A study published in 2012 issue of the Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine suggested that ginger can help support memory and cognitive function in middle-aged women. The study included 60 healthy women who were between 50 and 60 of age and reside in Thailand. They were given either a placebo or a ginger standardised extract of 400 milligramme or 800 milligramme daily for two months.

Women who received the ginger supplement reported a significant improvement in cognitive functions and an enhanced working memory compared to the placebo group. According to the study, daily ginger intake improved four key brain functions: power of attention, accuracy of attention, speed of memory, and quality of memory. Based on their findings, the researcher concluded that ginger is a potential brain tonic to enhance cognitive function for middle-aged women.

They believe that the cognitive enhancing effect of ginger might be partly due to its antioxidant properties.

Ginger contains more than 100 compounds, most of which are antioxidants that are particularly important for brain health. Since it uses a lot of oxygen, the brain is more susceptible to free radical attack than any other part of the body. Vyripharm International, Inc. and the National Yang-Ming University Signed a MOU to Develop VYR-206 as a Novel Diagnostic Approach for Neurological…

Vyripharm International, Inc. (VI), is a subsidiary of Vyripharm Enterprises, LLC, a privately held company formed for Partnerships and Joint Ventures with International Public or Private Organizations. VI, which is located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas, announced today that it has executed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with National Yang-Ming University (NYMU), a research institution in Taipei, Taiwan. NYMU is famous for its research in medicine, life sciences and biotechnology. The MOU expresses the intent to develop the bio-distribution information and targeting profile of VYR-206 for diagnosis and monitoring treatment outcomes of neurological disorders.

Vyripharm's drug platform technology is a personalized medicine application for diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of some infectious diseases, neurological disorders and cancers. Moreover, the platform provides a means for labeling diagnostic and therapeutic agents to allow for tissue specific targeted diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy. The company developed VYR-206 as one of its lead compounds from several of its platforms for both proof of concepts and commercialization development.

The endocannabinoid system's (ECS) integration into the central nervous system (CNS) and immune system is extremely complex. Furthermore, the identification of cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) expression and exactly what roles they play in the ECS remains a mystery and makes development of therapies highly challenging. For example, epilepsy has been the primary focus of research due to anecdotal success in cannabis-derived medication providing significant benefit to intractable childhood seizures, which led to Epidiolex ultimately being the first FDA approved cannabis-derived medication. However, further investigations expanding to other neurological conditions and the role of the ECS as an efficacious therapeutic target are emerging very slowly. Hence, Vyripharm developed VYR-206 to functionally target the ECS through specific binding to CB1 receptors. We believe that VYR-206 will allow us to diagnose and monitor neurological disorders through targeting CB1 receptors and further correlate to treatment and how other cannabinoid receptors play a role in this highly efficient system. CB1 receptors have been shown to be expressed in many neurological disorders including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and neuropathic complications with diseases such as diabetes. Although effective treatment has remained elusive for such disorders as PTSD and TRD, CB1 receptors may serve as an efficacious target for therapy.

NYMU's Brain Research Center and Translational Medical Imaging Center is one of the leading institutes in cognition and behavioral research along with functional and structural brain imaging. NYMU has worked extensively with various experimental models for neurological disorders including PTSD and TRD. NYMU serves as an excellent partner for investigating the role of CB1 receptors as a diagnostic and therapeutic target in PTSD and TRD with the company's VYR-206 technology. We are excited at the prospect of a great collaboration to effectively study these challenging neurological disorders.

A binding contract agreement with NYMU and VI is soon to follow.

Why alternative assets are a good home in a Covid-19 world – Portfolio Adviser

We have witnessed another market crash in global stock markets and a highly polarised sectoral response, with significant recovery in some sectors and continued depression in others.

However, alternative assets such as venture capital can be somewhat decoupled from immediate macro influences. This is partly due to the nature of the business models that venture funds look to back. These often involve disruption to traditional models or looking for the opportunity that arises from macro influences negatively impacting traditional models.

In addition, by backing smaller, earlier stage companies, these can be more agile in their responses to negative market influences and find their growth niches more effectively, while larger competitors struggle, locked into their incumbent models.

The impact of the pandemic on most unlisted investment portfolios appears, so far, to have been modest. For example, many of our private company investments in one of our funds are in early stage life science companies, and these have proven resilient despite short-term disruption from medical laboratories being closed and patients not being able to take part in clinical trials. Indeed, funding in these sectors remains close to near term highs. Other funds we manage are invested heavily in software for businesses and many of these are holding up well.

Over the long term however, there are plenty of business and market opportunities. The pandemic has resulted in a demand for innovation and technology in many sectors, to provide resilience and to service people and industries in their new ways of working. In particularly in software, on-line retail, healthcare and life sciences we expect there to be a lot of capital chasing that innovation over the next five years, whilst some sectors such as leisure, tourism and aviation will struggle and may never recover.

Covid-19 has resulted in a new way of working and this remote aspect will require improved and enhanced technology to drive it as the population becomes more home-based. We expect to see a massive uptick in the use of technology in healthcare service delivery, particularly in primary care, mental health and follow ups.

In life sciences, the way clinical trials are run will change at a faster rate than before, with the adoption of technology at a much greater speed, shortening sales cycles, and with a greater appetite to innovate and try new, more agile approaches; there was a case for using this technology prior to Covid-19, but now it is becoming a necessity. We have seen the acceleration of between three-to-five years of normal cycle adoption in barely two months, which is great if you are invested in those business models.

These trends are feeding into an overall trend for using technology in the healthcare and life sciences sectors. In the US this is leading to unprecedented levels of investment activity, where digital health investment during H1 2020, according to Rock Health, was at an all-time high of $5.4bn (4.1bn) and looks set to be a record year.

During this period of disruption, we are continuing to see a myriad of innovation coming out of UK universities renowned as the worlds leading research institutions, particularly in the arena of cell and gene therapies. These have been invested in and developed over decades of research funding, and so short-term disruptions, such as the recent pandemic, will have minimal impact on that flow in the long-run.

UK universities excel in life sciences and, in particular, standout on the global stage in high impact innovation in personalised medicines, a particularly strong current theme driven by the need and demand for highly tailored treatments. There are a lot of interesting technologies being developed, especially at UCL, from gene therapies for rare terminal illnesses or blinding eye diseases such as those developed by UCL Tech Fund investee companies Orchard Therapeutics (ORTX) or MeiraGTX (MGTX) to personalised cell therapies for previously incurable cancers.

There are world changing technologies emerging that have been worked on for the last 20 or 30 years, but are now coming to market. We are witnessing a confluence of technologies, building on previous work, and we are seeing the coming together of technologies such as Crispr gene editing, gene vectors and genomic sequencing, all powerful tools for precision medicine.

Prior to Covid-19 there was a lot of liquidity in the private market, with a lot of available dry powder, capital allocated to funds but not yet deployed. As public equities have crashed in value over the past few months many portfolios, with exposure to both public and alternative assets, have become automatically overweight in alternatives, since re-balancing these assets intrinsically takes time.

Many investors may therefore pause before allocating these funds back towards alternatives such as venture capital. However, some will see the immediate opportunity in high-demand growth sectors such as life sciences, digital health and software-based technologies and others will come back over the mid-term, as drivers such as low interest rates and volatile public markets, force investors to look to alternatives, such as private equity and venture, for their returns.

Alternative treatment for anxiety – Medical News Bulletin

Stress is unavoidable. People have their own strategies when coping with loss, grief, trauma, and other stressors. Some may relieve stress through physical activities, journal writing, or hanging out with family and friends; while others seek treatment, which can include alternative treatment for anxiety. Stress and anxiety go hand-in-hand. Anxiety is a normal response to stress resulting in nervousness, worry, and unease. Other symptoms of anxiety involve increased heart rate, breathing rapidly, and insomnia. Unfortunately, stress may appear more severe in individuals with an anxiety disorder that can intensify their mood, existing anxiety, and depression.

Anxiety disorder occurs when an individual possesses irrational fears and experiences frequent, severe anxiety symptoms. The severity can significantly impair their normal daily functioning. Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is the most common type of anxiety disorder.

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) recommends psychological therapies, as the first line treatment for anxiety. These psychological treatments include relaxation techniques, meditation, biofeedback, and stress management, supportive counselling or family therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Current research shows that CBT is the most effective. If the anxiety disorder has no response to psychological therapies, then there are medications that have also been proven effective for treating anxiety.

