What is eugenics? pgEd

Eugenics is the philosophy and social movement that argues it is possible to improve the human race and society by encouraging reproduction by people or populations with desirable traits (termed positive eugenics) and discouraging reproduction by people with undesirable qualities (termed negative eugenics). The eugenics movement began in the United States in the early part of the 20th century; the United States was the first country to have a systematic program for performing sterilizations on individuals without their knowledge or against their will. It was supported and encouraged by a wide swath of people, including politicians, scientists, social reformers, prominent business leaders and other influential individuals who shared a goal of reducing the burden on society. The majority of people targeted for sterilization were deemed of inferior intelligence, particularly poor people and eventually people of color.[1]

In the early 20th century, many scientists were skeptical of the scientific underpinnings of eugenics. Eugenicists argued that parents from good stock produced healthier and intellectually superior children. They believed that traits such as poverty, shiftlessness, criminality and poor work ethic were inherited and that people of Nordic ancestry were inherently superior to other peoples, despite an obvious lack of evidence and scientific proof. However, eugenicists were able to persuade the Carnegie Institution and prestigious universities to support their work, thus legitimizing it and creating the perception that their philosophy was, in fact, science.

The eugenics movement became widely seen as a legitimate way to improve society and was supported by such people as Winston Churchill, Margaret Sanger, Theodore Roosevelt and John Harvey Kellogg. Eugenics became an academic discipline at many prominent colleges, including Harvard University, among many others. From the outset, the movement also had critics, including lawyer and civil rights advocate Clarence Darrow as well as scientists who refuted the idea that purity leads to fewer negative gene mutations. Nevertheless, between 1927 and the 1970s, there were more than 60,000 compulsory sterilizations performed in 33 states in the United States; California led the nation with over 20,000. Experts think many more sterilizations were likely performed, but not officially recorded.[2]

Adolf Hitler based some of his early ideas about eugenics on the programs practiced in the United States. He was its most infamous practitioner; the Nazis killed tens of thousands of disabled people and sterilized hundreds of thousands deemed inferior and medically unfit. After World War II and the Holocaust, the American eugenics movement was widely condemned. However, sterilization programs continued in many states until the mid-1970s.

Today, safeguards have been established to ensure that the ethical implications of new technologies are discussed and debated before being employed on a large scale. In this way, the benefits and advances arising from scientific research and medical procedures can be achieved both ethically and humanely. Examples of the efforts of the United States government to ensure that progress in science, research and technology proceeds in an ethical and socially acceptable manner include the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues, well known for the development of the Belmont Report, and the Ethical, Legal and Social Issues (ELSI) program housed in the National Human Genome Research Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Many people fear that new advances in genetics could lead to a new era of eugenics. However, these advances lead to sometimes difficult ethical questions, particularly related to reproductive technologies and embryo screening. As science advances, what traits might people be able to choose or select against? Is it acceptable for prospective parents to have a say in which embryos are implanted in a womens uterus for non-medical reasons? Is it acceptable for society to dictate this decision to prospective parents? Many of the breakthroughs have saved lives and will continue to do so on a grander scale, and we, as a society, need to discuss the complex issues related to genetic technologies. Debate and discussion can be illuminating even though complete consensus about the intersection of genetics and society will be difficult.

This lesson provides students with a historical overview of the American eugenics movement and highlights some of the advances and breakthroughs that have been achieved through genetic and genomic research. Many people fear that new advances in genetics, particularly embryo screening and analysis of fetal DNA, could lead to a new era of eugenics. The goal of this lesson is for students to start discussing these topics so that they can understand the complexity of the issues and engage in conversations that contrast the dangers of eugenics with the benefits that can come from genetic information.

Vermont Eugenics: A Documentary History

This lesson uses primary source documents to explore issues of race, gender and class in the 20th century. It is intended to extend the ideas explored in History, eugenics and genetics. The goal of this lesson is for students to use original sources to understand how the eugenics movement used propaganda to enter mainstream America to promote its agenda, and use critical thinking skills to analyze and interpret the sources.

How to Treat Depression with Psychedelics

Many people find their day to day experience of life is filled with anxiety, limiting the activities they do and the enjoyment they have in life. Psychedelics like mushrooms and LSD have been used for decades to treat anxiety disorders and to reduce anxiety levels.

In some cases, these substances seem to directly alleviate feelings of anxiety, even at very small doses (below the level at which they subjectively alter consciousness). For other people, psychedelics help them explore the root causes of their anxieties and fears and find peace with them. And for many people, psychedelics bring them to a place a spiritual peace and openness that can become a new touchstone for letting go of anxiety or learning not to identify with it so strongly.

This description of the process may sound abstract to someone suffering from anxiety day to day, but like talking therapy, the healing process of psychedelics can be a little difficult to convey until youve tried it.

Recent clinical research has shown dramatic reductions in anxiety even after a single psychedelic experience with psilocybin mushrooms. Even for patients facing the extreme anxiety of terminal illness, psilocybin allows them to embrace their fate and find peace with their loved ones.

Heres one womans story of being treated with mushrooms as she was facing death, described in a New York Times article (see below):

Before Pam Sakuda died, she described her psilocybin experience on video: I felt this lump of emotions welling up . . . almost like an entity, Sakuda said, as she spoke straight into the camera. I started to cry. . . . Everything was concentrated and came welling up and then . . . it started to dissipate, and I started to look at it differently. . . . I began to realize that all of this negative fear and guilt was such a hindrance . . . to making the most of and enjoying the healthy time that Im having. Sakuda went on to explain that, under the influence of the psilocybin, she came to a very visceral understanding that there was a present, a now, and that it was hers to have.

Two weeks after Sakudas psilocybin session, Grob (the researcher) readministered the depression and anxiety assessments. Over all among his subjects, he found that their scores on the anxiety scale at one and three months after treatment demonstrated a sustained reduction in anxiety, the researchers wrote in The Archives of General Psychiatry. They also found that their subjects scores on the Beck Depression Inventory dropped significantly at the six-month follow-up.

Whats remarkable about the research results from this and many other studies is that even a single dose of a psychedelic substance can create long lasting changes, reducing anxiety, depression, and creating more emotional openness.

LSD, MDMA, and mushrooms have all been studied for anxiety reduction. Remember that a psychedelic experience can sometimes produce anxiety or can focus the mind on sources of anxiety, as part of the process of addressing the root causes. Starting with small doses and following all the safety guidelines can help reduce anxiety.

Psychedelics have been misunderstood and misrepresented for decades. That's changing. Please help us share safe, responsible information on using psychedelics by sending this page to friends, and posting to Facebook, Twitter, and Google:

Can You Take Psychedelics With Antidepressants?

This post may contain references to our products or those of our affiliate partners. We encourage you to read our Revenue & Transparency page to learn more about how we fund our mission.

Moderate doses of psychedelics have been shown to effectively treatdepression, anxiety,PTSD, andother mental health conditions and even microdoses havebeen reported to hold significant benefit. Although we dont recommend it, many people are turning to psychedelics as a form of self-treatment for mental health conditions. And this brings up the potential problem of antidepressant medication interfering with the effects of psychedelics.

Unfortunately there has been no solid research performed on the interaction between psychedelics and antidepressants. Therefore most of the advice we provide here is based on anecdotal evidence and case reports. We recommend discussing issues with your physician before making any decisions.

The classic psychedelics (includingLSD,psilocybinandDMT) work by affecting the serotonin system, and most antidepressants work by targeting serotonin signaling too. Therefore wed expect for there to be some kind of interaction between the two unfortunately we just dont know anything for sure right now.

From anecdotal reports, it looks as if the SSRI class of antidepressants weakens the effects of classic psychedelics although this absolutely doesnt mean you should take more of the psychedelic substance to compensate.

Many people advise against taking Lithium or other tricyclics with classic psychedelics, as they have been known to put people intocomatose statesorinduce seizures.Avoid this combination until we know for sure about its safety!

MAOI medications appear to haveeffectssimilar to SSRIs when combined with classic psychedelics.

Since we know so little about how classic psychedelics and antidepressants interact, we advise against taking them together. Dont risk making things worse for yourself. If you are absolutely determined to try a psychedelic, it may be wise to wean yourself off your medication first but always check with your physician.

Anecdotal reportssuggest that takingMDMAwhile on antidepressants can either numb the effects, completely abolish the effects, or cause a really unpleasant hangover! Since SSRIs mess with your serotonin system, and bind to some of the same targets as MDMA, there is the potential for unpleasant interactions. Dr Ben Sessa, an MDMA researcher, saysThe general rule is dont combine SSRIs with MDMA.

Taking MDMA while on MAOIs is alsopotentially dangerous. Its definitely best to avoid this combination, as it could lead toserotonin syndrome(which can be fatal!).

We dont know much about what you can combine withmescaline, but as its mode of action is similar to the classic psychedelics, its probably best to assume that it wont combine well with antidepressants.

Ayahuascais a little more complicated than other psychedelics when it comes to antidepressants, because the psychedelic brew contains MAOIs, which can cause fatal reactions when mixed with other drugs. We advise a total purge from all substances before taking ayahuasca, to avoid the risk of the potentially fatalserotonin syndrome.

Here is a listof all substances you should absolutely avoid if youre determined to take ayahuasca.

Ibogaineis another natural psychedelic with a potential risk of toxicity. Healthcare professionalsrecommend weaning off all medicationbefore taking a dose of ibogaine.

Be aware that ibogaine ispotentially the most dangerous psychedelic substance out there, as it can cause heart failure in seemingly safe situations. It is usually a last resort for people suffering from severe addiction.

We know nothing about interactions here although we know thatSalviaworks on a very different neurotransmitter system than most antidepressants, and we havent heard any reports of unpleasant effects resulting from mixing Salvia with antidepressants.

Were not medical doctors, and we dont pretend to be. Unfortunately the research isnt in place for anyone to give solid advice about mixing psychedelics with antidepressants. So be safe, be cautious, and always check with your physician before changing your drug-taking habits.

Beginners Guide to Microdosing Psychedelics

This is a guest post by Mansal Denton. Heis unaffiliated with Pure Nootropics and his thoughts and experiences are his own. Pure Nootropics does not condone or encourage the use of illicit or illegal substances.

================

Psychedelics are a big part of my personal growth and success.

The experiences with psychedelics have:

And Im not the only one

Popular writer, Michael Pollan, described The Trip Treatment of psilocybin and the potential use for treating anxiety, addiction, and depression.

Famed author and personality, Tim Ferriss, has had numerous discussions about psychedelics, such as LSD, mushrooms, and even ayahuasca. It was Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) host and comedian, Joe Rogan, who got me interested in the subject.

But beyond using psychedelics as a mystical experience, there is a subset who are finding ways to use them for a different purpose.

Through microdosing of psychedelic drugs, many people are finding cognitive advantages to improve the execution of their work and achieve more.

Less than a month before writing this piece Rolling Stone published an article about how LSD microdosing became the hot new business trip Of course, Forbes, GQ, the Telegraph, and dozens of other outlets re-published the same popular piece (Nov 2015).

I have been saying that nootropics are used by Silicon Valley execs, Wall Street traders, and just about every other high performance individual in between, but this is the next level

Lets get started, shall we?

Austin, Texas is becoming a hub for a new kind of entrepreneur, hippie, and hipster breed. As gross as that might be to visually imagine, it actually creates an amazing environment for testing personal practices, such as microdosing.

While I have sifted through scientific research, particularly from Dr. James Fadiman in the 1970s, much of this is based on anecdotes, experiences, and interviews.

Names have been changed to protect those who shared their experiences.

Microdosing is using small doses of powerful psychedelic drugs in order to improve working conditions. In contrast, full psychedelic experiences are often mystical and not conducive to completing work-related tasks.

There are several purported advantages including:

Problem-solving

Imagine you have been working on a problem for weeks without finding an adequate solution. You wake up every morning, put in your time, but still dont feel satisfied with your results.

That was the basis for a 1966 experiment organized by Dr. James Fadiman among others. This experiment took 27 male subjects (16 engineers, 2 mathematicians, 2 architects, 1 engineer-physicist, and others) and required them to bring a professional problem they had been working on for at least 3 months with a desire to solve it.

After providing these subjects with 200 mg of mescaline sulphate, the subjects had 4 hours to work on their professional problem. Almost all of them reported greater problem-solving ability and at least 12 had breakthrough solutions.

Creativity

Eric Clough was an architect in 1966 during the same era of research who wrote The consensus among the architects interviewedseems to be that LSD, when administered under carefully controlled conditions, does enhance creativity aids in visualizing three-dimensionally, and generally heightens perceptivity. (Fadiman, 170)

Numerous microdosing practitioners report having more creativity, which often ties into problem-solving. However, for musicians and artists, the creativity may help produce exceptional work in the absence of a definitive problem that needs solving.

Mood

Many psychedelics drastically enhance mood and happiness because of their interaction with serotonin receptors. Psilocybin decreases depressive and anxiety-related symptoms. The same is true for most other psychedelic drugs through small microdoses.

Physical

In a book Tryptamine Palace, author James Oroc asserts Virtually all athletes who learn to use LSD believe that the use of these compounds improves both their stamina and their abilities. According to the combined reports of 40 years of use by the extreme sports underground, LSD can increase your re-flex time to lightning speed, improve your balance to the point of perfection, increase your concentration

It sounds nice, but I spoke with my friend Larry to get his experiences and confirmed the same phenomenon. Both LSD and o-acetylpsilocin (prodrug for psilocin) offered strong physical energy and endurance beyond the norm.

These are just a few of the benefits of microdosing specifically. Note that the heroic dose, which provides mystical and self-reflective experiences, does not provide the same problem-solving or physical endurance effects. In fact, it might be the opposite in some circumstances so be careful when microdosing.

In scientific studies, the letter n is used to refer to the sample size. If you test something in a group of 5 friends, the sample size is 5 (n=5). The term n=1 is used to describe a sample size of 1, which is you. Therefore, the popularized term in biohacking circles is meant to encourage self-testing as opposed to listening to what everyone else believes.

