Game of Thrones Season 4 Scoop: Who’s Playing The Red Viper?

Game of Thrones has come out with its first major casting announcement for Season 4.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Pedro Pascal - a Chilean actor who has appeared in The Good Wife and Graceland - will portray Prince Oberyn Martell next year on the HBO hit, a character known as The Red Viper who is the cunning prince of Dorne.

Look for the Viper to head to King's Landing on Season 4 for some good ol' fashioned revenge, considering his sister was among those killed by Gregor Clegane when Mad King Aerys was overthrown by Robert Baratheon and the Lannisters.

Pedro Pascal Pic

“This was a tough one,” say showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss said of the casting. “The Red Viper is sexy and charming, yet believably dangerous; intensely likable, yet driven by hate. The boys love him, the girls love him, and he loves them all back. Unless your last name is Lannister. We found a fellow who can handle the job description and make it seem effortless. He wasn’t easy to find and he won’t be easy to stop.”

Melissa George Cast in Key Good Wife Season 5 Role

It's safe to say Peter Florrick will be tested on The Good Wife Season 5.

Melissa George (Grey's Anatomy, Hunted) has landed a key role on the CBS drama, according to TV Line: the Australian actress will portray Marilyn, Governor Florrick’s in-house ethics counsel who - as you might imagine, based on her job title - is a stickler for the rules.

Might this cause a serious problem for Peter, considering what we learned about the way in which he was elected to conclude Season 4?

The Good Wife returns with new episodes on Sunday, September 29.

Jim’s Notebook: Falling Skies, New Girl and More!

It’s that time of year - and I’m not talking about the upcoming July Fourth weekend.

Comic-Con 2013 kicks off on July 18th in San Diego and while we’ve been keeping you updated on the schedules of the various networks (such as MTV) and studios (such as Warner Bros.), you’ll already want to bookmark TV Fanatic because we’ll be covering as much of the Con as we can.

In the meantime, I’m emptying out this week’s Notebook with Noah Wyle telling me about this Sunday’s high-stakes Falling Skies episode; Lamorne Morris’s hope for New Girl Season 3; and whether Royal Pains is going to go dark soon.

Jim's Notebook

NEW GIRL Though the hit Fox sitcom’s third season hasn’t started filming yet, Morris filled me in at the recent ATX TV Festival on what he’d like to see with Winston, even pitching a hot cameo for the show this fall.

“I want to see them dive more into his basketball past,” he told me. “I would love to shoot some episodes where the guys are just maybe hanging out and, like, LeBron James shows up as my former teammate, you know what I mean?”

Hopefully New Girl creator Liz Meriwether is listening because Morris also pitched the following: “Maybe Jess starts to date an NBA player and so this way we get to film some episodes at a game. That would be awesome.” He’d also like to see more of Winston’s “dumb characteristics, where it's like I don’t have a pranking sweet spot,” he said. “That's right in my wheelhouse. I love being an idiot, you know what I mean?”

FALLING SKIES In Wyle’s own words, things are going to “boil over” in this Sunday’s episode of the TNT sci-fi drama between his Tom Mason and Pope (Colin Cunningham). The two men have never been friends but they find themselves in a tough situation this week and Wyle told me about it at the recent press junket:

ROYAL PAINS With the new, noticeably darker series Graceland making waves at USA, does that mean for the more traditional ‘blue skies’ series like Royal Pains? I asked Executive Producer Andrew Lenchewski that very question recently and he’s not too concerned:

“I think what we love about the network is that as they continue to evolve who they are as a brand, they continue to encourage us to still be who we are. So, none of the things that they have told us as creative guidance from the first four seasons has changed this season. They still want us to focus on our characters, make sure we tell our medical stories, make sure that we don't depart too far from the tone of our show.”

This said, that doesn’t mean that the stories on the show won’t veer down a slightly darker, emotional path than we usual visit on the long-running series. “The storyline we’re playing with Hank,” he said, “is something that might have been tougher to swallow the first couple of seasons. I think we’re getting the best of both worlds.”

That’s a wrap for this week and I’ll be taking next week off so see ya back on July 12th! Anything else you’re dying to know about your favorite show? Leave a comment here or you email me directly at jim@jimhalterman.com. And remember: follow @TVFanatic for all your TV scoop!

ABC Orders Extra Episodes of Once Upon a Time in Wonderland

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland is off to a strong start.

Before it even premieres on ABC.

The network announced today, via Entertainment Weekly, that it has ordered additional episodes of the quasi Once Upon a Time spinoff. It's unclear at the moment just how many will air in 2013-2014, but the number will exceed 13.

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland Scene

It's confusing, but ABC is still billing Wonderland as a "limited" series, meaning this really will be the final episode order, not matter how well initial ratings come out.

“We really want to tell the story without having to worry about how to stretch it for five years,” producer Edward Kitsis tells EW, while co-creator Adam Horowitz adds: “This is not meant to be a 22-episode season. Whatever it ends up being, we’ll have told a complete story, with a beginning, middle and end.”

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland will air Thursday nights at 8 and tell the tale of Alice and a genie named Cyrus, played by Sophie Lowe and Peter Gadiot, respectively.

Pretty Little Liars Round Table: "Cat’s Cradle"

All three of our Pretty Little Liars Round Table participants this week agreed: "Cat's Cradle" could have used a bit more excitement to speed things along.

But we still managed to chat it out and would love to hear your take on what we put on this weekly table. So join staff writers Nick McHatton, Leigh Raines and myself by pulling up a virtual chair and sharing in the conversation below...

-------------------------------------------

Caleb's return: Sizzle or fizzle?