There has been a recent resurgence of Chinese and Ayurvedic herbs, known as adaptogens, as an alternative treatment for anxiety. Adaptogens are marketed to potentially improve the bodys ability to handle physical or biological stress. However, there is relatively little scientific research on how adaptogens truly work. Dr. Brenda Powel, a co-medical director from the Cleveland Clinics Wellness Institute, quoted from a 2018 Time article, Each adaptogen has a slightly different function, so the best one for you depends on the specific ailment youre experiencing. Theyre meant to bring us back to the middle.

Ashwagandha is one of the most commonly used and extensively studied adaptogens. It is also known as Withania somnifera Dunal, Indian Ginseng or Winter Cherry. Ashwagandha literally means smell of horse. It was believed that the consumption of the herbs extract gives the consumer the strength and vitality similar to a horse! In Ayurvedic medicine, ashwagandha is considered a royal herb for its diverse healing effects on the human bodys nervous system, immune system, energy-production, endocrine system, and reproductive system.

Pharmacological studies have identified the major chemical components that relate to ashwagandhas healing effects. Animal studies have reported that the herb can reduce stress, reduce depression, protect the loss of neurons, and influence sex hormone production.

Ashwagandha human trials are still limited but show promising results, especially in people with anxiety. Recent human studies have revealed that ashwagandha reduces anxiety in adults with GAD and reduces stress hormones (such as cortisol), heart rate, and blood pressure in chronically stressed adults. It must be noted however, that these human studies had a small number of participants and short-term treatment duration.

Two 60-day studies assessed the safety and effectiveness of ashwagandha extract in reducing stress, anxiety and depression in adults, aged 18 to 65 years. Both studies evaluated stress levels using stress-assessment questionnaires.

A recent study determined the safety and effectiveness of ashwagandha extract in patients with insomnia and anxiety.

Overall, ashwagandha has the potential to safely and effectively improve stress and overall well-being. It is also a potential natural treatment for reducing anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Healthy adults using ashwagandha have reported good tolerability with no significant side effects. Future research with larger and diverse sample sizes and long-term duration of treatment will reveal a more robust understanding of the effects of Ashwagandha and its use as an alternative treatment for anxiety. If you are planning to start herbal supplements with other medications, it is important to consult with your doctor before starting. Herbal supplements may have the potential to interact with other medications.

The Golden Rule: Treat Others the Way You Want to Be …

The golden rule is a moral principle which denotes that you should treat others the same way you would like to be treated yourself. For example, the golden rule suggests that if you would like people to treat you with respect, then you should make sure to treat them with respect too.

The golden rule is an important philosophical principle, which has been formulated in various ways by many different groups throughout history, and which can be used to guide your actions in a variety of situations. As such, in the following article you will learn more about the golden rule, see how it can be refined, and understand how you can implement it in practice.

The golden rule can be formulated in three main ways:

Different people tend to be exposed to different forms of the golden rule to a different degree, based on factors such as the predominant religion in their society.

However, all these forms of the golden rule revolve around the same underlying concept and around the same underlying intention. Namely, all forms of the golden rule aim to help you treat others better, by using the way you yourself would want to be treated as a guide of how to behave.

Note: in some cases, the negative form of the golden rule is referred to as the silver rule, though this distinction isnt always made. In addition, the general concept of the golden rule is sometimes also referred to as the ethic of reciprocity. Finally, in some contexts, the term golden rule is used to refer to an important rule or principle in a certain field (for example the golden rule of engineering), rather than to the golden rule in the context of morality.

There are many examples of ways in which the golden rule can be implemented, in its various forms. For example:

The underlyingprinciplebehind the golden rule has been proposed in many different formulations throughout history, by various individuals and groups.

For instance, many philosophers proposed variations of this concept, as you can see in the following examples:

That character is best that doesnt do to another what isnt good for itself. Zoroaster, Persia (circa 500 BC)

What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others. Confucius, China (circa 500 BC)

We should conduct ourselves toward others as we would have them act toward us. Aristotle, Greece (circa 350 BC)

What you shun enduring yourself, attempt not to impose on others. Epicetus, Greece (circa 150 AD)

To do as one would be done by, and to love ones neighbour as oneself, constitute the ideal perfection of utilitarian morality. John Stuart Mill, England (1861)

Similarly, the golden rule has also been featured in various formulations by many different religions:

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. (Christianity)

That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow. That is the entire Law; all the rest is commentary. (Judaism)

No one of you is a believer until he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself. (Islam)

Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful. (Buddhism)

This is the sum of duty: do naught unto others which would cause you pain if done to you. (Hinduism)

Keep in mind that many of these variants of the golden rule are translations from versions of it in other languages, such as the Latin quod tibi non vis fieri, alteri ne feceris, which can be translated as do not do to another what you do not want to be done to you.

In addition, keep in mind that the exact origins and phrasing of some of these quotes remain unclear. Nevertheless, the main takeaway from these varied examples is the fact that the underlying concept behind the golden rule was prevalent among a diverse range of groups throughout history.

When it comes to morality and ethics, there are various concepts that are closely associated with the golden rule.

The most notable of these concepts is Kants categorical imperative, which states that you should act only according to that maxim whereby you can, at the same time, will that it should become a universal law, meaning that you should only take action if you would be willing to have everyone else act in the same way.

Another such concept is referred to as Clarkes Rule of Equity, and states that Whatever I judge reasonable or unreasonable that another should do for me, that by the same judgment I declare reasonable or unreasonable that I should in the like case do for him.

The main criticism that people mention when it comes to the golden rule, and particularly when it comes to its implementation in practice, is the fact that the golden rule suggests that others would like to be treated the same way you would like to be treated, which is not necessarily true.

This can lead to problematic situations, where one person might mistreat someone else under the guidance of the golden rule. For example, this problem could lead someone to make an overt romantic gesture toward someone that isnt interested in it, simply because the person making the gesture wishes that someone would do the same for them.

This issue has been described by writer George Bernard Shaw, who famously said:

Do not do unto others as you would that they should do unto you. Their tastes may be not be the same.

However, while this issue is important to take into consideration, it doesnt invalidate the potential benefits of the golden rule, and its something that can be accounted for by refining this rule.

Essentially, based on this criticism, there are two main issues with the golden rule:

To avoid these issues, the golden rule can be refined into a variant of it which is called the platinum rule, and which states that you should treat others the way they themself would like to be treated. Simply put, the platinum rule means that instead of assuming that other people want to be treated the same way you do, you should make sure to discover how people actually want to be treated, and then treat them that way.

Note: the platinum rule is sometimes referred to by other names, such as thecopper rule.

Another notable criticism of the golden rule is the fact that, in certain situations, its application can lead to undesirable outcomes, when it conflicts with other guiding principles.

For example, if someone is convicted of a crime and sentenced to prison, the golden rule would suggest that we should let them go, because we would not want to be imprisoned ourselves. This remains the case even if we use the platinum rule, since the prisoner would likely also prefer to avoid going to prison.

However, this issue with the golden rule can be dealt with in a general manner, by viewing this principle as one of several principles that we use to guide our behavior as individuals and as a society.

Specifically, in the example described above, the golden rule would not be enough to prevent that person from going to prison, because most individuals and societies choose to place other laws and ethical principles above the golden rule, while still taking the golden rule into account. This means that they strive to implement the golden rule whenever possible, as long as it doesnt clash with the implementation of a more important concept.

This notion is described, for example, in the writing of philosopher Henry More, who said that:

The Evil you would not have done to your self, you must abstain from doing the same to another, as far as may be done without prejudice to a Third.

In Enchiridion Ethicum (1667), Chap. 4, Noema XV

The basic way to implement the golden rule is relatively straightforward: simply treat other people the way that you yourself would want to be treated.

However, as we saw above, there are potential issues with this approach, and accounting for them will allow you to implement the golden rule in a more effective manner.

First, when implementing the golden rule, its generally preferable to use the more refined version of it (i.e. the platinum rule). Essentially, this means that you should strive to treat others not necessarily the way that you yourself would want to be treated, but rather in the way that theywant to be treated.

The easiest way to accomplish this is to wait before taking action which involves someone else and ask yourself is this how this person would like to be treated?. If the answer to that question is yes, then proceed. Otherwise, modify your plan of action accordingly, before moving forward.

Keep in mind that from a psychological perspective, we can sometimes struggle to see things from a perspective that is different than our own, due to a cognitive bias known as the egocentric bias, which could make it difficult to implement this version of the golden rule.

If you believe that this is an issue for you, then there are various debiasing techniques that you can use; this includes both general debiasing techniques, such as slowing down your reasoning process, as well as debiasing techniques that are specific to the egocentric bias, such as using self-distancing language.

