ALT uses aerospace-inspired packaging for its "mind-expanding" liquid cannabis – Dezeen

Science, aeronautics and NASA inspired the Very Polite Agency's packaging design for ALT, a liquid cannabis product for people who want a mind-expanding rather than purely medicinal high.

The Canadian creative agency worked on every aspect of the brand identity with the ALT founders, including the name.

"ALT" is a play on the words "altitude" and "altered state" that eventually evolved into an acronym Advanced Liquid Technologies.

The product has a couple of unique selling points: it is liquid in form, and it promises a controlled but deep high that, according to the brand, opens up neural pathways and gives users a chance to see things differently.

Very Polite saw a potential market among people interested in self-improvement based on scientific approaches, and they designed the packaging accordingly.

"ALT was rooted in scientific development, which we found interesting in a space where cannabis often has an 'organic' or 'granola' association, both in aesthetic and overall tone," Very Polite partner and head of creative Dylan Rekert told Dezeen.

"We wanted to pull from the science element without it feeling pharmaceutical. We had to find a way to make it work, and to us that came in the idea of performance."

This brought Very Polite to the aeronautical and moon-landing theme not only was it scientific, it conjured associations with human aspiration and achievement that seemed right for ALT.

At the same time, the overall effect had to suit the demographic by being discrete and refined "something they would have no issue displaying on their coffee table", according to Rekert.

They took their visual cues from NASA, incorporating a minimal black, white and silver colour palette with dashes of red.

The visual identity pairs navigational elements such as crosshairs and GPS coordinates with lean, sans serif typography.

When it came to the packaging design, space food was a major reference; ALT comes vacuum-sealed in silver foil, looking like a luxury version of the meals astronauts get on voyages.

The box within contains five resealable vials of ALT, with dosage levels clearly labelled.

The product comes in either a "functional micro-dose" version with five milligrams of THC per vial or a "deeper expression" with 10 milligrams of THC per vial.

ALT's approach is in contrast to other new premium cannabis companies such as Dosist and Standard Dose, which have tried to associate themselves with wellness.

It is also a departure from the jokey or kitschy branding that still dominates in the sector.

"Ultimately, the cannabis industry is a pun-filled market we didn't want to fall into," said Rekert.

"What we created was a strong, aspirational concept that approached 'getting high' from a different perspective, and the idea of doing something to expand potential for yourself," he continued.

"The same way meditation has gone from a 'hippy' thing to a widely socially accepted and integrated practice, using ALT is a form of modern connectivity, evolved from the perception of simply 'getting high'," he said.

"It can be a cerebral drug, with the right dosage, expanding the mind intentionally."

ALT will be available to buy in North America, which has seen an explosion in cannabis-related products and technologies since US states began legalising recreational marijuana use in 2012.

Centennial Downsview facility renamed Bombardier Centre for Aerospace and Aviation – wingsmagazine.com

Centennial College on January 28 announced it is renaming its recently opened Centre for Aerospace and Aviation at Downsview Park as The Bombardier Centre for Aerospace and Aviation. The college also announced it is receiving a Bombardier Global 7500 flight test vehicle for training purposes.

As the global demand for aerospace technicians and technologists continues to grow, the strategic advantage of Bombardier and Centennials relationship is only amplified, said Dr. Craig Stephenson, president and CEO, Centennial College. The commitment of both partners not only aims to support the increasing labour demands of the sector, but also bolsters Ontarios and Canadas leadership position in a competitive global sector.

The donated Bombardier Global 7500 business jet (serial number 70004), interlay referred to as The Architect was the fourth Flight Test Vehicle (FTV4) of the program. It was used for interior validation testing. Since its maiden flight on September 28, 2017, the aircraft accumulated approximately 731 flight hours. Global 7500 aircraft are assembled at Bombardiers facility in Toronto.

Centennial explains its students will receive hands-on experience working on the Global 7500 prototype, which will have a permanent spot outside Centennials new hangar at its Downsview Park facility, which opened in January 2019. The Global 7500 FTV4 donation is also made possible by those suppliers providing their systems within the aircraft, including: Collins Aerospace for its Avionic suite; Parker Hannifin for its fly-by wire system; Safran Power Units San Diego for the Auxiliary Power Unit; Woodward Inc. for the rudder pedal; GE Aviation Systems for the Aircraft Health Monitoring Unit; and GE Passport.

Bombardier is proud to continue supporting Centennial College in their mission to prepare the next generation of aerospace professionals, said Alain Bellemare, president and CEO, Bombardier. With this Global 7500 aircraft donation, students will receive incomparable hands-on training using the industrys latest advanced technology.

In February 2019, Bombardier donated a CRJ200 to Centennial College for training purposes and is also providing the college with $150,000 for the completion of its Landing Gear Research project. Centennial explains this program is expected to train a minimum of 50 individuals for each of the next two years at its facility, which serves as the anchor for the new Downsview Aerospace Innovation and Research (DAIR) Hub.

Aerospace Suppliers Trim Workforces, Citing MAX, M&A – Aviation Week

Aerospace suppliers are taking different approaches on whether to cut employees as they wrestle with the fallout of the Boeing 737 MAX production halt, with some already doing so while others announce they will not.

In recent days, as public companies began reporting 2019 financial results, top executives from United Technologies and Moog said they do not intend to lay off workers over the MAX halt. UTC is assuming a 90-day halt based on guidance from Boeing, UTC Chairman and CEO Greg Hayes told Wall Street analysts Jan. 28.

