Why Jordan Described His War Of The Worlds 2 Victory As The ‘Most Bittersweet Moment’ Of His Life – MTV.com

Shortly after crossing the finish line, Jordan described War of the Worlds 2 as the "toughest season" he has ever done. And despite the odds being stacked against him and his future bride Tori, the Real World alum was able to secure his third consecutive Challenge title along with Brits Rogan, Dee and CT by his side.

"Celebrating this win was the most bittersweet moment of my life," the Battle of the Exes 2 and Dirty XXX champ told MTV News. "We won, but my girl should have won. She should have been there, but that's the whole Challenge."

Only four spots remained on Team U.S. and Team U.K. as they entered Day #2 of the final: Tori was purged from the game because she could not complete an individual Thai-themed puzzle before her fianc (CT finished first, Dee second and Rogan third), plus a run and then a swim to the team's boat. Team U.K. bested Team U.S. (comprised of Zach, Ninja, Cara and Paulie) through a six-mile island run (while being chained together), a puzzle and an individual kayak to a yacht.

Jordan, who described this last leg of the competition as "cookie cake" compared to Dirty XXX, loved having his longtime lady by his side during the last showdown between the U.S. and the U.K.

"We had that bond, and we wanted each other to do well," Jordan gushed. "I truly believe Tori is the best girl to play this game."

Of course, Tori could not praise her beau enough.

"I was so proud of the team, but especially for Jordan. Odds were against him, and now he has won three times in the last three attempts, back-to-back-to-back. I think he's solidifying himself as one of the best to ever do it!"

And she's already working toward improving for the next Challenge.

"As soon as I got home, I bought a puzzle book. This is never happening to me again!" Tori said. "I'm going to be doing Sudoku in my sleep and putting together 50 f*cking piece puzzles!" Practice does make perfect!

What did you think of the conclusion of War of the Worlds 2? Were you rooting for Jordan (and Tori)? Write your opinions in the comments, and do not miss the reunion next Wednesday at 9/8c!

WATCH: Ellen sends actor Michael B. Jordan to give Jersey City activist the surprise of a lifetime – NJ.com

Frank Gilmore has spent the last three years working to improve his community through its children.

Now, hes getting some help from a famous friend.

Gilmore, the founder of the Educational Gilmore Community Learning Center in Jersey City, was featured in a segment promoting Ellens Greatest Night of Giveaways a three-night prime time special on NBC that started Tuesday in which Ellen DeGeneres and her celebrity pals deliver special gifts to some amazing people who are doing some unbelievable things.

The segment aired during Tuesdays broadcast of Ellen.

DeGeneres sent actor Michael B. Jordan to Gilmores community center on Monticello Avenue earlier this year to surprise him with two years of free rent and another $50,000 to fix up the community center.

Stunned and teary-eyed, Gilmore later said: To have someone to do that for me and the community center is a true blessing.

Gilmore, who was profiled by The Jersey Journal last year, was arrested dozens of times as a child and young adult. After losing his mother just 12 years old, he bounced around foster homes and eventually turned to dealing drugs.

In 2004, he was sentenced to 10 years in state prison for drug offenses.

You name a drug, we sold it, Gilmore told Jordan as they walked the streets of Jersey City during the segment. Theres so many people I hurt in this community, so it was extremely important to give back to this community. Definitely.

While in prison, he vowed to turn his life around. Mission accomplished.

Gilmore now works for the citys Recreation Department where hes affectionately known as Coach Woo." He opened the community center three years ago to give local kids a place to do homework, get tutoring, play video games, and just simply hang out.

Jordan, who grew up in Newark and has since stared in the Creed franchise, brought Gilmore to Lincoln High School for a heros welcome from the school community. But Jordan had one last surprise for the former Lincoln student, presenting him with a 12-passenger Mercedes Benz van for the community center.

This is just great, man. This is beautiful right here, man, Gilmore said while sitting in the drivers seat. Everyone that was (integral) for them to be here and see the reward, this is huge right here.

The Air Jordan 1 Mid Light Smoke Grey Is The Prime Base For A Dior-Themed Custom – Sneaker News

With buzz around the Dior x AJ1 still as fervent as it was upon debut, its no question that comparisons will be drawn with every gray scheme thereafter. This latest Air Jordan 1 Mid is certainly not exempt from this whatsoever, rather, it embraces such connections as palettes are nearly shot-for-shot the same as its high-end counterpart, though sans any of the luxury imprints signature all-over graphic or their luxe Italian made leathers. Instead, its strengths lie most in its unassuming appearance, all in all, lending with it a perfect base for any of the aforementioned motifs and touch-ups. Overlays paint in Light Smoke Grey, bleeding down to the tread as well as the edges of the tongue, while bases opt instead for smooth whites in complement. Elsewhere, swooshes are struck with matte black in match to the darkened laces, lining, and staple Wings insignia. Grab a quick look at these right here, and if youre readying your X-ACTO knife, sit tight for word on its official release.

