food insecure countries in East Africa are in need of humanitarian assistance due to drought, floods, economic crises, conflict and displacements.
The WFP and FAO are worried that planting, harvesting and market challenges facing vulnerable rural agricultural populations will exacerbate an already fragile situation. These challenges include reduced access to inputs due to limited market access and reduced incomes, lack of seasonal labour, disruptions to transport to markets, lockdowns, physical distancing and lower purchasing power.
The halt of school feeding programmes ... could result in significant deteriorations of nutritional outcomes among child of school-going age, said the WFP.
It is also envisaged that travel restrictions could severely affect crop and livestock exports and imported input pushing up food prices as incomes continue to decline.
Because of the restrictions there are reports of fresh produce going to waste before it reaches the consumer, said the report.
Not even national policy responses introduced in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda to limit the impact of Covid-19 on food markets have helped.
For livestock dependent economies like Somalia, South Sudan and Ethiopia, the outbreak coincided with the onset of the Ramadan when export of live animals and frozen meat to the Middle East countries was expected to increase. Loss of household income will likely have ripple effect on the local economies, and therefore on household food security and nutrition, added the report.
The Global Covid-19 Humanitarian Response Plan (GHRP) has revised the needed money from $2 billion to $6.71 billion to reflect the increasingly urgent need to address non-health impacts of Covid-19. As of May 5, the UN appeal had received $923 million with another $608 million reported outside the GHRP, bringing the total received to about $1.5 billion.
Of these needs, the food security sector represents the largest component, for a total of $1.6 billion.
FAO is seeking $350 million to ensure the provision of critical assistance where there are already high levels of need, while meeting new needs emerging from the effects of Covid-19.

X-Men Anatomy: The 5 Weirdest Things About Deadpool’s Body | CBR – CBR – Comic Book Resources
While Wade Wilson might be many things, Deadpool is not really one to keep a secret. With his motor-mouth, Deadpool has joked endlessly about a wide range of topics, including his own body and the numerous traumas he's put it through,
On his adventures as a mercenary and during his more heroic stints with X-Force, Deadpool has suffered and healed from virtually every injury in the book. And as the decades have gone on, his body has just kept getting weirder and weirder. Now, we're taking a closer look at Deadpool's body, which has evolved into one of the most unique bodies in the Marvel Universe.
RELATED:Deadpool: Every Time Marvel (Almost) Killed Wade Wilson
Though he's often associated with the band of mutant superheroes the X-Men, it's important to keep in mind when dealing with Deadpool that is not technically a mutant himself. I The origin to Deadpool's powers date back to the hazy days of his service with the Canadian special services. Though he did not have any superpowers, his unusually sharp skills as an expert assassin made him a favorite among the upper brass despite his obedience issues. When he was diagnosed with a deadly form of cancer, he proved eligible for a highly experimental procedure.
With Department K drawing from the research conducted by the Weapon X Program, the government managed to extract and replicate Wolverine's healing factor and place it into Deadpool. The result was that he developed his miraculous healing abilities that would kick off his career as a costumed adventurer. This means that Deadpool is a mutate and not technically a mutant, but he's sometimes identified as one because of the DNA he shares with Wolverine.
The healing factor that Deadpool inherited is oftentimes portrayed as being even better than Logan's own considerable abilities. While both Wolverine and Deadpool's healing factors can be inconsistent over the years -- with both going from recovering from atomic explosions without much trouble to being taken down by machine gun fire at other times -- there's really no doubting that the ceiling of Deadpool's healing factor is much higher than Wolverine's mutant power.
Without any special upgrades, Deadpool has had his entire body reduced to ash and still recovered. Perhaps even more notable is that his recovery seemed to begin immediately, with his consciousness forming thoughts even before the ash itself coalesced back into a body. The cartoonish extents to which Deadpool's body has suffered violence and still came back may be tied in with his complicated relationship with the embodiment of Death, but there's no doubting it makes for some strange showings.

The history between Deadpool and Cable goes all the way back to Wade's creation in New Mutants #98, by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza. Even after the two stopped trying to kill each other, Cable's self-serious and dramatic nature makes him the proverbial straight man to Deadpool's wacky antics. While this exceptionally odd couple might not seem like they have much in common, the pair found themselves fused together during a teleportation accident near the beginning of 2004's Cable and Deadpool.
With their atoms connected on a quantum level, there was a repeated problem the two experienced with their separate teleportation devices where whenever one activated the device the two would teleport to the same location. No matter how far apart they were, they would always be yanked back together whenever they teleported, and sometimes they'd be put back together quite literally. Cable's own hardy constitution helped him survive their particularly close encounters, but for Deadpool, it meant practically ripping himself in half and growing huge chunks of himself back.
Although the pair were eventually untangled, Deadpool also found himself fused with another one of Marvel's zaniest characters, Madcap, a few years later.
That strange body of Deadpool's has an even stranger mind, and that has helped him out on more than one occasion. It turns out that the constant deluge of pop culture references. inane dialogue and self-aware addresses to readers aren't just an affectation, but they're the result of his totally unique mind, which is in a somewhat constant state of flux to the point that his brain is completely indecipherable to telepaths.
Occasionally, this condition has been attributed to Deadpool's healing factor, which keeps his brain's neurons regrowing and firing off and burning out such a frenetic pace that it's impossible to form a coherent consciousness from the mess. The unique nature of his mind may also have something to do with his brief exposure to the foundation of reality in Cullen Bunn, Matteo Lolli and Matteo Buffagni's Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars #4, the event that made him self-aware in the first palce.
RELATED: How Was Deadpool Every Worthy of Thor's Hammer?
Deadpool has a habit of turning his flaws into strengths, and the unique nature of his mind isn't the only example. The same cancer that necessitated his involvement int the Weapon X Program was never actually cured by the development of Wade's healing factor. Instead, the cancer itself was fueled by the same healing factor even as it killed him. His healthy cells were unable to die from the cancer-killing him, and the cancer was unable to die from the healing factor. The result is that his body condensed into a grotesque walking tumor.
While this unique set of circumstances caused Deadpool's looks and makes his body give off a repugnant odor, there are some upsides to his current condition. One of them is that Deadpool's blood is poisonous to vampires like Dracula, who are utterly repulsed by it. It also means that any attempts to copy Deadpool's powers go awry, as the alien Skrulls learned when they tried to make an army with Deadpool's healing factor without factoring in the role his cancer plays. The result was a shambling mess of an army utterly useless to the alien empire, which gave Deadpool the last laugh yet again.