There are at least 3 acquaintances with whom I spoke about microdosing. Larry is an entrepreneur creating a health-food company and had the most extensive experiences with microdosing. He felt LSD had a more complete microdosing experience even though mushrooms improved his physical energy and endurance profoundly.

Both Larry and another named Josh reported cycling LSD microdoses once every 3 4 days because of tolerance and ability to connect with others. Larry concluded that 10 12 mcg is better for physical endurance and concentration, while 12 15 mcg is better for creative thinking and problem-solving.

In contrast to these generally positive experiences, there is a individual self-experiment by Gwern that showed No beneficial effects reachedLSD microdosing did not help me. He continues to show how he tested and calculated things.

Another trained pianist and composer on Reddit took 30 40 mcg microdoses and reported The experience could be described as slightly withdrawn and I felt like I had worse coordination and consequently lower accuracy in playing.

Given the mixed nature of these anecdotal experiences, I recommend taking an N=1 approach. Understand that each individual is different and the dosage and microdosing that works for one person may not work for you.

The evidence from Fadimans research in the 1960s along with other testimony leads me to be cautiously optimistic about microdosing benefits, but dont expect it to solve all your professional or personal problems.

Again, neither I nor Pure Nootropics condone or recommend using illegal or illicit drugs. This is the process for microdosing that is reported through the experiments of Dr. James Fadiman and the experiences of others.

Given that microdosing with LSD is most common. Here is a briefguide for most accurately dosing. This is called volumetric dosing and it offers the most superior and accurate result.

(Tools needed: Scale, Pipette bottle, distilled water, tab of LSD)

Here are some of the common mistakes people make when trying to microdose:

Mistake #1 Do not cut the tab of LSD into strips in order to divide the dosage. For one, this is incredibly difficult to do accurately (given the small size of most LSD tabs). It also does not account for hotspots, which are heightened concentrations and uneven distribution on the tab itself. Instead, use the volumetric dosing with distilled water method explained above.

Mistake #2 Taking the incorrect dose. While each dose will have different effects for different people, some guidance can be helpful. 20 mcg of LSD is usually considered the high end of the microdose range, but some people go as high as 50 mcg. For LSD the lower doses tend to have concentration and slight mood benefits (5 12 mcg) while 12 20 mcg is a dose for problem-solving and creativity with more felt effects.

If you are using o-acetylpsilocin for a mushroom microdose (easier than trying to weigh actual mushrooms precisely), dosage recommendations are around 3 4 mg for microdosing.

Mistake #3 Taking doses too often. Most accounts recommended once every 3 4 days maximum, but longer is also good. LSD is particularly subject to tolerance and doing it every other day can create uncomfortable relationships with reality.

Mistake #4 Obviously sourcing makes a big difference with microdosing. A poor quality product with a big dose is less impactful, but when you rely on a tiny dose to provide effects, opt for quality.

Learn Everything You Need To Know About MDMA (Ecstasy)

(Ecstasy, E, X, XTC, Rolls, Beans, Adam, Molly)

3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine

C11H15NO2

Disclaimer: MDMA is a potentially illegal substance, and we do not encourage or condone the use of this substance where it is against the law. However, we accept that illegal drug use occurs, and believe that offering responsible harm reduction information is imperative to keeping people safe. For that reason, this guide is designed to ensure the safety of those who decide to use the substance.

Overview 01

MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy or Molly, is primarily a recreational drug that causes euphoric feelings, increased empathy with others, and enhanced sensations. Sounds and colors are often experienced more intensely, making MDMA a popular recreational drug at raves and music festivals.

Currently, it is in Phase III clinical trials for use as a therapeutic aid in the treatment of PTSD, and has been granted Breakthrough Therapy status by the FDA.

It is most commonly taken as an oral tablet that comes in a variety of shapes and colors, but it can also be snorted or smoked.

MDMA can be deadly when combined with other drugs (especially PMA/PMMA), and can also be deadly on its own at high doses.

History & Stats 02

The history of MDMA began decades before the rave culture that popularized it.

A common myth perpetuated by both the scientific community and media outlets is that MDMA was first synthesized and patented by the German pharmaceutical company Merck as an appetite suppressant.

Merck did synthesize the drug in 1912, but the appetite suppressant story is an urban legend. Instead, it was developed as a potentially life-saving blood clotting medicine.

Very little, if any, testing was done in the early years after its first synthesis. It wasnt until 1927 that Merck revived interest in the drug. A chemist named Max Oberlin predicted that MDMA might mimic adrenaline since the chemicals shared a similar molecular structure. Not long after these initial studies, however, the prices of chemical precursors skyrocketed and testing was put on hold.

It is not exactly known when the first human trials with MDMA were conducted, but the US military is known to have tested it and other drugs on humans in the 1950s.

The first recipe for MDMA was published in a polish-language scientific journal in 1960 and tablets began popping up in seized contraband in the 1970s.

Dr. Alexander Shulgin first read about MDMA in the early 1970s at which point he synthesized it and tried it himself, becoming the first person to officially record ecstasy use in a human subject in 1978.[1] In the 1980s, its use in MDMA-assisted psychotherapy was said to increase patient self-esteem and facilitate therapeutic communication.[2]

While Shulgin is often called the Godfather of Ecstasy, the real creator of MDMA was a German scientist named Anton Kollisch, who died in 1916 never knowing the legacy he left.

Since 1985, MDMA has been listed as a schedule I drug in the United States, making it effectively illegal for all uses, but some limited clinical trials have been approved and conducted in recent years. In 2011, a federal court sided with the ACLU who argued that punishments for MDMA possession and use were based on outdated science which led to overly severe prison sentences,[3] but other courts have upheld the previous sentencing laws.

The annual National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that MDMA had been used at least once by 13.1% of people between the ages of 18 and 25, and 6.5% of people age 26 and over. Full results from the survey are below.

These trends appear to be holding relatively steady:

Its appearance in published reports and literature reached a peak in the early- to mid- 2000s and has fallen quite a bit since then:

Google search interest over the past decade or so has slowly but steadily increased before plateauing the past few years:

MDMA Street Names 03

As one of the most popular psychedelics and party drugs, MDMA has earned a varied assortment of street names. In fact, there may be more nicknames for MDMA than for any other substance besides weed.

Some of these refer to the compound generally, in whatever form, while others refer to set preparations. Ecstasy could fall into either category but it usually refers to tablets, or pills.[15] Its name was supposedly changed from Empathy early on to boost sales appeal.[16]

The marketing of ecstasy pills, complete with trusted logos and brand names,[17] has actually spawned a number of other enduring street names, including Doves. However, most ecstasy brand names, while popular in their own right, havent caught on as street names for pills in general. These include Mitsubishi, Little Rocket, and Dolphin (or Blue Dolphin).[18]Some other generic street names for pills include:

Molly, short for molecular,[19] refers to crystal (powder) MDMA.[15] In the UK, its also known as Mandy. Other names from around the world include:[20]

Pharmacology 04

MDMA affects the brain by increasing activity levels of three different neurotransmitters: dopamine, norepinephrine (noradrenaline), and serotonin.[4]

Increases in dopamine account for euphoric effects, as well as increased energy. Physiological effects while under the influence of ecstasy are caused by increases in norepinephrine/noradrenaline. These include increased heart rate and blood pressure.MDMA effects on the serotonin system cause characteristic changes in mood, appetite, sexual arousal, and sleep cycles. Spikes in serotonin after taking MDMA likely account for feelings of emotional closeness and empathy that are commonly reported by users.

Potentially fatal neurological complications can occur following MDMA ingestion, likely due to short-term hypertension and dehydration that is induced by the drug. Necrosis of liver and heart tissue has also been reported in individuals where death was associated with the use of amphetamine derivatives.[5]

Many fatal cases are due to abnormally high doses, prior health complications, a bad batch of MDMA, or a combination of all of these. Its also particularly difficult to tell exactly how much of role MDMA plays in adverse reactions in many cases because users are more likely to have used multiple drugs.[6] Like with any substance, it should be used in moderation, as heavy users tend to experience more complications than occasional users.[7]

Clinical studies with pure MDMA have been conducted on over 1100 individuals without the occurrence of severe adverse effects.[8]

Pure MDMA? 05

The purity of MDMA is notoriously variable, especially in tablet form. In the US, for instance, the average MDMA concentration in ecstasy tablets (or pills) is reported to be 30.13%.[21] But this includes samples as low as 0% and as high as 100%. Also, while the sample size varies (from 1 to 1000 pills), individual state averages can be double or half the national average.

Still, this is something of a recent improvement. In 2008, police seizures of the chemical precursor safrole meant that, for years, street MDMA concentration in ecstasy pills was very often zero.[22] Since then, the percentage of dud pills (tablets containing no MDMA) has been rapidly falling. Meanwhile, the percentage of ecstasy pills containing MDMA alone, without any adulterants, has been climbing. In 2009, 60.1% of ecstasy tablets worldwide contained no MDMA whatsoever, whereas just 8.7% contained MDMA alone. By 2018, the situation was reversed: 8.8% of ecstasy tablets contained no MDMA, while 54.8% contained MDMA alone.[23]

Part of this has to do with new manufacturing methods. Underground chemists now synthesize MDMA with a less heavily restricted precursor. But it also has to do with the darknet, where vendor ratings and competition naturally drive the quality up.[24]

In fact, far from the days of there being too little MDMA in pills, nowadays theres often too much. Super-strength ecstasy tablets have made headlines in recent years for killing unsuspecting users. Whereas the MDMA content in ecstasy pills is traditionally between 80 and 120mg, some have been found to contain upwards of 300mg.[25] A high-end dose like this can be dangerous enough in itself, let alone when youre not expecting it.

EcstasyData.org and Pill Reports are excellent resources for gauging the safety of specific pills. However, they should only be used as a guide. The safest way to use ecstasy pills is to start with just half a tablet and gauge how you feel over an hour.[26][27]

What about the purity of Molly (crystal MDMA)?

Despite what you may have been sold, even in crystal or powder form, pure MDMA is difficult to find on the street. However, street MDMA concentration has been climbing in recent years. In the UK, at least, it has apparently reached 83%.[28] Accounting for the molar mass of the hydrochloride (HCl) salt that most MDMA is made as, this is pretty much the maximum purity.[29]

MDMA in pure form, or free base MDMA, has by definition a purity of 100%.

Unfortunately, whatever form its in, your ecstasy is unlikely to be pure. In other words, theres probably something else in itand adulterants can sometimes be deadly.Using an MDMA test kit is a good precaution. These can show up the presence of, firstly, MDMA, and secondly, toxic adulterants by a color change you can check on a chart. However, chemical reagent tests like this cannot tell you the purity and theyre only indicative at best. They should, therefore, be used alongside other harm reduction practices.[30]

A caution on PMA/PMMA (aka Death)

The prohibition of MDMA in most countries (and especially the police seizures of safrole in 2008/2010 interrupting the supply of ecstasy) has led to the emergence of unknown alternatives. These substances, about which we know relatively little, tend to be far more dangerous than MDMA. And yet theyre legal by default in many jurisdictions.

Following the procedure for making MDMA with aniseed oil instead of safrole, for example, yields not ecstasy but the problematic substances para-Methoxyamphetamine (PMA) or para-Methoxy-N-methylamphetamine (PMMA).[37] Both have been implicated in the deaths of unsuspecting users from as early as 1993.[38] In December 2014/January 2015, for instance, at least three men died after taking the same pink Superman pills containing PMA.[36][37]

PMA/PMMA can be 10-20 times more potent than MDMA.[36][37] So users taking a safe dose of what they believe to be ecstasy could be massively overdosing on a far riskier substance. PMA/PMMA are also slower-acting, which means experienced ecstasy users are likely to re-dose too soon, taking even more of this harmful drug into their bodies.

The trouble is, PMA/PMMA are not analogs of MDMA. They have a different pharmacological action. Unlike ecstasy, they block certain enzymes (e.g. monoamine oxidase, or MAO) that offset the release of serotonin. And, as a result, they can lead to serotonin syndrome, which can be deadly.[37][38]

Reagent testing can help to identify the presence of PMA/PMMA; however, the presence of real MDMA could disguise the presence of PMA/PMMA as adulterants. Checking pills against user reports online, e.g. at EcstasyData.org and Pill Reports, is, therefore, a sensible precaution.

If youre enjoying this guide, youll probably love the information in our detailed Microdosing Course.

Microdosing is the most exciting trend in the world today when it comes to unlocking creativity, focus, and self-expression. But a lot of people dont know where to start or get overwhelmed by trying to figure everything out themselves from broken resources around the internet.

Thats why we put together this detailed, step-by-step course. It explains everything you wanted to know about microdosing (and even answers the questions you didnt know to ask).

Effects 06

Most tablets available for recreational use contain between 80 and 150 mg of MDMA.[9] At this dose level, the onset of effects occur approximately 20 to 60 minutes after taking the drug, and the characteristic effects (euphoria, increased empathy, increased energy, enhanced sensations) typically last for 3 to 5 hours.

The MDMA high is usually characterized by a relaxed, euphoric state, including emotional openness, empathy, reduction of negative thoughts, and a decrease in inhibitions. Sounds and colors can also appear more intense.

Some adverse physiological effects can occur after ingesting MDMA and include elevated blood pressure and heart rate, nausea, chills, sweating, tremor, jaw clenching, hyperreflexia, urinary urgency, muscle aches or tension, hot and cold flushes, nystagmus, and insomnia. At higher doses, these physiological changes can result in severe adverse reactions.

MDMA overdose can (and does) kill. A high dose of MDMA can be a contributing factor in deadly conditions such as hyperthermia, exhaustion or hyperhydration. Additionally, MDMA can trigger serotonin syndrome, a potentially deadly overloading of the bodys serotonin levels.

