I am not voting just for a person, I am voting to uphold the Constitution. I am voting for the Second Amendment. I am voting to save all the unborn children. Abortion is premeditated murder.

Im voting for the freedom of religion, Im voting for our brothersin blue.

Without them this country would be lawless and you see whats happening in the streets now.

The Labor Day Weekend isnt just the unofficial end of the summer, its also the unofficial beginning of the campaign season. And that can mean only one thing: a lot more television commercials that have candidates either touting themselves or denouncing their opponents, or both. The campaign committee for Republican Lauren Boebert announced last month that it was expanding its television ad buys, although it didnt say how much it was spending. The only thing her campaign said was that more ads would come as fundraising allowed. Campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Communications Commission dont offer many answers just because the latest filings dont include anything past the end of June, when party primaries were held. Still, Boeberts opponent, Diane Mitsch Bush announced just last week that her campaign planned to spend a whopping $1.8 million in television ads that would start this month in four major markets in the district, including Grand Junction, Durango and Pueblo. Those ads are expected to focus on such things as public lands, health care and the economy. I have heard from Coloradans across this district about the need to lower skyrocketing health care costs, protect people with pre-existing conditions, defend our public lands and create an economy that works for everyone, Mitsch Bush said. Our campaign has grassroots support across all 29 counties in this district, and were doing it all without taking a single penny from corporate PACs. I am going to spend the next two months earning every single vote. Mitsch Bushs ads also are likely to tout some major national support her campaign has recently received, but its unknown if that will mean more campaign donations or third-party ads touting her candidacy. Last week, two major national campaign efforts have announced plans to help her, including EMILYs List, a Democratic political action committee. Open Forum: Kennedy will focus on community – The Winchester Star

The position of Board Supervisor for which I am running requires full attention to the interests of the people who live in the Shawnee District of Frederick County. This will be my highest priority in serving this community. Ive been asked if I will favor any particular interest, group, or organization. I will not. Rather, I will exercise my voice and my vote in the manner of fair application in the proper execution of current regulations. If there are proposed changes to existing regulations, I will seek public input, review all available information, and consider all sides of the issue before voting. Managing the budget process is a key responsibility in this role, and with my financial background, I will take a conservative approach to spending meaning that there cannot be spending without an appropriate, compensating level of revenue.

Together, we will provide a promising future for our children and their children, but this cannot happen without a vision. I am committed to hearing your voices to help shape that vision, through open forums and meetings. Together, we will ensure economic dignity for families by growing our current businesses and bringing in new businesses that provide higher-paying jobs, consistent with the culture of the community. Together, we will ensure the high quality of education that our children deserve by providing a learning environment that is innovative for our students and attractive for our teachers and staff. Together, we will ensure an infrastructure with sufficient housing for our families, a county-wide broadband capability that serves all, healthcare that is affordable and accessible to all, and better transportation with I-81 and mass transportation improvements.

The current reality is that we are under a tremendous health, economic and social crisis with COVID-19, and we must follow guidelines that will protect everyone until a vaccine has been applied to our population. This means that we must work together, now more than ever, in order to get through this crisis. We cannot let favoritism or prejudices hold sway in determining the right actions in restoring our businesses, our schools, our churches, and our families to good health.

No, I have not mentioned other hot button topics such as the protests and riots, the Second Amendment, immigration, racial justice and equality. We are all entitled to our opinions on these and other issues, but we must focus on the issues that directly impact the quality of life in our community rather than inflame and divide us.

The stated mission of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors is Ensuring the quality of life of all Frederick County citizens by preserving the past and planning for the future through sound fiscal management. This will be my commitment if the voters of Shawnee District see fit to elect me to the board.

I have always loved the Kings Indian. My trainers, Ion Solonar and Vyacheslav Chebanenko, taught me to play it with Black, and also showed me how play the Kings Indian setup with an extra tempo. An important extra tempo: Black plays the Kings Indian Defence, White plays the Kings Indian Attack! This opening was also a favourite of chess legend and 11th World Champion Bobby Fischer, who is known for his aggressive play and his wish to win every game. With the Kings Indian Attack he scored 8out of 9, creating a number of fine modelgames that teach us how to attack with the setup.

The Kings Indian Attack is mainly reached via the French Defence (1.e4 e6 2.d3) and the Sicilian with 2e6, but it can also arise from the Reti Opening, when Black plays e6 and d5 to reach structures from the Queens Gambit Declined. Thirty years ago the Kings Indian Attack was considered to be an interesting and original way to avoid theoretical battles. But todays theory sees the Kings Indian Attack in line with the modern approach to postpone the fight for the centre to the middlegame. The Kings Indian Attack is full of positional and tactical ideas and is often an unpleasant surprise for the opponent. The opening is easy to prepare but its important to remember that the Kings Indian Attack is more about ideas and plans and less about forced and complicated lines. Since my junior days it has been a reliable weapon and it still serves me well today.

With this DVD I also want to express my gratitude to Fischer: for his great contribution to chess in general and because he helped to make the Kings Indian more popular in particular. As a junior, when I was ten years old, my coach advised me to study the openings of Fischer and I discovered the Kings Indian. Later I learned about the different approaches Black has in the Kings Indian. He can keep his structure flexible and put his pawns on d6 and c6; he can play the sharp and principled Nc6 in the classical lines and in some sidelines he can sacrifice a pawn with b5 as in the Benko.

That was recognized even by Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov who for years had the Kings Indian opening in their repertoire, but did not employ it in their WCh matches. Ron Paul: The Fed’s Brilliant Plan? More Inflation And Higher Prices – OpEd – Eurasia Review

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell recently announced that the Fed is abandoning inflation targeting where the Fed aims to maintain a price inflation rate of up to two percent. Instead, the Fed will allow inflation to remain above two percent to balance out periods of lower inflation. Powells announcement is not a radical shift in policy. It is an acknowledgment that the Fed is unlikely to reverse course and stop increasing the money supply anytime soon.

Following the 2008 market meltdown, the Fed embarked on an unprecedented money-creation binge. The result was historically low interest rates and an explosion of debt. Today total household debt and business debt are each over 16 trillion dollars. Of course, the biggest debtor is the federal government.