In addition, when implementing the golden rule, its important to remember that this rule is meant to be used as a beneficial rule of thumb, rather than as an absolute law. This means that you should strive to use the golden rule only as long as it doesnt conflict with other guiding moral principles that are more important than it.

For example, if someone wants you to treat them in a way that you know would cause them serious harm, you can refuse to do so, if you believe that avoiding harm in this case is more important than treating them the way they want to be treated.

Note that deciding which principles to prioritize over others can be difficult to do in some situations. Nevertheless, using the golden rule as an initial rule of thumb can be helpful in a variety of situations, both to the people who implement it as well as to those who they implement it toward.

Heres Everything You Need To Know To Hold Your Own In Any Group Chat Life Throws Your Way – BroBible

As we gradually transition into the technocracy that will eventually serve as the foundation for our post-quarantine world, human interaction continues to evaporate. Interpersonal communication had already been hit with some pretty brutal body blows over the past few decades thanks to email, cellphones, and other forms of technology that allowed us to greatly reduce the amount of real conversations required to function, but the widespread use of Zoom and FaceTime during a pandemic that made six feet the standard unit of personal space was a devastating blow to the jaw it may never recover from.

Not everyone is happy about this development but I honestly couldnt be more thrilled. Sure, Ive known some of my best friends since middle school but that doesnt mean Im even remotely comfortable interacting with them when we meet up. Theyre also human beings, which means its in their very nature to judge and criticize me at every opportunity and do so in an even harsher manner than a random stranger would because they view me as a friend. There arefartoo many uncontrollable variables that can come into play during an in-person conversation, and now that Ive experienced a reality where I am the God of the domain where my end of the exchange takes place, I dont know if I can ever go back to how things used to be.

However, I might be even more partial to another alternative that rose to prominence in the earlier part of the previous decade, one that eliminates virtually every undesirable element from the equation so people are forced to focus on what youre actually saying as opposed to the three chins you appear to have thanks to a combination of crappy lighting and the worlds most unflattering angle. Im talking, of course, about one of the greatest inventions in the history of mankind: the group chat.

For the uninitiated, group chats are a modern marvel that allow people to tell themselves theyre being social without ever having to leave the comfort of their own home and subsequently grants them the luxury of avoiding all of the awkward exchanges they wouldve encountered if the discussion had transpired with all of the participants in the same physical location.

As a strong, independent INTJ, group chats are probably the best thing that have ever happened to me, as you get to hang out with your buddies and strengthen your friendships but the only physical exertion required is moving your thumb around a screen. Its the best of both worlds. There are some lunatics out there who seem to needto physically be around people to thrive, which I get (well, not really), but thats just not my style.

If you want a bit more insight into how my brain works when it comes to the social aspects of life, comedian Mark Normand managed to sum it up better than I ever could.

The group chat was basically invented for people with that frame of mind. You can carefully engineer all of your comments and respond on your own time, essentially eliminating the need to improv on the spot like you would if during an in-person interaction, which far too often results in you having to apologize for something you said the next day.

Group chats are also easily the best option when it comes to communicating with friends you mightve had previously been forced to text individually. Do people even still text one-on-one? That seems like it could only go poorly. How would you even end the conversation? I always feel like I need to say the last thing or Im going to feel like Ive somehow lost a competition that doesnt exist.

However, group chats are also littered with opportunities to embarrass yourself if you dont know what youre doing. If you approach them the same way as an email, an individual text, or a face-to-face exchange, youre going to come off like an absolute psycho.

So what do you need to know about proper group chat protocol? How do you handle yourself in different situations? What do you do when you find yourself in one you want to escape? Luckily for you, I have ample experience in this territory and Ive decided to share my wealth of knowledge to help people navigate these occasionally murky social waters.

The first thing you need to understand is that all group chats are not created equal. Youll likely find yourself using them to interact with best friends, immediate family, college friends, extended family, high school friends, co-workers, old co-workers, and similarly defined groups at some point in time. Youll mostly harness them to communicate with your closest family members and the people in your various friend groups, but there are some sadly inevitable occasions where your aunt will use the chat that was used to coordinate the food everyone was bringing to the Fourth of July three years ago to ask a personal question about the ointment she suggested for that, um, problem you told her about, resulting in an awkward parade of HaHa reactions from your closest relatives.

You likely have at least a couple of group chats that see at least a little bit of action on a daily basis, and once youre locked into them, it shouldnt take long to get a feel for the various archetypes that are represented in almost every single oneincluding three youll encounter more often than any other.

Its worth noting there arent many people who will fall exclusively under one of these umbrellas and there may be some days where theyll suddenly be in an entirely different category. It happens; people take Adderall, feel that euphoric rush, and feel compelled to type a novel concerning the itinerary for the upcoming trip with the boys and then go radio silent for a week after it wears off.

With that said, there are three distinct levels of activity that you can use when it comes to evaluating the contributions of almost every participant.

This guy is always starting conversations, responding to others, and reacting to every single text and development. If hes not actively involved in a conversation for more than 10 minutes, you should call 911 because something is probably seriously wrong.

Also, this person is almost always single.

As a proud, longtime member of this group, I think I can shed some valuable light on what makes us tick. People in this category constantly feel like they are bothering the group with their endless stream of random texts, but because they dont have a girlfriend they can annoy with mundane shit, other people end up being subjected to it. Every once in a while, they scroll through old conversations and realize there is a truly disproportionate amount of blue (or green, if you have a friend with an Android you somehow havent disowned) and resolve to chill with the texting only to inevitably relapse in less than 24 hours.

I dont want to psych anyone out, but if youre in this category, the people in the following two probably have their own group chat where the primary topic of conversation is your inability to shut the fuck up. If you keep trying to clean things up but cant follow through, maybe thatll give you some motivation.

This is pretty straightforward. This guy almost never initiates a conversation, but once someone else does, theyll happily contribute to the discussion until they feel its run its course or they find something more interesting to do in real life. This person almost always has a girlfriend, because he is willing to talk but rarely feels the need to spark a dialogue because he can bounce whatever he needs to get off his chest with bae.

You can always rely on this guy to bring something to the tablejust dont expect him to set it or youre going to be hungry as hell.

You rarely find a person under the age of 30 who fits this bill because being hopelessly addicted to technology is just kind of something most members of younger generations have accepted is a defining aspect of their existence.

Now, this guy is a pragmatist who only gets in on the action when he has a very good reason to. If he sends a text, its because he viewed whatever he shared as essential information. Hes basically the parent of the chat who doesnt have time for any of the juvenile nonsense everyone else is frequently engaged in. However, every now and then, hell let his hair down and come out of the clouds with a joke no one saw coming and you will never see the chat as fired up than during those rare moments.

In addition to those universally recognized archetypes, there are also a number of unwritten rules that govern the group chat worldlike this ancient adage:

Ive never actually been part of that kind of subchat, but after spending eight years familiarizing myself with the ones that spawn them, Ive identified several unspoken laws everyone should abide byrules that I have broken on countless occasions over that span but which I am nonetheless aware of and that you should be as well.

This may as well be the Golden Rule of group chats: respond to others the way you want to be responded to. If youre coming into the chat with a funny story or hypothetical scenario that you know will spark a heated debate, the least you can do is acknowledge the response youre blatantly steering the conversation away from.

You dont have to spend too much time on the segue but you should at least toss an Emphasize or Thumbs up to the previous message, even if youre basically just saying, Hey guys, Mikey said this earlier. We all saw it and ignored it because it was stupid, so I am now moving on to something much less shitty.

The exception to this rule is if the last text was a natural end to a conversation more than one person participated in. If thats the case, youre good to go, but if youre sharing some wild stat you stumbled across after someone else informed everyone their grandma died only to be met with crickets, you need to react with a thumbs down so they know A) you saw it and B) you dislike their grandma dying.

Once thats taken care of, you can send that Did you guys know that Barry Bonds set the record for intentional walks with a number thats higher than the combined total of the players in second and third place? text that will inevitably garner a much better reception than that downer that preceded it.

Major Talkers are the label I use to describe the individuals who fall into the first of the three major categories previously discussed; the ones who crave human interaction as much as everyone else wants him to find love so they dont get a notification every hour.

As I mentioned above, one of the worst parts about earning this reputation is that you feel compelled to frequently contribute because you know people will become concernedor even worse: disrespectedif you suddenly go dark. If youre the dude who barely talks, you can keep your interactions to a minimum and no one notices or cares. Those people can occasionally ramp up production and scale back without any issue, but once youve established yourself as a Major Talker, you can never be anything else.

