Dude, could pot smokers decide the election – for Mitt Romney?

A marijuana legalization measure on the Colorado ballot promoted by Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson could be very important in this close presidential race.

The Jewish vote, women, Hispanics, even the Scandinavian vote have all been pegged by prognosticators as key swing constituencies in Tuesdays electoral showdown between President Obama and Mitt Romney.

But what if its really pot smokers who decide the next US president, specifically psychedelia enthusiasts in the battleground state of Colorado (9 electoral votes) where pot legalization and dark horse candidate Gary Johnson are both on the ballot?

Far out, right? Maybe not.

Polls suggest that Colorados Amendment 64, which would legalize and regulate marijuana much like alcohol, may pass on Tuesday, so legalization will be foremost on the minds of voters in a state now in a statistical deadlock between Obama and Romney. (Washington and Oregon also have pot legalization referendums on the ballot, but Romney stands little chance in those liberal northwestern enclaves.)

Cover Story:What Americans want from the next president

To thicken the haze, add former New Mexico Governor Johnson running for president as the Libertarian candidate. Johnson, who first supported legalization in 1999, has made Colorado his linchpin, campaigning extensively and paying for robocalls suggesting to Democratic voters that Obama has let them down by going against a 2008 campaign vow to go easy on medical marijuana dispensaries.

The nail biter for the two campaigns heading into Election Day: Johnson alone may take 1, possibly 2, percent of the Colorado vote, enough to tip the scales perhaps nationally for either of the major party contenders.

BOWLING GREEN Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson the Libertarian Party presidential candidate brought his message of small and out-of-your-business government to Bowling Green today.

Speaking to 150 or so people gathered at the Cla-Zel Theatre downtown, Mr. Johnson said he was more liberal than President Obama on social issues, more conservative than GOP nominee Mitt Romney on fiscal issues.

Less government is better government. Keep government out of the bedroom. Dont be making choices for me that I should be making, Mr. Johnson said to avid applause.

The former Republican said he would eliminate income tax and corporate tax in favor of a more fair consumption tax. He would eliminate the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Reserve. He advocates legalizing marijuana and same-sex marriage.

Mr. Johnson dismissed the idea that voting for a third-party candidate means wasting your vote.

Im hoping to rain on the party, he said. Im hoping to rain on the two-party system. Its over.

Libertarian in Wis. Senate race offers choice

MANITOWOC, Wis. (AP) - As a Libertarian candidate for Wisconsin's U.S. Senate, Joe Kexel knows he doesn't have a chance of defeating Democrat Tammy Baldwin or Republican Tommy Thompson. He says he'd just be happy to finish with 5% of the vote.

He says he's running to provide an alternative for voters who think their only option Tuesday is the lesser of 2 evils.

Kexel is an information-technology specialist from Kenosha. He says he's spent under $1,000 of his own money on his campaign, in a race where total spending could be in the $50 million range.

Kexel says he favors fiscal responsibility, lower taxes and a smaller military. A Manitowoc Herald Times report (http://htrne.ws/Sol6lZ ) says he hopes he'll get votes from people turned off by the negativity of the whole Senate campaign.

Libertarian candidate Johnson holds rally in Streetsboro

Written by Kelly Maile Friday, 02 November 2012 19:58

Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson said he knows he has no shot of winning the presidential election, but he hopes to make a name for his partys movement.

The former Republican governor of New Mexico said for every time 5,000 people say Obamas name, his name is mentioned once. Johnson is on the ballot in 48 states, hes a write-in in Michigan and hes not on the ballot at all in Oklahoma. Johnson knows his number of supporters doesnt compare to those of Romney or Obama.

Even though Johnson may not be as well known, more than 1,000 people showed up to see the governor at a rally at Stringz and Wingz in Streetsboro.

The crowd was mostly white males, who dont sway liberal or conservative but tend to sit in the middle on social and financial issues. However, the libertarian party is popular among of those who support the legalization of marijuana.

Ben Stover, 24, of Louisville, said he was a Democrat but has issues with Obama and plans to vote for Johnson.

The two main parties are out of control, Stover said. These parties are going to be the downfall of this country because even though they really are similar, they pretend that theyre not and dont ever agree. This is not the way our forefathers intended our country to be.