That Time Michael Jordan Lied to His Teammates in the Best Possible Way – Sportscasting

Craig Ehlo. Isiah Thomas. Bryon Russell. Michael Jordans penchant for instigating rivalries with little more than his domination of the game of basketball is well documented. Theres another player who, while not as popular as the other names that were listed, had his run-in with Jordan thanks to something that he didnt even do.So what caused Jordan to lie about this player to his teammates?

If you havent heard of LaBradford Smith before today, it might be for good reason. He was the 19th pick of the 1991 draft coming out of Louisvilles storied basketball program. In four years with the program, Smith was a reliable presence.

He could score at a decent clip, average 13.6 points per game and he was an excellent playmaker with five assists to boot. He was no slouch on defense, either, grabbing nearly two steals a game over his college career. This got him into the NBA with the Washington Bullets.

Smiths professional basketball career was only three years long, most of it spent with the Washington Bullets. He averaged nearly seven points per game, two assists, and a rebound. Whatever promise he showed back at Louisville was short-lived, and after being waived by the Bullets in his third season, he would sign with the Sacramento Kings for the rest of the season before taking his talents overseas.

Despite a largely forgotten career, however, one game showed that LaBradford could turn it on when he needed it to, and as a result, he angered one of the greatest players in NBA history.

In 1993, the Washington Bullets faced off against Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. Many might have presumed that Michael Jordan would wipe the floor with the weaker opponent, but Smith made sure to make his opponents work for their victory. Despite the Bulls win, Jordan and company were left flummoxed by what they saw Smith do to the team.

Not only did Smith score 37 points in the loss to the Bulls, but he did so shooting 15-of-20 from the field, dishing out three assists, grabbing five rebounds, and getting a steal, as well. It is one of the all-time great random occurrences of a relatively obscure player outplaying the best, as Jordan had only 25 points for the game.

Despite the victory, this was too much for Jordan to handle, and he took it into his hands to make sure that this did not happen again.

Following the game, Jordan told his teammates that Smith had been talking trash to him and mocking the fact that they let an unknown player put a defending champion against the wall. Jordan was notorious for his grudges, and as the guiding force of the Bulls dynasty, the team adopted these relentless and vengeful tendencies.

They came back a swift response, as the teams would face off once again the following night. Jordan responded by hitting his first eight shots and finishing the game with 47 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals in only 31 minutes of action. The Bulls would win the game 126-101. Smith was regretting talking all that trash. Or, he may have had he actually said anything.

Jordan admitted years later that he made up the trash-talking story because he wanted the Bulls to come out as a team and play better against the struggling Bullets. His notorious competitiveness made it so that he would do anything to get an edge. At the end of the day, Smith will always have the memory of going toe-to-toe with Jordan, but Jordan always got the last laugh.

Rapper Scarface of The Geto Boys Came Close to Houston City Council Seat – The Root

Hip hop and you dont stop!

A rap music trailblazer has blazed new trails in southern political circles.

Brad Jordan, also known as Scarface a member of Houstons pioneering rap group The Geto Boys, ran for City Council and came close to winning.

Last week, it was pretty much established that the revered lyricist had what it took to shake up the political scene when he was carried into a runoff election to represent District D, which reportedly has more than 200,000 residents and stretches into the south and southeast sides of Houston.

At Saturdays run-off, the Houston Chronicle reported that former educator Carolyn Evans-Shabazz, 66, out-polled Jordan for the seat held by Dwight Boykins who opted not to seek re-election to pursue an unsuccessful mayoral bid.

But the former Def Jam Records rapper was a formidable contender since joining community efforts to combat the crime, poverty and gang violence his lyrics glorified during his 1990s hip-hop heyday.

The 49-year-old Mind Playing Tricks on Me rapper told the Associated Press that he wanted to be proactive in making a change to the chronic poverty and crime that afflicts his neighborhood.

You can sit back and point out the problems or you can address them and bring solutions to the table, he told the outlet.

2017 data compiled by Boykins stated that African Americans make up 53 percent of the district and that 30% of the population earns less than $25,000 a year.

Jordan Howard injury is taking longer than the Eagles once suggested it would – Bleeding Green Nation

With the Philadelphia Eagles officially ruling Jordan Howard out for the teams Week 15 Washington matchup, the running back will miss his fifth game in a row. Howard hasnt played since suffering a shoulder injury against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, November 3.