The explosion of debt puts pressure on the Fed to keep increasing the money supply in order to maintain low interest rates. An increase in rates to anything close to what they would be in a free market could make it impossible for consumers, businesses, and (especially) the federal government to manage their debt. This would create a major economic crisis.

The Fed has also dramatically expanded its balance sheet since 2008 via multiple rounds of quantitative easing. According to Bloomberg, the Fed is now the worlds largest investor and holds about one-third of all bonds backed by US home mortgages.

Congress has expanded the Feds portfolio by giving the central bank authority to make trillions of dollars of payments to business as well as to state and local governments in order to help the economy recover from the unnecessary and destructive lockdowns.

Contrary to what most mainstream economists claim, a general increase in prices is an effect not a cause of inflation. Inflation occurs whenever the central bank creates money. Increasing the money supply lowers interest rates, which are the price of money, distorting the market and creating a bubble (or bubbles) that provides the illusion of prosperity. The illusion lasts until the inevitable crash. Since the distortions come from money creation, the system cannot be fixed by just requiring the Fed to adopt a rules-based monetary policy.

Once the lockdowns end, the Feds actions may lead to a short-term boom. However, the long-term effect will be even more debt, continued erosion of the average Americans standard of living, and the collapse of the fiat money system and the welfare-warfare state. The crisis will likely be brought on by a rejection of the dollars reserve currency status. This will be supported both by concerns about the stability of the US economy and resentment over Americas hyper-interventionist foreign policy.

The question is not if the current system will end. The question is how it will end.

If the end comes via a meltdown, the result will likely be chaos, violence, and increased support for authoritarian movements as desperate people trade their few remaining liberties in hopes of gaining security.

However, if pro-liberty Americans are able to force Congress to begin cutting spending starting with the money wasted on militarism and to move toward restoring a sound and sane monetary policy that includes ending the Federal Reserve, we can minimize an economic crisis and begin restoring limited constitutional government, a free-market economy, and respect for liberty.

Sparks Mayor Ron Smith dies after battle with pancreatic cancer – Sparks Tribune

City of Sparks Mayor Ron Smith passed away on Friday, August 21, following his two-year battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 71.

As a Sparks resident for more than 35 years, Smith had a visible passion for his community, eventually running for (and winning) a Sparks City Council seat in the 2006 election representing constituents in Ward 3. Smith served three more consecutive four-year terms as city councilman as well as became Mayor Pro Tempore during the years 2012-2018.

During his tenure with the City of Sparks, Smith was involved in dozens of projects and sat on a number of local and regional boards, but is most known for: his role with the Regional Transportation Commission in strongly advocating for improving transportation and infrastructure needs to accommodate the Citys growth; serving as chairman of the Truckee River Flood Mitigation Authority; and he was instrumental in directing the Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza Project at the Sparks Marina.

As a veteran himself, Ron was extremely passionate about this project, says Sparks City Councilman Kristopher Dahir, adding that it was extremely important to Smith to ensure that the 900-plus Nevada veterans who died fighting for the country were properly honored and that future generations knew of the sacrifices which allowed us our freedoms.

His friendship meant a lot to me. In the beginning of my career with City Council he was my mentor. He was in it for so long, he gave back so much to the community. He was a man of integrity and honest about what he believed. He always said, the best thing about me is youll always know what I think and the worst thing about me is youll always know what I think, Dahir fondly recalls.

I really loved working with him on projects like the Sparks Marina Veterans Memorial and traveling with him to Washington D.C. (as part of the Nevada League of Cities to represent Sparks on a federal and legislative level). Those trips were really fun, Dahir adds.

He admits that they didnt always agree with Smith on everything, but he appreciated his honesty and firm beliefs. Dahir was fortunate to have been able to have dinner with Smith and his wife Karen at Red Hawk Golf and Resort just a few weeks ago, laughing and listening to music as they talked about the city that Smith loved.

He worked hard on the Veterans Memorial, and citywide making sure our river is clean and ready for our citizens to enjoy. He was also very involved with the RTC and worked hard on a few dreams that I hope I can help come to fruition, Dahir says.

His biggest hope was that we have a safe city. Ron was a big supporter of the police, fire department, and security of our community. In the last two years he had chemotherapy every week and would have to recover, and then hed get right back out there to work on projects that improved the city. He fought until the end with his family around him- they were the most important thing to him. He said his family was his biggest treasure, including his nine grandchildren, he says.

Along with being involved with progressing the future of Sparks, Smith is also remembered as having a sense of humor.

He definitely enjoyed his Chik-fil-A coffees, Dahir smiles.

Sparks City Councilmember Donald Abbott says that he met Smith a bit later in his career when he was a city councilman even though for many of his friends Smith was their first boss at Scolaris.

Its been nice seeing all the lives he impacted, from being the manager of Scolaris to his work with the Sparks City Council. One of my fondest memories of him is- and he did this all the time- is that when someone would ask him to do something crazy, hed nod his head up and down and say Absolutely no. That always got a good laugh out of me. I also heard a story that when he was the manager of Scolaris he pranked his receptionist by having her call a tow truck to get out of the parking lot that was her own car, laughs Abbott.

He was silly, but he also knew when to be serious. He just had fun. He was a normal human being who was the same person in the office as he was off-hours, Abbott adds.

Abbott also credits Smith to being his mentor as well in the beginning of his own political career.

He was the first person I ever went door knocking with, it was nice to campaign with him and have someone believe in me who wasnt my mother, he chuckles. Ron loved his community, loved his family, loved the Giants, and he was always helping others. He definitely will be missed, Abbott says.

Personally, when I think about my interactions with Ron Smith over the last four years, the first two words that come to mind are that hes passionate and transparent. He always had a respectful demeanor towards me and answered my calls (even during that year when I continuously grilled him about the state of D Andrea). He never failed to tell me exactly how he felt and went out of his way to greet me at city council meetings and give me the information I needed. He lifted those around him up and gave them the strength to reach their potential, and for that he will never forgotten.

Mayor Smith also led the community effort to build a Veterans memorial, which is now under construction at the Sparks Marina, in tribute to all Nevada Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. To honor his memory and his contributions, it is up to the rest of us to carry on his legacy of caring and visionary leadership, stewardship, and public service. Rumor had it that the boss found a new gig, playing any of her variety of wind instruments every other Saturday on the stoop of Sacred Heart Church in St. Paul, which basically has three addresses, Ron Ryan Jr. Boulevard, Sinnen Street and, most conventionally, 840 E. Sixth St., as in the heart of the East Side.