‘Extraction’ | Anatomy of a Scene – The New York Times
Hi. My name is Sam Hargrave, director of Extraction. So at this point, were in the middle of what we would term a oner. Its a long continuous shot that we came up with, a way to do that kind of a unique chase scene. And were escaping with Chris Hemsworth, who plays Tyler Rake, and Rudhraksh Jaiswal who plays that Ovi. Alright, kid, you trust me? No. Good. This jump and at that moment, we had a stitch. So we could infuse our actors into the action and then use the doubles for the dangerous part. And for that jump, I was actually on a wire leaping behind our stunt doubles. And coming down those stairs, thats me running backwards with a camera, trying to keep our actors in frame, keep up with their speed, not fall on my butt. We work our way through this whole series of hallways. And when we enter this room, we actually, on that door kick, we moved to another location. So thats a different day of shooting, different time. Stay on my shoulder, all right? And this fight here, weve got Randeep Hooda and Chris Hemsworth going at it. They spent weeks rehearsing together. Because the beauty of this is it looks sloppy. It looks like theyre struggling for their lives. And it looks messy. But that comes from hours of rehearsal so they could put the acting into this. So again, here, we build in a hidden cut where we can put the doubles in. And as you see, the camera goes down with them. Again, thats me on a wire, jumping over a balcony, and gliding down with them. And for that, we kind of set that all up. We built the balcony. It didnt exist. We parked the truck in the right place. And the stunt team rehearsed and rehearsed and rehearsed to get the timing of that right and the distancing. And it was really challenging to kind of keep both actors in frame for that fall just because the nature of the jump. I mean, Im on a wire, trying to jump with a camera, keep them in frame. And then when we land in the streets, what we thought would be really fun was to have the actors interacting with the environment, the vehicles passing by. This is just a day in the life of for these people. But these guys are locked in a life and death struggle with knives. And yet, life goes on. You know, this is busy street. People are watching like theyve gone to the cinema. And you know, again, this hours of rehearsal with these two actors so that we could have the intensity that we needed. And then a little shock value here. [GRUNTING] [CAR SCREECHES] The thing that was interesting about this moment is, and what we tried to do to make kind of a unique perspective, was do what people arent expecting, which you take out your hero. Just take him out of the fight. And then focus on the bad guy. And we just thought it was fun, a different way to kind of follow action was to leave your hero out of it. So youre thinking, wait, what happened to Rake? Is he going to come back? And you know, leave people wanting more.

Justice League Anatomy: The 5 Weirdest Things About The Flash’s Body – CBR – Comic Book Resources
Just because they break so many laws of physics doesn't mean the Flash writers don't care about science. Quite the contrary, the "Flash Facts" section of the classic Silver Age Flash comics always went out of their way to try to explain just how the Scarlet Speedster's powers worked and just what happens to a body under the super-speed conditions he so often finds himself in.
The result is a whole lot of pseudo-science and it actually makes a lot more sense than one might think. The human body just wasn't built to go at the near-light speeds, but theFlash is no ordinary human. On top of the Fastest Man Alive, he could be the Strangest Man Alive. Here are the five weirdest things about the superhero's anatomy.
RELATED:Wally West's Brief Tenure As An Internal Revenue Service Agent
There's a whole lot more to the Flash than just being able to run fast. The same way super-strength might come with making super jumps or super throws, moving extremely fast comes with a whole host of other powers that don't immediately come to mind. The Flash can create whirlwinds by spinning his arms, run across the surface of water and even phase through solid objects.
By vibrating the molecules of his body extremely fast, the Flash is able to "slide" his molecules through thoseof other solid objects. It's an extremely difficult move for a speedster to master and often comes later in the Flash's career, whenever a new hero takes up the mantle. Flash's vibrational abilities show just how thorough he is -- it's not just his legs that are fast, it's his everymolecule.
RELATED:DCAU Flash Vs DCEU Flash: Who Is Better?
If Flash's super speed goes down to the level of his molecules, it must affect every aspect of his body -- even his brain. Flash's neurons fire at incalculable speeds, allowing him to enter a mental state in which time appears frozen and he can work through complex problems in mere moments. Just imagine having a million thoughts a moment piled on top of sensory data from the environment. This ability served Barry Allen extremely well as a forensic scientist, allowing him to analyze the minutiae of a crime scene with a glance and then process all the data with his verifiable super computer of a brain.
Flash most often needs to activate the ability, but there is a subconscious level on which his instincts can kick in to protect him. Since he is unconsciously processing all that information at every moment, even the slightest shift in air pressure can tune him in to a potential threat. Call it a "Speedster Sense" or a "Barry Tingle," but it's proved to be one of the hero's most valuable abilities. Since he's too fast for most villains to touch, they will often try surprising him before he knows he's in a fight -- but that's a lot easier said than done.
RELATED:X-Men Anatomy: The 5 Weirdest Things About Juggernaut's Body, Explained
Onecan only go so far into the science of discussing the Flash before it's an absolute necessity to discuss the Speed Force. Conceived as a way to explain many of the more physics-breaking aspects to the Flash's powers, the Speed Force is an extradimensional power source which both fuels and protects all the speedsters of the DC Universe. The Speed Force it the answer to almost any question that asks how something a speedster can do is even possible. One of the most potent examples is friction.
Any object moving as fast as the Flash would necessarily generate a lot of heat as the molecules of the moving object bounce against the surrounding air or the ground beneath. That heat should incinerate the clothing and even the skin of someone moving so fast, but the Speed Force generates a protective envelope around the Flash and anyone he is touching that keeps them safe from harm. The same holds true for the air that presumably blasts into the Flash's eyes, which explains why he's one of the few speedsters who doesn't need goggles.
It's clear at this point that every aspect of the Flash moves far faster than a normal human and that holds true even for his metabolism. The most common example of his super metabolism is his appetite, as the Flash constantly scarfs down feasts of food in fractions of a second to feed his ferocious appetite. The super metabolism isn't entirely an inconvenience -- he was once poisoned by Poison Ivy and managed to run the toxins out of his system before they ever hit his heart. His grocery bill might be sky high, but it's better than a hospital bill.
RELATED:Justice League Anatomy: The 5 Weirdest Things About Deathstrokes Body
Ordinarily the Flash does not visit the hospital much in the first place, as his body actually heals far faster than a normal human as well. Generally his white blood cells and regeneration go to work immediately following any injury, allowing him to recover from near-fatal wounds in almost no time at all. Bart Allen even had his kneecap blown off and was in well enough shapeto run himself out of the emergency room shortly after.
There can be a downside to this, however, as the healing process can happen so fast that bones will grow back improperly. He's even had to break a bone all over again just to reset it, which is a major inconvenience in the midst of battle. Still, it's certainly better than the alternative and the Flash certainly isn't going to give up a handy healing factor just because it causes some unpleasantness every so often.

