If a home is in need of a major repair or a person needs to finance a lengthy home project, they should take advantage of Freedom Credit Unions home equity loan. This October, Freedom Credit Union, greater Philadelphias low financing credit union, is announcing they will now be offering their Members a home equity loan to properly finance that big project. With a home equity loan in Bucks County, homeowners put the real property value of their home on the line with the possibility to deduct the interest with income taxes. Utilizing the Freedom Credit Union home equity loan program, homeowners can receive a loan as much as 80 percent of the propertys value.
A home equity loan is much like taking out a second home mortgage, with monthly payments that can last anywhere from a couple of months to 180 months. The amount of the loan and interest rate depends on the credit history of the interested party. There are two types of loans available from Freedom Credit Union. There is the straightforward regular home equity loana lump sum of a certain amountor there is a home equity line of credit. A line of credit simply means the person can choose when to receive the loan and the value of the loan. It is available for any refinancing project or to cover childrens education on a yearly basis.
Freedom Credit Union offers exceptional service and sits down with Members for a one-on-one discussion to go over any loan options one may have. WASHINGTON At a symposium hosted last week at Georgetown University by the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) and the ecumenical Manhattan Declaration, Commission President Russell Moore explained his belief that Christians should fight for freedom for all religionsnot just their own.
Andrew Walker, director of policy studies for the ERLC, served as moderator for the event, and fielded questions from various individuals pertaining to the persecution of Christians and the need to speak out in support of religious freedom.
Are Christians at the forefront of religious freedom for all? Walker presented to the group. Do you understand the implications it must include our other?
Russell Moore, the president of the Commission, then answered the question by stating that he believes Christians are guilty of only supporting freedom for their own religion.
Well, thats the key question, and it must be the case, he stated. One of the mistakes that Christians have made in years past is this kind of majoritarian understanding [that] weve got to fight for our own rights here and maintain our own rights without being very diligent and making sure were fighting for religious liberty for all persons.
Moore explained that as a leader in evangelical Christianity, he doesnt see much support for the rights other religions, and opined that it raises concerns.
[T]hat hasnt been the case throughout all of American history, but in recent years I think thats been a problem, especially in my world of evangelical Protestantism, he stated. Its just a lack of attention to this. But when were talking about liberty of conscience and freedom of religion, were talking about this for all people, and thats becausenot because we believe anything less about the Gospel as Christians
Moore then provided the example of the building of mosques in American cities.
Evangelical Christians need to be the first peopleand Catholic Christians and others standing in any given communitysaying [that] we really dont want the mayor to have the power to keep a mosque out of here simply because its a mosque, he stated.
And not only because we know thats eventually going to be turned against us, but also because we believe there is something important about keeping the state within its bounds, not taking on the role of God, Moore said, [and that we would] be able to have that free and open dialogue that we must have.

Exciting news on various important science and tech beats today, as we learn that boffins have achieved breakthroughs in the allied fields of brain-chipped monkeys, robotics and cybernetics. To wit, they have been working out how to equip monkeys wielding robot arms with a sense of touch.
Rather than monkey, robot, or monkey-robot cyborg combination butler-Terminators, however, this research is aimed at making robot arms for human beings work better. This research is funded by our old friends at the US military bonkers-boffinry bureau DARPA, hoping to deliver better replacement limbs for American troops injured in the Wars on Stuff.
If you really want to create an arm that can actually be used dexterously without the enormous amount of concentration it takes without sensory feedback, you need to restore the somatosensory feedback," explains Sliman Bensmaia, Chicago uni prof.
Bansmaia and his colleagues set to work on this using experimental monkeys. A Chicago uni statement describes the research:
The researchers performed a series of experiments with rhesus macaques that were trained to respond to stimulation of the hand. In one setting, they were gently poked on the hand with a physical probe at varying levels of pressure. In a second setting, some of the animals had electrodes implanted into the area of the brain that responds to touch. These animals were given electrical pulses to simulate the sensation of touch, and their hands were hidden so they wouldnt see that they werent actually being touched.
Using data from the animals responses to each type of stimulus, the researchers were able to create a function, or equation, that described the requisite electrical pulse to go with each physical poke of the hand. Then, they repeated the experiments with a prosthetic hand that was wired to the brain implants. They touched the prosthetic hand with the physical probe, which in turn sent electrical signals to the brain.
It seems that, poke-wise, the monkeys didn't distinguish between fleshy and robotic hand stimulus. In Bensmaia's view, this means we're well on our way to artificial arms with a sense of touch.
This is the first time as far as I know where an animal or organism actually perceives a tactile stimulus through an artificial transducer, says the prof. Its an engineering milestone."
Human trials are anticipated within the next year, apparently, though we here on the Reg brainplug desk would note that electrodes inside the human skull seem unlikely to become a widespread solution. Human trials may well take place, but inserting electrodes for the purpose would be most unusual: normally such trials are done with people who have already had to have electrodes inserted for other reasons.

