NAPLES, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Industrial Nanotech, Inc. (Pink Sheets:INTK), an emerging global leader in nanotechnology based energy saving solutions, today announced that the Companys patented Nansulate(R) translucent thermal insulation and protective coating was specified into a recently awarded renovation project by the City of Miami. The nanotechnology based coating, which insulates while allowing through visible light and providing UV resistance, will be used for skylight insulation in the Caribbean Marketplace Renovation Project being undertaken by the City of Miami.
We look forward to having our technology be a part of the renovation of an important piece of South Florida history, stated Francesca Crolley, V.P. Business Development for Industrial Nanotech, Inc. Our coating technology is very well suited for use as skylight insulation because it provides an effective way to reduce heat transfer through glass or plexiglass, while also allowing transmission of approximately 92% of visible light, as tested on pane glass, and providing important UV resistance. Our coatings have been used in skylight applications at the Tampa Port Authority, The Vernon Bank in Louisiana, and at the Frost Art Museum at Florida International University, just to name a few. Skylights are often used in architecture to allow in natural daylight, which reduces the need for interior lighting. Unfortunately, without the protective advantage that Nansulate(R) offers, they can act as a problem area for heat loss and gain, therefore increasing cooling and heating costs. Another issue is glare and harmful UV rays streaming through the glass, which are all problems that our coating technology solves. Nansulate(R) translucent coatings are easy to apply, highly resistant to UV rays, and diffuse light... causing less glare. This combination of protective benefits along with energy savings make our technology a perfect option for insulation of skylights."
The return of the Caribbean Marketplace marks renewed efforts to boost tourism for Miami while preserving Little Haiti's history. The only building in South Florida to win the American Institute of Architects' national honor award, the structure was designed by Haitian-American Charles Harrison Pawley and inspired by the famed Iron Market in Port-au-Prince.

UT medical school
Re: Aug. 11 article "Plan for medical school unfolds."
Let's transform health care delivery by developing a University of Texas medical school and related initiatives sponsored by UT Southwestern Medical School, Central Health, the Seton Family of Healthcare and others. Working together to implement the "10 in 10" plan, we can move into national prominence by improving access to primary care, addressing the growing doctor shortage, propelling biomedical research, providing sorely needed mental health services and creating many new good- paying jobs.
If you have good health insurance, you know how important having a doctor is to good health, holding a job, being productive and leading a meaningful life. What a shame that Medicare beneficiaries have trouble finding a doctor to take care of them!
Let's get our emergency rooms out of the primary care business! Let's develop a sustainable health-care delivery system while creating thousands of new technical and professional jobs.

Re: Aug. 15 editorial, "A nickel for your health care."
I will be delighted to give my nickel to the Central Health Board to help establish a medical school in Austin! I have a brother-in-law who has multiple myeloma, a terrible blood/bone cancer, and he has lived beyond the average life span for people who have this cancer because of the exceptional care and treatment he has received at the University of Arkansas Medical School. World-class physicians move to Little Rock to teach or train at this facility, and people from all over the world spend months in Little Rock to receive mostly outpatient treatment that brings dollars to the city and provides the medical care these folks need.

BROWNSVILLE - Graduation ceremonies are just six years away for the first class of students from the Rio Grande Valley's long-awaited medical school, University of Texas Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa pledged Friday.
"The year 2018 will be a very special year for all of us," Cigarroa said at a news conference at the UT-Pan American in Edinburg, site of the medical research component of what's currently the three-campus Regional Academic Health Center.
As has been the case for hundreds of students since the gala opening of the center in Harlingen in 2002, future doctors will spend their first two academic years at the UT-Health Science Center at San Antonio and third and fourth years completing clinical training in the Valley.
The key difference is that students will, from the outset, have applied to a dedicated South Texas admission track. Hopes are high their diplomas will carry the University of Texas Health Science Center-South Texas name.
Independent school
While key questions remain - such as accreditation and funding for the estimated $40 million to $50 million in annual expenses - Cigarroa said that by then the center will have become a more independent entity.
"We are beginning the transition of the UT Health Science Center-San Antonio Regional Academic Health Center - known as the RAHC - into an independent, free-standing, comprehensive and research-intensive regional medical school, with its own president and structure, for South Texas," he said.
Plans for a full-fledged medical school for the Rio Grande Valley have been in the works since the early 1990s, when state Sen. Eddie Lucio, D-Brownsville, began documenting how the Valley's fast-growing and historically underserved region needed to better recruit physicians likely to commit to the area.
In addition to previous infrastructure investments by the Texas Legislature and UT System, the Legislature contributes about $11 million annually to support the RAHC's medical and research divisions. In 2011, UT Regents invested another $30 million for faculty recruitment, a clinical simulation facility, programs in obesity and diabetes and education in the sciences. In May, the regents endorsed new medical schools for Austin and South Texas.
"By committing to graduating students by 2018, UT has given everyone in South Texas reason to celebrate," Lucio said Friday. "I do see a lot of light at the end of the tunnel," he said. "For the first time, I feel confident we can accomplish our goals in the next five years."