We do not anticipate any layoff, Hayes said. I think that would be the easiest thing to do, but quite frankly, given the scarcity of talented aerospace workers out there, were not going to be laying anybody off for a 90-day delay here. I think were going to work on the backlog.

But the day before, Arconic CEO John Plant told analysts he expected to make headcount reductions, as well as to explore partially paid vacations and worker shift changes as his company tries to mitigate the MAX halt. Earlier in the month Spirit AeroSystems announced at least 2,800 layoffs due to the MAX.

Compounding the MAX effect on the supply chain is that several large providers are in the throes of major mergers or divestiturescorporate changes that often lead to workforce reductions by themselves. Arconic will split into twoHowmet Aerospace and rolled-aluminum provider Arconiccome early April.

At the same time, UTC expects to finalize its merger with Raytheon by then, as well as spin off its Otis elevator and Carrier air conditioning divisions. Integration planning is well underway, and were already working a detailed list of items to generate the $1 billion of gross cost synergies that were targeting for the transaction, Hayes said, referring to the to-be Raytheon Technologies.

UTC and Raytheon recently announced the pending sale of GPS and tactical radio businesses that antitrust regulators required as part of their merger, and the new Raytheon Technologies is expected to spin off more.

There will be places where we might elect not to invest and to cash out and other places where we may want to double down, Hayes said. But right now, I cant tell you what thats going to be other than the fact that were going toas we typically do heretake a dispassionate look at the whole portfolio and figure out where we think we can really add value over the long term and where we cant.

Meanwhile, cost-cutting remains a constant driver of workforce turnover. UTCs Pratt & Whitney engine manufacturer cut 1,000 people in the recent fourth quarter under an early retirement program that was well received. Hayes said Pratt had staffed up in the last five years under former head Bob Leduc as the company ramped up Geared Turbofan development and production. With Chris Calio taking over the division this year, streamlining is in order.

The payback is phenomenal on that; in fact, thats whats driving a big chunk of Pratt growth next year, is that restructuring, Hayes said. Chris is looking at a restructuring of some of the other manufacturing operations there, and there will be other things that we can do, I think, to drive efficiency at Pratt.

Aerospace inspection tech firm Anomalous wins global award in Tokyo – Insider.co.uk

Edinburgh-based tech start-up Anomalous picked up an award as one of 28 businesses worldwide to be chosen to pitch at the prestigious NTT Data Open Innovation Contest in Tokyo.

The company, whose AI software can inspect aircraft parts and identify potentially dangerous faults or damage, was one of just four UK participants at the event which provides a showcase to impress investors in the Far East.

Anomalous was awarded a Zamma Award by Kotaro Zamma, head of open innovation at NTT Data.

Chief product officer Matt Davies said the honour has encouraged it to seek backers and customers, particularly the Japanese manufacturing giants that lead aerospace development in Asia.

He said: What an amazing event. We are honoured simply to have been invited to attend. Most of the companies taking part in this competition are already well funded and highly successful. To be a bootstrapped company, only 15 months old and included with other businesses of this calibre is fantastic. Were currently raising capital and I think this event has proven that with additional funds we will be able to scale quickly.

Iotic, Digital Fineprint, and Unmanned Life were the other UK start-ups at the event in Tokyo. Digital Twin specialist Iotic was declared the Telecom and Internet of Things category champion. InsurTech startup Digital Fineprint was declared the Finance category champion.

Tom Winstanley, VP of New Ventures and Innovation at NTT Data, added: Anomalous laser focus on inspection technology impressed the judges. By working together we believe that there is an opportunity to create a triple win for Anomalous, NTT DATA and, of course, our clients in aerospace and manufacturing, improving quality and efficiency in the inspection process using AI.

Since launching their product in March 2019, Anomalous has won work with aerospace pioneers, such as Rolls-Royce, Collins Aerospace, and BAE Systems. In December, it joined the inaugural ATI Boeing accelerator sponsored by GKN.

Scottish Development International representative for Japan, Yasutsune Kanatani said: I work with a number of Japanese businesses and believe that NTT Data is one of the most advanced and innovative companies, with an extensive global network. It is extremely exciting that such a technologically advanced Japanese company has recognised the innovative work which Anomalous do.

Anomalous CEO Euan Wielewski said: Im proud of our progress to date and am looking forward to pushing forward with our ambitious plans for 2020. We already have excellent relationships with some of the worlds largest aerospace companies. To expand into the Asia Pacific market would be a step forward in our mission to become the de facto standard tool for aerospace visual inspection.

Will Aerospace Systems Unit Drive Northrop (NOC) Q4 Earnings? – Zacks.com

Northrop Grumman Corp. (NOC - Free Report) is scheduled to release fourth quarter and 2019 results on Jan 30, before the opening bell.

Sales growth in the companys Aerospace Systems and Innovation Systems segments is likely to show on the companys fourth-quarter top line.

Northrop Grumman surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate in the trailing four quarters, the average positive surprise being 11.48%.

Let's take a closer look at the factors influencing the companys upcoming results.

Aerospace Systems: A Key Catalyst

The companys Aerospace Systems segment has been a major revenue driver and is anticipated to retain this trend in the to-be-reported quarter. Increased production of F-35 jets is expected to have boosted this units top line. Moreover, the company is expected to have delivered 34 center fuselage units, indicating an increase of 62% from the year-ago quarters count.