In the summer of 2020, when it feels like the soul has left the body of the nation and charred is the new urban motif, it seemed important to check on the boss, to not lose sight of the goodness still around us in small but important ways, and the good people who devote their lives to the service of others.

The boss waved as I walked across the parking lot. She was dressed for the chill of a brilliant morning that was sending out an unmistakable warning about autumn. Not far away was Sister Jean Ersfeld, working the keyboard on her 465 Sound ToneBank Casio electric piano. Lets call it serenading. The nature of Sacred Heart has changed with the times and is now most significantly home to a large Hispanic community. It was a food pickup last Saturday morning, and a line of cars drove past the open end of a big rental truck and people were taking dairy and produce and dry goods. Food. Not quite water turned to wine, but close enough if the kids are hungry.

Who qualifies? I asked the boss.

No questions asked, the boss said.

I looked up at the words engraved in granite on the front of the church.

Does Iglesia Del Sagrado Corazon mean Sacred Heart?

I hope so, the boss said.

Her name is Lynore Girmscheid. She and Sister Jean are members of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, my favorite order of nuns, not counting the Daughters of Charity, because they featured that heavily starched cornette that suggested they were wearing a fixed wing for takeoff. The SSND rose in the rankings after a couple of SSND stalwarts wrote to me wondering if the Crabby Coffee Shop was real. Sister Jean is the musical director at Sacred Heart. When Jerry Lowe, a deacon at Sacred Heart and a connected fellow with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, organized the food made available with the help of Target and Costco and others, Sister Jean thought she and Lynore might spice it up with a little salsa and a hymn or two if they were lively enough.

Times are tough around here, Lowe, who is 84, told me. We do what we can do. Every other week, we do the same service at Incarnation Church in Minneapolis.

The musicians, of course, dont charge a cent. They take the edge off what might be a burdensome errand for those in need and introduce a note of festivity. The pickup runs from 8 to 10 a.m., and people can check their bulletins for the schedule.

I can call Lynore boss with accuracy. For years, she was the liturgical director at Lumen Christi in Highland Park and for reasons that still baffle me, I ended up on her decorating crew as hard labor. I hauled wreathes up from the storage tunnels under the church, moved ladders around and fed spools of lights to a guy actually on the ladder. She was a good boss and often sprung us laborers early so we wouldnt miss the kickoff.

The boss has always been the inclusive type and wanted me to meet Prisciliano Maya, who is the Spanish Mass minister. Thats what she does. She works the room and gets to know people. If I hadnt brushed off college-level Spanish so many years ago, I could have had a chat with Prisciliano.

That vast asphalt parking lot now humming with graciousness? On Aug. 26, 1994, St. Paul police officer Ron Ryan Jr. responded to a man sleeping in a car in the same Sacred Heart parking lot. As Ryan approached the car, Guy Harvey Baker shot Ryan dead and then stole the officers gun. A few hours later, the same guy killed officer Timothy Jones and his police canine, Laser. A dark, dark day. It was everybody on deck at the Pioneer Press. I hadnt been back since.

You know about the parking lot, boss?

I know, she said. I know.

And then she returned to her music. Its what she has to give.

The Social Cost Of COVID-19 – The ASEAN Post

In 1960, the Nobel laureate economist Ronald H Coase introduced the problem of social cost: human activities often have negative externalities, so individual rights cannot be absolute. Institutions must intervene. There is no better example of this dynamic than the COVID-19 crisis. While virtually every country has suffered as a result of the pandemic, some have done much better than others.

Whereas some have reduced COVID-19 cases to near zero, others have had steadily climbing infection and death rates for months. As McKinsey & Company has noted, economic activity associated with discretionary mobility has returned to normal for the former group. Among the latter, such activity remains about 40 percent below the pre-pandemic level.

Not everyone is suffering equally. Low-paid workers with inferior access to medical care and less opportunity to stay home say, because their jobs are classified as essential are bearing the clinical and economic brunt of the crisis.

This puts everyone at risk. After all, even if a country contains the first wave of COVID-19 infections, it will remain vulnerable, as the virus continues to be imported from worse-performing countries. In other words, the social costs of inadequate institutional arrangements in some countries are spilling over to those with well-functioning institutions.

The first step toward addressing this problem is to identify which institutional arrangements are most effective for reducing the social costs of the COVID-19 crisis. This is not, as one might assume, just a matter of having strong institutions. The United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK) are institutionally robust, and both had weeks, if not months, to prepare before their outbreaks began, but both have had among the worlds highest infection and mortality rates.

By contrast, East Asian countries were the first to be infected, meaning they had little, if any, time to prepare. And yet many of them are among the countries that have reduced COVID-19 cases to near zero. The difference comes down to attitudes: what role and responsibilities each society attributes to government, and to what extent it expects the community to act as a collective agent of the common good.

In the US, there is a long-standing emphasis on personal freedom. Small government is a commonly heard refrain, with many arguing that individuals acting as self-interested participants in markets and in social and political processes will naturally produce positive outcomes. Government intervention even in the event of a pandemic infringes on individual rights and, indeed, on the very meaning of being an American. Protests over shelter-in-place orders and mask mandates reflect this view.

This is very different from the prevailing mindset in East Asia. For example, many Western observers have attributed Chinas success in containing COVID-19 to its authoritarian regime, which supposedly infringed on individual freedoms, privacy, and economic efficiency in a way no democratic government ever could.

Coases theory shows why that logic is flawed. As he explains, the market may be able to minimise social costs if all actors have full information and face near-zero transaction costs. But those conditions are unrealistic even in normal times.

During a pandemic, no individual can possibly receive comprehensive and current information on the virus. In fact, the very existence of asymptomatic carriers precludes the possibility of full information. And, because the transaction costs of mask wearing, quarantining, testing, and contact tracing are high, making compliance a matter of individual choice will never be enough to contain the virus.

But Soviet-style centralised intervention is not feasible: agents of the state cannot observe every move every person makes and enforce every precautionary behaviour at all times. And, contrary to popular belief, that is not what China has done. Instead, recognising that fully voluntary action was inadequate, the state provided comprehensive and mandatory rules to facilitate individual and communal compliance, as well as fiscal and logistical support for implementation.