I know some of you may be thinking, Well, what if youre not near your phone? Its a valid question. People actually have jobs and personal issues to attend to that require them to put their phones down from time to time (or at least thats what Im told. I cant say Ive ever let real life get in the way of my sworn duties). If you encounter such a scenario as a Major Talker, youre obliged to make up for lost time with a flurry of responses to all of the messages you missed.

Will it annoy the hell out of everyone? Yes, but youre a Major Talker. Annoyance isthedefining aspect of your existence. You might as well embrace it.

This is similar to the Golden Rule, but while that simply applies to the next person to respond to something no one cared about, everyone has to adhere to this. You can ignore a shitty story or a dumb joke, but when someone throws in a YouTube video, a TikTok, or a link to something described as a great read, someone needs to hit them with an lol, or damn, good stuff, or some other perfunctory response in the timeliest manner possible

You dont even have to watch or read whatever it is they took the time to share because they thought it might provide you with some enjoyment. In order to avoid arousing suspicion with an unrealistically prompt response, you should probably click the link so you can see the length of the video you were expected to sit through or how long it wouldve taken you to read the article you rapidly scrolled through instead, but thats the extent of the effort you have to exert.

Now, these scenarios feature a bit of a conundrum concerning collective obligation that economics majors such as myself instantly recognize as being a textbook example of the free-rider problem (at least I think thats what its called; I graduated with a 2.3 GPA so there is a very good chance Im wrong). The term refers to a phenomenon thats frequently observed when a group of people is given a task that can be completed by a single individual only for everyone to assume someone else will take care of it, meaning it either gets put off for longer than necessary or simply never gets done at all.

As a result, the onus is on you to pull the trigger if no one else has by the time it comes to your attention. Youll provide whoever youre responding to with some gratification at no real cost to yourself and earn the appreciation of everyone else you took the pressure off of with your reply.

If someone gets engaged, lands a promotion, has a kid, or shares any kind of news society has deemed exciting, you need to take the time to craft a thoughtful response to acknowledge it. Choosing from the lineup of default reactions isnt going to cut it here.

There is nothing I would love more than to just Emphasize! the text concerning the second promotion my friend as gotten since I became unemployed and hope he understands Im trying to say, I hate you with every fiber of my being, but I cant. We are living in a society!

A group chat is like Mecca, a psychiatrists office, and a Planet Fitness all rolled into one; its a sacred place, a safe space, and a judgment-free zone. Simply alluding to the information thats shared inside that sanctum with someone outside of it is a grave violation of trust and it should go without saying that sharing a screenshot or *gasp* allowing an outsider to scroll through a chat is grounds for immediate expulsion.

Its almost like the code inThe Matrix: the uninitiated might recognize the symbols on the screen but theyre impossible to understand unless youre privy to the code necessary to interpret what is really being said. Its easy for someone to read dozens of texts concerning scenarios where pooping in the shower is acceptable and jump to some ill-formed conclusions without being able to supplement them with years of context and inside jokes. Would some of those conclusions still be accurate nonetheless? Probably, but they dont know whichones theyd be right about which is really all that matters in the end.

Finally, if a group chat ever reaches a point where it earns the highest honor that can be bestowed upon onegetting its own nameit is your duty to never reveal the meaning behind it to any prying minds that might inquire. Not only is it like giving away the password to your secret club, its likely some obscure reference youll spend way too long explaining and theyll ultimately just awkwardly respond, Umsure? and quickly steer the conversation in another direction.

Thats basically all you have to know to hold your own in a group chat, but before we wrap this up, there is one major dark side I alluded to earlier that I feel obligated to address.

A couple of years ago, my core group of friends teamed up with some people outside of our primary chat to rent a beach house, which theyve stayed at for the past two summers. If you remember my previous article related to that topic, you know I am not the biggest fan of the beach, whichin addition to my negative bank account balanceis why Ive declined to go in on either occasion.

However, I have visited for a few days each year, which I guess made them think it would be a good idea to add me to their chat in what may have been the most misguided friendly gesture in human history. It. Is. Miserable. I have never reacted or responded. Im justthere. I normally view myself as a hybrid of the first two archetypes I outlined, but in this scenario, Im the most extreme example of the third one that youll ever encounter.

Its been especially rough this year because they all made the decision to isolate together within walking distance of the ocean, meaning I regularly get woken up by late-night texts about their drunken hijinks because Im currently living with my parents and go to bed at 10 PM because Ive found sleep is the most effective cure for my boredom.

But what am I supposed to do? Leave? Why? So they can all get the Tj Francis left the chat notification that signifies its open season for roasting me harder than they probably already have been in the actual conversations within the non-virtual group chat that is the beach house? Hardpass. Theyll also have no way of knowing why I left, which will likely lead to multiple people texting me variations of, Dude, whats the deal? Ive already made it clear how I feel about individual conversations so thats basically off the table.

So, Im stuck between a rock and a hard place. At this point, its either leave and deal with the fallout or stay in the chat and feel like a complete loser as I see them having fun and living life as I do the exact opposite. Every time I get a new notification, I debate leaving but I can never force myself to follow through thanks to my crippling fear of the unknown (yes, I have it muted, but Im not one of the lunatics who canjust go through life with red bubbles reminding me about the 37 texts and 45,689 emails Ive ignored).

I think the best solution here would be for Apple to get its shit together and allow you to disable the notification informing everyone else in the chat you abandoned that youre a spineless coward but I guess thats a bit too tall of an order for a trillion-dollar company to tackle.

I understand this is a lot of information to process, but above all, theres nothing more important than understanding your place in a chat and knowing what you bring to the table. If you can keep those unwritten rules in mind and just have some self-awareness, you should be able to avoid making any disastrous mistakes you cant recover fromunless you end up in Group Chat Jail. In that case, good fucking luck.

Five maps that show spread of Hezbollah activity – The National

Hezbollah is stockpiling weapons around the globe in preparation for a new terror offensive, a US presidential security adviser has disclosed.

The warning from Kash Patel, deputy assistant to the president for counter-terrorism at the US National Security Council, comes as a new map of the terror groups plots, financing and global reach has been released online.

The golden rule of Hezbollah, and the key to its success, was the less you know the better, said Dr Matthew Levitt, the creator of the Lebanese Hezbollah Select Worldwide Activity map.

Mr Levitt hoped the research tool, which includes almost 1,000 entries on Hezbollah's activities since the 1980s, would punch a hole in the secrecy around the terror group.

The former FBI agent and other US intelligence officials were clear that the extremists were using Europe as a centre to raise funds and recruits for its political wing and the war in Syria.

The section with the most recent entries is the "Finance and Logistics" tab, which highlights fund-raising reports in European countries including Germany, Austria, Belgium and the Balkan states.

It appears that the cash is coming from many varied and lucrative operations, nearly all of them criminal.

They range from stolen cars, sometimes packed with drugs from South America, to money laundering and false charity donations.

The cash is needed to fund Hezbollahs political wing in Lebanon and the comfortable lifestyle of its senior commanders, who have shown an ability to become rich at the end of a gun.

What also becomes clear from the map is Hezbollahs global reach, potentially through the Lebanese diaspora that extends from Chile in South America to Angola and Ethiopia, and on to China, Japan and Australia.

Mr Levitt has unravelled a well-structured organisation that permeates the criminal world while hiding in plain sight.

He has now created a tool that will allow government agencies, journalists and politicians to view, at a couple of clicks, the extent of the organisation.

The map also establishes that for now, at least, Hezbollah has set aside its bombings, hijackings and kidnappings outside the Middle East for a bigger cash prize to be had in Europe.

With the continuing war in Syria, it can still answer the military urge of younger supporters by sending them off to battle but it is the smart business model that is paying dividends.

Washington is clearly irritated that only Britain among major European powers has fully proscribed Hezbollah as a terror group.

Its view is that continental Europe has allowed itself to become a comfortable place to raise funds, which is possibly why, as the map shows, there has been little military activity there in recent years.

Hezbollah chiefs are reluctant to kill the golden goose.

This is what frustrates advisers such as Mr Patel.

Hezbollah is actively plotting and stockpiling weapons for terrorist attacks around the world, including in Europe, he said at the map launch.

Only Kosovo has followed Britains lead. Mr Patel encourages other European states to designate Hezbollah a terrorist group and shut down its terrorist activities.

With Irans funding dropping to $700 or $800 million as sanctions bite, and low oil prices and the coronavirus pandemic have an impact, now was the time to clamp down, he said.

38 Rules ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Contestants Have to Follow – GoodHousekeeping.com

Eric McCandlessGetty Images

There's something extremely entertaining about seeing Buzz Aldrin do the cha-cha and Michael Bolton dressed in ruffles and that's exactly why Dancing With the Stars has remained a staple on ABC for the past 28 seasons. But what goes into the stars getting to compete for the Mirrorball Trophy? From the grueling rehearsals to the makeup guidelines that often get pushback, we're breaking down all of the rules the Dancing With the Stars competitors have to follow.