Grey’s Anatomy: 10 People Richard Should Have Ended Up With (Other Than Catherine) – Screen Rant
Although Richard seemed to be physically recovering in the finale of Grey's Anatomy, his marriage to Catherine remains as broken as ever. Ever since he was fired from Grey-Sloan, their relationship hasn't been the same since. The couple even announced they were separating after Catherine maliciously bought and closed down the hospital he worked at to spite him.
RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: Why Miranda & Richard Aren't True Friends
Fans feel that Webber deserves better, especially since the urologist is continuously trying to undermine and control his career at every turn. But who would be a more suitable match for the Chief? From Carol Shepherd to Gemma Larson, here are 10 people Richard should have ended up with instead of Catherine.
If Addison was just a little bit older or Richard a little bit younger, these two would have been a cute couple. As many fans know, Webber always had a soft spot for Addison. He was the first person to let her know where Derek was and updated her about Meredith.
Addison and Webber also forged a friendship in the aftermath of his split with Adele, where the OB/GYN helped to get his life on track. If the writers didn't go down the mentor-mentee route, they could have found comfort in each other.
Another person Richard could have been matched with was Owen's mother, Evelyn. Although Evelyn has only appeared in 9 episodes, fans have learned a lot about her life. They know that she served in the Vietnam War and had been a scrub nurse at some point in her life.
RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: Why Richard & Arizona Aren't Real Friends
She also revealed that their family had lived five miles from Grey-Sloan, meaning she could have run into Richard at some point. Since Richard has been looking for something to fill the void Adele left, maybe he could have met Evelyn in the writing class instead of John.
How funny would it be if Richard and Carolyn got together in the early stages of the show? Do the writers not realize what comedy gold they could have had if Derek found out Webber was dating his mother? Now that the idea is planted, here are a couple of reasons why these two should have been matched.
For one, they both understand what it's like to lose someone they truly loved. Two, Carolyn was also a navy nurse for 25 years so she would have understood the pressures of the job. Three, they deserve their own happiness after spending years putting other people's needs ahead of their own.
Although Marie and Webber never shared any screen time, it was clear from his discussions with Meredith that he knew her. In fact, they came across each other more than once since she was Ellis Grey's best friend. While Ellis' journals suggest Marie thought Richard was a distraction from work, what if Marie's vendetta was for a different reason.
RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 10 Of Richard Webber's Best Quotes
Instead of an affair with Ellis, what if Richard and Cerone had fallen in love but their relationship ended when she left for Spain? Then, when she returned in season 14, the writers could have allowed them to reconnect. It could have made another epic romance.
Another woman the writers could have had as a romantic interest was Diane Pierce. As many fans know, Diane was Maggie's adoptive mother, who came to Seattle after she discovered she was terminally ill. While she was admitted to the hospital, Diane bonded instantly with Maggie's colleagues, including Richard.
Although they only shared a couple of scenes, fans could see there was a natural chemistry. She was a kind and charming person, bringing a smile to everyone's face. If she arrived years earlier and revealed he had a daughter, they could have raised her together.
With Catherine and Richard separation looking permanent, could his next love interest be Gemma? It's not as if a romance between them would be totally out of the blue since he and the accountant have already kissed. Fans have also noticed a spark between the two, especially since Gemma helped make his transition to Pac North easier.
RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 10 Of The Worst Things Richard Webber Has Ever Done
It is important to note that Gemma and Richard have more things in common than he does with Catherine. She understands his demons because she is a recovering alcoholic. They had the same sponsor, meaning they share the same grief. Most importantly, Gemma doesn't disrespect his career or belittle him. There could be a future here...
Again, if Miranda was just a little bit older or Webber was younger, they would have made quite the couple. With the staff already calling them "work husband and wife," it's obvious that people feel like their partnership mimics a marriage. Even Adele at one point thought they were having an affair because she recognized they had chemistry.
Adele believed the two would go to the ends of the world for each other - and she was right. Despite all the squabbles and bickering, Richard and Bailey will always be there in the darkest of times. She is his "person."
Fans may not have contemplated it, but what if Richard had fallen in love with his sponsor, Olive? Out of all the people in Richard's life, Olive was his one constant figure. She was the one who supported him through his alcoholism the first time around.
RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: Most Heartbreaking Deaths, Ranked
She was also the one Richard called whenever he was going through a rough patch - talking at least three times a week. This romance could have been beneficial to Webber's character, especially since he always looked comfortable around her.
Although she is similar to Catherine, another person Richard could have ended up with was Ellis. Richard and Ellis were another iconic love, with the couple's romance starting when they were both in their residency. From her journals, Ellis stated it had been a passionate affair and that they were planning on starting a life together.
If Webber had known that she had been pregnant with Maggie, he would have followed her to Boston and helped raise Meredith. Even "If/Then" showed them to be happily married...
If there was one person Richard should have ended up with, it was Adele. Every fan knows that she was the love of his life. She was always seen as a kind and considerate woman. However, she was also seen to have a fiery attitude, which always came out when she thought someone was trying to double-cross her.
Although his affair and their brief separation deeply affected their marriage, Richard and Adele still managed to find their way back to one another. It's just a shame she got Alzheimer's and died because Webber hasn't been happy since.