To illustrate, upon arriving in Shenzhen from Hong Kong, one of us headed to a designated hotel equipped with medical staff conducting tests and monitoring temperatures for a 14-day mandatory quarantine. On the way to the hotel, both the landlord and a community contact person got in touch, having been informed by the authorities to prepare for a new arrival from abroad.

From the airport to the quarantine hotel to home, every single individual immigration officers, bus drivers, security screeners, medical personnel, and hotel staff wore full personal protective equipment (PPE). Common areas were regularly disinfected. The state provided all needed resources.

Of course, a traveller would prefer to go home, rather than stay in a quarantine hotel for two weeks. But ostensibly high compliance costs for individuals do not outweigh the overall social costs of partial interventions. So, with institutional support and clear guidance delivered via many channels, including social media people have taken the necessary precautions. Responsibility for implementation has also been clearly delineated across government agencies.

The results sharply reduced COVID-19 infections and deaths speak for themselves. Other East Asian countries such as Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam have achieved similar success, using very similar institutional approaches. In every case, the government intervened early, devised comprehensive rules and guidance, and provided the resources needed to apply relevant measures. And in every case, society was receptive to government intervention aimed at advancing the common good.

Crucially, these countries have very different cultures and political systems. Attempts to turn an effective institutional response to the pandemic into a political or ideological battleground are thus misguided, at best. The Coasian lesson is that, regardless of ideology or politics, each society must develop institutional arrangements that minimise social costs. After all, those suffering the consequences of others decisions are unlikely to revel in their freedom.

It all started on Friday, September 6, 1946 at 5.00 p.m in Palm Court, Albert Crescent, Colombo. A Tamil member of the State Council, S. Natesan, proposed that a new political party be formed and that it be named United National Party (UNP). A Muslim member of the State Council, T. B. Jayah, seconded the proposal, thus laying the foundation of a party which manifestly stood for national integration.

United thats what the UNP used to be in its heyday, when it was the ruling party from 1947 to 1956; from 1965 to 1970; from 1977 to 1994; from 2001 to 2004 and finally, from 2015 to 2020. In total, the UNP had governed Sri Lanka for 36 out of the 72 years since independence in 1948.The Party had control of the Executive Presidency (EP) for 16 years from EPs institution in 1978 to 1994.

What made the UNP such a powerful and durable party? The answer lay in its having sound leadership and people-centric policies. From the time of Prime Minister D. S. Senanayake up to President Ranasinghe Premadasa, apart from representing the business community, the UNPs leadership had adopted people-oriented policies on agriculture, power-generation and infrastructure development. It opened up the economy, thereby putting an end to excruciating and artificial shortages of articles of common use. It launched the Swarnabhoomi land grants program, and theMahapola educational scheme. It set up two universities (the Ruhuna and Eastern). It fulfilled the Million Houses Program, launched the Gam Udawa Janasaviya, and the 200 garments factories program. It also decentralized the administration, which appealed to the masses, especially at the grassroots level.

Getting on to the Ranil Wickremesinghe era, from 1994 2001, the UNP was in the opposition. Wickremesinghe was a relatively young politician with pro-West views and a penchant for neo-liberal economic policies. But what he sorely lacked was the common touch and an understanding of the needs of the hoi polloi. However, he had a rare political skill which enabled him to keep the UNP under his thumb even in adversity. He remains the leader of the UNP even when it has been reduced to a rump, as indeed it is now.

By 2001 Sri Lanka was facing the worst economic downturn since independence, brought about both by the badly going war against the LTTE and gross governmental mismanagement. The GDP had shrunk by 2.5% and the growth rate was negative. Not surprisingly, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP)-led government fell in 2001 because of the defection of disgruntled people from its ranks. In the ensuing elections the UNP-led coalition won and Wickremesinghe became Prime Minister. The UNP fought on a platform of peace with the LTTE so that economic development could be pursued, a cause which had the peoples support.

Wickremasinghe became the Prime Minister for the second time (the first time being in 1993-94) and began a cohabitation arrangement with President Kumaratunga who belonged to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP). Two months into his Premiership, Wickremesinghe signed a controversial ceasefire agreement with the LTTE. The agreement was followed by intense peace negotiations to find a solution to the ethnic conflict. But President Chandrika Kumaratunga believed that there had been a sell out to the LTTE which resulted in her taking over some key ministries which in a way crippled the Wickremesinghe government. But more on that later.

With ceasefire in place, the UNP-led government maintained strict fiscal discipline and market-friendly policies, which led to a resurgence in the economy, large-scale investments, and rapid economic growth. The government created key economic institutions such as the Board of Investment, the Ministry of Small and Rural enterprise and the Information Communication Technology Agency. Economic growth continued to accelerate, reaching almost 6% at the end of 2003, while inflation was at less than 2%, an all-time low. Many local and foreign experts believed that Sri Lanka was poised to reach double-digit economic growth within a few years.

So, what went wrong for the UNP? Although peace reigned and the economy grew, the ceasefire agreement with the LTTE was not popular and more importantly did not have the support of President Kumaratunga who, took over some key ministries to cripple the UNP government. Given the nationalistic wave Kumaratunga created along with her alliance with the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), her United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) won the 2004 elections, throwing the UNP again into the limbo.

In the Presidential election of 2005, the UPFAs new candidate, the then Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa, beat Wickremesinghe, though the latter performed reasonably well by bagging 48.43% of the vote. However, it is widely believed that if not for the boycott of the polls in the North and parts of the East, due to LTTEs intimidation, Wickramesinghe would have won. Nevertheless, it must be acknowledged, that Wickremesinghehad lost much support among the Sinhalese majority because of his dalliance with the dreaded LTTE.

The second reason for his downfall was his penchant for supporting friends even when these friendships were costing him public support. In 2001, a friend, Arjuna Mahendran, was appointed Chairman and Director-General of the Board of Investment, where his conduct was reportedly controversial. He was to come back as Central Bank Governor in 2015 only to indulge in the US$ 11 million bonds scam.