Many people report an unpleasant comedown after a night of heavy MDMA use, including feelings of depression and fatigue. In our microdosing course, MDMA expert Dr Ben Sessa explains how the typical MDMA comedown is due to overexertion, poor sleep, poor diet, and polydrug use. As such, the MDMA comedown can be countered by eating and sleeping well after taking MDMA, keeping hydrated if youre dancing, and avoiding taking any other substances (including alcohol). Additionally, supplement kits are available online, claiming to help prepare and repair your body.

Myths 07

Although one of the most famous ecstasy-related deaths was caused by overhydration, MDMA itself will not make you drink yourself to death. The victim in this infamous case thought that by drinking a large amount of water, they would counteract an unpleasant ecstasy experience. Unfortunately, MDMA also makes it harder for the body to process water, meaning she died from water retention.

This doesnt mean you should avoid drinking water on ecstasy. Taking a very high dose of ecstasy can cause an inability to regulate your hydration, so you should make sure youre drinking water regularly. This is especially if youre dancing or exerting yourself.

The main cause of ecstasy-related deaths is a lack of education. People dont know how to take the drug safely, and end up increasing their health risks. When used responsibly, it is a relatively safe drug.

Although MDMA is very popular for use in clubs due to its enhancement of music and dance, that doesnt mean its exclusively a clubbers drug. Many people take it in a spiritual or therapeutic context. It can be used for various forms of personal and relationship development, and clinical trials are using it to treat sufferers of post-traumatic stress disorder.

There is no evidence that moderate use of MDMA (less than 100mg every few weeks) can cause damage to your brain.

Frequent, high dose use can cause heart problems and memory problems. Additionally, its relatively easy to overdose on MDMA if its combined with other drugs, especially PMA/PMMA. MDMA overdose can be lethal.

So although sensible use is relatively safe, it can be harmful in large amounts.

Therapeutic Use 08

In 2017, MDMA was approved for use in Phase 3 clinical trials in the US to treat posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).[10] [11] This is one of the last phases of testing before a drug is legally approved for therapeutic use. The trials are being funded by MAPS.

MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD involves only a few administrations of the drug alongside guided professional therapy. The drug used in these trials is pure, with dosages strictly controlled unlikely the typical use of recreational ecstasy.

Patients who have undergone this therapy typically have a particularly treatment-resistant form of PTSD (many of them are war veterans). They report that MDMA therapy helped them approach their past trauma with a greater sense of acceptance, warmth, and compassion for themselves, allowing them greater opportunity to cope and heal.

Read more about the use of MDMA in the treatment of PTSD here.

Preliminary results from a few studies suggest MDMA is also a promising treatment for social anxiety in individuals with autism.[12] In a clinical setting, it can be used to shift a patient with social anxiety towards openness and encourage introspection. Early results suggest this is accomplished with infrequent or even single doses, eliminating the need for frequent administration of the drug, thereby mitigating the possible adverse side effects and many of the costs associated with longer-term, more involved therapies.

This same mechanism appears to operate in treating patients with life-threatening illnesses who experience clinical anxiety as well.[13]

Thats why we put together this detailed, step-by-step course. It explains everything you wanted to know about microdosing (and even answers the questions you didnt know to ask).

Personal Growth 09

Opinions vary among spiritual leaders and guides, but MDMA is sometimes cited as a tool that can be used for spiritual growth. Some spiritual teachers laud its ability to induce feelings of oneness, interconnectedness, empathy, compassion, warmth and kindness towards others, and, importantly, a lack of self-consciousness. States such as these are often catalysts for spiritual epiphanies and further spiritual and personal development.

As one Benedictine monk put it:

MDMA always propels me into an intimate space in conversation. There is a special quality to this conversation. One feels a heaviness, a sense of the weight of the moment, of something profound, of the seriousness of life itself. It is a space that is inner, without masks, without pretense, utterly open and honest. It is not an erotic intimacy, but a philosophical and mystical intimacy. Does this make any sense? One has the consciousness that this is an inner communication rarely achieved in ordinary discourse. There really are no adequate words to express this state of awareness, only to say, that it is essential in my experience.

MDMA can be used in many different sets and settings to invoke spiritual development from sitting quietly and introspecting, to meditating in groups, to therapy. Even rolling at raves can have a spiritual quality if the user approaches it with the right intentions.

MDMA could also be a useful tool for building or repairing relationships. Alexander Shulgin, the Godfather of Ecstasy, has written frequently on its potential use as a therapy for couples. The emotional intimacy produced by ecstasy could be the key to understanding our relationships and perhaps finding the places that need work.

Legality 10

MDMA is a Schedule I substance in the United States, which makes it illegal to manufacture, distribute or possess without a DEA license.[39] Scandalously, this scheduling also suggests that ecstasy has no therapeutic valuecontrary to the findings of MDMA clinical trials for PTSD. However, given the strength of this research, it seems very likely (if not inevitable) that medical MDMA will soon be available on prescription.[40]

In the UK its a Class A, which is basically the same as Schedule I: Buying, selling or making MDMA is illegal without a license.[41]

The same is true in the majority of countries, but some are more permissive in practice. In the Netherlands, for example, where MDMA is very much illegal, possession of small amounts is often ignored by the police.[39] Meanwhile, in Peru, its perfectly legal to possess up to 250mg (one quarter of a gram) of MDMA, so long as its the only drug on you.[39][42]

FAQ 11

MDMA stands for 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine. Also known as ecstasy, its one of the most popular psychedelics in the world. Its widely seen as more of a party drug than LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, and so on. But its currently re-emerging as a breakthrough psychotherapeutic aid.[31]Researchers are especially enthusiastic about the potential for MDMA in PTSD treatment.

It comes in two basic forms: Tablets (or pills) and crystals (or powder). MDMA pills are often called ecstasy while Molly is MDMA in powder form, or MDMA crystals.

Ecstasy is a type of amphetamine, a stimulant class of drugs that includes speed and methamphetamine. But MDMA is considerably more benign than each of these. As an amphetamine, its also part of the phenethylamine class of substances, like mescaline. Of course, the effects are again substantially different. Based on these, MDMA may be classed as an entactogen or euphoric empathogen.

Regardless of MDMA dosage, ecstasy is a stimulating drug. Most people report a physical and emotional euphoria, along with mild visual effects, such as color enhancement. Increased stamina (e.g. for dancing) is also common.

Crypto Market Near Turning Point: BNB Up 10%, Bitcoin Cash …

The crypto market cap is testing a crucial support, with strong bullish moves in binance coin (BNB). Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), bitcoin cash, ripple, litecoin, tron (TRX), and EOS could bounce back soon.

Recently, bitcoin cash price consolidated near the $310 level for a few hours against the US Dollar. The BCH/USD pair failed to gain strength above $320, resulting in a bearish reaction. The price broke the $300 support and declined more than 4% today.

It is currently trading near the $295 support and the next key support is at $290. On the upside, the previous supports at $300 and $305 may now act as key resistance levels.

EOS price made an attempt to gain strength above the $5.60 resistance level, but it failed. As a result, the price started a downside correction and broke the $5.50 support level. The price even broke the $5.45 level and it may now test the next key support at $5.40. On the upside, the main resistances are near $5.55 and $5.60.

Tron price failed to stay above the $0.0272 and $0.0270 support levels and declined recently. TRX price broke the $0.0268 level and recently tested the $0.0265 support. If there are more losses, the price may revisit the $0.0260 support area.

Binance coin (BNB) was the best performer in the top 10 as it rallied close to 10%. BNB price surged above the $20.00 and $21.00 resistance levels to set a new 2019 high. It even spiked above the $22.00 resistance level and corrected lower towards the $21.50 support. On the downside, the next key supports are near the $21.20 and $21.00 levels.

Looking at the total cryptocurrency market cap hourly chart, there was a downside reaction from the $173.0B level. The market cap declined below $170.0B and tested the key $168.0B support and the 100 SMA. There is also a major bullish trend line in place with support near the $168.0B level. A break below the trend line could open the doors for more losses. Conversely, as long as the trend line is intact, there could be a strong comeback in bitcoin, ether, TRX, LTC, EOS, ripple, ADA, XLM, WAN, BCH, XMR and other altcoins in the coming sessions.

Yesterday, the Bitcoin Cash network activated its second scheduled semi-annual hard fork since the cryptocurrency split away from the original Bitcoin blockchain. Unlike the previous protocol upgrade, however, this fork was contentious, with development teams launching two competing, incompatible BCH implementations.

The group adhering to the official Bitcoin Cash roadmap was Bitcoin ABC, which had support from most node operators, as well as prominent individuals and companies such as Roger Ver (Bitcoin.com) and Jihan Wu (Bitmain).

Several months before the fork, blockchain startup nChain, which is associated with self-described Bitcoin creator Craig S. Wright, announced that it would launch a competing client, Bitcoin SV, which introduced an alternative set of consensus changes. Billionaire Calvin Ayre, the owner of CoinGeek the largest bitcoin cash mining pool was SVs other major backer.

Fellow BCH development group Bitcoin Unlimited released a BCH client that followed the ABC consensus changes by default but allowed miners to manually configure support for individual features in the ABC and SV clients in an unsuccessful bid to broker a compromise and avoid a chain split.

Strictly speaking, there could have been three competing versions if any miners decided to continue mining according to the pre-fork consensus rules, but all of the hashrate migrated to one or the other of the two new rulesets, killing off the original chain.

For more on the events that led up to the fork, consult this article from CCN.

Note: Once the dust finally settles, Bitcoin ABC is expected to retain the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) label. In the interim, the community has not yet reached consensus on how to refer to the competing blockchains. In the remainder of this article, to avoid confusion, we will refer to Bitcoin ABCs chain as BCHABC (other common names include BAB and ABC) and Bitcoin SVs chain as BSV (also known as BCHSV and SV).

Leading up to the Nov. 15 fork, the Bitcoin Cash civil war was largely framed as a contest between users (BCHABC) and miners (BSV), with the latter boasting as much as three-quarters of the hash rate in the days preceding the split and threatening to use this superior hash power to not only acquire the most accumulated Proof-of-Work (PoW) but also to attack the BCHABC chain until users capitulated and moved to BSV.

BCHABC is 30 blocks ahead of BSV | Source: Coin Dance

That quickly changed following the fork, however, as BCHABC mined the first two blocks under the new consensus rules and for the most part maintained a blockchain that was consistently longer than BSVs. As of the time of writing, roughly 185 blocks had been mined under the new consensus rules, and the BCHABC chain was 30 blocks ahead of BSV, according to Coin Dance.

At one point, BCHABCs hashrate was more than double the size of BSVs, a reversal of how the hash rate was signaling ahead of the fork, though the gap narrowed on Friday to 6.7EH/s for BCHABC, 5.0EH/s for BSV, and curiously 17PH/s for the original BCH chain, whose hashrate flatlined following the fork and remained at 0PH/s for 10 consecutive hours.

Source: Coin Dance

This sequence of events, ironically, is reminiscent of the fork that created Bitcoin Cash in the first place, which was activated with broad miner support even though users largely backed BTC. Despite brief uncertainty, profit-driven miners eventually gravitated back to Bitcoin, whose hashrate is now around seven to 10 times larger than BCH.

Presumably, some miners had signaled for BSV ahead of the fork but shifted their hash power to other networks, such as BTC, following the fork to avoid mining at a loss.

However, a significant percentage of the missing hashrate belonged to CoinGeek and BMG (which is operated by nChain). Recognizing this, Bitcoin ABC head developer Amaury Schet warned that CoinGeek and nChain were likely following through on their promises to launch a malicious mining attack against BCHABC.

What we are seeing right now, though or rather, what we are not seeing right now, is CoinGeek and BMGs hashrate. Right? Its completely gone. Its not winning, mining anywhere that we can see. What that tells me is, you know, they have not thrown like 2 exahash at this, right? So they are preparing some kind of attack, he said several hours after the fork.

That attack had not yet materialized as of the time of writing, however, and by Friday it appeared that BMG had shifted its hash power to BSV, asSchet (who tweets under @deadalnix) later noted.

Notably, both BCHABC and BSV are characterized by alarming hash power centralization, with each network featuring a single mining pool accounting for a majority of blocks mined since the fork. On BSV, this is CoinGeek, who currently has 50 percent of the networks mining power, while Bitcoin.com accounts for a full 63 percent on BCHABC (though the Bitcoin.com pool website indicates that its hash rate, which ballooned to 4EH/s at various points following the fork, is now back down to around normal levels at 122PH/s as of the time of writing).

Both BCHABC and BSV are very centralized in terms of mining power | Source: Coin Dance

According to BitMEX Research, BSV miners are losing at least $280,000 per day relative to the value of the coins and likely more which will put pressure on profit-motivated miners to cut their losses and switch to BCHABC or BTC.

Even if the SV mining collation do catch up with ABC or if they manage to do hostile chain re-orgs, its highly unlikely BCash ABC users & investors will ever switch to follow SV. ABC users just need to be patient & wait it out. @CalvinAyre & the SV miners will eventually give up, the firm wrote on Twitter, doubling down on BitMEX Researchs Jonathan Biers pre-fork prediction that miners would ultimately abandon the BSV fork.

That said, BCHABC is currently even more expensive to mine since it has almost twice the difficulty of BSV.

Crucially, though, neither mining group has the ability to sell their coins until exchanges begin taking BCH deposits. Thus, all BCH miners are currently mining at a loss, with the expectation that their support for one chain or the other will consolidate support behind that network and allow its coins to return to the pre-fork value of bitcoin cash.

Consequently, the question is not currently which chain is more profitable to mine in the short-term so much as it is, in the mid-term, which chain is more likely to survive the other, win the BCH ticker symbol, and attract buy support on exchanges. By these metrics, BSV currently seems like the riskier gamble.

Virtually every cryptocurrency exchange froze bitcoin cash trading ahead of the fork, and no major platform has reopened unified BCH markets, nor will they do so until there is apparent consensus behind one chain or the other.

However, several exchanges have allowed traders who are already holding BCH on their platforms to split their coins into BCHABC and BSV futures that are tradeable but not currently withdrawable.