A firm time-table for Howards recovery has never emerged, through media reports or otherwise. But based on what Doug Pederson has previously said about Howards injury, well, it seems fair to wonder why he isnt back by now.

Lets revisit a timeline of quotes from the Eagles head coach. Well start with the first press conference in which Pederson was asked about Howards injury.

So Jordan, he did sustain late in the game against the Bears, he did sustain what would be defined as a stinger. Hes been cleared to do some sort of individual work in practice, but he hasnt been cleared for contact yet. Therefore, thats where he is at.

He wasnt cleared for contact but he was working individual drills. So we were optimistic that he was going to maybe be available for the game. Thats why [the Jay Ajayi signing] was later in the week than earlier.

Until hes cleared for contact and until I get more updates from our medical team and the doctors, right now hes still day-to-day and working through the individual portion of practice. [...] He can do individual stuff. Its a tough injury. Its a tricky injury. Again, until I get more updates and further notification on him, thats where he is at. Hes progressing. Hes trending.

Its day-to-day. It is going, it is progressing, its trending obviously in the right way. We just have to make sure that he gets his strength back before we can put him back out there.

...

To recap, Pederson used the term day-to-day to describe an injury thatll have kept Howard out of game action for at least 49 days. Pederson also said that the team was optimistic that he was going to maybe be available for the Week 11 New England Patriots game that occurred nearly one month ago on Sunday, November 17.

Its understandable, then, why Eagles fans are frustrated about this situation. Howards return is clearly taking longer than previously suggested.

So, whats the deal here? Is Howards injury more serious than the team originally let on? Did it just not progress like they expected it to?

Does Howard want to be extra conservative with his recovery since hes going to be a free agent after this season? If so, he wouldnt be the first Eagles player to take that approach.

Given that the Eagles are not very transparent about injuries unlike they used to be when Rick Burkholder was the head trainer during the Andy Reid era one can only speculate whats going on with Howard. In that regard, friend of BGN Noah Becker asks some good questions:

The Howard situation is hardly the first ordeal thats caused fans to be frustrated with how the Eagles handle injuries. Jalen Mills, for example, was once described as day-to-day during the 2018 season before then having foot surgery that kept him out for 12 months. This seasons DeSean Jackson re-injury debacle opened the team up to more criticism.

The idea that a lack of transparency gives the team a significant competitive advantage is hard to buy considering theyre 16-15 in 31 games since February 4, 2018. Instead, the biggest thing it seems to accomplish is just making fans more angry.

Perhaps the Eagles should try being more honest ... and/or be looking to make medical staff changes for the third offseason in a row.

‘It is a celebration meal’: Traditional Jordanian dishes meant to share with neighbors – The Dallas Morning News

Every night, those you live near are cooking probably at the same time you are. What if you did something out of the ordinary during this daily routine? What if you cooked with your neighbor?

I recently did just that, and now Im motivated to broaden my kitchen to include the knowledge, rituals and food memories of my neighbors.

I did what was outside the suburban Dallas norm. I asked my Plano neighbor, Tamara Abuomar, if I could cook with her. This did not seem out of the ordinary to her.

[In Jordan] we always share food with neighbors, she says. It is a way of showing care and love to them, to welcome any new ones as well. We share new recipes or favorite meals for other family members, too. Its something most of us grow up seeing our moms do.

Abuomar says malfouf (cabbage rolls) was her favorite meal as a child. All our neighbors knew that, and they made sure that they shared a plate with me whenever they cooked it, and I loved it!

Cooking with neighbors opens the door to what humans have done for millennia, working side by side and sharing what we have with those around us.

It makes me feel so good to share the love of food with my neighbors, Abuomar says. Cooking is a wonderful experience to get to know others and to build a good relationship with them.

My time in the kitchen with Tamara was pure fun two friends talking about life and making a meal together. We made ouzi, malfouf and yogurt sauce, and then shared it with our husbands and children. It felt like family.

Ouzi is a traditional food to serve in my country when we invite family and friends to our house, Abuomar says. It is a celebration meal. It gathers everyone around and its a symbol of a welcome to our home.

Our cooking experience on a recent Sunday morning revolved not only around traditional Jordanian food, but also the Instant Pot. Tamara shared Middle Eastern food and culture with me and I was able to share with her my knowledge of electric pressure cooking.

[In Jordan], lamb meat normally is cooked in a [stovetop] pressure cooker, she says. For the malfouf and rice, not all families do them in the pressure cooker because these recipes dont need a lot of time on the stove anyways. We used the cooktop pressure cooker, but the electric one is amazing and it translated the recipes very easily.

Through this experience I was also able to help her adapt spoken family recipes into a written form, which included the use of the Instant Pot.