After winning the 30-year-old war against LTTE in 2009, President Rajapaksa called for an early Presidential Election in 2010. The UNP and JVP backedGen (Rtd).Sarath Fonseka. This was the first time UNP had backed a non-UNP member for President. Though Fonseka was a formidable challenger as a war hero, Rajapaksa won with 57.88% of the popular vote. In April, Rajapaksa called for parliamentary elections which the UPFA won, bagging 144 seats while UNP-led United National Front (UNF) bagged only 60. Rajapaksa was still seen as the war winner and his charisma was infectious.

Puffed up with pride, President Rajapaksa, called for an early election in 2015 to seek a third term, not knowing that his corruption and misrule had dented his image greatly. The UNP and several other parties backed the rebellious SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena. Sirisena emerged victorious with 51.28% of the popular vote, in an election which saw a record turnout of 81.52%. Immediately afterSirisena was sworn in, Wickremesinghe was sworn in as Prime Minister for the third time in his political career.

Being Sirisenas main prop, the UNP took 70% of the ministerial posts. Wickremesinghe felt free to pamper his buddies and cohorts with plum positions in the cabinet and other semi-government organizations.Charitha Ratwattes brother Suren Ratwatte was appointed CEO of Sri Lankan Airlines. Towards the end of Ratwattes 6 months probation, when the Board failed to unanimously agree to confirm him, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe pushed for his confirmation. The same year, Wickremesinghes other buddy, Malik Samarawickrama, was appointed to Parliament on the National List. Later he became the Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade and Chairman of the UNP.

In 2015, Arjuna Mahendran was appointed the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka without the consent of President Maithripala Sirisena. And as pointed out earlier, during Mahendrans tenure, a financial laundering scam took place in the CBSL which caused an estimated loss of more than US$11 million to the nation.

On 20 August 2015, the major political parties UNP and Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) signed an MOU to form a National Government for at least two years to resolve serious issues in the island. On 3 September 2015, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe presented a motion to exceed the limit imposed on the number of cabinet and non-cabinet ministers. According to the 19 th.Amendment, the cabinet cannot exceed 30 ministers. But in the event of the formation of a National Government,the number could go up. Parliament approved the increase of Cabinet Ministers to 48 and non-cabinet ministers to 45.

On 9 September 2015, President Sirisena and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe formed a National Government with a total of 46 Cabinet Ministers, 19 State Ministers and 22 Deputy Ministers.This was the first time in Sri Lankas post-independence history that two major parties had formed a National Unity Government.

However, partly because of personality differences between Sirisena and Wickremesinghe and partly due to the contradictory provisions of the 19 th.Amendment, the government became dysfunctional. This state was on public display when, despite the availability of accurate intelligence from India, the government could not prevent the multiple bombings carried out by Islamic terrorists on Easter Sunday in 2019.

Prior to that, in 2018, the UNP had suffered a crushing defeat in the 2018 local bodies elections. It was able to secure only 34 councils out of 340, while Mahinda Rajapaksas proxy the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) won 231 councils. The SLPP got 44.65% and the UNP 32.63% of the votes.

Because of its failure to address the concerns of the people and its failure to win elections, the party was in turmoil with many calling for Wickremesinghes ouster. Eventually, Wickremesinghe was forced to give up his ambition of standing for the Presidential election again. He agreed to support Sajith Premadasa, the partys Deputy Leader. But the SLPPs Gotabaya Rajapaksa won the election with 52.25% of the votes and Sajith got 41.99%.

The defeat led to a formal split in the UNP with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) emerging as a separate outfit under Sajith Premadasa. The UNP and the SJB fought the August 2020 parliamentary elections separately. The split was one of the factors which helped the SLPP win 150 seats out of 225. The SJB got 54 and the UNP none.

The UNP had suffered its worst-ever defeat in its history, receiving only 249,435 votes, which was 2.15% of the valid votes cast. For the first time in its history, it had failed to win a single seat in parliament. It got a National List seat though thanks to the Proportional Representation System. Clearly, Wickremesinghe had made a grievous mistake by not giving the leadership to Sajith and cooperating with him at the appropriate time.

So what ailed the UNP?Leave alone disunity at national level, the party old guard did not want to give way to the young. The leadership was more intent on helping and safeguarding its friends and political cohorts interests than in meeting the needs of the people and the party cadres.

I am in no doubt that the founder members of the Grand Old Partymust be turning in their graves. It is amazing that even with the party in ruins, Wickremesinghe is refusing to vacate the leadership. The fact that the few leaders still left in the UNP have not been unable to oust him and elect a new leader shows that disunity still plagues the party. A party which was led by stalwarts like D.S. Senanayake, Dudley Senanayake and R.Premadasa is now nothing but a coterie of Lilliputians.

However, the UNP, as an ideology, cannot be written off as its voter base is not inconsiderable. In the 2018 local bodies elections, it got 32.63% while the SLPP got 44.65%. In the November 2019 Presidential election, it got 41.99%. And in the August 2020 parliamentary elections, the SJB, which is but an offshoot of the UNP, got nearly 24%. Therefore, what theUNP got was a drubbing and not annihilation. If the UNP/SJBs constituency is consolidated by the emergence of a suitable mass leader, it can be revived.

Alternatively, the SJB can be deemed to be an incarnation of the old UNP and built up as such, just as the SLPP has emerged as the new incarnation of the SLFP and is building itself up under the Rajapaksas. There is light at the end of the tunnel for UNP supporters.

2020 could be the year of ‘peak Democrat’ in Colorado. This is why. – Colorado Springs Gazette

Growing up in Alabama in the Southern Baptist church, Pamla May Sterner recalled being a Republican by default.

Thats what was preached from the pulpit, the values that supposedly the Republican platform entailed, she said. You really just didnt give it any second thought.

Sterner and her husband worked as evangelists, casting votes for local Democratic candidates here and there but always backing the Republican in the presidential election.

We would have never voted for a Democrat as president, because presidents do choose different judges they are going to appoint. Obviously, judges are the ones who would hear Roe v. Wade should it ever be overturned, said the 63-year-old resident of Pueblo, referring to the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision establishing a constitutional right to abortion. For that reason, we just werent going to deviate from the Republican Party at all.

Today, however, Sterner is a Democrat. She voted for Barack Obama in 2008. She went to work for Democratic former U.S. Rep. John Salazar as a Republican. After Salazar was unseated in 2010, she said she officially changed her voter registration. Sterner no longer votes for GOP candidates.