The Zacks Consensus Estimate for revenues of this unit in the fourth quarter is pegged at $3,474 million, implying growth of 8.7% from the figure reported in the year-ago quarter.

Other Segments to Drive Revenues

Northrop Grummans Innovation Systems unit designs and manufactures the Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile (AARGM), for which it has been witnessing higher demand globally. Notably, in the fourth quarter, the segment delivered its 1000th AGM-88E AARGM, which is likely to have boosted the companys revenues in the to-be-reported quarter. Consequently, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for revenues of this unit in the fourth quarter is pegged at $1,584 million, suggesting growth of 8.4% from the figure reported in the year- ago quarter.

Technology Service Unit to Prosper

In the third quarter, sales in the Technology Services segment rose 3%, whereas operating income rose 23% with an operating margin rate of 12.7%. Based on a strong year-to-date performance, Northrop Grumman raised its guidance for the segment's operating margin rate. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for revenues of this unit in the fourth quarter is pegged at $1,081 million, indicating a 1.5% increase from the figure reported in the year-ago quarter.

Q4 Backlog to Thrive

Northrop Grumman has an impressive history of witnessing a steady flow of orders from both Pentagon and its foreign allies, courtesy of the huge demand for its manned and unmanned aircraft and military radars. Notably, during the fourth quarter, the companys business subsidiary, Northrop Grumman Systems Corp., secured a $1-billion contract for the production of Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radars. It also secured a series of other smaller contracts. This is expected to get reflected in the company's backlog count in the to-be-reported quarterly results.

Earnings & Revenue Estimates

With all segments reflecting top-line growth for the fourth quarter, we are optimistic about Northrop Grummans overall performance. Evidently, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the companys fourth-quarter sales is pegged at $8.82 billion, indicating 8.2% growth from the year-ago quarters reported figure.

However, Northrop Grummans unallocated corporate expenses are typically on the higher side in the fourth quarter. Such expenses might have outweighed the operating margin gain due to updated cash pension estimates following the completion of its annual demographic study. In line with this, the consensus mark for the companys fourth-quarter earnings, pegged at $4.78 per share, indicates a 3% decline from the year-ago quarters reported figure.

Expert Josip Heit Shares His Thoughts On Why Bitcoin Is Seen As Digital… – Forex Crunch

Until now, the world has heavily relied on traditional banknotes as a medium of exchange, however, blockchain technology seems to be on the verge of changing this. And Josip Heit was one of the first people who realized the potential of blockchain. On January 9, 2009, an enigmatic internet persona hiding behind the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto proposed a concept that would forever change the financial world.

While it is not clear whether Nakamoto is a single person or a group of people, this birthed the age of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

In 2017, when the price of Bitcoin reached parity with the price of gold, it attracted big players across various industries. This period also ushered in mainstream adoption and sparked the interest of various players across the financial market. Many referred to Bitcoin as digital gold, a new store of value.

Josip Heit, who is a renowned Bitcoin evangelist, serial entrepreneur, and businessman, believes that since, just like gold, Bitcoin has a limited inflationary economy that is capped, is a scarce commodity, and has even outperformed gold in value, its safe to refer to it as digital gold.

There are only 21 million Bitcoin in existence, the world population is over 8 billion and steadily rising, if each person was to have a bit of it, we will end up with just a little fraction of one Bitcoin. This is testament to the fact that Bitcoin will be worth a fortune in the near future, its just like the gold rush, we are in such an era, said Josip Heit when asked about his thoughts on the future of Bitcoin.

Heit is well known for sharing his thoughts around the blockchain and gold sector. Before he got involved with blockchain technology, Josip Heit spent many years building companies that trade raw materials and precious metals and gathering valuable experience that enabled him to take over the blockchain sector by storm. He can definitely be regarded as an authority in these areas.

Josip Heit has pioneered many startups in the past and he currently is, among other things, the CEO and Chairman of the Board at Gold Standard Banking Corporate AG as well as Chairman of the Board at GSB Gold Standard Banking Corporation AG. As Chairman of the Board at Karatbars, Heit led a team that founded the Impulse K1, the worlds first blockchain smartphone, which deploys the Voice Over Blockchain Protocol (VoBP) and a wide range of other blockchain-related features.

In 2018, the bear market raised some eyebrows and a lot of opinions questioning the stability of Bitcoin arose, however, Josip Heit, the Chairman of the Board of Karatbars, still thinks otherwise; According to Heit, Bitcoin has undoubtedly outperformed any traditional asset that has ever existed in human history.

For example, the USD has lost over 96 percent of its value since it was taken over by the federal reserve, while Bitcoin is growing stronger with a lot of prospects for the future. Bitcoin is leading a decentralized economy that leaves monetary control in the hands of the people, its normal for institutions that are looking to have control over it to throw unfavorable banter at it.

Gold has always been seen as a safe haven during periods of war or conflict, the value of gold always experiences a price surge in times like these. While further revealing the close similarity between the adoption curve of gold and that of Bitcoin, Heit talked about the recent security issues erupting between Iran and the United States that led to the killing of the Iranian top general Qasem Soleimani.

During this period, Bitcoin saw a price spike after news of tensions between Iran and the United States circulated showed up all over the Internet. Just like gold. This is a testament to the fact that Bitcoin, just like gold, is being regarded as a wartime safe haven. The global economic crisis could be averted by embracing this digital gold called Bitcoin.