The malfouf recipe is from my moms and my mother-in-laws combined! Its a legacy, Abuomar says. My mother used to cook it around this time of the year when the weather starts to get cooler. She always said that malfouf season starts in fall through spring. I believe it has something to do with welcoming the winter and being cozy around the table.

Abuomar moved to Plano from Amman, Jordan a few years ago with her husband Feras Abumuwis and her three young children. I knew it was a challenge for me but a good opportunity for the kids to experience this change and have more choices of life growing up, she says.

She says the move has made her stronger and more confident, but it was difficult to leave her family and friends and start all over again.

My grandmother loved to have all the family over at her house always. I still picture the big table of at least two large plates of ouzi with my aunts uncles and cousins around, Abuomar says. Some of us did not even have place to sit at the table. We were around 20 people sometimes. It was a great time with lots of joy and laughter.

Go read this New Yorker profile of William Gibson, the father of cyberpunk – The Verge

Nearly four decades ago, William Gibson published a short story called Burning Chrome in Omni magazine, and with it, he birthed cyberpunk. (It also coined the term cyberspace in its third sentence.) The story prefigured Neuromancer, Gibsons first novel and most enduring achievement. Burning Chrome taught its readers how to think about the colorless nonspace between our screens. In this weeks issue of The New Yorker, Joshua Rothman the ideas editor of the magazines website spends a lot of time with the author for a profile, and he elegantly lays out the roots of his fiction in a long, textured piece.

Perhaps counterintuitively, Rothman finds that, for Gibson, writing plausible futures begins with a deep engagement with the present. His trilogies he tends to write novels in threes are all responding to the world he finds himself living in.

With each set of three books, Ive commenced with a sort of deep reading of the fuckedness quotient of the day, he explained. I then have to adjust my fiction in relation to how fucked and how far out the present actually is. He squinted through his glasses at the ceiling. It isnt an intellectual process, and its not prescientits about what I can bring myself to believe.

Some other fascinating details: Gibson loves techwear, the functional, futuristic, quasi-military clothing you see everywhere from Tokyo to San Francisco. He and his wife, Deborah, have a large cat named Biggles. He has some real expertise in watches.

Whats most striking about Rothmans profile, though, is the way it delineates Gibsons ongoing attachment to (and relationship with) the zeitgeist. I found it particularly instructive when Rothman detailed a realization Gibson had about the internet about how cyberspace has begun to change the physical world. Heres Rothman:

In the past, going online had felt like visiting somewhere else. Now being online was the default: it was our Here, while those awkward no service zones of disconnectivity had become our There. Checking his Vancouver bank balance from an A.T.M. in Los Angeles struck him suddenly as spooky. It didnt matter where you were in the landscape; you were in the same place in the datascape.

Everything, in other words, has become a search term a portal through which you can access, immediately and nearly everywhere, the sum total of human knowledge on any subject. The meditation ends with Gibson telling Rothman hed learned about the planes hitting the World Trade Center from a forum he frequented.

Theres no question that we live in a version of Gibsons richly imagined cyberscapes: our present has been incontrovertibly influenced by the stories hes been telling us for the last forty-odd years. But at the same time, theres also no question that things feel like theyre accelerating to a conclusion thats still hard to make out.

Near the end of the piece, Rothman, Gibson, and one of his friends, the author Jack Womack, go out for dinner at a bistro in Manhattan and think about the state of play across the globe.

What I find most unsettling, Gibson said, is that the few times that Ive tried to imagine what the mood is going to be, I cant. Even if we have total, magical good luck, and Brexit and Trump and the rest turn out as well as they possibly can, the climate will still be happening. And as its intensity and steadiness are demonstrated, and further demonstratedI try to imagine the mood, and my mind freezes up. Its a really grim feeling. He paused. Ive been trying to come to terms with it, personally. And Ive started to think that maybe I wont be able to.

Womack nodded. My daughters sixteen and a half, he said. Sixty years from now, shell be in her mid-seventies. I have absolutely no idea what the physical world will be like then. What the changes will be.

Its totally new, Gibson said. A genuinely new thing.

And it does seem that way. It does all seem new; living in the here and now feels like nothing Ive ever felt outside of science fiction. But thats temporary. In the future, well know how we should have felt about this particular present.

Go read the piece over at The New Yorkers website, or, if youre feeling analog, pick up a physical copy of this weeks issue at your nearest newsstand.

I dont remember every game in the video, but some of the others were Elden Ring, Doom Eternal, Dying Light 2, and The Division 2.