Okay, Theres a Greys Anatomy Theory Going Around Saying Jackson Might Die – Cosmopolitan
Gilles MingassonGetty Images
Its been a few weeks since Greys Anatomy season 16 ended, but fans are desperately trying to figure out what would have happened if the season got the last few episodes it was supposed to. One wild theory going around involves Jackson Avery, and fans on Reddit think that if the season had gone on as planned, he actually would have died.
Greys ended its season on episode 21. It was supposed to have 25 episodes total. Obviously, the writers have been weaving the Greys and Station 19 storylines together lately, so the new Station 19 episodes hold some clues for what would have happened in those last four episodes of Greys. The synopsis for an upcoming Station 19 episode says, Ben, Jackson and Emmett are put in a precarious and dangerous position with a potential victim.
Doesnt seem like anything that would cause alarm, right? But someone on Reddit wrote this: According to press release for episode 15 for Station 19, Jackson along with Ben and the newbie are put in a dangerous position. I think thats a given that Jackson would have been the one to die.
Okay, Im not sure that its a given, and I dont totally get the leap between Jackson being in a dangerous position and him straight-up dying (unless the internet knows something I dont), but other people on the Reddit thread agreed. That theory makes a lot of sense, one commenter wrote. Also, his character pretty much peaked and died when Sarah Drew left the show.
And even if youre not totally sold on the Station 19 connection, people were saying Jackson was toast before that episode info dropped. On a different Reddit thread totally unrelated to that, fans wrote they think Jackson will be the next to go. So, um, I guess if you see Jackson die early in the next season of Greys, you heard it here first.

Greys Anatomy season 17 release date: Will there be another series of Greys Anatomy? – Express
Will there be another series of Greys Anatomy?
Hit medical drama Greys Anatomy brought its 16th season to a close on Thursday, April 9 on ABC.
The finale tied up some loose ends as viewers found out more about Richard Webbers (played by James Pickens Jr) fate.
However, the episode will also leave many viewers wondering whether the show will be returning again with season 17.
Fans of the long-running medical drama should rejoice as the next outing has already been confirmed.
READ MORE:Grey's Anatomy spin-off: Will there be another spin-off show?
The series was actually renewed before season 16 even began airing on ABC last year.
In May 2019, it was confirmed Meredith Grey star Ellen Pompeo renewed her contract and how seasons 16 and 17 were both renewed at once.
After the renewal, Pompeo told People: Obviously I never anticipated the show still being the number one show on the network. How do you walk away from a hit?
The fans will dictate when the show ends. As much as we think were in control, were not.
Its the fans show at this point. They control how long the show goes. Well see. I kind of just take it year by year and see.
The new season of Greys Anatomy is expected to air in its usual new season slot in September.
This is when the returning show usually starts their new seasons and has been when every outing apart from series one of Greys Anatomy has aired.
However, it seems possible season 17 may be delayed due to the impact of coronavirus COVID-19 on the television production industry.
The series has already been impacted by this with production shutting down back in March, leaving this season at 21 episodes rather than 25.
Showrunner Krista Vernoff addressed this on Twitter back on March 28, hinting how the story would continue in season 17.
She wrote: We are disappointed that we dont get to complete our storytelling this season.
The good news? 1621 plays like a satisfying finale! Its not where we planned to end, but its beautiful & the questions that linger we will answer next year.
This could mean the series delays its premiere into 2021 if work is halted on the new series beginning.
Express.co.ukwill update this article as soon as any more information is released.
Greys Anatomy airs on Thursdays on ABC.

Grey’s Anatomy boss responds to whether Justin Chambers or Katherine Heigl could return – digitalspy.com
Grey's Anatomy season 16 spoilers follow.
Grey's Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff has addressed whether or not Justin Chambers or Katherine Heigl could return to the series.
Chambers made his exit from the show during season 16, and in a twist, his character Alex Karev was later revealed to have reunited with Izzie Stevens, who was played by Heigl between 2005 and 2010.

Alex and Izzie are now living happily together and raising twins on a farm in Kansas.
In an interview with Deadline, Vernoff was asked about the possibility of Chambers or Heigl reprising their roles in the future, especially since neither of them were killed off. The showrunner replied by saying that a shock return for either character wouldn't be impossible.
"When I left the show in season 7, people asked me if there was any chance of me ever coming back, and I was smart enough to say, 'Never say never'," she said. "Here I am, so who knows?"
During the same interview, Vernoff admitted that she wasn't surprised by the divisive reaction to how Alex was written out.
"I believe that there would've been at least as big an outcry if we had killed that character off-camera, and those were our choices," she said, before adding that she "felt satisfaction" and was "really happy" with Alex's fate.
The 16th season ended four episodes early, resulting in several planned storylines including for Teddy Altman and Andrew DeLuca being cut.
There have also been reports that a major character death was supposed to happen in the original season finale.