Aside from a temporary reversal a day before the fork, BCHABC consistently traded at a significant premium to BSV in the days preceding the fork and the hours since. As of the time of writing, BCHABC was trading at around $285, down from a 24-hour high of $341. BSV, meanwhile, had stabilized around $104 after briefly dipping as low as $69.

Importantly, though, the majority of BCH investors have not yet claimed their post-fork coins. A certain percentage will decline to split their coins in the short-term altogether, either because they plan to hold funds on both chains, do not think it is worth their time to sell the coins on the other chain, or are not comfortable with the technical process that splitting coins involves.

However, there is also likely a significant number of BCH holders who want to sell the coins on the losing chain before they become valueless but wanted to wait until after the fork to see which network had the upper hand. Of these cautious would-be sellers, most would be holding funds in user-controlled wallets or on exchanges that have not opened BCHABC/BSV trading.

Once major exchanges begin to reenable BCH deposits and open post-fork markets, one would expect to see a mad rush to sell funds on the chain viewed as less viable. Once again, at the current state of play, this would not bode well for BSV, which is not to say that conditions could not shift in the interim.

Craig Wright warned BCHABC supporters that the hash war is a marathon, not a sprint. | Source: CoinGeek/YouTube

Taking the above factors into consideration, proponents of Bitcoin ABC have largely declared victory, increasingly believing that an SV-led attack on BCHABC is unlikely to succeed.

Moreover, they claim that since hash rate was the metric by which SV proponents argued that the outcome of the fork should be judged, BCHABC has beaten BSV at its own game.

Bitcoin SV, however, has refused to concede that it has lost the hash war. Backers allege that ABC has used rented hash power to give its blockchain an early lead and that this will not be sustainable over the long-term.

Craig Wright, for example, has taken to referring to the battle as a marathon in which ABC sprinters will quickly find themselves winded.

In our hash competition, we have seen the ABC team bring on their strongest sprinters. We are just at the trials and not yet on the finals to Marathon and they have made a remarkable burst to do a 9.9 second 100m (unfortunately in the wrong direction), he tweeted Friday morning.

Calvin Ayre, meanwhile, said in a statement provided to CCN that the outcome of the fork will be decided over the course of many weeks not one or two days and made the dubious prediction that Bitmain will bankrupt itself trying to defeat BSV.

CoinGeek and nChain are in this battle for the long haul. We will mine BCH and fight as long as it takes to protect the original Bitcoin from Bitmain, Jihan Wu, and their Bitcoin ABC development group who all want to change BCH into some alt-coin Wormhole token technology. Roger Vers company Bitcoin.com is subsidizing hash for only 24 hours, taken from his own customers. As for Bitmain, to keep up with us in this hash war, Bitmain will have to spend millions of dollars a day from its investors money and shareholder assets, while also trying to raise more investor money for its shaky IPO. This will bleed Bitmains cash and cryptocurrency reserves, because we are prepared to fight for months and months. If I were a shareholder or investor in Bitmain, Id be asking why Jihan Wu is spending all your money to control BCH when Bitmains business supports multiple cryptocurrencies.

Ayre also accused Bitcoin.com of cheating by using transient hash to manipulate the market and Roger Ver of launching a DDoS attack against the CoinGeek website.

Many cryptocurrency investors have wondered how the Bitcoin Cash hard fork will affect other projects, particularly its older sibling, Bitcoin (BTC). The good news is that, practically speaking, the fork has no effect on BTC, other than perhaps making it even less likely that Bitcoin Cash already the minority fork and now itself splintering into competing versions will overtake BTC and claim the Bitcoin mantle.

That said, the cryptocurrency market endured a steep decline in the days immediately preceding the BCH hard fork, leading many analysts to connect the sell-off with investor uncertainty surrounding the fork.

Some, such as hedge fund manager and CNBC commentator Brian Kelly, speculated that the bitcoin price had declined ahead of the fork since traders were nervous that bitcoin mining giant Bitmain would shift so much hash power from BTC to BCH that it would disrupt the ability of the BTC network to continue producing blocks at regular intervals. He predicted that the move would be short-lived.

Mati Greenspan, a senior market analyst at eToro, provided similar commentary, stating that concern over the BTC hash rate coupled with bearish technical factors had driven the bitcoin price decline. Noting that the fork was something of a soap opera, he said that it could cause some investors to become disillusioned with BCH altogether.

Amid this saga, the hard fork may also drive a number of investors away from Bitcoin Cash altogether, into the arms of its parent asset, Bitcoin, Greenspan said in remarks shared with CCN. We can only hope for a swift resolution to the drama.

Bitcoin Cash Futures Volumes: A Prelude to the Recent BCH …

Over the last few weeks, theres been a lot of attention focused on bitcoin cash (BCH) doubling in value and the $10 million worth of BCH-based futures being swapped on the Crypto Facilities platform every month. Last month, Crypto Facilities saw close to $50 million in BCH contracts. Since then, the popular Huobi exchange has also added BCH future contracts and traders can now take both long and short positions using the Huobi Derivative Market (Huobi DM).

Also read: Cryptonite Browser Extension Protects You From Phishing Sites and Fake Profiles

Interest in BCH derivative products has spiked considerably and bitcoin cash spot prices have been on a tear. On April 11, Huobi added BCH to the firms derivative listings and users can now short or long the decentralized cryptocurrency in order to bolster arbitrage and hedging positions. Huobi DM has done well since launching in Q4 of 2018 by offering weekly, bi-weekly, and quarterly cryptocurrency-based futures contracts. Previously the exchange only offered derivatives contracts for bitcoin core (BTC), ethereum (ETH), eos (EOS), litecoin (LTC), and ripple (XRP).

For the newly added BCH contracts, Huobi DM will offer a fee structure for BCH at 0.02% to open or close for makers and 0.03% to open or close for takers. Like traditional derivative platforms, the BCH futures will have price, order, and position limits. Moreover, the exchange provides real-time risk supervision, constant monitoring of contract prices, index prices, abnormal transactions, and positions. With our sophisticated price limit mechanism, no clawback has occurred since its launch, Huobi explained during the launch, adding:

Inclusion on Huobi DM means traders will be able to take both long and short positions on BCH, allowing for arbitrage, speculation, and hedging. Since 2017, Bitcoin Cashs value has fluctuated between $75.08 and $4,355.62.

Bitcoin cash futures markets have seen significant growth over the last few months and Crypto Facilities, a subsidiary of Kraken exchange, has been swapping around $10 million worth of BCH contracts per month. During the first week of April, Crypto Facilities executive Sui Chung explained in an interview that BCH contracts in March saw close to $50 million. This week, on the blockchain broadcast Bloxlive.tv, the cofounder of the Affiliate Economy Token project Jason Fernandes explained why he thinks its important to look at the futures market to see where smart money is moving.

Retail investors have always been kind of wild cards sometimes they dont behave rationally and its really a hype-driven cycle, whereas institutional investors are more disciplined and have a strategy in place, Fernandes told the Bloxlive.tv host. So if you were paying attention to the futures markets you would see the recent surge from bitcoin cash (BCH) and litecoin (LTC) wouldnt have been a surprise. Fernandes continued:

Bitcoin cash saw roughly $10 million per month and we saw that reflect in the price of bitcoin cash when it jumped up last week by something like 43%. I do believe this is a good way to see which way the smart money is moving.

In the last 12 months, BCH markets have enticed exchanges into offering BCH derivatives and traders can swap long and short positions on Bitmex, Crypto Facilities, Coinflex and now Huobi. On Bitmex, the BCH derivative allows traders to speculate on the future value of bitcoin cash with bitcoin core (BCH/BTC). Coinflex latest physically delivered cryptocurrency futures exchange provides users with leverage of up to 20x for bitcoin core (BTC), bitcoin cash (BCH), and ethereum (ETH) against the tether stablecoin (USDT). In the last 30 days, BCH has appreciated by +109.48% and is priced at $279 per coin today on April 14. To some spectators like Fernandes, the uptick of BCH contract volumes on derivatives exchanges one month prior to last weeks spike on spot markets was a reliable signal that smart money was moving in.

What do you think about Huobi adding futures markets and the recent BCH futures volume spike? Do you agree with Fernandes that it is a good way to see which way the smart money is moving? Let us know what you think about this subject in the comments section below.

Bitcoin Cash (BCH) Downside Thrust Underway Before Sharp …

Bitcoin cash price is currently correcting lower below $305 against the US Dollar. BCH could test $285 or even $275 before the bulls take control for a fresh increase.

This week, there was a sharp rally in bitcoin cash from the $255 support area against the US Dollar. BCH/USD rallied above the $285 and $300 resistance levels. There was even a close above the $300 level and the 55 simple moving average (4-hours). The price climbed above the $320 level, but it struggled once again near the $335 and $340 resistances. A swing high was formed at $336 and recently there was a downside correction.

Bitcoin, Ethereum and ripple too corrected lower, dragging bitcoin cash price below the $305 and $300 support levels. There was a break below the 50% Fib retracement level of the last wave from the $255 low to $336 high. More importantly, there was a break below a major bullish trend line with support at $301 on the 4-hours chart of the BCH/USD pair. The pair tested the $290 support level and it is currently near the 55 simple moving average (4-hours).

The 61.8% Fib retracement level of the last wave from the $255 low to $336 high is a strong support near the $286 level. Below $286, the price could extend its decline towards the $275 or $274 support. Once the current correction is complete, the price is likely to bounce back above $300 and $305. The next key resistance is at $315, above which the price may revisit the $335 and $340 resistances.

Looking at the chart, bitcoin cash price seems to be struggling below $305 and $300. It must break a connecting bearish trend line with current resistance at $301 to move into a bullish zone. If it continues to struggle, there is a risk of an extended drop to $285 or $275. If the bulls fail to defend even $275, the price may revisit the $255 support area.

4 hours MACD The MACD for BCH/USD is gaining pace in the bearish zone.

4 hours RSI (Relative Strength Index) The RSI for BCH/USD declined and it is now well below the 45 level.

Key Support Levels $285 and $275.

Key Resistance Levels $300 and $315.

SBI Delists Bitcoin Cash | Keeps Support for Bitcoin SV

In a potentially rebellious move, major Japanese financial services company, SBI Holdings, announced it is delisting Bitcoin Cash (BCH) from its digital currency exchange. Lets check this out.

Yesterday, we covered the controversy surrounding the delisting of Bitcoin SV(BSV). Specifically, the worlds largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, announced yesterday that it will delist this crypto effective April 22nd.

The move comes as a retaliation against the actions of BSV creator Craig Wright (more on that to follow).

But today, tables are turning somewhat as major Japanese financial services company, SBI Holdings, is holding onto Bitcoin SV, but is delisting Bitcoin Cash (BCH). BCHs departure from the exchange will happen in June, and the exchange will keep support for BSV.

As with all things cryptocurrency, there are complications. Bitcoin Cash is the first hard-fork of the leading and original cryptocurrency Bitcoin (BTC) and was created in August 2017. Bitcoin SV, then, is a hard fork of Bitcoin Cash and was created by Craig Wrightwho controversially claims that he is the creator of the original Bitcoin.

Wrights proclamation that he is the person behind the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto has disrupted the cryptosphere. So much so, that several major crypto trading platforms have followed in Binances footsteps and chosen to also delist BSV. A #DelistBSV hashtag has even begun trending throughout social media.

Now, SBI Holdings has come to BSVs defense in a move that is bound to divide the cryptocurrency universe further. Reports from Cointelegraph suggest that the CEO of the financial giant, Yoshitaka Kitao, has a personal connection with Wright. A past Tweet of Wrights stated that Kitao is a friend and man I respect a lot.

>> FBCoin: Facebook Set to Launch Its Own Cryptocurrency Coin

With SBI ousting Bitcoin Cash, its hard to know where the market will go next. Will we start to see an exchange split across the globe? Team BSV vs team BCH?

Despite the news, Bitcoin Cash is climbing in valueup nearly 6% in the past 24-hours, trading at approximately $314 USD.

BSV has crashed this week on the back of the delisting controversy. While SBIs move may help to rescue Wrights pride, it hasnt been able to rescue the coins value. BSV is currently down more than 21% on the day, trading for $55 USD according to CoinMarketCap.

New World Order Explained – The New World Order …

New World Order ExplainedSource: Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_World_Order

In conspiracy theory, the term New World Order or NWO refers to the emergence of a bureaucratic collectivist one-world government.

The common theme in conspiracy theories about a New World Order is that a powerful and secretive elite of globalists is conspiring to eventually rule the world through an autonomous world government, which would replace sovereign nation-states and put an end to international power struggles. Significant occurrences in politics and finance are speculated to be caused by an extremely influential cabal operating through many front organizations. Numerous historical and current events are seen as steps in an on-going plot to achieve world domination through secret political gatherings and decision-making processes.

Prior to the early 1990s, New World Order conspiracism was limited to two American subcultures, primarily the militantly anti-government right, and secondarily Christian fundamentalists concerned with end-time emergence of the Antichrist. Skeptics, such as political scientist Michael Barkun, have expressed concern that right-wing conspiracy theories about a New World Order have now not only been embraced by many left-wing conspiracy theorists but have seeped into popular culture, thereby inaugurating an unrivaled period of people actively preparing for apocalyptic millenarian scenarios in the United States of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. They warn that this development may not only fuel lone-wolf terrorism but have devastating effects on American political life, such as the far right and the far left joining forces to launch an insurrectionary national-anarchist movement capable of subverting the established political powers.

During the 20th century, many statesmen, such as Woodrow Wilson and Winston Churchill, used the term new world order to refer to a new period of history evidencing a dramatic change in world political thought and the balance of power after World War I and World War II. They all saw these periods as opportunities to implement idealistic or liberal proposals for global governance only in the sense of new collective efforts to identify, understand, or address worldwide problems that go beyond the capacity of individual nation-states to solve. These proposals led to the creation of international organizations, such as the United Nations and N.A.T.O., and international regimes, such as the Bretton Woods system and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, which were calculated both to maintain a balance of power as well as regularize cooperation between nations. These creations in particular and internationalism in general, however, would always be criticized and opposed by American paleoconservatives on isolationist grounds and by neoconservatives on benevolent imperalist grounds.

