Today on Fox Business Network, Judge Andrew Napolitano addressed the libertarian view on religion. He disagreed with the statement that libertarians don #39;t believe in God. Judge Napolitano responded to the claim, saying, "Most libertarians would go along with Jefferson #39;s argument in the Declaration of Independence mdash; we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights." Generally speaking, the judge explained that libertarians believe that our rights come from our humanity and our humanity is a gift from God. "Your humble correspondent is an old-fashioned, pre-Vatican II Roman Catholic," Judge Napolitano said, describing how he preferred Mass to be held in Latin. MR. SPEAKER: The Member for St. John #39;s North. MR. KIRBY: Mr. Speaker, I rise today to salute a resident of St. John #39;s North who was recently recognized with a Seniors of Distinction Award. Ted Blanchard has a long record of service to the people of this Province, including serving one term, in the 1980s, as the MHA for Bay of Islands. Born in Gillams, he worked as a teenager in the Bowater mill in Corner Brook for a short time before training as a teacher. Ted and his family settled in St. John #39;s, where he spent most of his career working for the provincial government. A labour mediator, Ted is known in other circles for his contributions to music in the Province -- with Don Randell, he released the first-ever commercial recording of Newfoundland music in 1957. They received the St. John #39;s Folk Arts Council Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. Ted also spent years with the Royal St. John #39;s Regatta as a rower, coach, coxswain, and committee member. Since his retirement, he has been able to focus on his hobbies and passions, and our community is much better and much richer for it, Mr. Speaker.