Human Body – Anatomy and Physiology of Human Body
About Human Body
If we were to break apart the human body at the microscopic level, then the cell would constitute the most basic unit of life.
The average adult has somewhere between 30 40 trillion cells, and an estimated 242 billion new cells are produced every day. When a select group of cells with similar functions come together, it forms a tissue.
Tissues cumulate into organs, organ systems and eventually, an individual organism.
Cells -> Tissues -> Organs -> Organ System -> Organism
Human Anatomy
The human body exhibits a variety of movements from walking, bending and crawling to running, jumping and climbing. The framework that enables us to do all these activities is the skeleton. Humans have as much as 300 bones at birth. However, the bones start to fuse with age. At adulthood, the total number of bones is reduced to 206.
Human Anatomy is the scientific study of form and shapes of human beings
The skeleton also protects several vital organs such as the heart, lungs and the liver. Bones are attached to other bones through ligaments, a fibrous connective tissue.
Joints are points at which two bones meet. They enable a range of movements like rotation, abduction, adduction, protraction, retraction and more. Based on flexibility and mobility, joints can be further classified into movable joints and immovable joints. Movable joints are flexible while immovable joints (also called fixed joints) are non-flexible since the bones are fused.
Muscles are specialised tissues which assist the bones in locomotion. Muscles are attached to the bones through tendons. Movement of limbs happens due to the contraction and relaxation of corresponding muscles present in that region. Joints help in the flexibility of bones, but a bone cannot be bent or stretched until a muscle acts on it. In other words, the muscles attached to that bone pulls it to the direction of movement.
Furthermore, most movement involves muscles that work as a pair. For example, when we bend our arm, muscles in that region contract, become shorter and stiffer and pull the bones to the direction of movement. For relaxation (stretching), muscles in the opposite direction have to pull the bones towards it.

There are different cavities in the human body that house various organ systems.
Humans have evolved separately from other animals, but since we share a distant common ancestor, we mostly have a body plan that is similar to other organisms, with just the muscles and bones in different proportions.
For example, we might assume giraffes have more vertebrae in its neck than humans. No, despite being incredibly tall, giraffeshave the same number of vertebrae, i.e. they also have seven vertebrae intheir neck.
One of the most prominent characteristic features is the ability to use our hands, especially for tasks that require dexterity, such as writing, opening a bottle of water, opening a doorknob, etc.
This is the result of humans having ancestors that began walking on their hind limbs rather than using all four limbs. Most of our anatomical insight was gained through the dissection of corpses (cadavers), and for a long time, it was the only way we could gain anatomical knowledge about the human body. It was a rather grotesque affair, but it made up the bulk of medical literature for centuries. These days, technological innovation has made it possible to explore human anatomy at a microscopic level.
Even to this day, scientists are newly discovering organs that were previously overlooked or have been mistakenly identified as other existing tissues. In 2018, scientists had discovered a new, body-wide organ called the Interstitium that exists right under the skin.
Human Physiology
It is referred to the physical, mechanical, and biochemical function of humans. This connects health, medicine, and science in a way that studies how the human body acquaints itself to physical activity, stress, and diseases.
The person who is trained to study human physiology is called a physiologist. Herman Boerhaave is referred to as the father of Physiology for his exemplary research and teaching during 1708.
Read More: Physiology
The list of human body parts vary as the standard definition of an organ is still up for debate. However, there are an estimated 79 organs identified to date. We also possess organs that have lost their function throughout our evolution. Such organs are called vestigial organs.
Some of these organs work together and form systems that are specialised to perform a specific function or a set of functions. Collectively, these are known as organ systems.
And out of these 79 organs, five are crucial for survival, and any damage to these five organs might result in termination of life. These five crucial human body parts are the brain, heart, liver, lungs and kidneys. Read on to explore more about these body parts and their functions in detail:
Circulatory System
The circulatory system is also referred to as the cardiovascular system. It comprises the heart and all the blood vessels: arteries, capillaries, and veins. There are essentially two components of circulation, namely:
Diagram showing pulmonary (blue) and systemic circulation (red)
Besides these two, there is a third type of circulation called Coronary circulation. Because blood is the bodys connective tissue, it helps to transport essential nutrients and minerals to the cells and waste byproducts away from it.
Hence, it is also known as the bodys transport system. Anatomically, the human heart is similar to other vertebrate hearts in the animal kingdom and hence, is a homologous organ.

Digestive System
A diagram of the human digestive system detailing various components
The digestive system breaks down food and assimilates nutrients into the body, which the body then uses for growth and cell repair.
The major components of the digestive system are:
The process of digestion starts with mastication (chewing food). Then, the saliva mixes with food and forms a bolus, a small rounded mass that can be easily swallowed. Once swallowed, the food travels down the oesophagus and into the stomach. The stomach secretes strong acids and powerful enzymes that break the food down into a paste.
It then moves into the small intestine where the food is broken down even more because of the bile secreted by the liver and powerful, digestive enzymes from the pancreas. This is the stage at which nutrients are absorbed from the food.
The leftover materials (stool) then move on to the large intestine where it transforms from liquid to solid, as water is removed. Finally, it gets pushed into the rectum, ready to be eliminated from the body.

Reproductive System
The human reproductive system is also known as the genital system that comprises internal and external organs that help in reproduction. It varies for both males and females. Hormones, fluids, and pheromones are all connective accessories for the reproductive organs to function.
The female reproductive system consists of the following:
Also known as the womb, the uterus is a pear-shaped organ where the fetus grows. The cervix is the route to the vagina and gateway for sperm to enter. Vagina acts as the route for a penis to enter during intercourse and the exit of the fetus during delivery.
The male reproductive system consists of testicles, which act as a storehouse for sperms. These oval-shaped organs are encased in a pouch that is called scrotum.
Next to the testis is the vas deferens that are the accessory ducts for the male sexual system. When sperm is formed, it is mixed with fluids that are produced by seminal glands, prostate gland, and Cowpers gland. The primary purpose of Cowper gland is to hike the semen volume and lubrication during coitus.

Respiratory System
The respiratory process involves the intake of oxygen, and the exhale of carbon dioxide from the body. This system is also known as the ventilatory system, gas exchange system or respiratory apparatus. Vertebrates like human beings possess lungs for respiration. The process of respiration starts with the cycle of inhalation and exhalation.
Inhalation results in the oxygen entering into the body and exhalation results in carbon dioxide exiting from the body. Anatomically, the respiratory system comprises the following organs:
A diagram of the human respiratory system highlighting the gas exchange process
By diffusion, molecules of carbon dioxide and oxygen are exchanged passively among the blood cells and external environment. This swap is done through alveoli (which are the air sacs) in the lungs.
More About: Respiratory System
Nervous System
The voluntary and involuntary actions are maintained and taken care of by the central nervous system. It helps to channel the signals to and from different parts of our body. Nervous System is broadly classified into two categories :
Distribution of Nerves in humans (top) and the Neuron (bottom)
The central nervous system contains the brain and the spinal cord, while the peripheral nervous system includes nerves and ganglia that are present outside the brain and spinal cord. Through the axons, every part of the body gets connected.