In the aftermath of World Wars I & II, progressives welcomed these new international organizations and regimes but argued they suffered from a democratic deficit and therefore were inadequate to not only prevent another global war but also foster global justice. Thus, activists around the globe formed a world federalist movement bent on creating a real new world order. A number of intellectuals of the reformist left, such as British writer H. G. Wells in the 1940s, adopted and redefined the term new world order as a synonym for the establishment of a full-fledged social democratic world government.

In reaction, conspiracy theorists of the American secular and Christian right, whose paranoia was fueled by Second Red Scare-era unfounded fears of Masonic, Illuminati, and Jewish conspiracies to achieve world communism, began misinterpreting any use of term new world order by members of the Establishment, even when they were simply acknowledging a change in the international balance of power, as a call for the imposition of a state atheistic and bureaucratic collectivist world government, which controls the means of production, while the surplus (profit) is distributed among a ruling class of bureaucrats, rather than among the working class.

In the 1960s, a great deal of right-wing conspiracist attention focused on the United Nations as the vehicle for creating the One World Government, and contributed to a movement for United States withdrawal from the U.N.. American writer Mary M. Davison, in her 1966 booklet The Profound Revolution, traced the alleged New World Order conspiracy to the creation of the U.S. Federal Reserve System in 1913 by international bankers, who she claimed later formed the Council on Foreign Relations in 1921 as the shadow government. At the time the booklet was published, international bankers would have been interpreted by many readers as a reference to a postulated international Jewish banking conspiracy masterminded by the Rothschilds and Rockefellers.

Claiming that the term New World Order is used by a secretive elite dedicated to the destruction of all national sovereignties, American producerist journalist Gary Allen, in his 1974 book Rockefeller: Campaigning for the New World Order and 1987 book Say No! to the New World Order, articulated the anti-globalist theme of much current right-wing conspiracism in the U.S.. Thus, during the 1990s, the main demonized scapegoat of the American far right, represented by the John Birch Society and the Liberty Lobby, shifted seamlessly from crypto-communists who plotted on behalf of the Red Menace to globalists who plot on behalf of the New World Order. The relatively painless nature of the shift was due to growing right-wing opposition to the globalization of capitalism but also in part to the basic underlying apocalyptic millenarian paradigm, which fed the Cold War and the witch-hunts of the McCarthy period.

In his 11 September 1990 Toward a New World Order speech to a joint session of the U.S. Congress, President George H. W. Bush described his ideals for post-Cold-War global governance in cooperation with post-Soviet states:

Chip Berlet, an investigative reporter specializing in the study of right-wing movements in the U.S., writes:

When President Bush announced his new foreign policy would help build a New World Order, his phrasing surged through the Christian and secular hard right like an electric shock, since the phrase had been used to represent the dreaded collectivist One World Government for decades. Some Christians saw Bush as signaling the End Times betrayal by a world leader. Secular anticommunists saw a bold attempt to smash US sovereignty and impose a tyrannical collectivist system run by the United Nations.

American televangelist Pat Robertson with his 1991 best-selling book The New World Order became the most prominent Christian popularizer of conspiracy theories about recent American history as a theater in which Wall Street, the Federal Reserve System, Council on Foreign Relations, Bilderberg Group, and Trilateral Commission control the flow of events from behind the scenes, nudging us constantly and covertly in the direction of world government for the Antichrist.

Observers note that the galvanization of right-wing populist conspiracy theorists, such as Linda Thompson, Mark Koernke and Robert K. Spear, into militancy led to the rise of the anti-government militia movement, and their use of viral propaganda on the Internet contributed to their extremist political ideas about the New World Order finding their way into the far left literature of some black nationalists, but also the previously apolitical literature of many Kennedy assassinologists, ufologists, lost land theorists, and, most recently, occultists. The wide appeal of these subcultures then transmitted New World Order conspiracism like a mind virus to a large new audience of seekers of counterknowledge from the mid-1990s on.

After the turn of the century, specifically during the global financial crisis of 20082009, many politicians and pundits, such as Gordon Brown, Henry Kissinger, and Barack Obama, used the term new world order in their advocacy for a Keynesian reform of the global financial system and their calls for a New Bretton Woods.[ These declarations had the unintended consequence of providing fresh fodder for New World Order conspiracy theorists, and culminated in former Clinton administration adviser Dick Morris and conservative talk show host Sean Hannity arguing on one of his Fox News Channel programs that conspiracy theorists were right. Fox News has been repeatedly criticized by progressive media watchdog groups for not only mainstreaming the conspiracist rhetoric of the radical right but possibly agitating its lone wolves into action.

Conspiracy theories

Freemasonry

Anti-Masonic conspiracy theorists believe that high-ranking Freemasons are involved in conspiracies to create an occult New World Order. They claim that some of the Founding Fathers of the United States, such as George Washington and Benjamin Franklin, had Masonic symbolism and sacred geometry interwoven into American society, particularly in the Great Seal of the United States, the United States one-dollar bill, the architecture of National Mall landmarks, and the streets and highways of Washington, D.C.. They speculate that Freemasons did this in order to mystically bind their planning of a government in conformity with the luciferian plan of the Great Architect of the Universe whom, they are said to believe, has tasked the United States with the eventual establishment of an hermetic "Kingdom of God on Earth" and the building of the Third Temple in New Jerusalem as its holiest site.

Freemasons rebut these claims of Masonic conspiracy. They assert that Freemasonry, which promotes natural theology through esotericism, places no power in occult symbols themselves. It is not a part of Freemasonry to view the drawing of symbols, no matter how large, as an act of consolidating or controlling power. Furthermore, there is no published information establishing the Masonic membership of the men responsible for the design of the Great Seal or the street plan of Washington, D.C. The Latin phrase "novus ordo seclorum", appearing on the reverse side of the Great Seal since 1782 and on the back of the one-dollar bill since 1935, means "New Order of the Ages" and only alludes to the beginning of an era where the United States is an independent nation-state, but is often improperly translated by conspiracy theorists as "New World Order" or "New Secular Order".[25] Lastly, Freemasons argue that, despite the symbolic importance of the Temple of Solomon in their mythology, they have no interest in rebuilding it, especially since it is obvious that any attempt to interfere with the present condition of things [on the Temple Mount] would in all probability bring about the greatest religious war the world has ever known.

More broadly, Freemasons assert that a long-standing rule within regular Freemasonry is a prohibition on the discussion of politics in a Masonic Lodge and the participation of lodges or Masonic bodies in political pursuits. Freemasonry has no politics, but it teaches its members to be of high moral character and active citizens. The accusation that Freemasonry has a hidden agenda to establish a Masonic government ignores several facts. While agreeing on certain Masonic Landmarks, the many independent and sovereign Grand Lodges act as such, and do not agree on many other points of belief and practice.

Also, as can be seen from a survey of famous Freemasons, individual Freemasons hold beliefs that span the spectrum of politics. The term Masonic government has no meaning since individual Freemasons hold many different opinions on what constitutes a good government, and Freemasonry as a body has no opinion on the topic. Ultimately, Freemasons argue that even if it were proven that influential individuals have used and are using Masonic Lodges to engage in crypto-politics, such as was the case with the illegal Italian Lodge Propaganda Due, this would represent a cooptation of Freemasonry rather than evidence of its hidden agenda.

Illuminati

The Order of the Illuminati was an Enlightenment-age secret society founded on 1 May 1776, in Ingolstadt (Upper Bavaria), by Adam Weishaupt, who was the first lay professor of canon law at the University of Ingolstadt. The movement consisted of freethinkers, secularists, liberals, republicans and pro-feminists, recruited in the Masonic Lodges of Germany, who sought to promote perfectionism through mystery schools. In 1785, the order was infiltrated, broken and suppressed by the Bavarian government for allegedly plotting to overthrow all the monarchies and state religions of Europe.

In the late 18th century, reactionary conspiracy theorists, such as Scottish physicist John Robison and French Jesuit priest Augustin Barruel, began speculating that the Illuminati survived their suppression and became the masterminds behind the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror. The Illuminati were accused of being enlightened absolutists who were attempting to secretly orchestrate a world revolution in order to globalize the most radical ideals of the Enlightenment: anti-clericalism, anti-monarchism, and anti-patriarchalism. During the 19th century, fear of an Illuminati conspiracy was a real concern of European ruling classes, and their oppressive reactions to this unfounded fear provoked in 1848 the very revolutions they sought to prevent.

During the interwar period of the 20th century, fascist propagandists, such as British revisionist historian Nesta Helen Webster and American socialite Edith Starr Miller, not only popularized the myth of an Illuminati conspiracy but claimed that it was a subversive secret society which serves the Jewish elites that supposedly propped up both finance capitalism and Soviet communism in order to divide and rule the world. American evangelist Gerald Burton Winrod and other conspiracy theorists within the Christian fundamentalist movement in the United States, which emerged in the early 20th century as a backlash against the principles of the Enlightenment, modernism, and liberalism, became the main channel of dissemination of Illuminati conspiracy theories in America. Right-wing populists subsequently began speculating that some collegiate fraternities, gentlemens clubs and think tanks of the American upper class are front organizations of the Illuminati, which they accuse of plotting to create a New World Order through a one-world government.

Protocols of the Elders of Zion

The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is an antisemitic canard, published in 1903, but first translated into English in 1919 or 1920, alleging a Judaeo-Masonic conspiracy to achieve world domination. It propagandized the idea that a cabal of Jewish masterminds, which has coopted Freemasonry, is plotting to rule the world on behalf of all Jews because they believe themselves to be the chosen people of God. The Protocols has been proven by scholars, such as Irish journalist Philip Graves in a 1921 The Times article, and British academic Norman Cohn in his 1967 book Warrant for Genocide, to be both a hoax and a clear case of plagiarism. There is general agreement that the Okhrana, the secret police of the Russian Empire, fabricated the text in the late 1890s or early 1900s by plagiarizing it, almost word for word in some passages, from The Dialogue in Hell Between Machiavelli and Montesquieu, a 19th century satire against Napoleon III of France originally written by Maurice Joly, a French lawyer and Legitimist militant.

Partly responsible for feeding many antisemitic and anti-Masonic hysterias of the 20th century, The Protocols is widely considered to be influential in the development of conspiracy theories related to a New World Order (such as the notion of a Zionist Occupation Government), and reappears repeatedly in contemporary conspiracy literature. For example, the authors of the 1982 controversial book The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail concluded that The Protocols was the most persuasive piece of evidence for the existence and activities of the Priory of Sion. They speculated that this secret society was working behind the scenes to establish a theocratic United States of Europe (politically and religiously unified through the imperial cult of a Merovingian sacred king from the Jesus bloodline, who occupies both the throne of Europe and the Holy See) which would become the hyperpower of the 21st century. Although the Priory of Sion, itself, has been exhaustively debunked by journalists and scholars as a hoax, fringe Christian eschatologists concerned with the emergence of a New World Order became convinced that the Priory of Sion was a fulfillment of prophecies found in the Book of Revelation and further proof of an anti-Christian conspiracy of epic proportions.

Skeptics argue that the current gambit of contemporary conspiracy theorists who use the The Protocols is to claim that they really come from some group other than the Jews such as the Illuminati or alien invaders. Although it is hard to determine whether the conspiracy-minded actually believe this or are simply trying to sanitize a discredited text, skeptics argue that it doesnt make much difference, since they leave the actual, antisemitic text unchanged. The result is to give The Protocols credibility and circulation when it deserves neither.

Round Table

British businessman Cecil Rhodes advocated the British Empire reannexing the United States of America and reforming itself into an Imperial Federation to bring about a hyperpower and lasting world peace. In his first will, of 1877, written at the age of 23, he expressed his wish to fund a secret society (known as the Society of the Elect) that would advance this goal:

To and for the establishment, promotion and development of a Secret Society, the true aim and object whereof shall be for the extension of British rule throughout the world, the perfecting of a system of emigration from the United Kingdom, and of colonisation by British subjects of all lands where the means of livelihood are attainable by energy, labour and enterprise, and especially the occupation by British settlers of the entire Continent of Africa, the Holy Land, the Valley of the Euphrates, the Islands of Cyprus and Candia, the whole of South America, the Islands of the Pacific not heretofore possessed by Great Britain, the whole of the Malay Archipelago, the seaboard of China and Japan, the ultimate recovery of the United States of America as an integral part of the British Empire, the inauguration of a system of Colonial representation in the Imperial Parliament which may tend to weld together the disjointed members of the Empire and, finally, the foundation of so great a Power as to render wars impossible, and promote the best interests of humanity.

In his later wills, a more mature Rhodes abandoned the idea and instead concentrated on what became the Rhodes Scholarship, which had British statesman Alfred Milner as one of its trustees. Established in 1902, the original goal of the trust fund was to foster peace among the great powers by creating a sense of fraternity and a shared world view among future British, American, and German leaders by having enabled them to study for free at the University of Oxford.

Milner and British official Lionel George Curtis were the architects of the Round Table movement, a network of organizations promoting closer union between Britain and its self-governing colonies. To this end, Curtis founded the Royal Institute of International Affairs in June 1919 and wrote the 1938 book The Commonwealth of God in which he advocated the creation of an imperial federation, that eventually reannexes the U.S., which would be presented to Protestant churches as being the work of the Christian God to elicit their support. The Commonwealth of Nations was created in 1949 but it would only be a free association of independent states rather than the powerful imperial federation imagined by Rhodes, Milner and Curtis.

The Council on Foreign Relations began in 1917 with a group of New York academics who were asked by President Woodrow Wilson to offer options for the foreign policy of the United States in the interwar period. Originally envisioned as a British-American group of scholars and diplomats, some of whom belonging to the Round Table movement, it was a subsequent group of 108 New York financiers, manufacturers and international lawyers organized in June 1918 by Nobel Peace Prize recipient and U.S. secretary of state, Elihu Root, that became the Council on Foreign Relations on 29 July 1921. The first of the councils projects was a quarterly journal launched in September 1922, called Foreign Affairs.