UPDATE II: THE UPDATENING

According to my sources on Facebook, this was the same video used in a Black Friday ad, but with the Game Pass logo edited in. Maximum job.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE

Um. What? Xbox South Africas Twitter account has uploaded an Xbox Game Pass promo video that includes games that havent even been confirmed for the subscription service, and either this trailer was a mistake or the publish time was a mistake, but some intern is probably in trouble.

Ill update the article when the tweet is inevitably scrubbed. For now, though, we can dream.

Corepunk MMORPG Combines Cyberpunk, Diablo, And World Of Warcraft Together – One Angry Gamer

'); document .getElementById("vmv3-ad-manager") .innerHTML = ''; var loaderFrame = document.getElementById("vmv3-frm"); var loaderFrameWindow = loaderFrame.contentWindow ? loaderFrame.contentWindow : loaderFrame.contentDocument; loaderFrameWindow.document.open(); loaderFrameWindow.document.write(''+''+'ipt>'); loaderFrameWindow.document.close(); })();

Artificial Core announced that they have a new MMORPG in the works called Corepunk. They have around 100 developers working on the title, and its scheduled to enter into beta testing at some point in late 2020.

The game is played like a typical isometric loot-and-slash action-RPG. So if youre a fan of games like Grim Dawn, Path of Exile or Diablo, then youll fit right in with Corepunk.

The world aesthetic attempts to combine a cyberpunk motif with medieval-fantasy. There are some basic classes youll be able to choose from at the start of the game and then upgrade them throughout play by raiding dungeons, defeating bosses, or gathering material to craft at various stations scattered around the game world.

There are some cool elements to Corepunk, such as the game world being basked in the fog of war, or being able to hitch rides on transports that travel around the game world. You can get an idea of what the gameplay is like with the debut trailer below.

The core of the gameplay centers around exploring the world, battling monsters, attaining crafting materials, upgrading your gear, unlocking relics, attaining new skills, teaming up with other players to raid dungeons, and even ganking some unexpected newbies via player-killing.

It would be nice if this were a true sandbox-style MMO where ganking was just the way of life. It would create a nice little meta-community of potential PK Hunters. Remember those groups back in the old days of Diablo II?

Anyway, the art-style reminds me of a cross between Warcraft and Torchlight, but the gameplay is obviously mirrored after Diablo.

The inclusion of futuristic, neon-lights filled city hubs as well as classical medieval-fantasy towns and hotspots gives gamers a mixture of different gameplay experiences that run the gamut of the MMO genre.

I cant say Im terribly excited right now because I would still need to see more of the core gameplay before getting to enthralled over the idea. It certainly doesnt seem to be as ambitious as Path of Exile 2, but it will certainly be competing with it since both games are expected to enter beta around the same time.

You can sign-up for the beta at the official Corepunk website.

The Guardian view on Finlands new PM: a different type of leadership – The Guardian

The worlds happiest country, according to an international survey two years in a row, is now one of very few to have a female leader. Finlands Sanna Marin, who is 34, will become the youngest serving prime minister when she is sworn in later this week. In setting this record, the Social Democrat follows in the footsteps of another young, progressive PM New Zealands Jacinda Ardern, who was 37 when her Labour party won the 2017 election, and the first woman to give birth in office since Pakistans Benazir Bhutto (the male, 35-year-old prime minister of Ukraine, Oleksiy Honcharuk, was the worlds youngest PM for three months in between).

Finland, which was the first country in Europe to grant women the vote in 1906, is often regarded by those on the left as something akin to utopia or at least a shining example of what a big-spending, socially liberal government can achieve. Its well-funded universal education system is among the most successful in the world. Between 2017 and 2019 it ran one of the first trials of universal basic income. This summer a new left-leaning government pledged to make Finland carbon neutral by 2035 a target accurately described by Finnish Greens as probably the most ambitious in the world.

The four other parties in the new coalition are all headed by women, three of them in their 30s. New Zealand has more than 40% women in its House of Representatives (compared with 32% in the UKs last parliament). But should we make connections between the personal characteristics of a countrys leaders and its political culture as a whole? Is it a coincidence that these two nations, often viewed as progressive beacons, both have women in charge (while Ms Marin will become Finlands third female prime minister, Ms Ardern is New Zealands third)?

A female leader is certainly no guarantee that a country, or a party, has a progressive outlook. The UKs two female prime ministers have been Conservatives. Angela Merkel is a Christian Democrat. The French far right is led by Marine Le Pen. Neither are female voters or politicians necessarily any more liberal, social democratic or environmentalist than men. While Ukip and the Brexit party have never been as popular with UK women as they are with men, national populist parties in continental Europe do not have the same problem, and 53% of white women in the US voted for President Trump.