There are a lot of drawbacks and difficulties associated with owning and trading physical gold or other precious metals due to the amount of paperwork that is required and the involvement of clearinghouses. Bitcoin represents a digital form of gold, a better version of it. Anyone can easily and seamlessly own, store, and spend it. We are already in the mainstream adoption phase.

Kevin Kelly Names Bitcoin And Blockchain Fifth Innovation Revolution. – The Coin Republic

Kevin Kelly, who is known for his key role as a founding executive editor of Wired magazine, recently shared his view on Bitcoin and Blockchain as Fifth Innovation Revolution.

According to him, Blockchain is the outward technological innovation that falls under computing and software whose advances are always in development. He also named Blockchain as the innovative technology of this decade.

The three systems based to support the Blockchain technology are already in the mature development mode. The introduction of Cryptocurrency in a centralized medium could have brought a fatal failure if the centralized system or group faced suppression from external sources.

In the year 2000, the introduction of peer-to-peer technology for cryptocurrencies came in and took the position in implementing distributed cryptocurrencies. But couldnt find a way to resolve double payments (the same money used twice).

Adam Becker introduced proof of work in 1997, and sometime later, Halfini more extensively extended this technology to a reusable proof of work in 2004. Satoshi Nakamoto successfully paved and integrated these three technologies in the Bitcoin Framework.

Kevin Kelly focused his words saying that Bitcoin not invented or created out of thin air; he believes he used the above three technologies and used it as the base framework for the Bitcoin.

The technology Bitcoin uses were already existent previously before Bitcoin was born or before its white paper released in 2008.

Bitcoin is the key user of Blockchain technology, the one technology that has brought much innovation in a decade than the previous technologies has brought any innovative changes in the past fifty years.

Blockchain provides peer to peer transaction support, which cannot be edited or tampered by any external agents. Kevin also stated that the fall or rise of Bitcoin would not disturb or kill the innovation of Blockchain technology in any format.

Bitcoin Just Got New Emoji to ‘Spread Awareness’, New Goal Emerged – Cryptonews

Source: iStock/bobmadbob

You can now use Bitcoin (BTC) emoji in your tweets, and there are calls for it to be added by the world standard for text and emoji.

Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey brought good news to the Cryptoverse on February 2, by tweeting the famous Bitcoin logo, signifying that the social media giant added the BTC emoji. Now, when users hashtag the world's most popular crypto, the emoji will appear. The CEO included it in his Twitter bio as well. However, Dorsey also tagged the consortium in charge of managing the character standard, Unicode, apparently suggesting that they should add the emoji as well.

The most popular symbol used for Bitcoin is exactly - a capital letter B with two vertical strokes at the top and bottom, as introduced by BTC creator Satoshi Nakamoto. After Unicode rejected it as a character in 2011, it was accepted in 2015, and it finally appeared in Unicode 10.0 in 2017. It's yet to be accepted as an emoji though.

The community quickly joined in, testing this new option in their tweets and bios, and it seems that the large majority of them gladly support this Twitter's latest addition, as well as the suggestion for Unicode to do the same. For example, Elizabeth Stark, co-founder and CEO of Lightning Labs, a Lightning Network developer, in which Dorsey is an investor, finds that emoji help spread awareness, and with it, increase adoption. She joined Dorsey in calling for the BTC emoji to be included in Unicode.

Other people used the new emoji to promote it too, such as Justin Sun, founder of Tron, as well as Bitcoin supporter Michelle Phan, one of YouTubes earliest creators and most famous beauty stars, who tweeted Bitcoin emoji to 900,500 followers.

Additionally, major cryptocurrency exchange Binance hashtagged Bitcoin to summon this new feature, calling for people to join the effort to get it trending, with the exchange's CEO, Changpeng Zhao, doing the same.

Meanwhile, we reported previously that in March the Cryptoverse rediscovered that Microsoft Excel included BTC among available currencies, while in February everybody was checking the Google keyboard on their iPhones for a Bitcoin sign.

Watch the latest reports by Block TV.

This is far from the only crypto-related news we've ever written about this BTC supporter and investor. For example, in March 2018, Dorsey said that with new technologies and innovations, Bitcoin will become an effective cryptocurrency. He became a crypto superstar in February 2019, when he admitted to holding the native currency of the internet.

In March, Dorsey announced that he's hiring a new team in order to help the crypto ecosystem. The team got its first member in June, and a new project, bluesky, aimed at developing a "decentralized standard for social media" was launched in December.

Meanwhile, in January 2020, payments company Square, co-founded and led by Dorsey, was granted the patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a new network that allows crypto-to-fiat transactions.

BTC is currently (10:30 UTC) trading at c. USD 9,341. It's down almost 1% in the past 24 hours but is up 8% in the past week.

Joe Rogan gives the thumbs up to the Bitcoiners’ meat diet – Decrypt

Podcaster and sports commentator Joe Rogan has been on the carnivore dietthe same diet beloved by certain members of the Bitcoin communityand it turns out he's a big fan.

According to an Instagram post over the weekend, Rogan has seen miraculous changes to this body, his mind, and overall wellbeing.

Joe-rogan-meat-diet-carnivore-bitcoin

In the post, he claims he has lost 12 pounds, has banished his aches and pains and even his vitiligoa skin condition where patches of skin lose their pigmentappears to be less severe. But what is the carnivore diet and why is the Bitcoin community so pumped about it?