Now that's real science: CYBORG MONKEYS with PROSTHETIC ARMS
Panaji, Oct 15, 2013, (PTI)
The Goa tourism department has decided to increase security on the state's popular beaches by extending deployment of policemen till midnight.
A decision to this effect was taken yesterday at a high level tourism security committee meeting which was chaired by state tourism minister Dilip Parulekar.
Beaches like Baga, Anjuna, Calangute, Colva and others which are popular and have highest footfalls will be given security cover till midnight, Parulekar told PTI.
India Reserve Battalion (IRB) has been deployed at the beaches in addition to the Tourism Security Force, which is currently facing manpower shortage.
The IRB will remain posted at lesser popular beaches till 10 PM, he said.
It was also decided at the meeting to strengthen Tourism Security Force, which currently has 75 personnel.
"Additional 125 personnel would be recruited in the force soon, strengthening it further," Parulekar added.
The meeting was held to review security arrangements in the backdrop of commencement of the tourist season in the coastal state.
The first chartered flight carrying Russian tourists arrived in the state on Sunday.

Here is my opinion about how loud the Destin beaches have become these days.
In 1974 my wife and I visited Destin for the first time and stayed at Silver Dunes, the only condominium on the beach at the time. We immediately fell madly in love with the sleepy little fishing village called Destin. Today, of course, Destin is no longer a sleepy little fishing village and has sadly evolved into a major resort town and a giant magnet for every man, woman and child in all the surrounding states to hit the beaches.
Even in spite of all the madness and crazy traffic in Destin these days, my wife and I still visit often to enjoy the sunrises, sunsets and beautiful views of the gulf. Weve experienced a few years of owning and renting a condominium, but now always spend a couple of weeks in May and the month of October enjoying the Destin beach at the Destin Gulfgate Condominiums.
One of the greatest joys of mine has always been my afternoon nap under the umbrella with a small breeze blowing on my face. You cant find or enjoy this unique treasure in too many other places around the world. However, Im now afraid that my favorite joy is slowly disappearing. And, unfortunately, it appears that nothing is being done by the city of Destin to guarantee the future of napping on their beach.
Its impossible to relax and take a snooze these days because of the never ending new helicopter ride business that sends a helicopter up and down the beach almost every 15 minutes or so. When they pause, the large helicopter training flights come along with even louder noise. Then the lighter-than-air plane with its rear engine zooms by very low and near the beach. Add tour boats blowing their horns along with the WaveRunners and there isnt much time to relax and absolutely no way to take a nap.
This letter is my way of making a public announcement that effective immediately all daytime napping and snoozing is no longer allowed on the beaches of Destin until further notice.
Im confident that The Destin city fathers and the local Chamber of Commerce can come together and find a common solution and some reasonable restrictions to this serious noise pollution problem. The challenge and mission is very simple ... try to please all the people all the time.