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Aug. 20, 2012) - Sennen Resources Ltd. (SN.V) ("Sennen" or "the Company") restates its reasons for recommending REJECTION of the Offer by Liberty Silver Corp. ("Liberty").
Do not tender your Sennen Shares to the Liberty Offer. Sennen Shareholders are reminded that the Board of Directors have recommended REJECTION of the Liberty Offer for the reasons set out in the Director's Circular dated July 30, 2012. There is no need for Sennen Shareholders to do anything to REJECT the Liberty Offer. Please refer to the Director's Circular, which is available on SEDAR, for more detailed reasons for REJECTION, and steps to take if you have already tendered your Sennen Shares.
Various Letters and News Releases issued by Liberty's management are replete with irrelevant statements and innumerable errors that demonstrate a lack of understanding of the industry in which they purport to operate.
In order to clarify matters Sennen restates the following:
Stated Ian Rozier, President and CEO of Sennen, "Liberty's Offer is an insult to the intelligence of Sennen Shareholders who understand that this is a clear case of the management and promoters of an OTC shell company with very little money and questionable assets trying to back their ludicrously overvalued paper into an established company with tangible assets-in this case Sennen and its treasury. As previously stated, the simple fact is that Sennen Shareholders are being asked to make a very high risk Private Placement of $13.5M into a junior explorer that the market, its own management, its directors, shareholders and promoters are apparently unwilling to do. Based on this we can only assume that they collectively agree with Sennen's management and directors as to the real value of Liberty Silver. We repeat once again, Liberty's Offer is of zero interest to Sennen's Board, management, as well as to shareholders representing a majority of the Company's shares, if indeed any of them."
Sennen's Board of Directors recommends Sennen Shareholders do NOT tender their Sennen Shares to the Liberty Offer and are reminded that the Board of Directors have recommended REJECTION of the Liberty Offer for reasons as set out in the Director's Circular dated July 30, 2012. There is no need for Sennen Shareholders to do anything to REJECT the Liberty Offer. Please refer to the Director's Circular, which is available on SEDAR, for more detailed reasons for REJECTION, and steps to take if you have already tendered your Sennen Shares.
Neither the TSX Venture Exchange (the "TSXV") nor its Regulation Services Provider (as that term is defined in the policies of the TSXV) has reviewed, nor do they accept responsibility for the adequacy or accuracy of, this release.

BEIJING Angry youths on Sunday overturned cars and smashed shop windows in anti-Japanese protests across China stemming from a long-standing dispute over uninhabited islands claimed by both countries.
Not to be outdone in nationalist fervor, 150 Japanese activists tried to land on the islands in the East China Sea by boat Sunday to commemorate World War II deaths. When that failed, 10 of them swam to one of the rocky islands and tried to plant a Japanese flag.
The demonstrations in China were the largest since 2010, when a Chinese fishing captain whose boat collided with a Japanese coast guard vessel was arrested, leading to a protracted standoff.
The largest street protest was in Shenzhen, where thousands of people, mostly students, overturned Japanese-made police cars and smashed the windows of Japanese restaurants. Demonstrations also took place over the weekend in Chengdu, Xian and Jinan, among other Chinese cities, as well as in Hong Kong. Japanese chain stores including Uniqlo, which are wildly popular among young Chinese, were forced to close for the day.
"Japanese, get off our Diaoyu islands," read most of the banners, while others exhorted Chinese to "kill all the Japanese." The islands are known as Senkaku in Japan.
Photographs that circulated on Chinese microblogs during the day showed a young man with a metal pipe destroying a Honda police car. Another showed a demonstrator in an anti-Japanese T-shirt taking photographs with a Canon single-lens reflex camera. Canon is a Japanese company.
The Chinese government had periodically allowed anti-Japanese demonstrations, which appear to give the youth an opportunity to let off steam while displaying their patriot fervor. But the protests were usually kept under enough control to prevent serious casualties or property damage.
This time, the tit-for-tat displays of nationalism began when a group of Hong Kong activists landed on the same islands Wednesday, asserting China's territorial claim. Trying to avoid a repeat of the 2010 fishing boat incident, Japan released the Hong Kong activists within 48 hours.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry complained Sunday about the landing of the Japanese activists, but issued an otherwise mild reproof.
The day of protests and counter-protests comes amid a flare-up of disputes in Asian waters. China also has territorial disputes with Vietnam and the Philippines in the South China Sea, and squabbling has also resumed between Japan and South Korea.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan urged China on Monday to protect its citizens after anti-Japanese protests rocked Chinese cities on the weekend, and stressed that a feud over disputed islands in the East China Sea should not damage ties between Asia's two biggest economies. Thousands of protesters took to the streets in Chinese cities on Sunday, with groups overturning Japanese cars and shouting slogans ...