After the 2016 election, truthfully, I cried, she remembered. I kept trying to understand why this hit me so hard, and I think the reason why it did wasnt just that Donald Trump got elected. It told me the American people dont care about women. The American people dont care about people that are handicapped. The American people dont care about people that do others wrong.

Heading into the 2020 election, Colorados Democrats have put significant distance between themselves and the states minority party during the Trump years. Democrats hold four of the states seven U.S. House seats. Likewise for 60 of the 100 General Assembly seats. Democrats are also in all five statewide executive positions. That includes the Secretary of States Office, to which voters, by some quirk, had not elected a Democrat since 1958.

Not only is the party working to preserve its gains, it may have room still to grow: contesting a Republican-held state Senate seat in Adams County, a state House seat in Littleton, the U.S. Senate seat held by Cory Gardner, and even the 3rd Congressional District, which Salazar was the last Democrat to occupy 10 years ago.

Multiple people with a history of political involvement in Colorado tend to agree on the main factors for the states leftward shift. Colorado has grown in population, and the demographic change has benefited Democrats. Voters have soured on GOP officeholders while at the same time adopting more conservative stances on issues of taxation and revenue.

And the COVID-19 pandemic has underscored a desire for competent governance a feature that may again favor Democrats this year as more than 1,000 Americans per day die of the disease during a Republican presidential administration.

I think were going to be in a recovery for maybe 10 years, said Rosemary Rodriguez, a former Denver city councilwoman and state director for U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet. So I think whichever party has the best ideas about how to recover are going to be our future leaders.

Between 2010 and 2019, Colorado added approximately 730,000 residents. An analysis from Westword found that those over age 44 comprised a slightly larger chunk of the population in 2018 than at the last census, contrary to the perception that young people moving in are responsible for the increase.

The liberal shift is not because we have an army of Californians living and voting here, said David Flaherty, the CEO of the surveying firm Magellan Strategies. Flaherty used to work for the Republican National Committee, and said that unaffiliated voters have grown in importance as they have grown in proportion to other voters.

Unaffiliateds have said, Im not in love with the Democrats and I will consider the alternatives, but I dont like the (Republican) choices youve given me, he said.

In all but the 2nd and 3rd congressional districts, the number of active, unaffiliated voters has doubled between 2012 and 2020. In the 6th Congressional District, which U.S. Rep. Jason Crow flipped in 2018 after defeating the Republican incumbent, the number of active, registered Republicans barely increased over eight years relative to the growth of the district overall.

Even in the 5th Congressional District, which encompasses El Paso County, unaffiliateds grew at five times the rate of Republicans. Some people pointed to the conservative stronghold as a potential swing county someday one that can follow the statewide results in presidential or gubernatorial elections.

Although younger, unaffiliated voters and people of color may have their influence ticking upward, Sterner, the Pueblo voter, advised against discounting older party-switchers like herself.

As theyre seeing whats going on, I think youd be missing the boat if you didnt think there were quite a few older Republicans saying, I dont think this is for me, she said.

A difference on the issues

In the summer of 2019, conservative activists attempted to recall a string of Democratic lawmakers and Gov. Jared Polis. Among other reasons, they pointed to the majority partys passage of a red flag law. Officially known as extreme risk protection orders, 70% of Americans in a 2019 poll support the ability for courts to temporarily remove firearms from someone judged a danger to themselves or others.

John Straayer, a professor of political science at Colorado State University, pointed to the disconnect between the issues that conservatives publicize and the actual interests of voters.

The advertised agenda of the Republican Party, he said, is guns, vaccines, same-sex marriage. These are prominent and visible agenda items for a big chunk of the Republican Party. More so than funding education, straightening out our tangled up fiscal policy, making sure that our infrastructure is taken care of.

Flaherty said that half of the Republican primary electorate in the state is older than 65, meaning that candidates will need to appeal to a voting bloc whose priorities are slightly different than the state as a whole. Immigration, crime, safety, freedom and pro-life policies are among the common concerns.

Unaffiliated voters dont care about four out of five of those issues, whatsoever, he said.

Dorothy Gotlieb, the chairwoman of the Arapahoe County Republican Party, dismissed the notion that it was the states Republicans, and not its Democrats, who entrenched themselves in extreme positions.

Each party has its opinionated people who will not necessarily move away from their position, she said. If the issue is education funding, if the issue is transportation, most Republicans will look at a rational way to increase that funding.

Increases in tax rates require a vote of the people under the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights, a constraint that still enjoys considerable public support. However, even as the people have shown a preference for Democrats, they routinely reject statewide requests for more revenue.

The dichotomy between votes for candidates and votes for issues can extend beyond purely fiscal matters. In 2016, the same year voters sided with Hillary Clinton, they also rejected a proposal to create a Medicare for All-style program at the state level. To the inverse, the same year voters first elected Gardner to the Senate, they also shot down an anti-abortion constitutional amendment to give personhood to fetuses.

There was plenty of player movement this weekend as NFL teams cut their rosters down to 53-man squads. The fallout huge fantasy football implications, as certain players fantasy football outlooks have been upended with moves to new environments or additional volume coming available.

Recall last season, when LeSean McCoys release during final roster cuts opened the door for Devin Singletary. In Week 1, he led the Buffalo Bills in snaps, ranked fifth in the league in routes run among running backs and finished as RB15.

The following is a rundown of all the players impacted by final roster cuts, with updated evaluations to consider for draft strategy and lineup construction for Week 1.

Defenses might struggle with tackling (lack of padded practices) and Gibson forced a missed tackle on essentially half of his touches in 2019. And lets not forget the last time a rookie running back forced a team to part ways with Peterson *whispers* Alvin Kamara.

It didnt take long for Peterson to find a new home; he signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions Sunday morning, further muddling a backfield already home to both Kerryon Johnson and rookie DAndre Swift. This cant be a good sign for Swift, who has missed significant time in training camp due to a lower leg injury.

Johnson still figures to be the starting back come Week 1, but his draft capital takes a massive hit with the Peterson news, and he's not a running back you will be looking to start come Week 1 against the Chicago Bears.