Key Points About the Human Body
Every human being, tissues, human body parts and the organ systems are made up of cells- the fundamental unit of life. Anatomy is the science of understanding the structure and the parts of living organisms. Physiology, on the other hand, deals with the internal mechanisms and the processes that work towards sustaining life.
These can include biochemical and physical interactions between various factors and components in our body. With the progress of evolution, organisms began to exhibit advanced characteristics and features that enabled them to be more efficient and thrive in their respective environment.
The human structure can be described as bipedal, with hair covering the body, presence of mammary glands and a set of extremely well-developed sense organs. With respect to human body anatomy, we have a specialized circulatory system that enables the efficient transport of materials and nutrients within the body.
The presence of a well-developed digestive system helps to extract essential nutrients and minerals required by the body. A well developed respiratory system ensures the efficient gas exchange and the nervous system enables coordination and interaction within the body and also the external environment, thereby ensuring survival.
Anatomy is the study of the structure of an object. Human anatomy deals with the way the parts of humans interact to form a functional unit.
Human Physiology deals with the mechanical, biochemical and physical functions of humans. It serves as the foundation of modern medicine. It is the study of the functioning of human organs.
Claude Bernard is the father of human Physiology. He is also referred to as the father of modern experimental Physiology.
Human physiology lays the foundation upon which our knowledge of life is built. It helps us to know how to treat diseases and how to manage stress laid upon us by different environments.
Andreas Vesalius is known as the father of human anatomy. He was Belgian born in the family of physicians. His most famous work, Fabrica of Andreas Vesalius won great recognition.
There are two different types of anatomy- gross anatomy and microscopic anatomy. Gross anatomy deals with things that can be seen with the naked eyes, whereas microscopic anatomy deals with the things that can only be viewed under a microscope.
Human anatomy helps us to understand the structure and relationship of all parts of the body. It also helps us to know the characteristics of different body parts.
Anatomy helps us to know about the structure of the different body parts while physiology studies the functions and relationships of body parts.
The important organs of the body include- brain, lungs, heart, kidney, liver, stomach, intestines, bladder.
The different systems of our body include- cardiovascular system, endocrine system, digestive system, respiratory system, excretory system, lymphatic system, nervous system, muscular system, and skeletal system.

‘The King of Staten Island’ | Anatomy of a Scene – The New York Times
Hi, Im Judd Apatow. And Im the director and co-writer of The King of Staten Island. This is a scene from early in The King of Staten Island. Thats Maude Apatow, who is playing Petes sister Claire. And in this scene, she is about to leave for college the next day. And shes giving her brother a set of paints to encourage him to pursue his tattooing dream more aggressively. I know youre into art, so I thought you could expand your horizons while Im gone. You got a gift receipt for this? But its also a guilt gift, because shes leaving and on some level, abandoning him. So under the guise of being nice, she is bee-lining for the door. Be nice to mom, O.K.? Dont give her a hard time. She deserves a break. I always give her a break. When am I going to get my break? Like What are you talking about? All anyone ever does is worry about you. In this conversation, Petes character is really on to her. They know each other so well, and he knows this as a guilt gift. He knows shes trying to get away from him. And hes also guilty and insecure that hes made her childhood difficult, because hes taken up so much air in the room from all of his problems. What are you going to do? Are you going to get a job? Or are you going to leave the house? I dont know. Im going to open that tattoo restaurant. No, like, for real. I am being real. Its never been done before. I looked it up. I googled it. Its never been done, not even as a joke. Because no one wants to go to a restaurant and watch people get tattooed while they eat. Its gross. Its the best idea ever. Ruby Tat-Tuesdays, where everyones welcome chicken and tattoos. What I like about this scene is its very real. Its very tense. And yet, both the actor and the actress find a way to be really funny in showing how their relationship melts down. In the scene, they talk about how Scott thinks it was worse for him, because he got to know their dad. And its easier for her, because she was too young to have gotten to know him when he died. Thats something that Pete Davidson talked about that, thats something that he debates with his sister. Who had it worse? And in a way, the scene is almost an apology to his real-life sister for not acknowledging how bad her pain was at times. We shot this scene over an entire day. We had rehearsed it a lot and done a lot of improvisations. One of the reasons why I wanted Maude to do it is shes very alive and very present, and so is Pete. And I knew you would feel it in her eyes every moment that she loves him, but also, shes so guilty about leaving the house.