Nick: I like that he's jumping right back in, but I also got a bit of a forced vibe, as if Caleb and Hannah were merely going through the motions.

Leigh: Sizzle! Caleb always equals sizzle. He will also do anything for Hanna and even her shady mama. I love his loyalty.

Carissa: I agree with both Nick and Leigh. While I love that Caleb will do anything for his Hanna, she just didn't seem into him at all. It had been ages since they were together. Where was that spark that used to shiver me timbers?

PLL RT LOGO

It's IS summer, so let's continue the sizzle and fizzle with your take on Aria and Jake.

Nick: Well, Jake is certainly sizzling for me...but all the people on this show are gorgeous. Aria and Jake can certainly sizzle as well if given enough time. There's a definite playfulness and lightheartedness that's been missing with Aria since learning about Ezra's little boy and their subsequent breakup, so I'm ready to see that side of Aria come back out again.

Leigh: Again sizzle. But let's get real, how does Aria always find dudes with classic black and white cinematic taste? Unrealistic. Then again this is Rosewood and nothing is realistic. Jake is cute, I dig it.

Carissa: Jake is a great catch. Of course Aria could find a new hottie in less time than it takes the rest of us to dry our tears over the latest breakup. He looks young and he's cultured. He seems a perfect fit, so there will probably be a secret resting in his drawers, if Aria gets in them to find it!

Is it a great idea for Ella to be leaving town?

Nick: It's a pretty odd development for Ella and her boy to go study streusel in Vienna, but I can't blame a gal for wanting to go find love. On this one, I think it might have more to do with Ella not having much to do on the canvas right now, so she's being shipped off. For once I didn't get any A vibes on this one.

Leigh: Honestly, she probably should. The mothers of the liars are definitely not safe. The person who can best protect Aria, is Aria herself.

Carissa: If Aria is still staying with her dad, then why not? She deserves love and that dude is hot. I wouldn't pass it up, but then again my daughter isn't a constant name on the latest murder suspect list at the local police station. Toss up for me.

Where do you stand on Ashley's guilt or innocence?

Nick: It's all too neat and tidy for me. Everything is being set up so methodically and so much guilt is being plastered on Ashley's face. I think A's clear out the mommies text is more indicative of what is really happening. Feel free to split this off into a new question, Carissa - I'm starting to wonder if Mrs. D one of the many A's, but specifically targeted towards the Liars' parents. Mom vs. Mom warfare.

Leigh: Ashley's looking mighty guilty but is it ever that simple? Hanna's dad's gun is missing, the muddy Manolos, the history with Wilden...could it really just point towards the truth? Or maybe A finished off the job?

Carissa: I thought it was hilarious that her standing next to a running bath with her clothes on was supposed to make her look guilty. That's when I decided she's being framed and is scared to death - just like every other person who has been "challenged" by A has been until the get their feet wet. She's gotten her shoes wet, now it's time for the feet.

Could Toby's mom have made the jump? Did anything change your opinion about her death?

Nick: That roof was a freaking terrace! There's no way should have made that in one clean motion to the cement below. Either she had to drop a second time, or it's one giant conspiracy.

Leigh: I'm not sure why Toby's mom is suddenly part of the storyline. I really don't see why A would have an interest in that. I'll repeat what I said before, Radley is a shady sanitarium.

Carissa: I've decided to go with the theory that she was once on the Rosewood High swim team and could make a perfect dive out of the window into whatever crevice she wanted, especially if she was on painkillers similar to Emily's. Seems as good of a theory as any, especially because I think Toby is just using her death as an excuse to Spencer to cover up his dealings with A.

I always think that the most perfect human form is that of a dancer. Each muscle toned to perfection through the mastery of movement and control. That is why these photographs by New York based Nir Arieli moved me. He captures each dancer’s graceful and controlled movement, overlapping them to create a dynamic image.

Nir explains this project, titled Tension:

I can’t dance. I can’t in my room, nor in a club, let alone any kind of stage. Whenever I am forced to try, I stumble or freeze or drink enough to disappear. However, this time, for the first time, I found myself actively involved in dancing – even if by using someone else’s body.

In my project I function as a visual choreographer, making up a certain movement language that is the outcome of a verbal dialogue between the photographed dancer and I. On my part, it is a language born of a screech, it is uncomfortably beautiful.

I don’t predetermine the result – insisting on well-planned perfectness – but rather establish a strong understanding, let the dancer improvise and capture his movements. Afterwards, I experiment with layering various photos on top of each other, searching for intriguing combinations. Unlike everything I had done in the past, which was always carefully sculpted, this time I put my trust in the coincidental.

My subjects provided me with the physical intelligence. I only had vague mental images, a camera, and a long history of unused dancefloors.

LIFE magazine • December 7, 1962 - The Human Body: Part II (The Phenomenal Digestive Journey of a Sandwich)

Arthur Lidov, painter and commercial artist, created these breathtaking editorial medical illustrations. They are a true expressions of anatomy and art. From the vascular man swimming underwater amongst coral to the mountainous landscape of the digestive tract, Arthur created anatomical visualizations that were approachable and easily understood.

Largely self-taught, he specialized in scientific and medical illustration. His illustrations graced Life, Time, Fortune, The Saturday Evening Post, and more. His paintings are included in several museums, such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Gallery of Art in Washington.

A Chicago native who attended the University of Chicago, Arthur eventually moved to Manhattan to work. His neighbor happened to by Mark Rothko who became a friend despite their wildly different art styles. Arthur pronounced Mark dead after his tragic suicide in 1970.

There’s not too much information on Arthur out there. Does anyone know more about his medical illustration, training, etc?