1 of 38

You have to get an offer from the casting director.

Deena Katz works as the show's executive talent producer and her job is to seek out the most interesting stars for the show. In Hollywood, DWTS is now seen as a great career move and celebrities clamor to get cast on it. "For your marketing, for your career, this is like Willy Wonka's golden ticket," Katz told Slate.

2 of 38

You don't have to be a trending celebrity.

Sometimes the cast of DWTS reads like a crazy dinner party from a dream. That's because Katz purposefully includes a mix of celebrities from across the entire pop culture zeitgeist. She chooses nostalgia picks, people in the news, and even people who "the idea of them dancing makes you laugh," Katz told Slate.

3 of 38

Being a fan could help you get cast.

The show looks for celebrities who are fans of the show when scouting for potential contestants. This move increases the odds that the star will sign on and helps assure a good attitude during the process.

4 of 38

You aren't locked into the show after the cast reveal.

With all the fanfare that goes into announcing the DWTS cast, one would think that the contestants would be locked into an iron-clad deal by the big reveal. Nope. There are always loop holes in show business that keep stars from actually filming.

5 of 38

You can (but shouldn't!) drop out at the last minute.

"Vincent Pastore was the guy from The Sopranos and was rehearsing with Edyta Sliwinska but had heart issues, so that's when John Ratzenberger joined. And Mark McGrath dropped out and Rocco DiSpirito came in," Katz told Galmour. Producers even say some stars have kept them guessing if they were going to show until right before filming started.

6 of 38

Some stars are cast as a backup.

In the event that a celebrity contestant doesn't show up, the show usually has a backup star who can take their place. When producers were afraid Master P wasn't going to show, they had Kill Bill star David Carradine rehearsed and ready to go in a trailer on set, just in case.

7 of 38

There's no disclosed age limit.

Dancing with the Stars has never disclosed an age limit and the youngest contestant to ever compete was a 14 year old Willow Shields. ABC also produced a spin-off show, Dancing With the Stars: Juniors, for child stars and children of celebrities.

8 of 38

You're matched with a pro dancer strategically.

Ever wonder how the DWTS pairings come to be? Showrunner Rob Wade told E! News it's a simple formula, "based on height, build and personality and compatibility."

9 of 38

Producers make sure partners like each other.

After all, the stress and rigor of live ballroom dancing is enough to serve up plenty of drama for the cameras. "We don't pair people who aren't going to get on. It's too intense. It's not like The Bachelor or something, we couldn't do that," Wade told E! News. "You don't want to see two people who don't like each other."

10 of 38

Cast romances are encouraged.

Romances between contestants are a big topic of debate on DWTS and producers love them, because they help generate buzz for the show. While a host of legitimate relationships have come out of the reality show, most of the flings fade with the spotlight.

11 of 38

You don't get to choose your dancing partner.

"There are some celebs that have wishes, and we always say we can't guarantee," Katz told Glamour. In the end though, the producers have the final say.

12 of 38

Dancers don't get to choose their star either.

Although fans think they've spotted trends in partners why are Mark Ballas's partners always young? the professional dancers have no input on who they compete with.

13 of 38

Producers choose the music for the dances.

According to Kym Johnson, the dancers are allowed to suggest songs at the beginning of the season, but since there are so many pairs to coordinate performances with, producers take the lead on deciding who will dance to what.

14 of 38

You can't choose the theme either.

Whether it's cha-cha night or all about Disney, the teams don't pick the themes and they vary from season to season.

15 of 38

If you're part of the cast, you'll get paid.

16 of 38

You can compete for bonus payments.

How do stars make more than their $125,000 signing bonus? Their paycheck increases the more they advance on the show, with finalists earning up to $50,000 for the final two episodes. This creates an incentive to keep stars committed to the competition.

17 of 38

Dancers don't get paid as much as the stars.

It's been reported that the professional dancers make close to $5,200 per episode, which adds up to about $100,000 per season.

18 of 38

You have to practice seven days a week.

DWTS has a reputation for having a demanding rehearsal schedule and, according to former Olympian Amy Purdy, there are "no days off." Celebrities meet and rehearse with their partner every day to prepare for the Monday night live show.

19 of 38

You have to use the show's hair and makeup teams.

The show receives a lot of pushback on this rule. "Women have had this fear about [wanting] to have their own hair and makeup artists, but you can't have that here. Our team is award-winning and fantastic. Kirstie Alley had a really hard time with it and really fought it. Now Kirstie uses our makeup artist for her. I get that fear, but they just have to take a leap with all of it. We promise they're going to look great," Katz told Glamour.

20 of 38

Contestants have to get spray tans every week.

The show's rumored "Spray Tan Sundays" are all too real, as the show's head makeup artist, Courtney Zena Shteysel, revealed. Each contestant gets bronzed from head to toe once a week in preparation for taping.

21 of 38

The same rule applies to wardrobe.

The wardrobe team is award-winning and is specially versed in ballroom dancing costumes. Because of this, the show insists that all wardrobe decisions are made by their team.

22 of 38

You have to be flexible with wardrobe.

Former dancing pro Tony Dovolani says that costumes usually aren't finished until an hour before the show. "People don't get to wear their costumes until dress rehearsal," Tony told Glamour. "There are alterations being made from dress rehearsal until the live show."

23 of 38

You have to arrive early the morning of the live show.

24 of 38

The dress rehearsal is mandatory.

This is when producers and the show's director make sure that the show is mapped out the way they want.

25 of 38

Producers can change anything in a performance.

During the dress rehearsal, producers and the director have control over the performance and are allowed to tweak any aspect of it, which could mean anything from wardrobe to lighting changes.

26 of 38

Celebrities are expected to contribute to the choreography.

While the pro dancers take the lead, celebrities aren't just along for the ride. Both team members are expected to contribute which often ends up being a great source of drama on the show.

27 of 38

For the group number, stars don't get a say.

The group opening number that fans have come to love is choreographed by an on-staff head choreographer. Contestants don't have any say in the creative direction for this dance and are required to participate each week.

28 of 38

You have to give an interview after every performance.

As soon as the team steps off of the dance floor, they're thrown in front of the camera for an interview. While it may be a welcome distraction for some of the stars, as they wait for their scores to be determined, it's also necessary for the show to get their reactions to their performance.

29 of 38

Producers have control over the storylines.

Although some claim that the show is faked or fixed by producers, showrunner Rob Wade insists that they merely follow emerging storylines that develop from the contestants. To do this, producers keep a close eye on whats going on with each team and build on any potential drama.

30 of 38

You have to be willing to share on camera.

The show's producers told Glamour that there's a lot that doesn't make it onto TV, but the stars opening up to viewers is one of the key parts of the show. "You have to open yourself up to the process. Seeing Maks [Chmerkovskiy] at his most vulnerable with Meryl [Davis] made people want to see his journey," executive producer Joe Sungkur said.

The key foundations of an effective Cloud Operating Model – Techerati

Cloud principles and goals must be served by an architecture intended to innovate on the organisations needs and continuously deliver on its long-term goals.Richard Simon, co-founder, MultiCloud Global

The first era of cloud computing has been over for some time now, so what are you still doing lifting and shifting your data centre into the cloud?

Today, organisations moving to the cloud must do more than merely copy and paste what they have in the data centre, directly into a cloud environment. Organisations should look at delivering IT as a service to the business and/or their customers, rather than as a technology platform, where applications reside.

When it comes to building a dynamic, scalable and iterative Cloud-Native architecture, organisations must bear in mind four factors: Networking, Security, Provisioning and Operations. These are fundamentally affected when moving to the cloud and thus have an impact on everything else that relies on them.

In this article, I will be discussing two of the four factors Networking and Security as these are core to achieving a Cloud-Native backbone design that determines how everything else behaves. Ill summarise the main differences that organisations need to consider when it comes to delivering applications running on a cloud platform, in contrast with heritage environments.

Organisations are now right smack in the middle of digital transformation programmes of varying shapes and sizes. And if they werent, the Covid-19 crisis has certainly forced those plans to kick-start sooner or be accelerated, as workforces entered into the lockdown state of having to work from home.

These DX efforts while positively aimed at delivering value and innovation more quickly and at scale translate into a huge headache for IT organisations, as they try to shift from being a cost centre and into a business enabler: trying to become part of the solution, not the problem.