The anatomy lesson of Dr Nicholaes Tulp and other lessons – Mumbai Mirror
By Christopher de Souza
There has been a major revival of Rembrandts paintings at the Hague this year. Among the many paintings opened for viewing was the one picture that I was most familiar with: The Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicholaes Tulp. It was introduced to many doctors in Mumbai more than 30 years ago. And they were introduced to anatomy and Rembrandt.
Anatomy is taught to students in their first year in medical college. It is mistakenly thought that anatomy is a dead subject since it is taught on cadavers and skeletons, on lifeless, glass slides viewed through a monocular microscope and on brightly coloured, luridly painted, inanimate charts. Once the euphoria of getting into the MBBS course has worn off the study of anatomy in all its aspects is viewed as a necessary evil in order to get to the clinical sciences where the real living action is.
.
These skills brought him into the department of Anatomy of the BYL Charitable Nair Hospital and later he became the Dean of the Nair Hospital. There he infused his students with his knowledge and wit.
He would begin with a question, How do you know the sex of a chromosome? No one knew the answer to that.
By pulling down its genes, he would say with a twinkle in his eye pointing to the Levi and Wrangler jeans that the students wore which were the rage at that time.Needless to say there were plenty of guffaws and right to this day many of his students remember that statement.
When teaching the study of bones, he would hold the bone in his left hand and enquire, To which side of the body does it belong?
The left side sir, would be the reply. Right, he would say with an impish smile. He made it a point to find out what a student knew rather than dwell on what they didnt. This was atypical of examiners of that time where examiners looked for lacunae in your knowledge and used that to hammer home your weaknesses and fail you.
Dr Eustace would pepper his teachings freely with references to art, literature and music and so exposed us all to the importance of the study of anatomy as a frame of reference.
Spend a night with Venus and a lifetime with Mercury, was one of his favourite aphorisms regarding the once primitive treatment of syphilis. Most of the students who had no understanding of Roman mythology were carefully explained the connotations and play on words. Venus the god of love transmitted syphilis which was treated long agoby administering mercury a dreadful and painful medicine (the god given the healing caduceus by Apollo). The lifetime of the patient was brief because the cure was worse than the disease.
Dr Eustace de Souza informed us that artists like Leonardo Da Vince spent lifetimes dissecting human bodies in secret to get a better understanding of the human body. Their studies were responsible for now making the study of human anatomy an art and a science.
Da Vincis illustrations of the fetus in the womb and the Vitruvian man were shown to us to better understand how privileged we were to get an actual human body to dissect and appreciate its intricacies. This sense of privilege has stayed with me and nearly all my colleagues, all our lives enhancing our appreciation of the sanctity of life and its residence; the human body.
He had in his office on the third floor, a picture titled The anatomy lesson of Dr Nicholaes Tulp by Rembrandt. The students were asked to find out what was wrong with the picture. None of us could identify the flaw in this marvellous painting. He then showed us that the muscles in the corpses left hand were shown to be arising from the outer side (lateral epicondyle) of the hand when actually they should have arisen from the inner side (medial epicondyle). We were also treated to a short informative discourse on Rembrandt and his other paintings. But, this image remained vividly with us. Whenever I visited his office it was on prominent display.
I moved to the USA to do a fellowship and many years later I had the good fortune to be appointed a professor at the State University of New York in Brooklyn. Following a series of lectures, a dinner was hosted for me at an exclusive black tie event near the Hudson river. Incredibly, there were pictures of Rembrandt on the wall. There was the Nightwatch, Bathsheba at her bath and I saw the one picture with which I was most familiar, The anatomy lesson of Dr Nicholaes Tulp. Dr Lucente my host, saw me get excited and was amazed that I was able to correctly identify this painting and I also pointed out to him the flaw in this picture. He was amazed because he was unaware of this facet of the painting. I spent the evening talking to him about Dr Eustace J de Souza. By then a crowd had gathered around us. When I finished recounting my experiences he raised his glass of wine and said, It appears that you received more than just a lesson in anatomy by this great man Dr Eustace de Souza. I think you received more than mere lessons. You received, what is now extremely rare and what I would call,an extraordinarily good education.

Grey’s Anatomy: The 10 Weirdest Operations Ever Seen In The Show – Screen Rant
It's safe to say thatGrey's Anatomy doesn't always reflect the daily life of a surgeon. It's more than likely that most doctors haven't come across someone who has the bizarre afflictions that so many patients do, but that's what is interesting about the show.
RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: Why Bailey And Richard Aren't Real Friends
They raise awareness to diseases we may not know of. However, there have also been moments that have left fans bewildered on how certain patients got themselves in the predicament and whether they could be saved. Want some examples? Keep reading to discover the 10 weirdest operations ever seen on the show.
Does anyone else remember when Izzie managed to save a deer's life? In "A Change Is Gonna Come," Izzie rushes to the aid of a young boy and his father after they came into the ER asking for help. Desperate to impress her new interns, Izzie has no qualms following them out to where they find a deer.
Instead of turning them away, Izzie spends the whole day treating and operating on the animal. Even without any knowledge of veterinary medicine, Izzie somehow manages to revive the deer.
Fans witnessed one of the weirdest incidents in "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" when a patient was wheeled into the ER after being mauled by a lion. The case got even weirder when the patient's girlfriend announced she had been keeping the animal as a pet.
RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 10 Reasons Why Cristina & Callie Aren't Real Friends
It didn't even cross her mind that her so-called pet tried to eat her, but she also failed to realize that she endangered her boyfriend's life as well. Half the hospital then spent the day trying to repair the damage the animal caused. It was a truly bizarre case.
In "Oh, the Guilt," the surgeons heard a woman was to be admitted with 'a foreign body' stuck inside of her. When she arrived, they were shocked to discover the 'foreign body' was her ex-husband. It turned out her ex had a piercing and it had got caught on her IUD.
When the surgeon's tried to separate them, Adam ended up having a heart attack, and his aorta was dissected. To make matters worse, the former couple's daughter ended up walking in on them in a compromising position. It got so awkward so fast.
In "Wishin' and Hopin'," fans were also concerned for their favorite characters when several of them began collapsing for no reason. After George, Alex, and Richard all fall ill, they soon discovered that one of the patient's blood was a neurotoxin.
RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: Why Alex And Arizona Aren't Real Friends
Since half the staff was down after being exposed to the toxins, several attendings and interns were forced to step up and finish the surgery. What was most surprising was the patient survived even though she was exposed to the high concentration of toxins the longest.
In "Shiny Happy People," Demi Lovato guest-starred as a patient who was suspected of having paranoid schizophrenia. She was about to be committed to psych after she tried to claw her eyes out. However, Alex soon discovered that she had superior canal dehiscence syndrome.
This means a small hole developed in her inner ear, which caused Hayley to hear everything inside her body and amplified other sounds. Once Alex, Arizona, and Derek performed the surgery to repair the ear, Hayley was well again. Fans will agree it is one of the most unique cases on the show.
No one will ever forget Megan Hunt's abdominal wall transplant, which ended up winning Meredith the Catherine Fox award. When Megan returned in the season 14 premiere, her family was shocked to see she had a 'frozen abdomen.' As Meredith and the other surgeons reversed her colonoscopy, Mere soon realized they couldn't close because there wasn't enough skin.
RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: Why Meredith & Cristina Aren't Real Friends
This then led to Meredith proposing an abdominal wall transplant, which she got inspiration from by picking at her wallpaper. It's not exactly how you think surgeons would come up with ideas.
One of the show's weirdest operations also occurred in notorious episodes "It's The End Of The World/As We Know It." When fans tuned in to the episode, did you ever think there would be a patient stuck with a bomb in his chest? Or that Meredith would have to stick her hand on it to stop the patient from bleeding out?
Meredith and Burke were soon focused on transporting the patient to another theater after they discovered they were above the hospital's oxygen line. It was absolutely bizarre that only two people died after the bomb went off.
Although it was a medical marvel, fans will agree that the heart in a box was one of the weirdest operations they ever saw. In "Heart-Shaped Box," Cristina and Teddy were performing an organ transplant, which fans had never seen before.
RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: Why Cristina And Izzie Aren't Real Friends
Instead of transplanting it straight into a body, Teddy connects it to some wires and places it in a box. This then allows the heart to function as it continues to pump blood around. The box also allowed the organ to be easily transported to a new donor. It was a weird operation but in a good way.
In "Come on Down to My Boat, Baby," April and Arizona were in the ER treating a woman after she fainted at a jail. When they began examining her after she complained about abdominal pains, the surgeons were shocked when a gunshot rang out across the room.
They soon realize that the patient, Danielle, had smuggled a gun through her vagina and it had gone off. Now, April and Arizona were forced to operate after it fired through her abdominal wall. This case was then dubbed "Gungina" by Carina and the other surgeons.
The weirdest surgery to ever occur on the show has to be the teen encased in cement. In the season 4 finale, several surgeons were forced to race against the clock after a student jumped into wet cement on a dare. As the rescue team tried to free him from the block, Callie, Mark, Hahn, and Bailey all rushed to come up with a solution to save him.
Just as they thought he was stabilized, Bailey soon realized they made a fatal mistake by not placing a catheter in. Fans were further on tenterhooks when Andrew crashed and threw a clot. Luckily, it had a happy ending but it still has to be the weirdest operation.

