PBT: Concerns about Thunder's chemistry

It has been a strange thing to see barking and bickering among the tight chemistry of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Its come up every game so far this season, Darnell Maryberry of the Oklahoman described Sundays incident in a loss to the Hawks.

At the end of the first quarter, Thabo Sefolosha and Russell Westbrook had to be separated from exchanging words as they walked to the bench. It was a show of anger that surprisingly was also seen from the same two as they walked off the court at halftime Friday night.

In other moments Kevin Durant has barked at Serge Ibaka, and Kendrick Perkins and Ibaka have pointed fingers.

Its odd because it wasnt something we saw the past few years as this team made its runs, eventually all the way to the NBA finals. Not that everything was puppy dogs and rainbows around the Thunder, but there was not a lot of public tension.

This isnt just about James Harden being traded, although that certainly is part of it because it was a big change to the chemistry of the team. Harden had grown up with the Thunder. It was a blow to Durant and Westbrook.

But you can add to that change the strain of expectations. Oklahoma City is no longer the young underdogs everyone wants to see succeed they are a team that has been to the NBA finals, a team people expect to return to the biggest NBA dance and win it this time.

A team that expects itself to succeed.

All that has led to some tension, some strain on the family feelings around the team.

But dont expect this to be a long-term concern. Not with Durant and Westbrook in charge there is no doubt whose team this is (and was even before Harden was sent away). That super duo is going to figure it out, the team will get over this bump.

Coke, the boy without a brain ‘miracle life’ – Video

Coke, the boy without a brain #39;miracle life #39;
A three-year-old Colorado boy born without a brain has died after living what doctors called a miracle life. Nickolas Coke suffered from a rare condition known as anencephaly, meaning he was born with only a brain stem. While most children with this condition die shortly after their birth, Nickolas far exceeded that sentence. Surviving on little else than pain medication, Nickolas lived what his family called an incredible life. #39;He was never hooked up to any machines, no tubes, no nothing, #39; Sherri Kohut, Nickolas #39;s grandmother, told KOAA in Colorado. He taught us everything, he taught the love, how to be family. He taught us everything. #39; Kohut, who was with Nickolas when he died, said the boy stopped breathing after having difficulties doing so all morning. Medical officials attempted to revive him using CPR, but after three failed attempt, he was pronounced dead. They told us "no more, let him go", #39; Kohut said. #39;So he died at 12:40 today. Peacefully. #39; Nickolas was apparently in good spirits just days before his death. Recent photographs posted on Facebook show the boy smiling and laying in a pumpkin patch. #39;He was laughing because he thought it was funny that we couldn #39;t get him to stay still enough to roll off the pumpkins, #39; Kohut said. The family made an effort to get Nickolas out as much as possible, taking him on trips to the zoo and going camping. Anencephaly occurs in about 1 in every 10000 births, according to the National Center of Biotechnology Information ...From:BreakableVideoViews:0 0ratingsTime:01:16More inNews Politics

Advances In Ecological Research: Volume 15
ll4.me Advances In Ecological Research: Volume 15 Jarvis and McNaughton provide a cogent example of the impact of physiological studies in ecology. The study of transpiration is of basic importance in botany and their paper shows how the often conflicting conclusions reached by physiological ecologists and micrometeorologists may be reconciled. Courtney #39;s analysis of Pereid butterfly ecology looks at the various evolutionary strategies adopted by the butterflies, their food plants and their predators and parasites. Franklin and his colleagues have distilled years of research on the decomposition of woody debris into a comprehensive treatment of both the nature and importance of this process in a variety of environments. Vogt and her colleagues also deal with an aspect of decomposition, focusing instead on the importance of the death and decay of root material. Finally, Hartenstein presents a lively discussion on the serious consequences of soil organic carbon deficiency. Combining man made organic waste and earthworm based biotechnology might help in managing carbon poor soils.****FROM THE PREFACE: Over recent years physiological plant ecology has been one of the most active areas of ecological research. It offers a prospect of explaining community function in terms of how the physiological properties of individual plants relate to patterns of microclimate generated in the community itself. However, the strategies of investigation and measurement techniques of the ...From:ricardoblanca85Views:0 0ratingsTime:00:15More inPeople Blogs

Nicholls working on its chemistry

Published: Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Last Modified: Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 10:59 a.m.

Nicholls State's women's basketball coach "DoBee" Plaisance is giving her team a chemistry lesson on the court.

Nicholls State junior guard KK Babin (10) is a two-year returning starter for the Colonels and was an All-Southland Conference selection last season.

With two weeks remaining before the start of the 2012-13 college basketball season, the Colonels are preparing for their season opener at DePaul on Nov. 9.

Plaisance said implementing the new players into the system and building chemistry is the focus of her team's four-week practice schedule.

"My biggest focus (in practice) is building their confidence in each other. By that, I mean them having a better understanding of each other's game. We have to have a better understanding of what people are going to do and play to their strengths," Plaisance said. "Once we have a better understanding, then comes the chemistry. I always build a program with the Lord Jesus Christ, great players and chemistry. I am feeling that now (chemistry) is our point of focus. If the intangibles play out with this team, we should have a successful season."

The Colonels are coming off an historic 2011-12 season in which they won the most games in a single-season (15) and won the program's first-ever Southland Conference tournament game.

Nicholls entered last year's tournament as the eighth seed and defeated No. 1 seed Central Arkansas before losing to Stephen F. Austin in the semifinals.

One factor that played a part in the Colonels' success last season was team chemistry. With a solid nucleus returning, Plaisance said she expects that chemistry to return as soon as possible.

"We will have a lot of versatility this year, but I think the fans will be excited about the quality we will put on the floor," Plaisance said. "We are talented, but in a structured system, they are reading each other well and the chemistry, I see it start to come on the court. We are excited the season is finally here. We definitely turned a corner last year and now Nicholls State's women's basketball is here to stay."