The Carnivore diet is, as the name suggests, a diet composed entirely of food derived from animals. So that's no fruits or vegetables, only dairy, eggs, meat, and fish. Apparently, condiments are 'allowed'.

The Carnivore Diet stems from the controversial belief that human ancestral populations ate mostly meat and fish and that high-carb diets are to blame for todays high rates of chronic disease. Its main proponent is Shawn Baker, a former doctor who claims the diet can be used to treat depression, anxiety, arthritis, obesity, diabetes and more.

That's a good question. For the Bitcoin carnivore, there is a kind of metaphysical parallel between decentralized digital ledgers and an imagined idea of what our ancestors ate, and by extension, how they lived.

Be the first to get Decrypt Members. A new type of account built on blockchain.

"The 20th century was disastrous for human health and wealth, and the rise of central banking and industrial food was clearly a major reason why,"Michael Goldstein, the founder of the Satoshi Nakamoto Institute told Vice."Bitcoin is a revolt against fiat money, and an all-meat diet is a revolt against fiat food."

Saifedean Ammous, a Bitcoin carnivore and a professor of economics at the Lebanese American University, said:

The people who tell you to eat your 6-10 portions of indigestible toxic grains a day for a healthy and balanced diet are the same kind of people who tell you central banks have to determine interest rates for a modern economy to function. You can choose to listen to them and watch your wealth and health disappear, or you can think for yourself.

Members of the Bitcoin community regularly meet up to eat meat and talk Bitcoin. Jimmy Song is one of its highest profile members.

With news of Rogan's tacit endorsement, Bitcoiners have taken to Twitter to ask him if he'd invite Bitcoin carnivores on to his show to spread the good word.

If you're genuinely interested in peer-reviewed science behind high animal fat diets, Nutritionfacts.org, a not-for-profit website that only publishes peer-reviewed medical journals has a useful explainer. TL:DR It's a stupid idea.

A Brief History of Bitcoin and Online Casinos – CoinCodex

16 hours ago | Sebastian Gold

The casino industry was among the first businesses that went online. By doing so it managed to increase its popularity and profits while providing millions of clients with the services they need. The industry made the jump online thanks to its active following of technological trends. As technology advanced so did the casino industry and online casino were born.

To put it simply, they are websites that offer casino games on the internet, but theres a bit more to it than that. The games arent just the classic ones offered at land-based casinos but reinventions of those games. Whats also offered is a heap of bonuses so the players can earn more prizes. Thanks to the industrys skill of keeping track of tech trend these websites went mobile and the industry spawned its first mobile casinos. Trends came and went, and one of the few that stay to this day is Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is a digital currency that was created in 2008 by Satoshi Nakamoto. As it slowly gained popularity a foundation called the Bitcoin Foundation was established in 2012 and its main goal was to develop digital currency. Something so new made an important impact on the financial sector. The thing that made it so popular is that the third party was cut out entirely when making a transaction which is why the online casino industry took notice and before long a fewonline casinos that accept Bitcoinappeared on the market, and in time the first Bitcoin casinos were born.

Online casinos started adopting the new payment method in 2015. During that time, Bitcoin was still pretty unknown to the public, but there were a lot of gamers that started playing games using the cryptocurrency. The big breakthrough came in 2016. During the summer that year, Bitcoins value started going up and record numbers of online casinos adopted it and started promoting it. Before that, most of the online casinos that accepted Bitcoin were specifically made for this payment method. By 2017, when Bitcoins value was at its highest, hundreds of online casinos accepted it as a payment method.

You may ask yourself, why are online casinos so fond of Bitcoin? Because the cryptocurrency brings advantages to both sides. On one side, online casinos are optimized for the use of Bitcoin and these websites dont have to pay the fees for the transactions their clients make. By using it, players also pour more money into the games compared to the standard payment methods. Deposits are also instant. On the players side, any withdrawals made with Bitcoin are instant, unlike other payment methods where you have to wait as long as 7 days to receive your money. Bitcoin is also a plus factor in the players safety, due to its increased level of anonymity.

Bitcoin is still among the trendiest payment methods at online casinos. From the looks of it, the cryptocurrency may become the leading option for players in the years to come as more and more Bitcoin casinos emerge.

BSVs Upcoming Upgrade Will Increase The Block Size From 2G To Infinite – The Coin Republic

Beingcrypto has mentioned that the hard fork upgrade is going to make three changes.

First of all, the Genesis will be removing the current hard cap on block size. This will, in theory, increase the transaction volumes. At present, the block size limited to 2G, but after the change, it will become unlimited.

Secondly, the second aim of the Genesis is to restore the vanilla Bitcoin protocol which is

BSV team believes that P2SH brings privacy and security issues. It also breaks the smart contract function and privacy model originally designed by Bitcoin. P2SH is an address type and is an acronym of Pay to the Script Hash.

This address begins with a 3. It is the most commonly used Bitcoin address type. Lastly, the Genesis is also going to stabilize the agreement. The current agreement would revert to the original one.

Satoshi Nakamoto proposed the original Bitcoin vision in 2009. The BSV team stated that a stable agreement is necessary to ensure that the data executed on a block is not only valid for one or two years, but over a hundred years.

The official statement made by the BSV team states that the team considers Genesis to be more like a fix and not an upgrade.

Earlier, Jimmy Nyugen, the Chairman of the BSV foundation, mentioned that the significance of Genesis is, A world in which all types of data, transactions and digital activities can be chained on a public blockchain, just like the current world Works the same online on the public internet.