The Bears will have a healthy Akiem Hicks on the defensive line, which is not good news for the Lions ground game. With Hicks playing last season, the Bears PFF run-defense grade (82.8) ranked fifth in the NFL.

Swifts RB23 ADP is a way too high. I have both Johnson and Swift ranked outside of the top-95 players, and I would still only feel comfortable drafting them if I could get them from Round 10 on.

And say what you want about Petersons age, but the man is durable his 499 touches over the past two seasons ranks 10th at the position. If injuries plague Johnson once again, Peterson will be the locked-and-loaded early-down back more than worth a selection in the 16th round.

None of the recently releasedPhiladelphia Eagles running backs were likely to be fantasy forces in 2020 (Elijah Holyfield, Adrian Killins Jr., Michael Warren), but their departure is a clear indicator that the team is not concerned about Miles Sanders injury.

He should be good to go Week 1 against the Washington Football Team and should smash in the plus matchup. Love him in DFS for Week 1.

The signing of Leonard Fournette was a tell-tale sign that somebody was going to get the boot in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers backfield. Pass-catching specialist Dare Ogunbowale got the short end of the stick, confirming LeSean McCoys role on the offense as a change-of-pace and third-down running back.

Ogunbowales departure does vacate seven carries inside the 5-yard line from last season, which could further bolster Ronald Jones opportunities near the goal-line. Based on his solid performance last season as a runner inside the 10-yard line, it is RoJos job to lose as the goal-line back in the offense.

The Los Angeles Rams released fourth-string and 2018 sixth-round running back John Kelly in favor of keeping 2020 undrafted rookie Xavier Jones out of SMU. Kelly was thought to be in the running back mix after receiving praise from head coach Sean McVay earlier this summer, but not even the coachs words could save his job.

Jones is a change-of-pace back, so even if he is active on game days in place of the currently injured Darrell Henderson, his role will be limited. For Week 1, we are going to see a two-man backfield of Cam Akers and Malcolm Brown. Reports have surfaced suggesting that Brown will be the starter.

Last season, Brown started the Rams Week 6 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers and finished the day with 11 carries for 40 yards on 67% of the offensive snaps. In that same game, Henderson had 11 carries as a backup and rushed for 49 yards with two catches for 20 yards, despite seeing just 33% of the offensive snaps.

With Brown a non-factor in the passing game, don't let this report deter you from Akers in drafts or from Week 1 starting lineups.

The Chicago Bears released running back Artavis Pierce, meaning the team is going to proceed with David Montgomery, Tarik Cohen, Ryan Nall and Cordarrelle Patterson at the RB position. Releasing Montgomery and opting to not bring in another veteran suggests the team must feel good about Montgomerys status coming back from his groin injury.

Actions speak larger than words the Las Vegas Raiders released Theo Riddick and traded Lynn Bowden Jr., meaningits wheels up for Josh Jacobs in the passing game. That's been the biggest knock on his fantasy value this summer.

There's a chance the Raiders sign the recently released Dare Ogunbowale (he visited the team on Sunday), but who knows how long it would take him to get up to speed in the offense.

The Kansas City Chiefs elected to move on from free agent signing DeAndre Washington, who was a popular candidate to be the direct backup to Clyde Edwards-Helaire. This turned out not to be the case, as the team is moving forward with Darrell Williams as the No. 2 running back. Williams needs to be drafted and owned as a priority backup across all league formats.

After cutting their roster down to 53 players, the Tennessee Titans only have two running backs on the roster: Derrick Henry and Darrynton Evans. The rookie from Appalachian State has had some struggles during training camp, but entrusting him in the No. 2 role behind King Henry is enough to make him worth a roster spot.

After releasing Lamar Miller and J.J. Taylor, the New England Patriots will enter the 2020 season with the same core as last season: Sony Michel, James White, Rex Burkhead and Damien Harris. I still think the value is with Michel because he has a chance to reclaim the starting role with Harris currently sidelined. I think we might see a completely different Michel in 2020, running with the mobile Cam Newton.

The Miami Dolphins released former first-round pickJosh Rosen, showing a vote of confidence in the health of rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the starter Week 1, but Tagovailoa will take over at some point this season.

Its not a roster cut, but its worth noting here that the Chicago Bears named Mitchell Trubisky as their starting quarterback for Week 1 over Nick Foles. From all accounts, neither quarterback was overwhelming during training camp, so it appears Trubisky earned the job by default.

He wont be a quarterback you start for Week 1 in any traditional league formats, but in two-quarterback leagues or DFS, he's going to be a viable option with a matchup against the Detroit Lions.

In Trubiskys last three starts against his NFC North rival in the Matt Nagy offense, he has averaged three passing touchdowns, 9.5 yards per attempt, 289 passing yards and earned a 90.9 PFF passing grade. That translates to 32.5 fantasy points per game when you also include Trubiskys rushing statistics.

Nobody on planet Earth is going to want to play Trubisky, so leveraging him in a GPP could be a great way to save salary and differentiate your lineup. Remember, even before Marcus Mariota was benched last season, he posted 250-plus yards and three touchdowns versus the Cleveland Browns in Week 1.

The New England Patriots released Mohamed Sanu after trading a second-round pick for the veteran before the trade deadline in 2019. This slides Damiere Byrd in as the No. 3 wide receiver option behind NKeal Harry and Julian Edelman. I'm more confident in taking Harry in the later rounds now he remains one of my favorite second-year sleepers.

The Buffalo Bills released several veteran wide receivers Robert Foster, Andre Roberts, Duke Williams which to me says a lot about how they feel about rookie wide receiver Gabriel Davis from UCF. Davis has been a standout all summer and would be an immediate target off the waiver wire should anything happen to any of the main trio of Bills starting receivers: Stefon Diggs, John Brown and Cole Beasley.

The San Francisco 49ers waived bothJauan Jennings and Kevin White great signs that Deebo Samuel (just taken off the NFI list) and Brandon Aiyuk will be available for Week 1. They are both super low on draft boards because of their injuries over the summer, so they are both values.

The Washington Football Team released slot wide receiver Trey Quinn, solidifying the top trio of receivers in the nations capital: Terry McLaurin, Dontrelle Inman and Steven Sims.