One of the issues that matters most to Stover is the legalization of hemp and cannabis.

Hemp and marijuana have so many uses that not legalizing them is a waste of valuable resources and potential revenue, Stover said. Marijuana and hemp can be taxed when its sold, which will help reduce our deficit.

Candidate Johnson agreed that the libertarian party is known as the pot party and said he plans to legalize if he wins.

Libertarian could spell trouble for Mourdock

Libertarian Andrew Horning channeled John Lennon at an Oct. 23 debate among candidates for a U.S. Senate seat from Indiana.

People say Im a dreamer. You know, Im not the only one, Horning said, drawing chuckles from the audience in New Albany.

Turning serious, Horning pointed to the candidates flanking him Rep. Joe Donnelly, D-2nd, and Republican state Treasurer Richard Mourdock and told audience and TV viewers: You dont have to choose this. You can do better than this.

Horning is dreaming if he thinks he has a chance to win election Tuesday. But he could wind up as a nightmare for Republicans.

Hornings election history shows he is good for 2 percent to 4 percent of the vote. He has run for governor, Indianapolis mayor and a seat in the U.S. House attracting nearly 44 percent of the vote when he was a Republican congressional candidate in 2004.

If the race between Donnelly and Mourdock is as close as some polls and many pundits have suggested, the ultraconservative Horning could be the spoiler.

I think he could take quite a few votes from Mourdock, said Ray Scheele, a political scientist at Ball State University.

Scheele called Horning a pretty good landing spot for die-hard supporters of six-term Sen. Richard Lugar who are still bitter over Lugars loss to Mourdock in the Republican primary election but who cant bring themselves to vote for a Democrat.

Horning disputed the assessment, saying Thursday in a phone interview that his non-Libertarian supporters are mostly Democrats.

Every percent I get is something that rankles the powers that be, Horning said. You hear their rhetoric; they say Im stealing votes from this or that (candidate).

Preventing and Treating Hypothermia Alert to NY residents Sandy aftermath – Video

Preventing and Treating Hypothermia Alert to NY residents Sandy aftermath
Good luck all!!! New York mayor Michael Bloomberg has warned residents of the risk of hypothermia as temperatures plunge amid the aftermath of superstorm Sandy. Temperatures are set to plunge to 2 Celsius overnight in the area, as some residents remain without gas for heating or electrical power. Mr Bloomberg said that the Long Island Power Authority (Lipa) "has not acted aggressively enough" to restore power to storm-hit residents in the region. He called it "unacceptable" that the worst-hit areas were not given priority for repairs, as some residents are told it could take two weeks to restore power. Earlier on Saturday New Jersey governor Chris Christie announced a decision to cut natural gas supplies to the Barrier Islands, due to the risk of explosions caused by gas leaks. Some residents of New Jersey have been moved to tents set up by a utility company due to the length of time they are expected to be homeless due to the storm that hit the east coast last Monday.From:beeczarfilesViews:0 0ratingsTime:04:01More inNews Politics

The Venus Project – Houses. – Video

The Venus Project - Houses.
thevenusproject.com The Venus Project recommends that the present state and aims of architecture be redefined to fit the evolving needs of individuals in this new, emergent culture. The architecture and individual dwellings of future cities will evolve on an entirely different basis from today #39;s houses. With the intelligent application of humane technologies, we will be able to provide and allow for a wide array of unique individual homes. Their structural elements will be flexible and coherently arranged to best serve individual preference. These pre-fabricated, modular homes, embodying a high degree of flexibility inconceivable in times past, could be built anyplace one might imagine, amidst forests, atop mountains, or on remote islands. All of these dwellings can be designed as self-contained residences with their own thermal generators and heat concentrators. Photovoltaic arrays would be built into the skin of the building and into the windows themselves. "Thermopanes" would be used to tint out the bright sunlight by variable patterns of shading. All these features could be selected by the occupant to supply more than enough of the energy required to operate the entire household. Homes could be prefabricated of a new type of pre-stressed, reinforced concrete with a flexible ceramic external coating that would be relatively maintenance free, fireproof, and impervious to the weather. Their thin shell construction can be mass-produced in a matter of hours. With this type ...From:ChiMana7ThParadiseViews:0 0ratingsTime:01:54More inNonprofits Activism