How profitable will Bitcoin be in 2020? – Coin Rivet

Whether due to a lack of trust in a countrys financial system or simply because new speculators want to make money, everyones talking about Bitcoin again.

The worlds largest cryptocurrency has been making the headlines in the mainstream press from Bloomberg to the BBC. And the question everyone wants answers to is how profitable will Bitcoin be in 2020?

Bloomberg published an article on December 31 stating that BTC had yielded early investors an eye-watering 9,000,000% rate of return on its starting price.

Sure, not everyone was buying Bitcoin back in the days when it was magic internet money. But theres still no other asset in the world that can even come close to such an astonishing ROI.

Demand for Bitcoin has been steadily on the rise, especially in developing regions such as Latin America. The worlds number-one cryptocurrency was featured in Argentinas most prominent national newspaper La Nacion last week.

The article posed the question, based on its performance over the last decade, how profitable will Bitcoin be in 2020?

You only have to take a quick look at statistics from peer-to-peer Bitcoin trading sites like LocalBitcoins to see how Bitcoin in Argentina is on the rise, hitting an all-time high in trading volume in the run-up to Christmas.

As the government clamps down further on access to the US dollar and other foreign currencies, demand for Bitcoin increases.

It is better than gold as a refuge for capital when there is a crisis, Javier Pastor, commercial director of the Bit2Me cryptocurrency exchange, told BBC Mundo. Bitcoin purchasing in Argentina certainly follows this pattern.

The spikes in buying Bitcoin all occurred when the political climate was particularly tense and capital controls were imposed. This is a trend that we see clearly in countries with hyperinflation like Zimbabwe or Venezuela, and also at times of global tension.

After Irans attack on US military bases in Iraq in response to the death of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, Bitcoin rose 8% amid investor uncertainty. So, can we expect these conditions to continue and do we really want to profit from conflict and global turmoil?

Maybe not, but Bitcoin does seem to do better in times of trouble as Pastor commented.

He added, My projection is that in 2021 Bitcoin will reach more than $100,000, claiming hes convinced that digital money will completely transform the financial system in the future.

For anyone following Bitcoins trajectory, its been a wild ride. Its high volatility and the plethora of exchange hacks and scams always grab the headlines.

But even those who regularly trash Bitcoin, such as CEO of Euro Pacific Capital Peter Schiff or University of New York economist professor Nouriel Roubini, cant deny the numbers.

When it was created by Satoshi Nakamoto in January 2009, Bitcoin was worth less than a dollar. In 2017, it rose to almost $20,000 only to crash back down to just over $3,000 the following year.

Despite all the leaps and plunges, Bitcoin has certainly been profitable. In fact, as mentioned earlier, those who bought Bitcoin at the beginning have experienced a return of 9,000,000%.

So, how profitable will Bitcoin be in 2020 and the coming decade? This is the question on everyones lips from Argentina to the UK, South Korea, and anywhere else in the world.

Theres no shortage of price predictions for the value of Bitcoin by the end of 2020.

Crypto lending platform Celsius Network founder Alex Mashinsky believes that Bitcoin will be worth $30,000 by the end of the year. The future of cryptocurrencies is promising, he told BBC Mundo.

Mashinsky bases his optimism on the fact that Bitcoin is a scarce asset with a capped supply of 21 million, which guarantees its long-term success.

Moreover, he compares Bitcoins 11-year performance with the best-performing stock Netflix. While Netflix scored early investors a wild return of 4,000%, that pales in comparison to Bitcoin.

Hes not alone in his bullish outlook. In fact, several other industry experts believe it will be even higher than that. Antoni Trenchev, the co-founder of Nexo, projects Bitcoins price to hit a high of $50,000 towards the end of 2020.

Another factor behind Bitcoins price beyond geopolitical tensions and an uncertain global economy is the upcoming Bitcoin halving in May, which happens every four years and will slash the block reward for miners in half.

Historically, each Bitcoin halving has sparked a Bitcoin bull market, and many in the industry are convinced that this years halving will have the same effect.

After the previous two halvings in 2012 and 2016 there was an increase in the price of Bitcoin of 8,000% in the first case and 2,000% in the second.

That will cause a price increase for sure, said Pastor. However, not everyone is in agreement, citing different conditions this time around and no guarantees simply based on past performance.

There are still many who maintain that Bitcoin is a bubble and a scam, claiming that the market is rife with manipulation and investors better beware.

For example, Roubini has previously described Bitcoin as the mother of all bubbles, saying that it is dominated by quacks and scammers.

He argues that cryptocurrencies have given rise to a completely new criminal industry, which includes unregulated extraterritorial exchanges, paid propagandists, and an army of scammers seeking to keep the money from the minority investors.

Other economists staunchly opposed to Bitcoin include Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz. He has gone so far as to say that it must be outlawed as it was made to evade regulations and does not serve any useful social function.

Cases of fraud, theft, and other incidents have also made investors more cautious, with more than $4.4bn in cryptocurrency stolen in 2019 alone. If you look at investing in Bitcoin under this lens, in all likelihood, youll take a second glance.

More regulation is on the cards for 2020 as well. This could be a double-edged sword for Bitcoin and the cryptocurrency market.

Tighter regulation may force some exchanges out of business and may cause some coins to be delisted. However, a regulated market may also help to lure more institutional investors to the table.

