Control theory research, for application to aerospace and smart grids – Video

Control theory research, for application to aerospace and smart grids
The Masahiro Ono #39;s Group engages in cutting edge research on stochastic optimal control theory, as well as its applications to aerospace engineering and green technology. Dr. Ono #39;s passion for this research comes from his childhood experience. Q. When I was 7 or 8, there was this sensational news: Voyager 2 #39;s encounter with Neptune. The spacecraft sent us beautiful pictures of the other blue planet, which is 4 billion kilometers away. I was very excited. So my dream was to become a space engineer to build a spacecraft and make exciting discoveries as Voyager did. But then a question arose: how could Voyager automatically conduct complicated tasks, such as navigating through planets, taking pictures, and precisely pointing its antennae to the Earth, while it takes 8 hours to communicate with the Earth? I learned when I was a college student that the enabling technology is control engineering. That is why I chose this path. Dr. Ono is particularly focusing on a technology called chance-constrained optimal control. When operating in an unknown environment such as space, an autonomous system is subject to significant uncertainty, which poses the risk of unforeseeable problems. Chance-constrained optimal control operates an uncertain system with a maximum efficiency while guaranteeing that the risk is within a user-specified threshold. Besides theoretical studies, Dr. Ono has also conducted various applied researches. For example, at NASA #39;s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, he ...From:keiouniversityViews:0 0ratingsTime:04:15More inScience Technology

Canadian Aerospace Review Calls For Policy And Program Renewal

The aerospace and space sectors make critical contributions to Canada's prosperity and security, but if those sectors are to remain vibrant and competitive over the next 20 to 30 years, relevant public policies and programs will need to keep pace with rapidly changing global conditions. That is the central finding of the arm's-length Aerospace Review, which was launched by the Government of Canada on February 27, 2012.

The Honourable David Emerson, Review Head, submitted the Review's report to the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry, and released the report to the public at an event held at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa Friday. Mr. Emerson was supported in the Review by an Advisory Council of three members: Sandra Pupatello, Jacques Roy, and Jim Quick. The Review drew on information and advice from industry, researchers, organized labour, and governments across Canada and abroad.

The Review's report is divided into two volumes: one on the aerospace sector, entitled Beyond the Horizon: Canada's Interests and Future in Aerospace, and one on the space sector, entitled Reaching Higher: Canada's Interests and Future in Space.

The Aerospace volume includes recommendations that the Government of Canada:

"Canada has every reason to be proud of its status as a global aerospace power. Designing and building planes, helicopters, and simulators - and the systems and parts that go into them - have made us more innovative, more prosperous, and safer," Emerson said.

He emphasized, however, that the rise of ambitious new players means Canada cannot rest on the laurels of its past success. "We need to redouble our efforts to develop the aerospace technologies of the future and secure our place in global markets and supply chains," he said, adding that "the right combination of business acumen, cutting-edge research, and government policies will allow Canada to remain an aerospace power for decades to come."

The Space volume includes recommendations that the government:

"Canada's national interest demands that we make effective use of space to unlock wealth, secure our coastlines and borders, protect our population, and deliver services. This is becoming even truer as the North opens," Emerson said.

Calling for a "reset" of the Canadian Space Program, Emerson said, "we need clarity of purpose with respect to what we want to do in space, on-time and on-budget delivery of space assets and services, and increased focus on space-related innovation and entrepreneurship."

Holly Paige – Pineal Gland, Nutrition and DMT – Video

Holly Paige - Pineal Gland, Nutrition and DMT
A SiriusConferenceVideo.com production. Summary: Researcher Holly Paige describes how different types of foods and chemicals effect the brain. Certain foods and supplements can improve brain function and though processes. While DMT, a powerful hallucinogen is produced from within the brain itself, in a gland called the Pineal Gland. In ancient times life was enhanced by a greater production of DMT in the brain but in modern times substances like fluoride calcify and inhibit the functionality of the pineal gland. Plants like passion flower can be used to affect amino acids in the brain which allow DMT to have an enchancing effect upon perception. Larger doses of DMT and MOAI #39;s (which Holly explains) can lead to seeing beings in the spirit world like angels. SC committee: The "rot is systematic", food provided is nutrition deficit

New Delhi, Dec. 1 -- World's biggest nutrition scheme, Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), is riddled with corruption in giving contracts in four big states. Also, the ready to eat food being provided is nutrition deficit, a Supreme Court appointed committee has found, urging the court to constitute a special investigation team to look into the "politician-bureaucracy and contractor nexus".

The report of Biraj Pathnaik, principal advisor to the office of SC's food commissioners, based on a ground study in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka and testing of food samples by central government's Hyderabad based National Institute of Nutrition, says the "rot is systematic" and people responsible for "stealing food from children of poor and marginalized communities" in the country should be booked.

The report shows that how Uttar Pradesh government helped Great Value Foods owned by Ponty Chadda, who with his brother Hardeep Singh were killed in their farmhouse in south Delhi last month, to garner contracts for providing supplementary nutrition under the Central government's ICDS scheme in violation of Supreme Court orders.

Despite the Supreme Court banning procurement of food from contractors in 2004, the report said, the UP government gave contract to Great Value Foods, which set up a processing plant in Bahraich district for supplying ready to eat food to anganwadis in Gorakhpur and 11 other districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.

"The food being supplied does not contain the nutritional ingredients it claims to contain and the weaning food is not particularly suitable for babies," the report said with reference to Chadda's company. The company with registered office in Delhi was not available for comments despite repeated attempts. The report also pointed out the government favoured other private contractors through its tendering process.

In Karnataka, the report quoted state Lokayukta police to claim that three state women and child development department officials received bribe from a private contractor for tampering with the tendering process and later for supplying poor quality food. They "acquired properties" from the ill-gotten money, the report said.

The report also belied the impression has been created in Karnataka and Gujarat that the ready to eat food was being supplied by women self-help groups. It said the reality was that the contractors were supplying substandard food to anganwadi centers and in Gujarat the tendering process excluded women groups from bidding by seeking special blending of fortified food.

The claims of the state government and private producers of children getting good quality food had fallen flat with the National Institute of Nutrition certifying most samples to be nutrition deficient on several counts.

The vitamins were below detectable limit in all samples from Maharashtra and UP. Similarly, samples from all four states were deficient in proteins. "The energy level was 40 % less in samples for Gujarat and 30 % less in Maharashtra," the report said, adding that the results show serious gaps in quality of ready to eat food being supplied in anganwadi centers.

"We reiterate our concern for the health, nutrition and life of millions of children in India, in the larger public interest we again request the Supreme Court to set up an independent Special Investigation Team (SIT) to enquire into the matter," said NC Saxena and Harsh Mander, special commissioners of the court.