But at a time when the political life of so many nations (Brazil, India, Hungary) is being reshaped by leaders in a strongman mould, Finland and New Zealand are reminders that there are alternatives. Academic evidence on the impact of more diverse representation shows that previously marginalised groups do gain as a result of an increased focus on policies to advance their interests. Far from feeling hamstrung by her reliance on coalition partners, Ms Ardern told the Guardian that building consensus is an aspect of her job that she enjoys. To suggest that all female politicians are more adept at this style of working would be to stereotype. But just as Greta Thunbergs leadership has given new energy to the climate movement, it is heartening to see a new generation of women in government to address some of the many challenges that we all face.

WAYNE YOUNG: Island voices must be heard – The Guardian

Their voices ring like a call to action throughout the 24-page Vital Signs report, a thoughtprovoking reflection of how Islanders view their quality of life in 2019.

Overall, we measure up pretty well but through expert commentary, relevant data and most of all voices of Islanders, the report makes it clear theres still plenty of room for improvement. Voices like an anonymous participant in one of an Island-wide series of focus groups last summer who said diversity should be embraced and promoted.

While there is richness in the differing opinions, ideas and experiences that come with immigration and diversity, however, the participant said more still has to be done.

we need to fight fear, racism and bigotry with facts.

On the issue of poverty, an East Prince participant observed quality of life is based on more than income.

I tell my kids we are rich in love. Not everything is monetary value.

To fight poverty, the report offered possible solutions, among them, a basic income guarantee or livable wage, a fairer tax structure for lowincome Islanders and tying housing costs to income. Whats not needed is more study, said a Central Queens participant.

Weve been studying it to death and nothings happened.

The focus groups had plenty to say about housing. Clearly, some seniors are struggling.

Seniors cant leave their homes because theres nowhere to go, one participant said. They also cant leave hospitals because theres nowhere to go.

Again, there was no shortage of possible solutions, from intergenerational housing for seniors and students to more cooperative housing and publicprivate partnerships with more rental units geared to peoples income.

Under the theme Belonging and Leadership, some see a lack of meaningful input and participation into the planning process.

There are too many smart people with little sense who have never lived in rural P.E.I. making decisions, a participant from Eastern Kings suggested.

The perception of a widening rift between city and country, especially among rural Islanders, was addressed in a commentary by UPEI history professor Ed MacDonald. Although farm population continues to decline (3.1 per cent in 2016 compared to 63 per cent in 1931), he said it is agriculture that maintains the patchwork quilt that is intrinsic to Islanders quality of life.

And, he said, if the perception of two islands where there was once one cannot be bridged perception will become reality.

Health and well-being, of course, was a major issue addressed in all focus groups. Many participants called for a more collaborative approach to health care among government, practitioners and community, and to address the root causes of many health issues, like poverty and food insecurity, low educational levels, loneliness and lack of public transportation.

Money is nothing if you dont have health, an East Prince participant observed.

The Vital Signs report, a collaboration between the Community Foundation of P.E.I. and UPEIs Institute of Island Studies, offers a timely measure of Islanders wellness and quality of life.

Legislators would be well advised to carefully review the voices of those quoted in the report and to factor their observations into future decisions.

Voices like theirs should be at the forefront of the policy making process.

WWE Rumors: Reason why company released The Ascension (Exclusive) – Sportskeeda

Exclusive

10 Dec 2019, 20:28 IST

Following the news that WWE released Sin Cara and Luke Harper, it was also announced that The Ascensions Konnor and Viktor had been allowed to leave the company.

The former NXT Tag Team Champions featured sporadically on WWE programming after their main-roster debut in December 2014, but they had not competed in a televised match since the week of WrestleMania 35 in April 2019.

Speaking on the latest episode of Sportskeedas Dropkick DiSKussions, Tom Colohue told host Korey Gunz that the duos professional behaviour played a part in WWE granting them their releases.

For more details on The Ascension and the latest WWE releases, listen to Sportskeeda's Dropkick DiSKussions with Korey Gunz and Tom Colohue!

Having established themselves as one of the most dominant tag teams in NXT history, The Ascension failed to replicate that success following their call-up to the main roster in December 2014.

Although they picked up some statement-making victories in early 2015, notably against The New Age Outlaws and Goldust & Stardust, it soon became clear that they would struggle to be taken seriously as legitimate Tag Team Championship contenders.

In total, they earned just three Tag Team title opportunities in five years on RAW and SmackDown, with their most recent title match coming against Chad Gable and Jason Jordan at Elimination Chamber in February 2017.

WWE Rumors: Reason why company released The Ascension (Exclusive) - Sportskeeda

Even More WWE Releases Are Likely On The Way – Forbes

WWE cleaned house with a handful of releases earlier this week, and more could be coming in the near ... [+] future.