So how profitable will Bitcoin be in 2020? That honestly remains about as predictable as the weather. Thats part of the fun of buying Bitcoin after all.

If you believe in the fundamentals of the technology, if you understand its use case and its value, youll expect that Bitcoin will be profitable in 2020 and well beyond.

But if youre from the investment school of Warren Buffett or Nouriel Roubini, you may expect it to go to zero.

Only time will tell whether Bitcoin will be digital gold or a flash in the pan, but it certainly makes an interesting case and with a 9,000,000% rate of return, it has certainly been profitable in the past.

Paradise Island apartment complex where fire destroyed building failed fire safety inspection in 2016 – FirstCoastNews.com WTLV-WJXX

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. According to the most recent fire safety inspection records for Paradise Island Apartments, the property passed an inspection in 2018 but failed an inspection in 2016. Documents from Jacksonville Fire Marshal Chief Kevin Jones state the property failed the 2016 inspection because it didn't maintain the required annual inspection of its fire alarm system.

During the two-alarm fire that destroyed 20 units in one building Sunday afternoon, residents said they didn't hear or see any alarms, smoke detectors or sprinklers go off. No residents were hurt in the fire.

"I didn't hear anything," Kerry Wagner, who lives in the building destroyed, said. "I just heard a lot of popping and a lot of people screaming. It is concerning."

Im sorry, were paying rent and thats supposed to be a safety thing," Lisa Accomando, who lives in the building the fire tore through, said. "They changed the battery in the alarm when we moved in. Thats what they said. Why didnt it go off? Why didnt the one above us go off? I dont know."

Jones said the problem in 2016 was corrected a month later. During a re-inspection of the property that next month, the previously cited fire code violation was corrected, and the property got a pass status. The inspections are done every two years.

The next fire safety inspection for the property is set to happen before the end of the month. Jones said he planned to visit the property Monday evening to address questions about whether or not the property's fire alarm system had activated.

Residents credit a group of teens for getting most of them out of the building. They said the teens acted as the alarm system, banging on doors and yelling for everyone to get out.

"They went and they knocked door to door screaming, 'Fire! Fire!' and got as many people as they could out," Kerry Leonard, who lives in the building destroyed, said.

"I totally credit them [for helping the residents]," Accomando said. "They were so nice and so sympathetic. They were like, 'We're just doing our job,' and I was like, 'No,' that was way above what they were doing. They were actually in that place while it was on fire knocking on doors."

Some of the teenagers live in the front of the complex, others were visiting, and said they noticed smoke coming from a building in the back and ran to help.

"The only alarm going off was us beating on the doors," Zachary Grubb, one of the teens, said.

First Coast News asked management at the complex about the alarms not going off. Management sent a statement reading in part:

"Thank you for your concern. Paradise Island is thankful for the professionalism and hard work of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and the residents of our community who assisted their neighbors during Sunday's incident ... Since this is an active investigation, we are directing all requests for information to the fire department investigators."

Monday, residents waited as ATF agents went unit-by-unit to see if they could find anything in the rubble. ATF agents said theyre helping the State Fire Marshal with the investigation, something they commonly do.

"This jewelry box my wife has had for several years," Wagner said, holding one of the only things to make it out of his unit.

"Inside is her birth certificate and her passport," he said. "ATF was gracious enough to get it for her and go in the room. Every bit helps. We're still shocked and in grief about things, but almost everything is replaceable."

The teens who helped sound the alarm have now set up a GoFundMe page to help the victims of the fire.

All they have is what they wore out and what they could grab," Michael Rizzo, one of the teens, said. "They probably have little to no help besides the Red Cross, and anything we can do to help them is better than nothing. Its what we have to do to help this community."

"If my house burned down one day, and we had to start from the bottom, I think these people need a little bit of help," Steven Deason, one of the teens, said.

The teens' help, neighbors said, a silver lining in so much devastation and frustration.

"I didn't know that kind of generosity and heroism was around here," Accomando said. "It's going to be hard starting over."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the State Fire Marshal's Office said it doesn't believe it was caused by anything suspicious.

San Jose Island barges heading back into the water – KRIS Corpus Christi News

After more than two years, the barges washed onto San Jose Island by Hurricane Harvey are making their way back into the water.

Kirby Corporation Vice President Public & Government Affairs Matt Woodruff told KRIS 6 News the process has started, and the first day went well.

The first barge was moved successfully on Monday, but it took some preparation. The areas between the barges and the water were re-graded to create a path for the ships' re-entry. Woodruff said crews also were mindful of not causing disruption to the areas' vegetation and animals.

Then, the Kirby Corporation, which now owns Higman Marine -- the barges' owners when the storm hit -- place inflatable rollers horizontally under the barges, which allows them to be gently glided back into the water.

After they are far enough into the water, Woodruff said, a tugboat picks the barge up and takes it to the shipyard, where it can be repaired.

"They made really good progress on the first one," Woodruff said.

The project could be complete by the end of the month, but inclement weather also could extend the project.

"A cold front could shut it down for a few days," he said, adding that rain or rough seas could push work into March.

Love Island Gossip Column: Shaughna was on Celebs Go Dating?! And Margot Robbie parties with ex-Islanders – The Tab

I dont know whats happening either

Welcome toThe TabsLove Island 2020 gossip round-up, bringing you the pettiest drama and the least believable tabloid exclusives from around the web today.

