AUDIO: Mental health care attitudes call

Mental health charity Gofal is calling for improvement in healthcare workers and GPs' attitudes to mental health problems in Wales.

A study of 1,000 people who received help with mental health suggests there are issues with waiting times and the effectiveness of treatments.

Nearly half said their treatment only partly addressed their problems or did not help at all.

The Welsh government said it has plans in place to address issues raised.

Katie Dalton, public affairs manager for Gofal, told Felicity Evans of BBC Radio Wales about patients' concerns.

Health reform could bring a crowd, some leaders say

With health reform now a certainty, some local health care leaders are bracing for a surge in waiting-room complaints as thousands of newly insured patients start showing up for medical care.

The Affordable Care Act mandates increased health coverage for the uninsured. In California, that means expanding the states Medi-Cal program and offering subsidized insurance plans on a newly created state-run exchange.

On the first day of 2014, more than 300,000 uninsured San Diego County residents are expected to qualify for coverage. Many health care experts say there simply will not be enough doctors to go around.

Dr. Ted Mazer, communications director of the San Diego County Medical Society, said there is already a local primary care shortage.

We know that, for the Medi-Cal population, and for the newly insured, those folks are being dealt a false promise, Mazer said. Theyre saying, Here is your insurance, go find a doctor, but we know that even as things are today, current beneficiaries cant find a doctor.

Mazer added that cuts to physician reimbursement are likely to cut the already-anemic number of primary care doctors and specialists willing to accept Medi-Cal insurance, just at the wave of newly insured patients hits. He predicted that many of those who cannot find a doctor will end up going to the emergency room for care, just as many are already doing today.

Youre going to complicate the care for the patients who currently have some access because youre going to flood the market with more people with a Medi-Cal card and youre not doing anything to improve the infrastructure, Mazer said.

The doctor shortage has been documented by many publications, most recently the Annals of Family Medicine which published a study Nov. 20 that found an additional 52,000 more primary care doctors will be needed nationwide by 2025 to cope with the surge in demand.

But not everyone sees difficulty on the horizon. Gary Rotto, director of health policy for the Council of Community Clinics, which represents 16 neighborhood health centers in the region, said he believes that the wave of new patients will arrive gradually, making it more ridable.

There will be an initial crunch, but we believe that we can work people into the system and provide the care that they need at our clinics, Rotto said.

Health Question for Women: Two Doctors or One?

The new health care law covers preventive care but leaves open the question of who will provide it to women: general practitioners or ob-gyns? And who decides?

Credit: Alex E. Proimos on Flickr, under Creative Commons (CC BY 2.0).

(WOMENSENEWS)--Half of all American women have skipped health visits, follow ups or treatments because they couldn't afford to pay, according to a 2011 report by the Commonwealth Fund.

Women have also been paying higher health insurance premiums, with 92 percent of U.S. health plans practicing gender rating, according to a 2010 report from the National Women's Law Center. The report added that 56 percent of plans charge non-smoking women more for coverage than male smokers.

All that should change as President Barack Obama's reelection lowers the uncertainty about the Affordable Care Act and the new law continues its gradual implementation.

The predictable effect will be a major expansion of women's preventive health care. More in doubt, however, is which doctors will provide that care.

Currently, many healthy women with adequate health coverage have two primary care doctors, in contrast to men, who generally have one. Women see a primary care doctor and an obstetrician-gynecologist, a specialist who often requires a referral under current systems.

But that could change since the new health law defines certain services as primary or preventive care but leaves open the matter of who provides that care. It could be a general practitioner or internist or another primary-care provider. Or it could be the physician who does a woman's annual Pap smear, while she's in the office for a regular visit.

Main Show Only – The Illuminati Agenda – Coast to Coast AM – Video

Main Show Only - The Illuminati Agenda - Coast to Coast AM
Researcher of esoteric history, Alan Watt discussed how ultra high level sects have controlled the course of history to a pre-determined goal and are still in power. Currently, the agenda of the group he referred to as the Illuminati is a kind of "world planning" in which the population would be massively cut back in order to create a more pristine environment for the 500 million or so that remain. This might be achieved by a "scientific dictatorship" denying food to countries that overpopulate, he outlined, and chaos installed by pandemics, quakes and war, that would ready a populace for control by a "new world order." Among those behind such plans, he pointed towards the upper echelon of societies such as the Rosicrucians and the Freemasons, the Rhodes Foundation, futurist think tanks and the creators of the Project for the New American Century. Ultimately the Illuminati seek to create a new clone type, hermaphroditic in nature, that could replicate itself on space journeys, and eliminate the need for women, Watt suggested. To fight back, people should inform themselves from the available data and bombard their politicians to put a stop to such plans, he said. From:Geoff ThomasViews:34 0ratingsTime:01:17:10More inEducation

