'Morgan Spurlock Inside Man': No bread, no pasta, no sugar, but wine is OK

When Morgan Spurlock shot to fame, he was gorging himself on McDonald's three times a day to see what happens if he lived off only that -- and he ate the largest size that workers pushed -- in "Super Size Me."

In "Futurism," airing Sunday, April 20, Spurlock focuses on those striving for immortality. Since shooting that episode, Spurlock has lost 25 pounds.

He attends a party in California where people try various ways to extend their lives. Some take hundreds of supplements daily; others are on the paleo diet.

It would be a stronger show if Spurlock asked more questions such as: Why eat like a caveman? Why take so many vitamins? Spurlock has an incredibly thorough physical exam, and the doctor tells him to shed 18 pounds, take supplements and exercise.

Spurlock's goal is "to delve into issues that affect all of us, maybe in ways we don't even realize," he says. "A lot of times we see headlines and think they don't affect us. What the show does a great job of doing is showing how they do affect us."

Last week's Season 2 premiere was devoted to celebrity. Spurlock tried to be a paparazzo. Unless you're Angelina, Jen or a successful actor who dares to take the children to the playground, it's hard to see how paparazzi affect most people.

"What a lot of people don't realize is every time you buy a People, an Us, a Star, it does touch you," Spurlock says. "As you turn on the TV and watch 'TMZ' or 'Access Hollywood,' people are complicitly involved without recognizing their involvement."

We mourn the untimely and unexpected passing of DAP National Chairman and Member of Parliament for Bukit Gelugor, Sdr Karpal Singh. Sdr Karpal is a 8-term Member of Parliament of Bukit Gelugor and Jelutong, as well as a 3 term state assemblyman in Penang, first elected in 1978.

For 40-years, Sdr Karpal dedicated his life to the legal profession, fighting for justice, upholding our constitutional rights of freedom and human rights. His landmark cases are textbook references for lawyers.

A devoted father and husband to his wife Gurmit, both of them brought up 5 children who are all successful practicing lawyers except for the youngest who is an accountant. The eldest Jagdeep is presently a Penang State EXCO member whilst the second eldest Gobind is a Member of Parliament for Puchong.

With his life suddenly cut short at 74 years following a tragic accident on 17 April 2014, Penang has lost an upstanding and outstanding leader and lawyer. The rakyat lost a fearless "tiger" with an indomitable spirit who stood up for the poor, weak, defenceless and dispossesed.

But it his fighting spirit that stands out. You can detain Karpal physically but you can never detain his spirit. I saw this myself whilst we were both detained without trial under the now repealed Internal Security Act (ISA) in 1988 in Kamunting Detention Camp. He suffered from severe spinal back pains but refused to yield.

This refusal to yield was evident after Karpal suffered an unfortunate accident in 2005 which paralysed him waist-down. Not only did he overcome this paralysis but he continued his brilliant legal and political career. Sdr Karpal became the first disabled person in Malaysia to be elected twice to Parliament, both times with huge majorities.

In seeking both rule of law and a better Malaysia, Sdr Karpal practiced what he preached refusing to charge for cases of gross injustices whether the famous VIPs like Parliamentary Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sdr Lim Kit Siang or the poor Malay, Indian or Chinese.

His departure will leave an immense void not only in his family's lives, but also in those of all Malaysians whose lives have been inspired by his principled cause.

To Sdr Karpals family, we share your grief in this time of bereavement with deepest sympathies and condolences. Thomas Jefferson said that when the government fears the people, there is liberty; when the people fear the government, there is tyranny. Throughout his life, Karpal showed us how not to fear the government.

One of the more frightful social experiments of the last century is almost unknown to the general public. Millions of people worldwide were forcibly sterilized. Sometimes babies judged to be unfit were euthanized or left to die. In some countries, Nazi Germany for example, entire groups of people were targeted for extermination. It was the practice of culling the inferior people from the human gene pool. It was called Eugenics. Even in the U.S., eugenics was sanctioned by law in many states and involved mass sterilization of tens of thousands of people. With women, sterilization involved the surgical removal of ovaries and it is estimated one out of five died because of the operation.

Eugenics followed two approaches. One was to eliminate, or at least prevent from reproducing, those people who were deemed to possess inferior characterizes. These included those with lower intelligence, physical deformities, mental illness, homosexual life styles, low women and prostitutes, inferior races, trouble makers, criminals, and in certain cases even the sick and the weak. Though the eugenics movement mostly died out by the end of WWII, Sweden did not remove eugenics laws from the books until 1975, and it is still practiced by some cultures.

$5,000 bounty put on Ronda Rousey's head

An MMA apparel company says it will give a cash reward to the first fighter to knock out Ronda Rousey.

The Americana MMA Twitter account announced Saturday that $5,000 will go to the woman who KOs the UFC women's champion after Rousey called fellow women's MMA star Cris Cyborg "an it" in an interview with Yahoo! this week.

Americana MMA owner Peter Giannoulis turned down an interview request from FOX Sports on Sunday. Giannoulis believes Rousey should be suspended or fined for her comments about Cyborg the same way, writing as much on both Twitter and Facebook. Giannoulis cited the UFC's handling of situations regarding derogatory remarks from male fighters Matt Mitrione and Matt Brown. Mitrione was fined and suspended and Brown issued an apology.

In the interview with Yahoo, Rousey went off on Cyborg and her past failed drug test. Cyborg currently fights under the Invicta FC banner, but is attempting to make Rousey's 135-pound weight class so she can enter the UFC and challenge her.

"I've said before, I don't care if she's injecting horse semen into her eyeballs, I'll fight her, but that's just my personal decision," Rousey said. "But I can't make a decision for the whole division. I can't say it's the right thing. This girl has been on steroids for so long and [has been] injecting herself for so long that she's not even a woman anymore. She's an 'it.' It's not good for the women's division. It's not good at all."

Rousey's next opponent is Alexis Davis at UFC 175 on July 5 in Las Vegas. Giannoulis tweeted Davis on Saturday, reiterating that Americana would give her $5,000 if she beat Rousey via knockout.

Americana MMA, based out of Toronto, sponsors women's fighters Miriam Nakamoto and Zoila Frausto of Invicta. The company has also produced a shirt for UFC women's strawweight fighter Tecia Torres.

Mitrione called transgender women's fighter Fallon Fox a "sick, sociopathic, disgusting freak" in an interview with MMA Fighting last year. And Brown said on his podcast in January that if two women are fighting on pay-per-view, they should be doing it topless. The UFC did not penalize him, but Brown did issue an apology.