In order to achieve a faster Time-to-Value, organisations have started looking towards cloud computing (Im using this term to represent a general and broad spectrum of activities), with various degrees of success and delivering on all the promises of cloud that were touted at the beginning of this new era.

I have worked with customers that are at various stages of this left-to-right shift. Some have jumped into the cloud for all the wrong reasons (the boss said so, to save costs and so on) and effectively, brought all the mistakes they made in the data centre with them!

Others have managed modest success only, hitting the brick wall of workload migration. While others still have established a beachhead in the cloud but not innovated further by taking advantage of the latest cloud concepts such as Containers, Orchestration, Analytics (AI/ML), DevOps, Microservices, Serverless and Observability (mainly due to poor cloud architecture).

The shift to cloud means organisations need to break out of the addictive cycle of buying dedicated infrastructure and perpetual software licenses that inhibit (some might say, dictate) the level of innovation that an organisation can experiment with and utilise, not to mention the pace, to achieve business goals.

An organisations IT strategy and enterprise architecture must be rebuilt with a foundation that delivers innovation not just for today and tomorrow, but for the next 5 to 10 years. An architecture based on a Cloud Operating Model must be at the heart of such a strategy in order to cater for both existing and new Cloud-Native services.

Let us now examine two factors of that foundation:

In the data centre, we are used to taking care of servers, which need a great deal of feeding and watering in order to survive and overcome problems. We tend to treat our servers as pets that need constant care. Data centres use domains, static IP addresses and hostnames for servers to resolve how to locate resources and applications the equivalent of looking up a number in a phone book.

In a cloud environment, theres no focus on host servers, as such the aim shifts to what service is being offered by the host instead, bringing it all back to the application. Technically, this is backed up by a dynamic approach to IP addresses, logical segmentation of connectivity and a Service Registry which provides a catalogue of the services available in the cloud, to both users and other applications.

If an application requires a database, it makes this request to the Service Registry and this then puts the application in touch with a database service, changing the emphasis from the host to the service.

The data centre adopts a castle and moat approach to security implementation using firewalls for perimeter protection and the likes of directory services for app-to-app authentication to achieve a high trust environment.

This is mainly delivered by services such as Active Directory/LDAP, Service Accounts (usually embedded inside applications somewhere) and passwords that never expire, probably exposed by being placed inside a plain text or configuration file. This type of security usually leads to some very non-standard and downright insecure practices, when it comes to dealing with credentials.

On the other hand, cloud automatically assumes a Zero Trust environment and short-lived Identity and Access Management (IAM) issued by a Secrets Manager as an independent source of authority in order to maintain greater security by introducing a central and dynamic issuer of authentication (AuthN) and authorisation (AuthZ), to reduce exposure from misconfiguration and deliberate hacking. A Secrets Manager can also handle encryption requirements for data (both at rest and in-flight), as well as offering backwards compatibility with directory services.

Looking forwards, cloud principles and goals must be served by an architecture that is intended to innovate on the organisations needs and continuously deliver on its long-term goals. To move to the cloud, IT departments need to deliver a comprehensive and innovative Cloud Operating Model that will help the business maintain its current operations, as well as provide a platform for innovation and agility, to meet tomorrows demands.

Without good design and governance of the factors discussed in this article, its difficult to achieve success in a cloud environment. While some modest goals can be attained, these would only yield short-term gains and at the expense of future-proofing ones cloud footprint and ambitions.

In a future article, I aim to provide a further breakdown of the remaining factors of Provisioning and Operations to help clarify why these are also perceived as a crucial part of the Cloud Operating Model.

Online Casino Table Games – Are They Better Than Land-Based Games – BestUSCasinos.org

Land-based casinos have been offering table games for centuries. Baccarat, blackjack, craps, roulette, and Three-Card Poker are among the most popular table games today.

You used to have to visit a brick and mortar casino to enjoy these games. Nowadays, though, you can play them in online casinos as well.

Of course, land-based casinos hold a decided advantage in the atmosphere department. They give you the chance to visit a gambling establishment and socialize with your friends and other players.

However, online casinos also boast notable advantages when it comes to table games. Below, you can see seven reasons why online table games are superior to their land-based counterparts.

Some casino games, such as baccarat, feature uniform rules that dont change from one casino to the next. Therefore, you dont gain any advantage by switching casinos.

Other games, however, feature varying rules depending upon where you play. Blackjack and roulette are perfect examples of this.

Real money blackjack rules differ wildly from casino to casino. One establishment may only pay 6:5 on natural blackjacks, while another delivers 3:2 payouts (lowers house edge by 1.39%).

Roulette, meanwhile, comes in different variations that have an impact on the house edge. You stand a far better chance of winning with European Roulette (2.70% house edge) versus the American version (5.26%).

Both brick and mortar and online casinos can offer favorable blackjack and roulette rules. But youre more likely to find player-friendly rules at gaming sites.

European Roulette is the standard in online casinos. At land-based establishments, you never know whether youll find a European or American wheel.

3:2 natural payouts and other desirable rules are the norm in online blackjack. Many brick and mortar venues, in contrast, slip in 6:5 natural payouts and other rules that benefit themselves.

You should always look at the info screen when playing an internet table game just to ensure that the rules are favorable. But on average, youll benefit from better rules online.

Return to player (RTP) refers to how much money you can expect to win back from casino games on average. If a game offers 99% RTP, for instance, then youll win back $99 for every $100 wagered.

Better rules help raise the RTP for any game. Blackjack payback, for example, can range from 98% to 99.5% (or better) with the best rules in place.

Meanwhile, you can look forward to 97.3% RTP with European Roulette. Contrast this to the much-less desirable 94.74% payback with American Roulette.

Again, nothing prevents brick and mortar casinos from offering the top blackjack rules and more favorable roulette variations. But youre more likely to find the best variants and highest RTP online.

You used to be able to find $5 gambling tables throughout Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and other major casino destinations. Nowadays, casinos act like theyre offering a huge deal when they do provide $5 tables.

Common minimum bets range between $10 and $25 per hand/round. Sure, you win back a lot of your wagers through games like baccarat and blackjack. But you could be hurting if you go on a cold streak with $25 wagers.

I dont blame land-based casinos for requiring larger minimum bets. They have more overhead costs than gaming sites due to the dealers, utility bills, and necessary equipment.

The fact of the matter is, though, that you can play at internet casinos for much cheaper. Most table games only require a $1 minimum bet.

You can sit at cyber blackjack or baccarat tables for hours with a relatively small bankroll. Heres an example to illustrate this point:

Of course, you may feel like betting more so that you can potentially win more. But you also have the option to play for cheap as well.

You may see the social environment of a brick and mortar casino as one of the main benefits of playing live. On the other hand, you do need to travel to enjoy this advantage.

This aspect might not be such a big barrier if you live down the road from the casino. But if you have to drive or fly to the nearest gambling destination, then youll be facing a major inconvenience.

Internet casinos are the complete opposite in this regard. You can play table games online virtually anywhere via your smartphone or tablet.

The only things that you need are a working internet connection and a device. Provided you have these, youll be able to play baccarat, craps, Caribbean Stud, or virtually anything else on the go.

Mobile gaming is perfect for when you want to log a quick gambling session on the couch or out and about. You dont have to fly, drive, or worry about parking garages when playing on your smartphone.

Table games present an intimidating environment for new gamblers. They feature specific rules and, in some cases, etiquette.

You definitely dont want to start out with something like craps if youre new to gambling. After all, craps features many different bets and superstitions.

For example, youre not supposed to say seven at the table. You also dont want to touch a hot shooter unless your goal is to anger other players at the table.

A more general piece of etiquette is to act in a timely manner no matter what game youre playing. The dealer and other gamblers will become annoyed if you take a minute on every decision.

Luckily, you dont have to worry about time constraints, etiquette, or complex rules with online table games. You can take all the time you need to master everything at internet casinos.

Assume, for example, that youre new to blackjack and want to learn the proper strategy. You can use a strategy chart and refer to it as long as you want to for every decision.

You could theoretically review your chart every time in a land-based casino. Again, though, the dealer and fellow players will become annoyed if you do so.

Real money online casinos offer large deposit bonuses as a means of encouraging you to join. These deals are based on a match percentage of your deposit amount.

Slots bonuses are the most common at gaming sites. However, you can also find table game bonuses in many cases as well.

Heres an example of one of these offers:

Of course, you dont get to cash out the $250 right away. You need to satisfy terms and conditions before doing so.

Playthrough (a.k.a. rollover) is one of the most important terms. It refers to a multiple of the bonus amount that you must wager before withdrawing the money.

Heres an example:

You can see that many wagers are required before youre able to earn a table game bonus. But the key is that you at least have a chance to earn serious bonus funds.