Green Bay waived several wide receivers including Jake Kumerow, Reggie Begelton and Malik Turner. This should allow Marquez Valdes-Scantling to potentially graze fantasy relevance in 2020 he's the only true speed threat the team has at WR. If we start to see him receive consistent targets, he could easily emerge as a post-hype sleeper after failing to live up to expectations in 2019. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was reported to be most impressed with him during training camp.

Adrian Peterson was a surprise cut by Washington over the weekend.

It didnt take long for the future Hall of Famer to find a new team. Per multiple reports, Peterson is set to sign with the Detroit Lions.

On paper, it seems like an odd fit considering the Lions already have Kerryon Johnson and DAndre Swift, a player they just drafted in the second round.

Peterson spent the last two seasons with Washington after a brief stint with the Saints and Cardinals. Of course, we all will remember Peterson for his time with the Vikings from 2007-2016.

Now, hell face off the Vikings twice in 2020: Nov. 8 at U.S. Bank Stadium and Jan. 3 in Detroit.

Peterson, 35, has 14,216 career rushing yards, a mark that ranks fifth in NFL history. He needs 1,054 rushing yards to pass Barry Sanders to move to fourth. Given Detroits crowded backfield, that seems extremely unlikely.

Then again, Peterson has ran for a combined 1,940 over the last two seasons with Washington.

Today (Ron) Rivera just said this is always tough, but yes were gonna release you & go with this offensive style. I respect coach. Look (Antonio) Gibson is a hell of a talent.

This system really fits him. I feel like I can do that pony style too, more as a receiving back. We were all working on it, but they really want one main guy to do it & they drafted Gibson for it. Trust me, I still have a lot in me, more to strive for & do again, Peterson told reporter Josina Anderson.

He almost immediately penned a one-year contract with Tampa Bay. Fournette had a mixed bag of results during his time in Jacksonville. National Neurotechnology Initiative Act seeks to accelerate development of new treatments for brain and nervous system conditions

SAN FRANCISCO & WASHINGTON, D.C., March 12 - A team of prominent members of both houses of Congress introduced today the National Neurotechnology Initiative (NNTI) Act, a bill designed to foster new discoveries and accelerate the development of new and safer treatments for the one in three Americans living with a brain-related illness, injury or disease.

The sponsors of the NNTI Act, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and Representatives Patrick J. Kennedy (D-RI 1st) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL 18th), have called upon Congress to reverse the growing economic burden generated by brain-related illness, which exceeds $1 trillion per year in the U.S. due to healthcare costs and lost income.

"The huge numbers speak for themselves: There are 100 million Americans suffering from a brain-related illness, with an enormous economic burden that continues to grow as the population ages," said Zack Lynch, Executive Director of the Neurotechnology Industry Organization. "For a modest investment, Congress has the opportunity to streamline research efforts, accelerate the development of new treatments, promote innovation and job creation by small businesses and have a meaningful impact on the lives of those suffering from devastating diseases and injuries."

Designed to increase private investment and accelerate the development of treatments reaching the market, the NNTI employs targeted increases in funding to improve Federal research coordination and ease bottlenecks that inhibit the development of treatments for brain-related illnesses. The bill accomplishes these goals with less than 4 percent of the total Federal neuroscience research budget - $200 million - and reflects a more balanced disease-cost to research-dollars-expended ratio.

"While our ability to understand how the brain works grows each day, our ability to understand and repair brain illnesses remains limited," said Senator Murray. "For the millions of Americans that suffer from a brain related illness, and the thousands of Americans coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan with Traumatic Brain Injury and PTSD, a new federal commitment to research and treatment can't wait. This bill will place a premium on sharing the information researchers gain everyday and will support ongoing but underfunded programs at NIH."

"With so many Americans suffering from brain-related illnesses, it is crucial for us as a society to maximize our efforts and continue learning about the many facets of the brain, leading to a healthier life for all Americans," said Congressman Patrick Kennedy.

The UK government has awarded 32m in funding to six healthcare technology projects which could be incorporated into regular NHS care by 2050.

According to the Science Minister Amanda Solloway, the projects aim to transform care in the NHS by 2050 and improve quality of life for older people.

The investments are part of the UK governments R&D Roadmap, which aims to transform the UK into a science superpower and increase public investment in R&D to 22bn by 2024-2025.

The pioneering projects we are backing today will help modernise healthcare, improving all of our lives now and into the future, she said, in a statement. Todays announcement underlines our commitment to back our incredible scientists and researchers and invest in ground-breaking research to keep the UK ahead in cutting-edge discoveries.

InlightenUS, led by the University of Edinburgh, will receive 5.4m to combine AI and infra-red lasers to provide fast, high-resolution 3D images which could be used to identify disease more quickly. By 2050, it is hoped that patients may be able to walk through airport-style X-ray scanners which will be able to pick up detailed images of internal structures to reveal the presence of cancer and osteoporosis.

The emPOWER project, led by the University of Bristol, will receive 6m to develop highly-targeted robotic muscular assistance to help restore strength to people who have lost muscle capability, including patients with degenerative diseases like muscular dystrophy.

Imperial College scientists received 5.5m to develop 'Non-Invasive Single Neuron Electrical Monitoring' technology, which will be combined with AI to allow researchers to monitor the brain in a way never achieved before. This could help scientists better understand devastating neurological diseases like Alzheimers and Parkinsons and hopefully enable new pharmacological and neurotechnology-based treatments.

Other projects include Edinburgh Napier Universitys COG-MHEAR, led by Edinburgh Napier University, to develop hearing aids designed to autonomously adapt to quality of their surroundings; the University of Glasgows project to create a home of the future, incorporating sensors to monitor blood flow, heart rate and brain function; and Heriot-Watt Universitys project to use new laser, optical fibre and imaging technologies to deliver extremely precise therapies to confined parts of the body such as the lungs (including cutting out single cancerous cells while leaving surrounding cells undamaged).

The funding is being delivered through the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Councils (EPSRC)call for 'Transformative Healthcare Technologies for 2050'.

Professor Dame Lynn Gladden, EPSRC executive chair, commented: The projects announced today will develop new approaches which could become routine in the NHS and community and home care in the coming decades. Harnessing the latest technologies and the UKs world-leading expertise will allow us to deliver a step-change in how healthcare is delivered and benefit millions of people, emphasising the critical role the UKs R&D sector plays in improving the health of the nation.