Conspiracy theorists believe that the Council on Foreign Relations is a front organization for the Round Table as a tool of the Anglo-American Establishment, which they believe has been plotting from 1900 on to rule the world. The research findings of historian Carroll Quigley, author of the 1966 book Tragedy and Hope, are taken by both conspiracy theorists of the American Old Right (Cleon Skousen) and New Left (Carl Oglesby) to substantiate this view, even though he argued that the Establishment is not involved in a plot to implement a one-world government but rather British and American benevolent imperialism driven by the mutual interests of economic elites in the United Kingdom and the United States. Quigley also argued that, although the Round Table still exists today, its position in influencing the policies of world leaders has been much reduced from its heyday during World War I and slowly waned after the end of World War II and the Suez Crisis. Today it is largely a ginger group, designed to consider and gradually influence the policies of the Commonwealth of Nations, but faces strong opposition. Furthermore, in American society after 1965, the problem, according to Quigley, was that no elite was in charge and acting responsibly.

American banker David Rockefeller joined the Council on Foreign Relations as its youngest-ever director in 1949 and subsequently became chairman of the board from 1970 to 1985; today he serves as honorary chairman. In 2002, Rockefeller authored his autobiography Memoirs wherein, on page 405, he wrote:

For more than a century ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as internationalists and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure one world, if you will. If thats the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.

Although this statement should be interpreted as being partially sarcastic, it is taken at face value and widely cited by conspiracy theorists as proof that the Council on Foreign Relations (itself alleged to be a front for an international banking cabal, as well as, it is claimed, the sponsor of many globalist think tanks such as the Trilateral Commission) uses its role as the brain trust of American presidents, senators and representatives to manipulate them into supporting a New World Order. Conspiracy theorists fear that the international bankers of financial capitalism are planning to eventually subvert the independence of the U.S. by subordinating national sovereignty to a strengthened Bank for International Settlements with the intent to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole.

Some American social critics, such as Laurence H. Shoup, argue that the Council on Foreign Relations is an imperial brain trust, which has, for decades, played a central behind-the-scenes role in shaping U.S. foreign policy choices for the post-WWII international order and the Cold War, by determining what options show up on the agenda and what options do not even make it to the table;[40] while others, such as G. William Domhoff, argue that it is in fact a mere policy discussion forum, which provides the business input to U.S. foreign policy planning. The latter argue that it has nearly 3,000 members, far too many for secret plans to be kept within the group; all the council does is sponsor discussion groups, debates and speakers; and as far as being secretive, it issues annual reports and allows access to its historical archives. However, all these critics agree that historical studies of the council show that it has a very different role in the overall power structure than what is claimed by conspiracy theorists.

Open Conspiracy

In his 1928 book The Open Conspiracy British writer H. G. Wells called for the intelligentsia of all nation-states to organize for the establishment of a global federation of strengthened and democratized global institutions, with plenary constitutional power accountable to global citizens and a division of international authority among separate global agencies, in order to build a world social democracy.

Wells warned, however, in his 1940 book The New World Order that:

... when the struggle seems to be drifting definitely towards a world social democracy, there may still be very great delays and disappointments before it becomes an efficient and beneficent world system. Countless people ... will hate the new world order ... and will die protesting against it. When we attempt to evaluate its promise, we [must] bear in mind the distress of a generation or so of malcontents, many of them quite gallant and graceful-looking people.

Wells book was extremely influential in associating the notion of a socialist world state and government with the term New World Order in the minds of both supporters and opponents for generations to come. But the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 led to a period of triumphalism by capitalists world wide, the elimination of the only obstacle to the spread of a neoliberal form of globalization, and a shattering of the confidence of those who hoped that a proletarian revolution would return the Soviet Union (which had become a degenerated workers state) to socialism and transform it into one of the building blocks of the new world order envisioned by Wells. Right-wing conspiracy theorists, however, simply changed their focus from the Soviet Union to the United Nations as the bureaucratic collectivist menace.

New Age

British neo-Theosophical occultist Alice Bailey, one of the founders of the so-called New Age movement, prophesied in 1940 the eventual victory of the Allies of World War II over the Axis powers (which occurred in 1945) and the establishment by the Allies of a political and religious New World Order. She saw a federal world government as the culmination of Wells Open Conspiracy but argued that it would be synarchist because it was guided by ascended masters, intent on preparing humanity for the mystical second coming of Christ, and the dawn of the Age of Aquarius. According to Bailey, a group of ascended masters called the Great White Brotherhood works on the inner planes to oversee the transition to the New World Order but, for now, the members of this Spiritual Hierarchy are only known to a few occult scientists, with whom they communicate telepathically, but as the need for their personal involvement in the plan increases, there will be an Externalization of the Hierarchy and everyone will know of their presence on Earth.

In 1997, Hasidic rabbi Yonassan Gershom, in an article titled Anti-Semitic Stereotypes in Alice Baileys Writings, pointed out that Baileys Plan for the New World Order, marked by extravagant fantasy, called for the gradual dissolution again if in any way possible of the Orthodox Jewish faith, which, he said, indicated that her goal is nothing less than the destruction of Judaism itself. This fact is notable since many conspiracy theories tend to portray Jews as the plotters behind the New World Order rather than one of the groups the plotters want to repress in order to create it.

Baileys writings, along with American writer Marilyn Fergusons 1980 book The Aquarian Conspiracy, contributed to conspiracy theorists of the Christian right viewing the New Age movement as the false religion that would supersede Christianity in a New World Order.[46] Some conspiracy theorists have adopted 21 December 2012 as the exact date for the establishment of the New World Order because of the growing 2012 phenomenon, which has its origins in the fringe Mayanist theories of New Age writers Jos Argelles, Terence McKenna, and Daniel Pinchbeck.

Skeptics argue that the term New Age movement is a misnomer, generally used by conspiracy theorists as a catch-all rubric for any new religious, spiritual or philosophical belief, symbol and practice that is not fundamentalist Christian. By their lights, anything that is not Christian is by definition actively and willfully anti-Christian. The implication is that these independent and sometimes contradictory schools of thought are all part of a monolithic whole. This is logically and empirically false, and rationally simplistic.

End Time

Millenarian Christian theologians and laymen, such as American televangelist Pat Robertson with his 1991 book The New World Order, see a globalist conspiracy as the fulfillment of prophecies about the end time in the Bible, specifically in the Book of Ezekiel, the Book of Daniel, the Olivet discourse found in the Synoptic Gospels, and the Book of Revelation. They assert that human and demonic agents of the Devil are involved in a primordial conspiracy to deceive humanity into accepting a satanic world theocracy that has the Unholy Trinity Satan, the Antichrist and the False Prophet at the core of an imperial cult. In many theories, the False Prophet will either be the last pope of the Catholic Church (groomed and installed by an Alta Vendita or Jesuit conspiracy) or a charismatic leader in the New Age movement, while the Antichrist will either be the president of the European Union or the secretary-general of the United Nations or even a virtual actor serving as the figurehead for a supercomputer.

Preterist Christian skeptics of the end-time conspiracism argue that some or all of the biblical prophecies concerning the end time refer literally or metaphorically to events which already happened in the first century after Jesus birth. In their view, the end time concept refers to the end of the covenant between God and Israel, rather than the end of time, or the end of planet Earth. They argue that prophecies about the Rapture, the defiling of the Temple, the destruction of Jerusalem, the Antichrist, the Number of the Beast, the Tribulation, the Second Coming, and the Last Judgment were fulfilled at or about the year 70 when the Roman general (and future Emperor) Titus sacked Jerusalem and destroyed the Second Temple in Jerusalem, putting a permanent stop to the daily animal sacrifices.

According to such skeptics, many passages in the New Testament indicate with apparent certainty that the second coming of Christ, and the end time predicted in the Bible were to take place within the lifetimes of Jesus disciples rather than millennia later: Matt. 10:23, Matt. 16:28, Matt. 24:34, Matt. 26:64, Rom. 13:11-12, 1 Cor. 7:29-31, 1 Cor. 10:11, Phil. 4:5, James 5:8-9, 1 Pet. 4:7, 1 Jn. 2:18.[48]

Fourth Reich

Anti-Nazi conspiracy theorists, such as American writer Jim Marrs, argue that some ex-Nazis, who were surviving members of Germanys Third Reich, along with sympathizers in the United States and elsewhere, given safe haven by organizations like ODESSA and Die Spinne, have been working behind the scenes since the end of World War II to enact at least some of the principles of Nazism (e.g. military-industrial complex, imperialism, widespread spying on citizens, use of corporations and propaganda to control national interests and ideas) into culture, government, and business worldwide, but primarily in the U.S. They cite the influence of ex-Nazi scientists brought in under Operation Paperclip to help advance aerospace manufacturing in the U.S., and the acquisition and creation of conglomerates by ex-Nazis and their sympathizers after the war, in both Europe and the U.S.

This neo-Nazi conspiracy is said to be animated by an Iron Dream in which the U.S. gradually establishes the Fourth Reich, known as the Western Imperium, a pan-Aryan New World Order modeled after Adolf Hitlers New Order, to ensure the West wins the hypothetical Clash of Civilizations.

Skeptics argue that conspiracy theorists grossly overestimate the influence of ex-Nazis and neo-Nazis on American society, and point out that American imperialism, corporatocracy and political repression have a long history that predates World War II. Some political scientists, such as Sheldon Wolin, have expressed concern that the twin forces of democratic deficit and superpower status have paved the way in the U.S. for the emergence of an inverted totalitarianism which contradicts many principles of Nazism.

Alien Invasion

Since the late 1970s, extraterrestrials from other habitable planets or parallel dimensions (such as Greys) and intraterrestrials from Hollow Earth (such as Reptilians) have been included in the New World Order conspiracy, in more or less dominant roles, as in the theories put forward by American writers Stan Deyo and Milton William Cooper, and British writer David Icke.

The common theme in such conspiracy theories is that aliens have been among us for decades, centuries or millennia, but a government cover-up has protected the public from knowledge of ancient astronauts and an alien invasion. Motivated by speciesism, these aliens have been and are secretly manipulating developments and changes in human society in order to more efficiently control and exploit it. In some theories, alien infiltrators have taken human form and move freely throughout human society, even to the point of taking control of command positions in governmental, corporate, and religious institutions, and are now in the final stages of their plan to take over the world. A mythical covert government agency of the United States code-named Majestic 12 is often cited by conspiracy theorists as being the shadow government which collaborates with the alien occupation, in exchange for assistance in the development and testing of military flying saucers at Area 51, in order for U.S. armed forces to achieve full-spectrum dominance.

Skeptics, who adhere to the psychosocial hypothesis for unidentified flying objects, argue that the convergence of New World Order conspiracy theory and UFO conspiracy theory is a product of not only the eras widespread mistrust of governments and the popularity of the extraterrestrial hypothesis for UFOs but of the far right and ufologists actually joining forces. Barkun notes that the only positive side to this development is that, if conspirators plotting to rule the world are believed to be aliens, traditional human scapegoats are exonerated.

Brave New World

Antiscience and neo-Luddite conspiracy theorists emphasize technology forecasting in their New World Order conpiracy theories. They speculate that the global power elite are modern Luciferians pursuing a transhumanist agenda to develop and use human enhancement technologies in order to become a posthuman ruling caste, while change accelerates toward a technological singularity a theorized future point of discontinuity when events will accelerate at such a pace that normal unenhanced humans will be unable to predict or even understand the rapid changes occurring in the world around them. Conspiracy theorists fear the outcome will either be the emergence of a Brave New World-like dystopia a Brave New World Order or the extinction of the human species.

Advocates of transhumanism and singularitarianism, such as American sociologist James Hughes, counter that many influential members of the American Establishment are bioconservative and therefore anti-transhumanist as demonstrated by President Bushs Council on Bioethicss proposed international treaty prohibiting human cloning and germline engineering. Regardless, transhumanists and singularitarians claim to only support developing and making publicly available technologies to eliminate aging and to greatly enhance human intellectual, physical, and psychological capacities for the common good; as well as taking deliberate action to ensure that the Singularity the moment when technological progress starts being driven by superintelligence occurs in a way that is beneficial to humankind.

Just as there are several overlapping or conflicting theories among conspiracists about the nature of the New World Order, so are there several beliefs about how its architects and planners will implement it:

Gradualism

Conspiracy theorists generally speculate that the New World Order is being implemented gradually, citing the formation of the U.S. Federal Reserve System in 1913; the International Monetary Fund in 1944; the United Nations in 1945; the World Bank in 1945; the World Health Organization in 1948; the European Union and the euro currency in 1993; the World Trade Organization in 1998; and the African Union in 2002 as major milestones.

An increasingly popular conspiracy theory among American paleoconservatives is that the hypothetical North American Union and the amero currency, proposed by the Council on Foreign Relations and its counterparts in Mexico and Canada, will be the next implementation of the New World Order. The theory holds that a group of shadowy and mostly nameless international elites are planning to replace the federal government of the United States with a transnational government. Therefore, conspiracy theorists believe the borders between Mexico, Canada and the United States are in the process of being erased, covertly, by a group of globalists whose ultimate goal is to replace national governments in Washington, D.C., Ottawa and Mexico City with a European-style political union and a bloated E.U.-style bureaucracy.

Skeptics argue that the North American Union exists only as a proposal contained in one of a thousand academic and/or policy papers published each year that advocate all manner of idealistic but ultimately unrealistic approaches to social, economic and political problems. Most of these get passed around in their own circles and eventually filed away and forgotten by junior staffers in congressional offices. Some of these papers, however, become touchstones for the conspiracy-minded and form the basis of all kinds of unfounded xenophobic fears especially during times of economic anxiety.