Land-based casinos dont offer any such thing as a deposit bonus. Instead, they only give you loyalty rewards.

Many casinos give you free drinks when you gamble long enough. But they stop the comps here until you actually join the players club.

Many new gamblers dont realize that they need to sign up for the players club before getting serious rewards. They miss out on extra benefits as a result.

Fortunately, you dont have to worry about this at online casinos. The average gaming site automatically enrolls you in their VIP program after you complete registration. Therefore, you immediately begin earning loyalty rewards on real-money bets.

Most casinos feature a website page dedicated to loyalty program information. You could refer to these pages to figure out how many points youll get for each table game.

In any case, youre going to collect rewards right away. You can exchange these points for cashback, free slots spins, and more.

You may opt to play table games in brick and mortar casinos for the social element. Land-based establishments give you the opportunity to gamble amongst friends and others.

However, online table games feature several big advantages. They offer better rules, higher RTP, lower minimum bets, convenience, and big bonuses.

You dont have to leave the house to enjoy online table games and their many benefits. Instead, you can enjoy all of their perks through your smartphone.

The one thing that internet table games are missing is the social aspect. But if youre just in the mood to gamble alone, then you cant do any better than an online casino.

Online Teen Patti – The Basics – Techstory

Undeniably one of the more popular games played by the Indian audience, Teen Patti is by far and away a game that has adapted well to the online, virtual format.

A great Indian alternative to more traditional card-based offerings such as poker and blackjack, Online Teen Patti is easy to pick up and long been a staple among avid players. Whether it be free, or real money Teen Patti, it is a great way to link up online for a game with friends.

The Basics

The Teen Patti game is a simplified variation of the popular game of poker. Often a mainstay in Indian households, the game is a familiar sight for many. However, for those of us looking to get in on the action, its an easy game to grasp.

Played with a standard 52-card deck, and without the use of jokers, the game usually involves 3 to 6 players, each dealt 3 cards. Players then begin to bet, based on their chances of winning, dependent on their cards. Much like poker, the winner is usually decided based in whether they carry a set (three cards of the same kind), pure or straight sequence, flush (cards of the same suit), or pairs.

An ante, or forced bet is decided before the game in order to ensure that a player loses money in case he/she repeatedly folds each round. Players may also be blind or seen players depending on whether or not they are aware of their own cards. This also dictates the minimum amounts required to be bet by players in order for them to stay in the round, which me be equivalent to, two times, or four times the stake amount.

The game continue until only two players remain, or all other players fold, at which point the player with the highest ranking cards, or the last player remaining, wins, respectively. An easy game to dive into, with the possibility of large pay outs, its easy to see why this game has gained popularity.

Getting Started Online

You would be hard-pressed to find an online casino not offering some form of a Teen Patti online game. Whether it be live tables, or gambling softwares, it is a staple on most popular websites. However, it is important to deal with operators boasting a solid reputation for fairness, safety and security. 22Bet is one such popular title offering trusted gambling services perfect for a sporting Teen Patti game.

Games may either be played live, or virtually. Whereas the live format allows the player to interact with real-life dealers situated in special studios, streaming in real time, the virtual format relies on a fraud-free software capable of randomly generating cards on a virtual 2D or 3D table. Both formats allow you to play along with friends who can join the same lobby, or try your luck with gamers from across the globe

Whether youre an amateur looking for a fun way to pass the time, or a seasoned veteran, theres a range of lobbies to choose from, all offering an attention grabbing game of luck and skill thats sure to scratch your gambling itch.

Opinion: Resolving the Depths of Conflict Through Art – Laguna Beach Local News – Laguna Beach Independent Newspaper

We are at the extremities now. At the end of this tunnel of darkness, however, there is invariably a light, which we already divine, and for which we have only to fight to ensure its coming. All of us, among the ruins, are preparing a renaissance beyond the limits of nihilism.

Albert Camus, The Rebel

We are in the midst of a cultural revolution. On the one hand, we have the neo-fascist movement, telling us we need to return to a mythical past. That things were better then. And to ram home their point, a militarized response to peaceful protests is beginning to look more like Nazi Germany than America.

Of course there are plenty of marauders foisting chaos and vandalism upon the movement, and it sadly trivializes and obscures whats actually going on.

Black Lives Matter is an easily digestible, three-word assertion that has spread around the world. But its become so much more. Its a movement of awakened youth who are facing a nihilistic future of despots, science and climate deniers, health crises, discrimination, seismic wage discrepancies, and a ruthlessly oppressive and individualistic winner-take-all economy. Yes, capitalism has failed them.

How will we resolve these depths of conflict and misery? The same way theyve been conquered for years. Through art. Through a full-throated renaissance of ideas that unite us in the power of brotherhood, sisterhood, equality and love. As the philosopher Herbert Marcuse wrote, In its refusal to accept as final the limitations imposed upon freedom and happiness by society, in its refusal to forget what can be, lies the critical function of the artist.

It was Emerson and Thoreau who first refused to accept slavery and American Imperialism. It was Mark Twains The Gilded Age that predated Teddy Roosevelts attack on the plutocrats. It was Picassos Guernica that expressed the horror of war. And it was Bebop music and beat poetry of the 1950s that led to Bob Dylan and the Civil Rights movement.

Which brings me to the rather milquetoast state of art in Laguna, where saying pretty much nothing is the norm. Take the recent $100,000 grant money allocated by the Arts Commission, where $1,000-8,000 will be awarded to resident artists to create artworks for the benefit, enjoyment and economic revitalization of the community. A noble cause under the title Fostering Creativity in a Time of Crisis.

One would think this was an ideal forum to express a personal vision to reflect back what is happening around us through an artists lens. In fact, Arts Commission Chair Adam Schwerner states in a video, We have an opportunity to be brave, think creatively and do what we do best. But apparently, what we do best is pretty pictures of marine life and landscapes.

Artist Jorg Dubin, who has spent his working life here and has created a multitude of political art (including his last city commission, the award winning 9/11 memorial Semper Memento which was installed in Heisler Park in 2011), was specifically asked to submit something, Anyone who knows Jorg knows he will not shy away from controversy, as he sternly believes that is the role of the artist.

Jorg came back with a sculptured steel silhouette of a man kneeling while a police officer lunges at him with a nightstick and another cop stands by passively. Does that make Jorg anti-police? Of course not. This is the guy who did a portrait of fallen officer Jon Coutchie and donated it to the Laguna PD.

The Commission rejected Jorgs submission, without offering an explanation.

They then asked for another submission, and while irked, Jorg complied, this time sending in a silhouette of five people of all colors from black to white, kneeling with their fists in the air. A striking expression of the solidarity happening everywhere around us. Except here. Rejected, without explanation.

Who are these judges and why are they engaging in censorship? At a time when so many cities are emboldened to stencil giant Black Lives Matter on their streets, we dont have the will to allow one of our most esteemed artists to express his point of view in a temporary installation? Its antithetical to a community that was built on the back of subversive artists who stepped out of the Festival of Arts to create the Sawdust Festival.

The Arts Commission should be ashamed that they are perverting the unique power of art and the role it plays in society. Dont be afraid of the future, commissioners. Embrace it. With real art.

Charen: Whos really burning things down? – Brownwood Bulletin

My friend David French, one of the most admirable voices in America today, argues that conservatives need not vote against Republican senate candidates in order to send a message about Trumpism. I disagree. He writes, "A rage, fury, and a 'burn it all down' mentality is one of the maladies that brought us to the present moment."

This assumes that the reason some plan to evict Republican senators is simply a matter of anger. But voting against a candidate or even a whole party is not nihilism. It's the legal, Constitutional way to express approval or disapproval. The current Republican Party has chosen to become the burn-it-all-down party. The most demoralizing aspect of the past four years has not been that a boob conman was elected president but that one of the two great political parties surrendered to him utterly.

It's certainly true that Republicans perceived their options to be limited. If they speak up, they say, they will flush their careers down the drain. Look at what happened to Jeff Flake, Mark Sanford and Bob Corker!

But this overstates things. A number of Republicans have stood up to Trump and maintained their electoral viability -- especially when they challenged him on matters in which he has shown little interest, namely public policy. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., for example, voted against the president's USMCA trade agreement and (gasp) wrote an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal explaining his reasoning.

When the president abruptly announced, following a phone call with Turkish leader Recep Erdogan, that he was withdrawing American troops forthwith from Syria, a number of Republicans voiced horror. Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., said it would lead to a "slaughter." Sen. Ted Cruz said it would be "DISGRACEFUL." Rep. Liz Cheney called it a "catastrophic mistake that puts our gains against ISIS at risk and threatens America's national security." Senators Lindsay Graham, R-S.C., Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Mitt Romney, R-Utah, Marco Rubio, R-Fla., former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and others weighed in as well.