Sophie and Wallace were voted out of the villa this weekend. In their exit interviews they were both asked who they thought was playing a game. Wallace said: Mike for sure. Sophie said: The only tiny game player would be Mike because some of his moves dont add up, but Im sure he doesnt mean anything maliciously.

Sophie added: I feel like some of the stuff he is doing doesnt add up. He said he had all these feelings for Leanne and then switched it off straight away and moved onto Jess. I dont know if hes playing a game or not. I feel like when things did break off with Leanne, he was scrambling and thinking I need to be in a couple, I need to have a connection in here. It worked because I feel like I left on the terms of him having a connection in the villa. None of the Islanders would have wanted to break that up because he and Jess had just had a kiss.

In an interview, Love Island 2018s Wes Nelson has said he wants to marry his girlfriend, Love Island 2019s Arabella Chi. He told CapitalXtra: In the future for sure. Were not rushing anything. Were going at our own pace, and thats why I think its been so successful. Weve just chilled.

He added: You know what it is, were just happy, genuinely really really happy, just smiling all the time. I dont think weve had an argument where weve been angry at each other.

He was then asked if Arabella was the one, and he replied: Of course its a yes, I dont get into relationships if Im not looking for a long-term and forever. The thing about Arabella is we not only work well as a couple, we work well as a working couple.

According to OddsChecker, a site which ranks all Bookies across the UK, Demi is the top woman to place bets on to win winter Love Island 2020. And tbh, nothing would make me happier than seeing her and Nas split the 50k and live happily ever after.

We were all lowkey expecting Sophie to leave with Connor when he was voted out. So when she stayed it looked as though it could have been the end of them both. But in her exit interview Sophie has said she wants to go on dates with him. She said: It would be nice to think we can pick up where we left off. Itd be starting from the beginning and going on dates. I always love a dinner date, so Id like to see him and go for dinner and drinks, thatd be ideal.

I cant wait to see Connor when I get back, it would be nice to go on a few dates and see what happens. I am very nervous to speak to him. I keep thinking, Will he even answer a DM? because I dont have his number! I am so excited to speak to him and see him.

Love Island wasnt the first time Shaughna has been on reality TV trying to find love. She was on Celebs Go Dating last year, where she had an awkward encounter with Made in Chelseas Sam Thompson at a mixer.

Firstly Sam pretended he was a TV presenter and started up conversation with Shaughna and another girl by saying: Hello, we are live from London. He then said: Really bad flirting from me, and asked Shaughna what she does for a living. She told him she works as a fire safety officer, and Sam said: We all need safety. No one needs fire. Unless, the good fire. Shaughna was confused, and so am I.

So it turns out Margot Robbie, as in Hollywood superstar actress Margot Robbie, is a Love Island superfan. She met ex-Islanders Lucie Donlan, Jordan Hames and Michael Griffiths at the London premiere of Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn. She was fangirling over them, taking selfies with them and then they all went to the afterparty and downed shots together.

Is this real life?

IT graduate and model, Chloe Ephraim, has some pretty harsh words about Luke M. She says she met him in Turkey when she was 18, thinking he was Justin Bieber. He then led her on for FIVE YEARS and was talking to her just days before he went on Love Island. She said finding out he was going on the show made her feel sick.

Chloe told the Sun: Ive felt so sick ever since I found out. I was speaking to him four days before he appeared on the show. We were planning for me to go down and visit him for a whole weekend. He started pursuing me again just after Christmas and he must have known that he was going on the show then.

He didnt say anything. He just led me on and I was planning to go stay with him for the whole weekend. I had to hear that hed gone on the show from my friend who I had been telling the night before how much I was looking forward to seeing him. I feel like an idiot.

She said they exchanged explicit messages, but were never in a proper relationship because of distance. Chloe added: I didnt think he was a player and thats why I liked him. But it makes sense as he used to send me intimate photos which already had captions on that he must have sent to other girls. I never said anything because I wanted to believe the best of him. My friend also found him on Tinder during a night out in Newcastle but I tried to brush it off. Weve been sending flirty text messages for five years and obviously I thought something was going to happen with us as he kept coming back to me. Hed stop talking to me when he got another girlfriend but would always restart with me and I put up with it.

Ellie Brown had a wild 2018 Love Island journey. She came in with Zara, kissed Dr Alex, dumped him, had a huge fight with Georgia Steel and left with Charlie Brake. But she says some of the dramatic scenes she was in, particularly where she called Georgia an ugly cunt after Georgia denied kissing Jack Fowler, were edited to make her look bitchy.

She told the Sun: I didnt really like how I was portrayed in Love Island. I dont feel like a true representation of what I am really like was shown. They made me look a bit bitchy. I got caught up in a few situations in the villa and I was defending friends but the way they did it made me look like I was getting involved in situations I shouldnt have, and that wasnt the case. I was sticking up for Laura who was crying her eyes out.

Remember when Wes went on Dancing on Ice and Megan Barton-Hanson went IN on his partner Vanessa Bauer? Then Megan and Wes ended up breaking up? Well Vanessa is back, and this time she actually is dating a Love Islander Jordan Hames.

The pair left the NTAs holding hands and were pictured getting into a taxi together. An onlooker told the Daily Mail: Vanessa and Jordan left the event holding hands it was obvious to those around them that theyve been seeing each other for a while.

Another source added: Jordan has been coming down to Dancing On Ice every week to support Maura, which is where hes also got to know Vanessa. Mutual friends say theyre the perfect match and are smitten though its definitely still early days.