Blade Runner – 30th Anniversary Collector’s Edition Blu-ray – Unboxing – HD – Video

Blade Runner - 30th Anniversary Collector #39;s Edition Blu-ray - Unboxing - HD
When Ridley Scott #39;s cut of Blade Runner was finally released in 1993, one had to wonder why the studio hadn #39;t done it right the first time--11 years earlier. This version is so much better, mostly because of what #39;s been eliminated (the ludicrous and redundant voice-over narration and the phoney happy ending) rather than what #39;s been added (a bit more character development and a brief unicorn dream). Star Harrison Ford originally recorded the narration under duress at the insistence of Warner Bros. executives who thought the story needed further "explanation"; he later confessed that he thought if he did it badly they wouldn #39;t use it. (Moral: Never overestimate the taste of movie executives.) The movie #39;s spectacular futuristic vision of Los Angeles--a perpetually dark and rainy metropolis that #39;s the nightmare antithesis of "Sunny Southern California"--is still its most seductive feature, another worldly atmosphere in which you can immerse yourself. The movie #39;s shadowy visual style, along with its classic private-detective/murder-mystery plot line (with Ford on the trail of a murderous android, or "replicant"), makes Blade Runner one of the few science fiction pictures to legitimately claim a place in the film noir tradition. And, as in the best noir, the sleuth discovers a whole lot more (about himself and the people he encounters) than he anticipates. The cast also includes Sean Young, Edward James Olmos, Daryl Hannah Rutger Hauer and M. Emmet Walsh. Product Description ...From:ShackredViews:28 0ratingsTime:04:14More inFilm Animation

A free online documentary created by The Venus Project. Original music by Carly Paradis (www.carlyparadis.com from her album "They Have Been Watching". This documentary details the root causes of the systemic value disorders and detrimental symptoms caused by our current established system. This video presentation advocates a new socio-economic system, which is updated to present-day knowledge, featuring the life-long work of Social Engineer, Futurist, Inventor and Industrial Designer Jacque Fresco, which he calls a Resource-Based Economy. The film details the need to outgrow the dated and inefficient methods of politics, law, business, or any other "establishment" notions of human affairs, and use the methods of science, combined with high technology, to provide for the needs of all the world #39;s people. It is not based on the opinions of the political and financial elite or on illusionary so-called democracies, but on maintaining a dynamic equilibrium with the planet that could ultimately provide abundance for all people. His story takes place at a simulated shopping mall populated by people who have taken an "afterlife chip." The option of transferring our consciousness into a computer/android could create a kind of immortality and may be scientifically feasible down the road, said Pickover. It will begin as a gradual process of replacing parts of our body with mechanical components, eventually leading to "becoming one with the machine," he forecasted. Simulated environments such as Second Life (see below) will become more immersive in the years to come, and with enough computational power these virtual worlds could seem as real as real life. Interestingly, he suggested, that it #39;s possible that we #39;re existing now in a simulation that we aren #39;t even aware of. Gas Price Manipulation First hour guest, Tim Hamilton of Oil Watchdog discussed how gas prices are manipulated. Big oil companies limit refinery capacity, driving up prices and slowing consumption-- creating a shortage of gas but not oil, he explained.From:zigdogshowViews:1 0ratingsTime:02:33:06More inEducation

Track Of The Day 26/11 – Kris Menace

Sometime you have to go backwards in order to go forwards.

Kris Menace steals from the full spectrum of electronic music. Disco with a house twist, techno with an Industrial flair... you name it, hes half-inched the drum loop and patched together a tearaway synth sound.

But what always comes through is the sheer force of Kris Menaces character. New album Features is the first to feature the producer as a vocalist, with Miss Kitten, Robert Owens, Romanthony and more stepping into his disco palace.

All cocaine numb atmospherics, lazer synths and Studio 54 poses, Features is a carefree romp through the abandoned futures of early house music.

Lead single Hide features Miss Kitten, who manages to summate the solitary disco Futurism of Kris Menace almost perfectly.

The weirdest thing is: Kris and I never met... I can imagine the album being an extension of his reality, an imaginary world where strong values and fantasy come together. His music is solid, incredible production skills, with an Italo disco-ish-French touchy twist... After working on millions versions, Kris turned the song into a superb space disco ballad, more subtle, more beautiful than the original. I am so glad he did that. That's when collaboration is successful, pushing each other forward.

Heres Alexander Maiers remix of Hide.

Hide is set to be released on December 3rd.