When the president suggested lifting sanctions on Russia, Senator Rob Portman, R-Ohio, said it would be "horrible" for the United States.

So, it is possible to speak up about this president and survive. I use that word advisedly, because these Republican officeholders often use words like "kill" or "destroy" or "annihilate" when contemplating what Trump would do to them if they raise their heads too far above the parapet. In fact, all that actually threatened them was the possibility of nasty tweets and the chance that they might lose their seats.

David is right that very few people in any walk of life display courage on anything, though craven Republicans holding House and Senate posts might want to pause from time to time to contemplate the extraordinary valor of protesters in Hong Kong, Iran and Egypt who continue to put their freedom and sometimes their lives at risk by taking to the streets. And should being an elected official really be one's "life work"?

Republicans have criticized the president on policy matters, sometimes even harshly. Where they have shrunk into their shells was on matters that are even more critical to the health of our republic. They have, by their silence, given assent to his cruelty, his assaults on truth, his dangerous flirtations with political violence and his consistent demolition of institutions.

Institutions are like scaffolding. When a society's institutions are weakened, the whole edifice can come crashing down.

Donald Trump undermined the institution of the free press, urging his followers to disbelieve everything except what came from the leader. He weakened respect for law enforcement and the courts, suggesting that he was the victim of a "deep state" and that "so-called judges" need not be respected. He scorned allies and toadied to dictators. He has cast doubt on the integrity of elections. He ran the executive branch like a gangster, demanding personal loyalty and abusing officials such as the hapless Jeff Sessions, who merely followed ethics rules. He ignored the law to get his way on the border wall. He violated the most sacred norms of a multiethnic society by encouraging racial hatred. He made the U.S. guilty of separating babies from their mothers.

Elected officials, terrified of their own constituents, have cowered and temporized in the face of a truly unprecedented assault on democratic values. They believed that they were powerless and acted accordingly. Since they were powerless when it counted, perhaps we should make it official?

The Blind Oracle of Noonan – The Bulwark

Good news! All of us who are worried about President Trump and the future of the Republican party can pack it up. Peggy Noonan, our cherished Reaganic oracle, has spoken and has the answer to align the Always Trump, Sometimes Trump, and Never Trump factions of the GOP.

In her latest Wall Street Journal column, Noonan enters the Burn It Down debate and argues against voting out all the Trump enablers and sycophants becauseare you ready for this?persuasion will be key to saving the Republic. Ah! We can all rest easy, pour ourselves a cool beverage, and retire early. Our work is done! Praise be to Peggy!

Thats the kind of wistful, head-in-the-clouds analysis Noonan is known for, though. Like, wouldnt everything be better if everyone just played along more nicely? Why all this anger toward a president who lets Russia put bounties on the heads of our soldiers, tear-gases peaceful protesters, and lies and obstructs justice as a way of life? Why on earth should Susan Collins, Martha McSally, and Cory Gardner be sacrificed on the altar of Trump just to prove a point about accountability? Because follow-the-leader Republicans like Collins will surely be the ones to save us from another trillion in deficit spending and finally stop funding for Planned Parenthood! Because Collins, of all people, must have learned lessons from Trump. We should all be so, so very concerned about the future of the GOP without Republicans like Collins.

Noonan concedes that Donald Trump is burning himself down. Yet she thinks we ought to keep voting for the people who handed him a lighter and kerosene.

No thank you. Noonan, however, is free to throw herself on the Trump dumpster pyre. She says Never Trumpers are bloody-minded and encouraging nihilism, but what she proposes is politically suicidal.

Noonan says Never Trumpers should not engage in pyromaniac fantasies but constructive modesty, even humility. More nave, high-minded divinity from the Temple Noonan. Constructive modesty sounds not like a political path to the future but like shapewear for the prudish soul. Maybe she has clothing on the brain. In May, Noonan was busy worrying how the pandemic would influence our outfit choices. (How is that for a priority?) God save me from her sermons because there are no yoga pants comfortable enough to get me to find my humility and prostrate myself before our grab em by the pussy president. Lets pray for those who do.

Noonan sees fashion as a leading indicator of a nations mood. Well, if thats the case, tell me what kind of fashion statement face masks on children make. Because, thanks to our incompetent president, my kids will be wearing one for eight hours a day if they are lucky enough to leave the house and attend school this fall.

Not that going to school will actually happen, or socializing normally will return anytime soon. Trump promised if he was president wed all be able to say Merry Christmas again! Probably not in person to friends and family this year, though. All because too few Republicans could bring themselves to tell Trump last spring that no, coronavirus is nothing like the flu.

Still, Peggy wants me to be more docile and polite while my family shelters in place for the next however many months as President Trump golfs his time away and the GOP lets him do it.

Noonan says that part of Trumps momentary genius in 2016 was that he uniquely spoke to the anxieties of Americans about illegal immigration. Is that what the great Reagan speechwriter thinks about Trumps announcement speech that said Mexico is bringing rapists to America? Genius?

Never Trumpers cant find the pity in their hearts Noonan has for Trump, who came up against his own perfect storm with the pandemic, the lousy economy, and violence in the streets. As if he were a passive observer in his presidency. Oh, what to do!

When the Trump experience is over, the Republican Party will have to be rebuilt, Noonan prophesies. (Duh.) A lot is going to have to be rethought. Simple human persuasion will be key. And then she tries to persuade her readers that we Never Trumpers are really the problem. Never Trumpers never seem to judge themselves, she complains, never once pausing to consider why its okay for her write things like Trump is weak, unserious and avoidant of the big issues while she remains weak, unserious and avoidant of the big issue of how to go about restoring the kind of strong Republican leadership she pines for.

Noonan is too timid to admit that the dismal Trump experience will not end unless some Republicans screw up the nerve to forcefully close the curtains on it. Otherwise, Donald Trump Jr. and a QAnon Congress will carry forth the freak flag of conservatism. Is that what she wants? Because Trump is never going to go gently into the night as a good loser president should. The Trump experience doesnt end unless Never Trumpers finish him Mortal Kombat style.

With all evidence against her, Noonan thinks Trumpism will disappear if Never Trumpers just shut up. Mr. Trump has been very publicly doing himself in, mismanaging his crisessetting himself on fire, she writes. As long as thats clear, his supporters wont be able to say, if he loses, that he was a champion of the people who was betrayed by the party elites, the Never Trumpers and the deep state: He didnt lose, he was the victim of treachery.

As if Trump depicting himself as a victim would be any different than any other day of his presidency. Nobody likes me, he whined last week. Who are the Never Trumpers to disagree?

Noonan tries her best to avoid overtly positioning herself as yet another MAGA enabler, but thats what her column implicitly amounts to.

She squints at Trump through a self-imposed gauzy blindfold instead of looking at him head-on. Noonan imagines another time when Republicans had civil intra-party debates about policy and not the possible psychopathy of the commander-in-chief and those who seek to make his manic authoritarian dreams come true.

She doesnt want Never Trumpers making noise because their critiques will be unhelpful for Republicans, and bad for the country, if thats the background music of the party the next 10 years.

As if Noonan hasnt been dancing to her own outdated tune for decades. Yet, she sings on and on about her unrealistic, nostalgic views on politics from deep inside her walk-in closet of memories from the 1980s.

Enough already.

I, for one, am pressing the mute button on her. While Im at it, someone pass me a match.

Be Wary Of This Cyberpunk 2077 Scam Pokde.Net – Pokde.Net

I probably say this for most of us gamers out there, we simply cant wait for Cyberpunk 2077 to come out since its been delayed not only once but twice already. Well it seems that some people are taking advantage of gamers who simply cant wait for the game.

The games developer, CD Projekt Red has noticed that theres been emails been sent around that invites you to play the beta version of Cyberpunk 2077. They have quickly deny that the email has been sent by CD Projekt Red themselves.

1/2 If you recently receivedan email claiming to be granting you beta access to Cyberpunk 2077, it's not from us. Unfortunately, there have been more of these being sent out over the past few weeks. When we contact you via email, it'll always come from@ cdprojektred com address

If youve got your hands on the email, its most likely a phishing scam done by irresponsible people. They likely want you to bait you into clicking the link thats supposedly registers you for the beta of the game to breach your security. Needless to say, youd be best to avoid clicking it.

CD Projekt Red has said that there will be no demo or beta whatsoever for Cyberpunk 2077 so you can guarantee that it is a fake email.