The TV Show I Love: Greys Anatomy – The New York Times
Stuck on a desert island or confined to a one-bedroom Brooklyn apartment, I will take the 15-year-old medical drama Greys Anatomy as distraction over any of its newer, shinier, more critically acclaimed, more endlessly dissected and meme-fueling competition.
Ive been onboard since 2007. The shows creator, Shonda Rhimes, or its current showrunner, Krista Vernoff, could replace the lead character, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), with an android: I have no desire to ever stop watching. The longevity of my emotional investment is partly the point. Nothing replaces the feeling unique to television of watching a show age in real time. And this one has remarkably held up.
Besides the occasional tremor when a cast member leaves or acts out or a pandemic prompts a season to end prematurely, as happened last week series like Greys are often taken for granted. Yet the pleasures they dispense are both rare and very real. Heres why Im a fan.
I embarked on my Greys journey around the middle of Season 4. ER, to which I was devoted, was in its penultimate season and running on fumes, and I must have been looking, consciously or not, for another prime-time drama focusing on adults rather than children or families. (The medical genre wasnt a draw in itself: I never got into, say, House, and I didnt even bother with the Greys spinoff Private Practice.)
One night, I stumbled onto Seattle Grace Hospital, and I never left. I cant remember the episode or why I was hooked maybe it was an intriguing case, maybe it was a snarky exchange between Meredith and her person, Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh). No matter: I was back the following week and have remained loyal.
Its not just inertia that has kept me hanging on. I have ditched other favorites, like The Walking Dead, many seasons in. But Greys has never flagged in brilliantly stitching together the personal, the professional and the soap-operatically outrageous. Of course, the show handles the medical side of the stories well, deftly balancing one-in-a-million cases with less colorful but just as dangerous illnesses. (Its amazing how many people have been impaled by implausible objects over the years.)
Yet operating-room action alone would not have kept me interested: I have stayed for the ever-changing permutations of horny doctors and to watch characters either settle into relationships or flamboyantly sabotage them. This is a series in which adults have adult concerns, but the impulse control of hormonal teens.
The show has also never shied from hot-button issues (Meredith has recently become obsessed with the inequity of the American health-insurance system) or from addressing the moral and ethical quandaries of fallible doctors blinded by hubris, pigheadedness or lust.
And all of this has unfurled with a matter-of-factly progressive approach to race (inclusive casting has always been a huge part of the appeal), sexual orientation and physical and mental disabilities a tolerance woven into the shows fabric rather than funneled into Very Special Episodes.
Renewal is built into the shows DNA: Grey Sloan Memorial, as the hospital is now known, is a teaching institution, which means that new interns and consulting doctors arrive at regular intervals. They are put under observation, and the show either absorbs or rejects them, like a body with a transplanted organ. Established stars cant sleep soundly either, and anybody can get walking papers overnight. When the powers-that-be killed off the dreamboat Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) in Season 11, ratings did not sink and the show remains a hit for ABC.
If you become overly attached to a character or a couple on Greys, chances are that at some point you will wind up either sobbing or furiously throwing objects at the wall. And you will keep watching because the show is uncommonly well-written and directed, even when the plot goes off the rails.
Loving means tolerating flaws. Greys often deploys weapons of mass emotional manipulation that drive me crazy in other shows. I cant stand sappy acoustic covers of pop songs, but when they play over patients being informed they are going to live or die, I start crying. Likewise, preternaturally perceptive children are my Kryptonite on all series except Greys. Perhaps this is because said kids are almost always patients, so they come and go fairly quickly. (Many of the doctors have offspring now, but they barely figure in the story lines.)
As a rule, I accept that shows must end. In 2019, the ABC entertainment president Karey Burke said that she would keep the series going as long as Rhimes and Pompeo were game. Pompeos contract runs until Season 17, in 2021; she could well renew and renew and renew, until Grandma Meredith bosses around interns a third her age. I will tag along, even if it requires walkers for everybody involved.
