Sarah Palin will back Rick Perry; and you can take that to the bank says Fund

From Eric Dondero:

Libertarian Republican columnist for the WSJ John Fund goes down a laundry list of reasons why Sarah Palin will not be running for president, and will ultimately endorse her friend Rick Perry in his latest, "Why Sarah Palin Is Not Running."

Fund outlines strong hints from Palin such as her lack of any organization, her less-than-stellar poll numbers in the GOP primary race, familial responsibilities, and her very latest statements.

Also, this little juicy tidbit (via NewsMax):

So if Sarah Palin isn’t running for president, what will she do in 2012? Even as a non-candidate she has the potential to shake up the GOP race. In a recent slickly-produced video producer by Team Palin that chronicles her bus tour of Iowa, Palin shakes hands with a girl in an “Americans for Rick Perry” T-shirt and then poses for a photo with the girl and her fellow Perry supporters.

“Given the elaborate editing that went into this production, is it likely that Palin would have approved a visual nod to Perry as a mere coincidence?” asks blogger Robert Stacy McCain, a keen-eyed Palin watcher. “I don’t think so.”

Does SMD Have a Bias Against Venus?

Scientists Perceive NASA Bias Against Venus, Scientific American

"Venus would seem to be a tempting destination for planetary probes: conveniently close, and an extreme laboratory for atmospheric processes familiar on Earth. So why won't NASA send a mission there? That was the frustrated question coming from scientists at the annual meeting of NASA's Venus Exploration Analysis Group (VEXAG) near Washington, D.C., on August 30-31. They perceive an agency bias against Venus, a planet that hasn't seen a U.S. mission since the Magellan probe radar-mapped its shrouded surface in the early 1990s, and which won't see one any time soon, after NASA this year rejected a bumper crop of Venus proposals."

Caturday bugs me | Bad Astronomy

So my photographer brother-in-law Chris was showing me some pictures he took recently, and when this one came up I have to admit I actually recoiled a bit:

Yowza. Scary looking little bugger, ain’t it? Actually, there are two of these insects in the picture, though at first it’s hard to tell. I think Chris may have interrupted them in the process of making more little critters.

Anyway, Chris and I had no clue what they were, so I sent a note to my pal Bug Girl, who knew right away what he had found: an Ambush bug. Judging from other pictures, she got it in one. They’re very formidable looking, and actually rather lovely with their color contrasting those of the Russian sage on which they’re perched.

If you agree, and like insects in general, then check out Bug Girl’s blog. There’re enough creepy crawlies there to last you through the whole weekend.

Genetic engineering: The world’s greatest scam?

(French version -- http://www.greenpeace.org Genetic engineering is a threat to food security, especially in a changing climate. The introduction of genetically manipulated organisms by choice or by accident grossly undermines sustainable agriculture and in so doing, severely limits the choice of food we can eat. Once GE plants are released into the environment, they are out of control