In March 2009, as a result of the global financial crisis of 20082009, the Peoples Republic of China and the Russian Federation have pressed for urgent consideration of a super-sovereign reserve currency and a U.N. panel has proposed greatly expanding the I.M.F.s Special Drawing Rights. Conspiracy theorists have misinterpreted the proposal as vindication of their beliefs about a global currency for the New World Order.

Judging that both national governments and global institutions have proven ineffective in addressing worldwide problems that go beyond the capacity of individual nation-states to solve, some political scientists, such as Mark C. Partrige, argue that regionalism will be the major force in the coming decades, pockets of power around regional centers: Western Europe around Brussels, the Western Hemisphere around Washington, D.C., East Asia around Beijing, and Eastern Europe around Moscow. As such, the E.U., the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and the G-20 will likely become more influential as time progresses. The question then is not whether global governance is gradually emerging, but rather how will these regional powers interact with one another.

Coup dtat and martial law

American right-wing conspiracy theorists, especially those who joined the militia movement in the United States, speculate that the New World Order will be implemented by martial law after a dramatic coup dtat by a secret team, using black helicopters, in the U.S. and other nation-states to bring about a world government controlled by the United Nations and enforced by troops of foreign U.N. peacekeepers.

Before year 2000 some survivalists wrongly believed this process would be set in motion by the predicted Y2K problem causing societal collapse. Since many conspiracy theorists believe that the September 11 attacks were a false flag operation carried out by the United States intelligence community, as part of a strategy of tension to justify political repression at home and preemptive war abroad, some of them have become convinced that a more catastrophic terrorist incident will be responsible for triggering the process completing the transition to a police state.

These conspiracy theorists, who are all strong believers in a right to keep and bear arms, are extremely fearful that the passing of any gun control legislation will be later followed by the abolishment of personal gun ownership, and that the refugee camps of emergency management agencies such as F.E.M.A. will be used for the internment of suspected subversives, making little effort to distinguish true threats to the New World Order from ideological dissidents.

Skeptics argue that unfounded fears about an imminent or eventual gun ban, military coup, internment, or U.N. invasion and occupation are rooted in an extremist form of constitutionalism but also an apocalyptic millennialism which provides a basic narrative within the American political right, claiming that the idealized society (i.e. Christian nation, constitutional republic of sovereign citizens) is thwarted by subversive conspiracies of liberal secular humanists who want Big Government and globalists who plot on behalf of the New World Order.

Mass surveillance

Conspiracy theorists concerned about surveillance abuse believe that the New World Order is being implemented by the cult of intelligence at the core of the surveillance-industrial complex through mass surveillance and the use of Social Security numbers, the bar-coding of retail goods with Universal Product Code markings, and, most recently, R.F.I.D. tagging via microchip implants.

Original seal of the now defunct DARPA Information Awareness Office. Some consumer privacy advocates, such as Katherine Albrecht and Liz McIntyre, who warn of how corporations and government supposedly plan to track every move of consumers and citizens with R.F.I.D. is the latest step toward a 1984-like surveillance state, have become Christian conspiracy theorists who associate spychips with the Number of the Beast mentioned in the Book of Revelation.

Boston University professor Richard Landes, who specializes in the history of apocalypticism and was co-founder and director of the Center for Millennial Studies at B.U., argues that new and emerging technologies often trigger alarmism among millenarians and even the introduction of Gutenbergs printing press in 1436 caused waves of apocalyptic thinking. The Y2K problem, bar codes and Social Security numbers all triggered end-time warnings which either proved to be false or simply were no longer taken seriously once the public became accustomed to these technologies. Skeptics argue that the privatization of surveillance and the rise of the surveillance-industrial complex in the United States does raise legitimate concerns about the erosion of privacy, but such concerns should be disentagled from secular paranoia about Big Brother or religious hysteria about the Antichrist.

The Information Awareness Office (IAO) was established by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in January 2002 to bring together several DARPA projects focused on applying information technology to counter asymmetric threats to national security. Following public criticism that the development and deployment of these technologies could potentially lead to a mass surveillance system, the IAO was defunded by the United States Congress in 2003.[65][66] The second source of controversy involved IAOs original logo, which depicted the all-seeing Eye of Providence atop of a pyramid looking down over the globe, accompanied by the Latin phrase scientia est potentia (knowledge is power). Although DARPA eventually removed the logo from its website, it left a lasting impression on privacy advocates. It also inflamed conspiracy theorists, who misinterpret the eye and pyramid as the Masonic symbol of the Illuminati, an 18th-century secret society they speculate continues to exist and is plotting on behalf of a New World Order.

Occultism

Conspiracy theorists of the Christian right believe there is an occult conspiracy, started by the first mystagogues of Gnosticism and perpetuated by their alleged esoteric successors, such as the Kabbalists, Cathars, Knights Templar, Rosicrucians, Freemasons, and, ultimately, the Illuminati, which seeks to subvert the Judeo-Christian foundations of the Western world and implement the New World Order through a New Age one-world religion that prepares the world to embrace the imperial cult of the Antichrist. More broadly, they speculate that conspirators who plot on behalf of a New World Order are directed by occult agencies of some sort: unknown superiors, spiritual hierarchies, demons, fallen angels or Lucifer. They believe that, like Nazi occultists, these conspirators use the power of occult sciences (numerology), symbols (Eye of Providence), rituals (Masonic degrees), monuments (National Mall), buildings (Manitoba Legislative Building and facilities (Denver International Airport) to advance their plot to rule the world.

For example, in June 1979, an unknown benefactor under the pseudonym R. C. Christian had a huge granite megalith built in the U.S. state of Georgia, which acts like a compass, calendar, and clock. A message comprising ten guides is inscribed on the occult structure in many languages to serve as instructions for survivors of a doomsday event to establish a more enlightened and sustainable civilization than the one which was destroyed. The Georgia Guidestones have subsequently become a spiritual and political Rorschach test onto which any number of ideas can be imposed. Some New Agers and neo-pagans revere it as a ley-line power nexus while a few conspiracy theorists are convinced that they are engraved with the New World Orders anti-Christian Ten Commandments. Should the Guidestones survive for centuries as their creators intended, many more meanings could arise, equally unrelated to the designers original intention.

Skeptics argue that the demonization of Western occultism by conspiracy theorists is rooted in religious intolerance but also in the same moral panics that have fueled witch trials in Early Modern Europe, and satanic ritual abuse allegations in the United States.

Population control

Conspiracy theorists believe that the New World Order will also be implemented through the use of population control in order to more easily monitor and control the movement of individuals. The means range from stopping the growth of human societies through reproductive health and family planning programs, which condone abortion and liberal eugenics, or intentionally reducing the bulk of the worlds population through genocide by fomenting unnecessary wars, mass sterilization by tainting vaccines, and environmental terrorism-caused disasters by controlling the weather (HAARP, chemtrails), etc. The Codex Alimentarius, a collection of internationally recognized standards, codes of practice, guidelines and other recommendations relating to foods, food production and food safety, has also become the subject of conspiracy theories about population control.

Skeptics argue that fears of totalitarian population control can be traced back to the Red Scare in the United States during the late 1940s and 1950s, and to a lesser extent in the 1960s, when activists on the far right of American politics routinely opposed public health programs, notably water fluoridation, mass vaccination and mental health services, by asserting they were all part of a far-reaching plot to impose a socialist or communist regime. Their views were influenced by opposition to a number of major social and political changes that had happened in recent years: the growth of internationalism, particularly the United Nations and its programs; the introduction of social welfare provisions, particularly the various programs established by the New Deal; and government efforts to reduce perceived inequalities in the social structure of the United States.

Mind control

Conspiracy theorists accuse governments, corporations, and the mass media of being involved in the manufacturing of a national consensus and, paradoxically, a culture of fear due to the potential for increased social control that a mistrustful and mutually fearing population might offer to those in power. The worst fear of some conspiracy theorists is that conspirators are using mind control a broad range of tactics able to subvert an individuals control of his or her own thinking, behavior, emotions, or decisions to implement the New World Order. These tactics are said to include everything from Manchurian candidate-style brainwashing of sleeper agents (Project MKULTRA, Project Monarch) to engineering psychological operations (water fluoridation, subliminal advertising, Silent Sound Spread Spectrum, MEDUSA) and parapsychological operations (Stargate Project) to influence the masses. The concept of wearing a tin foil hat for protection from such threats has become a popular stereotype and term of derision; the phrase serves as a byword for paranoia and is associated with conspiracy theorists.

Skeptics argue that the paranoia behind a conspiracy theorists obsession with mind control, population control, occultism, surveillance abuse, Big Business, Big Government, and globalization arises from a combination of two factors, when he or she: 1) holds strong individualist values and 2) lacks power. The first attribute refers to people who care deeply about an individuals right to make their own choices and direct their own lives without interference or obligations to a larger system (like the government). But combine this with a sense of powerlessness in ones own life, and one gets what some psychologists call agency panic, intense anxiety about an apparent loss of autonomy to outside forces or regulators. When fervent individualists feel that they cannot exercise their independence, they experience a crisis and assume that larger forces are to blame for usurping this freedom.

Edit Storyline

Nicolas is a boy living on a remote island set in the future, or another planet - or is it a dream? His village consists of white-painted houses located above the sea with a volcanic rock and black sand coastline, populated by young women and boys all of a similar age to Nicolas. Whilst swimming, Nicolas makes a discovery in the ocean, which is shrugged off by his mother, who, like all the women in the town has tied-back hair, is pale and wears a simple thin beige dress. Nicolas is curious, thinks that he is being lied to and starts to explore his environment, witnessing some unsettling scenes. He then finds himself taken to a hospital-like building where he, along with the others, undergoes a series of medical procedures by the women, dressed as nurses. He is befriended by one nurse, who becomes instrumental in the film's denouement. The film is not easy to categorise; it is not only enigmatic but beautifully filmed with deeply poetic imagery. It reflects the fear of the unknown, ...

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) - IMDb

3 Top Artificial Intelligence Stocks to Watch in April …

"Artificial intelligence" might sound like an overused buzzword to many people. But astute investors know AI is already positively changing the way companies all over the world do business.

With that in mind, we asked three top Motley Fool contributors to each discuss an artificial intelligence stock you should be watching closely this month. Read on to see why they chose Facebook (NASDAQ:FB), Visa (NYSE:V), and Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL).

Steve Symington (Facebook): Facebook is set to release first-quarter 2019 results next Wednesday, April 24, 2019, and what's contained in the report will help set the tone for both the online advertising and broader tech industries. Shares of the social media juggernaut are already up 36% so far in 2018 -- albeit after plunging 26% last year as it traversed a difficult combination of data-privacy scandals, the spread of misinformation on its platforms, and concerns over decelerating top-line growth as Facebook builds on a larger base. With the help of AI, Facebook is striving to address those concerns.

That said, Facebook management did offer some color on what to expect during the January conference call, namely that first-quarter revenue growth should decelerate by a mid-single-digit-percent range (from 30% in Q4 2018). To that end -- and though we don't usually pay close attention to Wall Street's demands -- most analysts see the company delivering earnings of $1.63 per share on a 25.1% increase in revenue, to $14.97 billion.

Just as important will be the trends underlying that growth. Last quarter, the company saw daily and monthly active users each climb 9%, to 1.52 billion and 2.32 billion, respectively, and roughly 2.7 billion people hopped on at least one of its platforms -- including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger -- every month. If Facebook is seeing success with its recent efforts to combat last year's problems and win back the trust of the public, we should hope to see its number of users continue to steadily climb.

Anders Bylund (Visa): Payment-processing veteran Visa may not be the first company that springs to mind in a discussion about artificial intelligence, but maybe it should. Take this snippet from a management presentation at a recent industry conference:

"The services that we offer that are extremely high value-added and in many ways have economics that are very similar to our core business and very much leverage of core business or things like risks services, fraud management and all that, authentication services, data analytics where we continue to add to our capabilities with AI," said CFO Vasant Prabhu, according to a transcript compiled by Seeking Alpha. "We've always been doing machine learning, especially on fraud."

Yep, you can thank artificial intelligence for the fraud warnings that drop in whenever your card issuer finds suspicious activity in your credit card accounts. Visa and its peers have actually been on the bleeding edge of AI tools in practical use for many years. These antifraud processes should continue improving over time as Visa takes advantage of more advanced technologies, ranging from neural networks to blockchain transactions.

Visa is gearing up for a second-quarter earnings report next Wednesday. AI probably won't be a big talking point in that presentation, but you can rest assured that Visa takes advantage of the technology in a big way and will only continue to deepen its machine learning roots.

Chris Neiger (Alphabet): Alphabet makes the bulk of its revenue by selling ads across its various Google services platforms, but the company is also an artificial intelligence powerhouse, and it's making considerable investments in AI now -- so it can benefit later.

Take, for example, Alphabet's self-driving vehicle company Waymo. The company has logged more than 10 million miles of autonomous driving, and at the end of 2018, Waymo launched one of the first commercial self-driving car services in the country. Without AI, Waymo's vehicles wouldn't be able to navigate traffic, avoid pedestrians, or learn from past driving experiences. The company stands to benefit from this AI pursuit by licensing some of its tech to other companies and selling its own services, all of which could help Waymo generate nearly $100 billion in sales over the next decade.

Autonomous vehicles aren't Alphabet's only AI bet though. Alphabet also owns DeepMind, an artificial-intelligence tech company that's already proving itself invaluable. Just last month, DeepMind used some of its machine learning algorithms to predict when some of Google's wind farms would produce the most wind, thereby generating the most energy, and scheduled some of the energy to be sent back to the electric grid. Why is this important? Because AI-powered tools like this are poised to help add $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030 by creating new services and making existing ones more efficient. Imagine the same tech being used not just for Google's wind farms but in power grids across the country.

With Alphabet already knee deep in developing the AI tools and services that will make our lives more efficient, investors should consider snatching up shares of this tech giant now.

In today's fast-changing technology world, we certainly can't guarantee that any given stock will go on to deliver outsized returns and beat the market in the process. But with the help of AI, it appears Facebook, Visa, and Alphabet could be poised to do exactly that. And we think at the very least, investors would do well to add these stocks to their watch lists this month.