WWE made a handful of releases earlier this weekletting Sin Cara, Luke Harper and The Ascension go in one fell swoopbut that may just be the tip of the iceberg.

The company released a statement on WWE.com on December 8 announcing the quartet of releases, with the former two departures coming as no surprise. Luke Harper had been linked to a possible WWE exit for much of the year after the former Wyatt Family member took to social media to request his release in April only to have injury time added to his deal before ultimately being let go this week. Likewise, Sin Cara revealed on Twitter that he asked for his release last month, and at the time, it was reported that he likely wouldnt have his wish granted before WWE ultimately changed course.

WWE has come to terms on the releases of Jonathan Huber (Luke Harper), Sin Cara and Ryan Parmeter(Konnor)and Eric Thompson (Viktor) of The Ascension.WWE wishes themall the best in theirfuture endeavors.

For most of 2019 and even in previous years, WWE had typically avoided releasing superstars in large part due to internal fear that theyd end up in All Elite Wrestling, New Japan Pro-Wrestling or another one of WWEs biggest competitors. But earlier this year as more and more superstars wanted out of WWE due to the lure of AEW, those within WWE began debating whether or not to let those superstars go, with some pushing for WWE to release disgruntled stars who probably wouldnt make a huge impact in AEW (or elsewhere) while others maintained that WWE shouldnt let any superstar get awayno matter who that superstar is.

As evidenced by the releases of Sin Cara, Harper and The Ascension, that former group won out, and according to PWInsider.com, there are rumblings of additional releases coming, though those releases were expected to happen earlier this week and havent as of yet. Fightful Select adds, however, that a number of NXT stars believe that cuts are coming to the yellow brand in either January or February, a move that wouldnt be all that surprising given thatas has been the case with Raw and SmackDowna number of NXT stars have reportedly been seeking their WWE exits due to broken promises, poor pay and creative dissatisfaction. Tom Colohue of Sportskeeda, meanwhile, adds that there are some additional WWE stars who may request their release soon:

In other words, the recent slate of WWE releases has opened the floodgates for a potential mass exodus of talent.

Paul Davis of WrestlingNews.co reports that WWEs sudden willingness to release superstars may truly be boiling down to one thing: Money. Heres what Davis wrote regarding the recent slate of WWE releases:

A WWE source told me that another reason why the company is more open to releasing some wrestlers is that it helps them cut down on salaries while freeing up more money to offer deals to mid and upper card wrestlers who they dont want to leave the company.

As noted, WWEs new stance is that it will release superstars who it believes likely wouldnt become huge stars in AEW, NJPW, ROH, Impact Wrestling, etc. That, of course, is almost impossible to predict as most within WWE likely didnt think that Cody Rhodes or a name like Juice Robinson would have as much success as they have when they left WWE a few years back. Still, its probably safe to say that names like Harper, Sin Cara and The Ascensionwhove all spent most of their careers as mid or lower card performersarent going to turn the tide in the new wrestling war if they end up in AEW, which made them expendable at a time when WWE could be looking to cut costs while still prioritizing signing superstars it deems to be more valuable to the company.

It hasnt gone unnoticed, after all, that a talented tag team like The Revivalwhich has reportedly been seeking its WWE release for close to a yearhasnt been let go while WWE has also made re-signing Rusev a top priority amid reports that he could be looking to leave WWE as well. Names like The Revival and Rusev would probably make a much bigger splash outside of WWE than stars like The Ascension and Sin Cara, which is why WWE has put so much emphasis on re-signing those stars it believes are more critical to the success of the company. Among the names who have recently inked new long-term deals with WWE are Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns, and The Miz, who are all obviously featured much more heavily than Harper, The Ascension and Sin Cara were.

So, its apparent that WWE is still willing to shell out the big bucks to maintain talent, even at a time when its disappointing earnings have caused concern within the company. Its no secret that WWE has experienced sharp declines in many key metrics over the past year, including total revenue, live event attendance, merchandise sales and the WWE Network subscriber count, a reality that has caused some concern about WWEs financial future despite its huge TV rights deals that would seemingly keep the company financially secure for the foreseeable future. But the lack of WWE Networks growth, the companys signings of a number of top indie stars and its disappointing TV ratings have undoubtedly given WWE pause about whether or not to continue signing talents just to sign them.

As recently as a few months ago, WWE was in a position where it could sign any and all stars to lucrative long-term deals without fear about how that might affect its future. However, that was a short-sided strategy that didnt take into account what might happen if WWEs financial future seemed less secure or if it acquired more talent than it knew what to do with. Morale within WWE has plummeted this year due at least in part the sheer overload of superstars the company has, and with Vince McMahon potentially looking to cut costs, the most obviousand perhaps the easiestway to do that is to cut bait with disgruntled and/or seldom used stars who wont make the jump to AEW and immediately help pro wrestlings new No. 2 promotion.