Summer reading for most people means magazines, novels, and similar escapist fare, but for me, its the American Journal of Human Genetics (AJHG). Perusing the table of contents of the current issue tells me whats dominating this post-genomic era: information beyond the obvious, a subtext hidden within the sequences of A, C, T and G.
In the decades following the cracking of the genetic code in the 1960s the correspondence between DNA (actually RNA) triplets and the 20 types of amino acids in biological proteins the one gene-one protein mindset guided genetic research. Investigators used indirect methods to map genes to chromosomes, then painstakingly made the gene-protein assignments, describing rare, single-gene diseases one at a time.
I looked at past issues of the AJHG at decade intervals from this time of year, to place the current issue into perspective. The September 1982 journal had crude linkage maps of 4 human chromosomes, the idea of a human genome project not yet uttered. Within the next decade, a flurry of genes behind the more familiar single-gene diseases began to reveal themselves: myotonic dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the first type of osteogenesis imperfecta, and the elusive Huntington disease among them.
The functioning of the human genome is much more than the protein-encoding sequences. (DOE - Genomes to Life)
The 2002 AJHG held the first inklings of moving beyond the single gene approach, with genomewide and associations entering the lingo, soon to be wed into the GWAS genomewide association studies that dominated until the recent takeover by whole exome sequencing. Articles dealt with SNPs and susceptibilities, described mutations in non-amino-acid-coding parts of genes, and included more environmentally-influenced traits and conditions, such height and bipolar disorder.
And now, the tone and content of the August 2012 issue highlight how the information in DNA goes far beyond one-gene-one-protein. Here are some such hidden meanings:
A mutant gene behind a form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) also causes essential tremor. In ALS, a missense mutation, which alters an amino acid, hangs around in motor neurons and does something we still dont know what that shuts down the cells. But in essential tremor, the mutation is nonsense, which halts production of the protein and activates a cellular garbage disposal pathway that removes the incomplete proteins, with less dire consequences. (The gene, FUS, accounts for only 4% of the 10% of ALS cases that are inherited).
A fifth form of osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease) stems from a mutation in the control DNA sequence that lies before the protein-encoding sequence. So instead of spelling get ready to start, the mutation tacks five amino acids onto the 132-amino-acid protein. The gene had eluded classic linkage studies and even the Sanger sequencing of the human genome project.
A potential biomarker for susceptibility to and prognosis for lung cancer lies in having 4 copies of a particular repeated sequence, compared to having 2 or 3 copies, in the promoter control region of a gene called MAPKAPK2.

Aetna will buy Coventry Health Care for $5.7 billion as the insurance industry realigns itself to better navigate the massive government health care overhaul.
The Hartford, Conn., company said Monday that it would pay $42.08 for each share of Coventry stock. That includes $27.30 in cash and a portion of its stock. The price represents a 20 percent premium on Coventry's Friday closing price of $34.94. The deal is valued at $7.3 billion, including debt from Coventry Health Care Inc., which is based in Bethesda, Md.
The acquisition ramps up Aetna's Medicare Advantage and Medicare prescription drug businesses, and it will grow the insurer's Medicaid business. Medicaid is the state-federal program that provides coverage for the needy and disabled that is targeted for expansion under the health care overhaul.
Millions of uninsured Americans are expected to gain coverage starting in 2014 through Medicaid as part of the overhaul, which also will offer subsidies to help more people buy private insurance coverage. States hire insurers to offer Medicaid coverage to their residents.
Medicare Advantage plans are privately run versions of the government's Medicare coverage for the elderly and also the disabled. Insurers have seen interest in these plans soar in recent years, as the baby boomer generation ages and becomes eligible for the subsidized coverage.
Medicaid and Medicare Advantage represent relatively small slices of Aetna's enrollment. All told, Aetna said the deal will raise the percentage of revenue it draws from government business to 30 percent, from 23 percent.
Shares of Coventry jumped more than 20 percent, or $7.15, to $42.09 Monday in pre-market trading
Big health insurers are turning their focus more to Medicaid.
Last month, Blue Cross-Blue Shield insurer WellPoint Inc. said it would spend $4.46 billion to buy another insurer that specializes in Medicaid, Amerigroup Corp. Last year, Cigna Corp. said it would buy HealthSpring for nearly $4 billion as it grabbed for a share of Medicare revenue.