What is Virtual Reality? VR Definition and Examples | Marxent

See some real examples ofVirtual Reality shopping apps; or fora look ahead, check out the5 top Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality technology trends for 2019.

Virtual Reality (VR) is the use of computer technology to create a simulated environment. Unlike traditional user interfaces, VR places the user inside an experience. Instead of viewing a screen in front of them, users are immersedand able to interact with3D worlds. By simulating as many senses as possible, such as vision, hearing, touch, evensmell, the computer is transformed into agatekeeper to thisartificial world. The only limits to near-real VR experiences are the availability of content and cheapcomputing power.

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are two sides of the same coin. You could think of Augmented Reality as VR with one foot in the real world: Augmented Reality simulates artificial objects in the real environment; Virtual Reality creates an artificial environment to inhabit.

In Augmented Reality, the computer uses sensors and algorithms to determine the position and orientation of a camera. AR technology then renders the 3D graphics as they would appear from the viewpoint of the camera, superimposing the computer-generated images over ausers view of the real world.

In Virtual Reality, the computer uses similar sensors and math. However, rather than locating a real camera within a physical environment, the position of the users eyes are located within the simulated environment. If the users head turns, the graphics react accordingly. Rather than compositing virtual objects and a real scene, VR technology creates a convincing, interactive world for the user.

Virtual Realitys most immediately-recognizable component is the head-mounted display (HMD). Human beings are visual creatures, and display technology is often the single biggest difference between immersive Virtual Reality systems and traditional user interfaces. For instance,CAVEautomatic virtual environments actively display virtual content onto room-sized screens. While they arefun for people in universities and big labs, consumer and industrial wearables are the wild west.

With a multiplicity of emerging hardware and software options, the future of wearables is unfolding but yet unknown. Concepts such as the HTC Vive Pro Eye, Oculus Quest and Playstation VR are leading the way, but there are also players like Google, Apple, Samsung, Lenovo and others who may surprise the industry with new levels of immersion and usability. Whomever comes out ahead, the simplicity of buying a helmet-sized device that can work in a living-room, office, or factory floor has made HMDs center stage when it comes to Virtual Reality technologies.

Convincing Virtual Reality applications require more than just graphics. Both hearing and vision are central to a persons sense of space. In fact, human beings react more quickly to audio cues than to visual cues. In order to create truly immersive Virtual Realityexperiences, accurate environmental soundsand spatial characteristics are a must. Theselenda powerful sense of presence toa virtual world. To experience the binaural audio details that go into a Virtual Reality experience, put on some headphones and tinkerwith this audio infographicpublished byThe Verge.

While audio-visual information is most easily replicated in Virtual Reality, active research and development efforts are still being conducted into the other senses. Tactile inputs such as omnidirectional treadmills allow users to feel as though theyre actually walking through a simulation, rather than sitting in a chair or on a couch. Haptic technologies, also known as kinesthetic ortouch feedback tech, have progressed from simple spinning-weight rumble motors to futuristic ultrasound technology. It is now possible to hear and feel true-to-life sensations along with visual VR experiences.

What is Virtual Reality (VR)? Ultimate Guide to Virtual …

Introduction to Virtual Reality (VR)

Virtual Reality (VR)literally makes it possible to experience anything, anywhere, anytime. It is the most immersive type of reality technology and can convince the human brain that it is somewhere it is really not. Head mounted displays are used with headphones and hand controllers to provide afully immersiveexperience. With the largest technology companies on planet earth (Facebook, Google, and Microsoft) currently investing billions of dollars intovirtual reality companies and startups, the future of virtual reality is set to be a pillar of our everyday lives.

A realistic three-dimensional image or artificial environment that is created with a mixture of interactive hardware and software, and presented to the user in such a way that the any doubts are suspended and it is accepted as a real environment in which it is interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way.

Virtual reality (also calledVirtual RealitiesorVR) is best understood by first defining what it aims to achieve total immersion.

Total immersion means that the sensory experience feels so real, that we forget it is a virtual-artificial environment and begin to interact with it as we would naturally in the real world. In a virtual reality environment, a completely synthetic world may or may not mimic the properties of a real-world environment. This means that the virtual reality environment may simulate an everyday setting (e.g. walking around the streets of London), or may exceed the bounds of physical reality by creating a world in which the physical laws governing gravity, time and material properties no longer hold (e.g. shooting space aliens on a foreign gravity-less planet).

Virtual reality immersionis the perception of being physically present in a non-physical world. It encompasses the sense ofpresence, which is the point where the human brain believes that is somewhere it is really not, and is accomplished through purely mental and/or physical means. The state oftotal immersionexists when enough senses are activated to create the perception of being present in a non-physical world. Two common types of immersion include:

Virtual reality requires as many of our senses as possible to be simulated. These senses include vision (visual), hearing (aural), touch (haptic), and more. Properly stimulating these sense requires sensory feedback, which is achieved through integrated hardware and software (also known as inputs). Examples of this hardware and inputs are discussed below as key components to a virtual reality system, which include head mounted displays (HMD), special gloves or hand accessories, and hand controls.

Several categories of virtual reality technologies exist, with more likely to emerge as this technology progresses. The various types of virtual reality differ in their levels of immersion and alsovirtual reality applications and use cases. Below, we explore a few of the different categories of virtual reality:

Virtual Reality NewsLatest Developments in Virtual Reality (VR) News

The field of augmented reality is continually growing with new technology advancements, software improvements, and products. Staying up to date with the latest augmented reality news is important to stay on top of this rapidly growing industry. We cover the latest inmixed reality news, augmented reality news, and virtual reality news.

In order for the human brain to accept an artificial, virtual environment as real, it has to not only look real, but also feel real. Looking real can be achieved by wearing a head-mounted display (HMD) that displays a recreated life size, 3D virtual environment without the boundaries usually seen on TV or a computer screen. Feeling real can be achieved through handheld input devices such as motion trackers that base interactivity on the users movements. By stimulating many of the same senses one would use to navigate in the real world, virtual reality environments are feeling increasingly more like the natural world. Below, we explore some of the key components to behind this system.

Virtual reality content, which is the what users view inside of a virtual reality headset, is equally important as the headset itself. In order to power these interactive three-dimensional environments, significant computing power is required. This is where PC (Personal Computer), consoles, and smartphones come in. They act as the engine to power the content being produced.

A head-mounted display (also called HMD, Headset, or Goggles) is a type of device that contains a display mounted in front of a users eyes. This display usually covers the users full field of view and displays virtual reality content. Some virtual reality head mounted displays utilize smartphone displays, including the Google Cardboard and Samsung Gear VR. Head-mounted displays are often also accompanied with a headset to provide for audio stimulation.

Inside of each virtual reality head-mounted display (HMD) is a series of sensors, individual eye displays, lenses, and display screen(s), among other various components. TheIfixit Oculus Rift teardownoffers an excellent step-by-step teardown and look inside of one of the most popular virtual reality headsets. Below we explore some of the key components inside of a virtual reality headset.

The three most common sensors in a virtual reality headset are magnetometers, accelerometers and gyroscopes. These sensors work together by measuring the users motions and direction in space. Their ultimate goal is to achieve true six-degrees-of-freedom (6DoF), which covers all the degrees of motion for an object in space.

Lenses lie between your eyes and pixels on the display screen(s). They focus and reshape the picture for each eye by angling two 2D images to mimic how each of our eyes take in views of the world (also called stereoscopic). This creates an impression of depth and solidity, which we perceive to be a three-dimensional image. Lenses on each virtual reality device are not one-size-fits all and have to be adjusted for initial use as all devices have different lens properties.

Display screens show the images that user view through the lenses. They are typically LCD and receive video feed from the computer or smartphone. Depending on the headset, the video feed is either sent to one display or two displays (one per eye). This happens via wireless connection, smartphone connection, or HDMI. The most common types of virtual reality display technology is a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screen, similar to the kinds used in smartphones and computer monitors. An alternative display technology is an Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) screen.

Virtual reality systems demand a substantial amount of power, even in comparison to notoriously power hungry gaming systems. The processing power required by virtual reality systems can be broken down into several categories:

Field of view (also called Field of Vision or FOV) is an important component used in virtual reality to provide users with a realistic perception of their environmental landscape. Simply put, field of view refers to how wide the picture is. Field of view is measured based on the degree of display (e.g. 360). Most high-end headsets make do with 100 or 110 field of view which is sufficient for most virtual reality content.

Frame rate refers to the frequency (rate) at which the display screen shows consecutive images, which are also called frames. Television shows run at 30 frames per second (fps) and some game consoles run at 60 frames per second (fps). In virtual reality, a minimum frame rate of approximately 60 frames per second is needed to avoid content stuttering or cause of simulation sickness. The Oculus Rift runs at 90 fps, providing Oculus Rift users with a very lifelike experience. Future Frame rates for virtual reality headsets are set to inevitably continue getting faster, providing for a more realistic experience.

Latency refers to the amount of time it takes for an image displayed in a users headset to catch up to their changing head position. Latency can also the thought of as a delay, and is measured in milliseconds (ms). In order for an experience to feel real, latency usually needs to be in the range of 20 milliseconds (ms) or less. Low latency, or very little delay, is needed to make the human brain accept the virtual environment as real. The lower the latency, the better. The higher the latency, a noticeable and unnatural lag may set in, consequently causing simulation sickness for the user.

Virtual reality audio may not be as technically-complex as the visual components, however, it is an equally important component to stimulate a users senses and achieve immersion. Most virtual reality headsets provide users with the option to use their own headphones in conjunction with a headset. Other headsets may include their own integrated headphones. Virtual reality audio works via positional, multi-speaker audio (often called Positional Audio) that gives the illusion of a 3-dimensional world. Positional audio is a way of seeing with your ears and is used in virtual reality because it can provide cues to gain a users attention, or give them information that may not be presented visually. This technology is already quite common and often found in home theater surround sound systems.

Tracking handles the vital task of understanding a users movements and then acting upon them accordingly to maintain full immersion in virtual reality. Below, we explore the three of the main types of virtual reality tracking:

Head tracking refers to the way in which the view in front of you will shift as you look up, down and side-to-side. A system called six degrees of freedom (6DoF) plots your head in terms of your x, y and z axis to measure head movements forward and backwards, side-to-side and shoulder to shoulder, otherwise known as pitch, yaw and roll. Head tracking utilizes a series of sensors, vital to any virtual reality headset, which includes agyroscope, accelerometer, andmagnetometer. Head-tracking technology must be low latency in order to be effective. Anything above 50ms will cause a lag between the headset movement and virtual reality environment changes.

Motion tracking is the way in which you view and interact with your own body (e.g. hands, movements, etc). One of the most natural motion-related acts is to want to be able to see your own hands (virtually) in front of you. To do this, virtual reality input accessories such as gloves can be used. Other motion tracking devices such as wireless controllers, joysticks, treadmills, and motion platforms are now being used to supplement the headset and provide an even more immersive experience. Many of these input accessories utilize sensors to detect gestures such as pointing and waving. Virtual reality systems such as HTCs Vive headset, utilize base stations to track the sensors from the headset and controllers.

Eye tracking technology is still maturing, however, it may be one of the most important missing pieces to complete the virtual reality full immersion puzzle. Eye tracking involves tracking the human eyes via an infrared sensor that monitors your eye movement inside the headset. The main advantage to this type of tracking is that depth of field (i.e. distance) becomes much more realistic. In a virtual reality headset, the objects that our eyes focus on, need to look as life-like as possible. Without eye tracking, everything remains in focus as you move your eyes but not your head around a scene, thus causing a greater likeliness of simulation sickness.

It takes bold visionaries and risk-takers to build future technologies into realities. In the field of virtual reality (VR), there are many companies across the globe working on this mission. Our mega list of mixed reality, augmented reality and virtual reality companies covers the top companies and startups who are innovating in this space.

A well established example of virtual reality already in use is in the field of aviation training. From flying a commercial airplane out of a crowded international airport, to training for a dangerous night-flight using only night vision, virtual reality can provide significant benefits to aspiring pilots.

Piloting commercial flights require taking on tremendous responsibility, as there are often several hundred passengers on any given flight. Training for this responsibility requires both conceptual and hands on training. The initial hands on training can often be supplemented by use of a simulator. These simulators, which employ sophisticated computer models, use virtual reality to recreate what a pilot should expect when they actually flying. Simulators even use hydraulics to recreate the feeling of takeoff and landing. The benefit to using avirtual reality flight simulatoris that this all takes place in a controlled environment, which is forgiving to mistakes and pose virtually no risk.

Almost every flight by an active military pilot can be a life threatening mission. Training to become a military pilot requires unique skillsets and knowledge of how to react in uncertain situations. Almost all branches of them military, including the Air Force, Army, and Navy, now use virtual reality technologies to train pilots. By using virtual reality, soldiers are taught how to fly in battle, how to handle emergencies and recover fast, and how to coordinate air support with ground operations. Since simulators often have visual acuity over the entire 360-degree field of view, these simulators provide trainees with very deep levels of immersion. As mentioned above, the benefit to using a virtual reality flight simulator is that this all takes place in a controlled environment, which is forgiving to mistakes and poses virtually no risk.

What is virtual reality? – Definition from WhatIs.com

Virtual reality is an artificial environment that is created with software and presented to the user in such a way that the user suspends belief and accepts it as a real environment. On a computer, virtual reality is primarily experienced through two of the five senses: sight and sound.

The simplest form of virtual reality is a 3-D image that can be explored interactively at a personal computer, usually by manipulating keys or the mouse so that the content of the image moves in some direction or zooms in or out. More sophisticated efforts involve such approaches as wrap-around display screens, actual rooms augmented with wearable computers, and haptics devices that let you feel the display images.

Virtual reality can be divided into:

The Virtual Reality Modelling Language (VRML) allows the creator to specify images and the rules for their display and interaction using textual language statements.