With a boatload of WWE stars currently struggling to find a spot on TV and WWE looking to trim the fat where it can, it certainly looks like the releases of Sin Cara, Harper and The Ascension were just the beginning of what could be a long process of WWE cleaning house.

Sickle Cell Patient Gives the Gift of Music at Ascension St. Joseph – Milwaukee Courier Weekly Newspaper

Beautiful music has a calming effect and calm is important to hospital health care providers and patients. Jonathan Hood, a sickle cell patient is giving back to the hospital where he spent time by sharing his talent playing piano in the lobby at Ascension St. Josephs Hospital.

The reason I play at hospitals is I feel indebted, said Hood.

The nurses, doctors and administrative staff are there all day and night, they do so much and they have people screaming and swearing at them. Ive actually done those things to nurses and doctors.

Hood has spent a great deal of his life in hospitals due to his diagnosis of Sickle Cell. With Sickle Cell Disease, the hemoglobin is abnormal, causing the red blood cells to be rigid and shaped like a C or sickle. Sickle cells can get stuck and block blood flow, causing pain and infections.

According to hemotology.com, approximately 70,000 to 100,000 Americans have sickle cell disease, the most common form of an inherited blood disorder.

When I play I hope I can alleviate stress. I love to play because it stops my pain. I feel a sense of serenity and theres no pain anymore, said Hood.

Hood, 32, has an eclectic taste in music. From classical, jazz and gospel to soft rock. He also plays at Feed My Sheep Ministry Church where his stepfather, Carlton Barnett pastors.

When Im playing the piano I can connect to God, Hood said.

When asked what a good day for him looks like, Hood said, A good day is a day where I can be in as little pain as possible and be as productive as possible, firing on all cylinders. Im able to spend time with my wife, Jasmira and my son, Caleb and I get to go to work. Thats a pretty good day for me.

Employed at Russ Darrow Kia, Hood has a great working relationship with his supervisor and staff.

The entire staff is very welcoming, its like a family, he said.

Theres no one way to beat Sickle Cell. Its a fight. Its a battle everyday, Hood said. I dont necessarily feel Im winning the fight but its my mom, dad, stepfather, sister, grandmother, wife and son, my family that encourages me to fight everyday. Its real.

See Venus Near Saturn in the Night Sky This Week and Make Your (Skywatching) Season Bright! – Space.com

Look up the next few evenings! Venus and Saturn will appear near each other in the night sky this week.

The cream-colored inner planet and its ringed solar-system sibling will be at conjunction, or their closest apparent proximity to one another in the sky, tonight (Dec. 10) at 11:41 p.m. EST (0441 GMT on Dec. 11). The planets will appear low in the sky if you are looking southwest, no higher than 16 degrees above the horizon, according to In-the-Sky.org.

To spot Venus and Saturn , search for the constellation Sagittarius. You can also try finding it by first locating the stellar beacons Altair and Vega, which will shine overhead, according to a new video from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The huddled pair of planets will be visible together through Dec. 13, according to the space agency.

Now, if you're trying to see Venus and Saturn, keep in mind that, while both planets will appear near to each other to the naked eye, they won't be close enough to both be seen in the viewfinder of a telescope, so for telescope users, some adjustment will be necessary!

During this event, Venus will be the brightest of the two with its magnitude of -4.0. Saturn will shine at a magnitude of 0.5.

The conjunction of Venus and Saturn doesn't mean they are physically near each other there are three planets and a whole asteroid belt that separate the two worlds they will just look like close neighbors, as they'll be sharing the same right ascension.

Just like with a map on Earth, the celestial sphere can also be broken up into a grid. Our planet is marked with a grid of longitude (east-west lines) and latitude (lines running north-south). Similarly, finding locations of interest in the sky is made easier through the imposition of a grid, which uses right ascension (left-right lines) and declination (top-down lines).

Right ascension is measured in units of time. So, when Venus and Saturn share the same right ascension, its value will be 19h 21m 10s. Declination is measured in degrees, arc-minutes (') and arc-seconds ("), starting at 0 at the celestial equator (the projection of the equator onto the night sky). The celestial North Pole would be +90 and the celestial South Pole would be -90. Venus' declination tonight will be just 148' south of Saturn; the terrestrial planet will have a declination value of -2351' during conjunction, and Saturn's declination will be -2202'.

The Space.com staff has put together several telescope guides for the holiday season. Visit lists like "Best Telescopes for The Money" for recommendations on the perfect skygazing gift.
